That said, I have no idea how I would feel about new actors playing Luke, Han, and Leia...

Any other company in the world would have been an improvement over Lucas. I would have taken Enron, but fuck Disney. This had better not be a sequel Trilogy. I don't keep up with the expanded universe (one look at the most insignificant background character from Episode V's wookiepedia page scares me away) but I always thought the ending was fine being the end. I could go for some KotOR era stuff though. And please no Kingdom Hearts, I don't want Goofy shooting first or Han Solo moping about being heartless.

The NEED to let go of the characters we know and make a story about someone else in another part of the galaxy. This new movie can be good but it MUST NOT be episode 7! Not a sequel! Something new! Something different!

I know Lucas isn't in charge anymore but I think they will honor that and completely rewrite cannon, don't expect ANY expanded universe stuff in the films! EDIT: oh and for those of you 'scared', as Disney just picked up Marvel and produced one of the best (probably THE best) marvel movie ever (The Avengers) I wouldn't worry about it.

Between the X-Wing series and the Thrawn Trilogy, there is a LOT of good material out there for a SW movie. I really hope they just ignore the book canon though, and just go for a totally original story. If they wanted to do a one-off though, Starfighters of Adumar is one of the best single Star Wars books set after after Endor.

Everything that's not marketed specifically towards young kids has been very, very good. In addition, most of the bad stuff that happened to give people this crappy view of Disney happened during the eisner era. By all accounts, he was a huge burden on their ability to make good films. Bob Iger seems to at least know what his company doesn't know, and has made a series of very prudent acquisitions that have turned out very well. Marvel and Pixar are the two previous ones I can think of off hand, and marvel and pixar have made some great movies under Disney. Disney didn't get its reputation as a major film studio by being bad at what they do, and companies bought by them tend to do well. They're not stupid, episode VII is not going to be a musical or whatever, they're going to attempt to do something faithful to star wars. Calm down and remember: Nothing could be worse than Jar Jar.

Expect them to churn out a horrible new Star Wars movie ever 2 or 3 years.
