Surely the folks who eat junk food all day and get Diabetes II are already deficient in nutrients as it is. You don't have to 'eat junk food all day' to get diabetes. It's just eating a little more regular food than you can afford, given your level of exercise, that can trigger it. As such, they might be getting reasonable amounts of all the positive nutrients, but are also getting too many of the nutrients that ultimately can lead towards type 2 diabetes (carbs, fat, protein, w/e)

Also, i never remember if diabetes 2 was the "nasty" one or if type 1 was that but if type 2 was the "easy" one than it's kind sad if it is the "number one cause of blinding and amputation" since as far as i know one of the types ( again might be confusing 1 with 2 ) is basically risk free if you are not a total jackass and do what your medic tells you.

Does being obese give you higher chances for getting diabetes? is it possible to get diabetes without being obese? does having diabetes make you more prone to get fat? what's the difference between 1 and 2? Thanks Diabetes types 1 and 2 are fundamentally different. In DM type 1 the mechanism involves an autoimmune reaction against the patient's own pancreatic beta cells, which produce insulin, thus causing the body to be unable to correctly utilize glucose, which at high levels becomes toxic. In DM type 2, there is an alteration in metabolism characterized mainly by resistance of the peripheral tissues to insulin, which results in high blood glucose levels and therefore, toxicity. However, obesity by itself is not the cause of type 2 DM but rather one of the many factors which together make a person diabetic. Particularly, genetic factors are extremely important in type 2 DM (most people believe type 1 DM has more genetic influence which is false). Obesity definitely increases chances of becoming diabetic (type 2), because the diet of an obese person normally involves high glucose peaks with subsequent high insulin peaks which in time results in insulin resistance and eventually in diabetes, but as I said before, obesity is not a synonim of diabetes and many obese patients will never become diabetic and many diabetic patients have never been obese or even overweight. Many normal weight people have extremely unhealthy diets which, given a certain context can result in diabetes. Surgery curing diabetes has less to do with weight and is more related to gastrointestinal peptides which are no longer released after a gastrectomy. However, since the pancreatic insulin secretion is permanently altered, they can relapse if they don't follow a strict diet. Also note that patients with uncontrolled diabetes usually lose weight rapidly despite eating a lot. These patients are symptomatic and need to be controlled ASAP as they are in risk of developing life threatening acute complications.

That being said I can see it for cases where due to mobility issues weight loss through diet alone simply isn't an option, but I don't like the idea of this as the cure per the title.
