Only thing I'd be worried about is the video games (like someone stated pages before), but then again... Force Unleashed was god awful and reminiscent of a poorly made Disney game anyway... so whatever.
I'm kinda hoping that now a new jedi academy game will be released. Seriously if they could make a new jedi knight jedi academy/outcast game with todays graphics/physics/etc oh man would it be epic ^_^

Another KOTOR game, even one based on an entirely new time period, would SOOOOO be worth this series being run into the ground with another 3 episodes. Just sayin'.

That review by harry p was soooo hilarious to watch lol omg. Does he normally have random pizza roll and kidnapping plots in his review vids? lol

I remember when I was a kid, someone told me there were 9 episodes, and I have been adamant about that, since then without knowing.
Not sure, if I care anymore. I was so amazed when my father came home and told me about episode 4, and it blew my mind, when I was exposed to it. It just seems like a tired and wornout theme now. The only thing that appeals to me is the mediclorians.
If they decide to do this, I hope it will be from the Dark side pov, and with some 3 dimensional characters, and not trying to appeal to a younger audience, like episode 1-3 and 6. With Disney involved I can only be doubtful, that I can be compelled to watch it.
The whole thing could have been so great, with clashes of interests. They have just dropped the ball, imho, and it seems so corny now.
I can hope I live long enough for a remake of all episodes, that appeals to a more grown-up audience.

Hey guys, just realized, we can see Han Solo in the next Kingdom Hearts game now!

Well it can only get better after the 3 last movies. As long as George Locas stays away i'm hopeful.

Tron Legacy had the most generic sci-fi plot imaginable. A bad guy that wants to rid of all imperfection and secretly builds an army to invade the world? Oh come on! It's a shame that they wasted such an interesting setting, outstanding special effects & soundtrack, with such a lame story. It's not going to happen. It's a very important distinction, probably the biggest distinction in the series...you're either good, or you're evil. There is nothing in-between about this. *MAYBE* Han Solo could in-between, but guess what - he helps out the good guys. Lando might be in-between also, but once again - once he was betrayed, he becomes a "good guy". It also happens to be a very crucial thing that makes it easy for a wide audience to understand, and easy for parents to explain to their kids. The good guy...human, good-looking, blue light saber...the bad guy - red light saber, ugly, etc. Star Wars isn't about trying to make sense of right or wrong. It's about making choices which drastically swing you towards one side or the other...but the dark side always beckons.
Really? And what about Luke going over to the Dark Side, only to return to the Light later on. Or darker characters from the SW universe, like Cade Skywalker or my very favorite Quinlan Vos (making a movie about his side of the story, which spanned from before Phantom Menace to after the Revenge of the Sith would be awesome). Not everything in SW universe is completely black or white, there are many shades of grey in there too.

I just don't see how this is gonna be a good movie.

Ugh, please I hope they stay the hell away from Legacy. There are very few things I would take from it. To me though I (agree with Manit0u) the polarization of Star Wars is not a strength. Kreia is one of the most compelling characters of any video game, I can't imagine how amazing she'd be in a movie (not that they'd make a movie with her.) That is to say, complex rather than one-dimensional characters are more interesting. Even Darth Vader wasn't black and white.

The post you quoted had me saying that .
Dunno I am excited at hopefully a battlefront 3 and jedi academy game for PC. I just pray both are on the PC and not just consoles if they are ever made again.

I'm pretty sure there's more money to be made in consoles, unfortunately :/

I'm glad Disney bought up Star Wars. Now I can brag to future generations that I lived in a time where Star Wars was actually good, and not some cash cow franchise owned by Disney.

I'm pretty sure there's more money to be made in consoles, unfortunately :/ Think you have to distinguished between two different topics, and yet, somewhat similar. Don't think the "dumbing" down is about consoles per se, but more that the developers that spend millions upon millions on games, want it to be more accessible to a broader range of gamers, that do not have the time to nerd around with multiple facets. PC games "suffer" in this regard as well. Then there is the other side, where consoles come in, and that is the streamlining of design. Since both appeal to the casual gamers, leads to some mix of saying "dumbing" down, and this has affected game design on PC, since most games today is designed with consoles in mind, and then ported, and often ending with a poor port, that doesn't built on the strengths of the PC.
Some streamlining is good, as there were some tedious things that gets filed away, but most makes it come off as too simplistic, since it has to build on the strengths of the consoles.
Maybe someday, games made for hardcore gamers will be made too, if more gamers become hardcore, and want more meat to dig into.
There is much correlation between the gaming world and movies/filmmaking, just further behind.
We have to be aware though, that we do not become dumbed down, ourselves, while we whine for more complexity, and then when we get it, we realize we do not really want it anymore.

My point is that things get streamlined too much. I like having a challenge and working around frustrating stuff. None of the big titles provide a challenge in me anymore, only a nice walk through the park.

Well, WipeOut series are pretty big. They are streamlined as much as possible and still remain one of the hardest and most competitive games ever. You need to actually practice for hundreds of hours before you'll be able to tackle this game at higher difficulty settings.
Or take a look at Virtua Fighter series. It's a fighting game with the least controls (3 buttons + directions), yet it's one of the most complex and featuring the largest number of possible moves out of any fighting game.
Flawed design will be flawed regardless of the number of features you put in there or how much you dumb it down. Streamlining isn't necessarily bad, it's the implementation of it that matters.

I perfectly understand your point. Bear in mind that I too am a hardcore gamer, and have been for 30 years, and have never owned a console.
Some streamlining is good, too much is not. Just like too much dumbing down, is not, as it makes it like junkfood for the mind, and makes us lazy, and in gaming sense stupid, and simplistic. We can only expect that eventually, even the casual gamers sometimes, wants more on their plate, but I am doubtful that what the both of us love, will come again - even if the target is PC only, or even HC gamers like you and I. Time will tell, just like when it comes to cinema.
|
I understand. But there is a certain magic that flawed design brought to some of the old games that I've been struggling very hard to find in newer titles.

Older games usually suffered from the reverse of what current games have. They had great design but flawed implementation, mostly due to technical restrictions at the time I believe, but still. They offered you a great story, writing, challenges etc. but usually also came with way more features you actually needed and that was necessary. With some streamlining they would be absolutely perfect. Newer games often have some pretty nice and simplistic UI but nothing to back it up really, poor story, dumb characters, 0 challenge or completely counter-intuitive one etc.
