I really hate his style. The Star Trek movie was absolute garbage in terms of characters/character development and plot. Ugh.

But then again the movies have always leaned more on the action side than the tv series (well DS9 was basically all action towards the end as well). The new Star Trek though... looks bad. In the sense that if they called it 'Futuristic Superhero Movie' it would be fine; but calling it Star Trek just isn't right. Of course, I may change my mind when I see it.

I think we agree if you have seen all of the star trek series like I have the new movie doesn't follow suit. The new Abrams star trek universe is different and as I don't like Abrams work in general it turned into an unpleasant experience. If Abrams can't carry the real star trek spirit into his new movies how will he be able to carry the classic star wars experience to a new movie?

The new Star Trek movies were not intended as sequels, but as a reboot. As such there would be no reason to try to carry the classic Star Trek experience, it was supposed to be something new to broaden it's appeal outside of the core fans, rather than to appeal to the core fans themselves. This is a completely different situation when Star Wars is going to be an extension of an existing franchise rather than a reboot.

I'll literally do something fucked up if it is... everything was looking so good. i HOPE this is just a malicious rumor because it would be the absolute worst idea on earth except for Joss Whedon. Only that could be worse. Wow, shots fired, lol. I always thought JJ Abrams was generally regarded as a solid, if overhyped, director. Wasn't expecting to see so much rage. Out of curiosity, who are some directors people were hoping to see? Edit: my vote would be for Kevin Smith

On a serious note, I'm not opposed to a new trilogy. It may or may not be good but you can't let it "ruin" the older films for you. Don't overthink it, and enjoy it as a good flick - you might be pleasantly surprised. Or if it's a Michael Bay massacre, just forget about it and move on with your life. Seriously, I don't really understand all the "outrage."
