Was close 2 years ago, closed out the deal this year.
Ever since (and before) he went on that legendary 7-0 start in the 2014 Sinquefield cup, people were dying to see this Car-Car World Championship match.
It took 4 years, but it happens at last.

For all the people who don't usually follow chess but are interested in tuning in to the world championship: There are many places to follow the games. The main site commentary (behind a paywall) will be done by Judit Polgar, who is great, and other popular channels like the chessbrahs will also be doing their thing, but the best commentary lineup for this year can't really be in doubt. Chess24 somehow managed to get Svidler, Giri AND Grischuk. Svidler's been the best chess commentator for many years now and is usually enough to edge out any other broadcast on his own, but together with the other two it's just absurd quality. Numbers 5, 9, and 20 in the world. Giri's very articulate, provocative, and has some mild beef with Carlsen, which should be fun. Grischuk's one of the funniest and most brilliant guys in the scene. He's also one of the best blitz players in the world, and he'll play blitz against premium members after the end of every round (watching is free). The other two will do the same on rest days. It's gonna be awesome. Not really sure who I'm rooting for. I do enjoy my sports hegemonies, but I remember Caruana kibitzing online when he was an up-and-coming teenager. Very nice guy.

Polgar's good at explaining things for a broad audience, the chessbrahs aren't super GMs who go crazy with variations in the first place, and chess24 will have Sopiko (Giri's wife, an IM) to keep the boys in check. Sopiko is pretty good at it. I just remembered one time she was replaced with a GM mid-cast for one match and it did quickly descend into chessbro territory. Was not a fan.

Wondering what are some nice and free resources for kids? Maybe some interactive games and learning software coupled with some nice AI for game simulations? He speaks English and French.

great to hear that new chess players are on the way (don't forget the ever so important starcraft education, though ) chess.com has this kids programme called chess kids. It can be found here: https://www.chesskid.com/ They seem to have put a lot of thought and effort into it, but I have never tried it myself so I cannot comment on how good it is.

also, i started playing again last year and posted here. my daily chess rating climbed to 1600, then dropped to 1500, and after much suffering, slowly climbed it back up to 1640 ish. couldn't break through to 1700 this year, welp theres always next year! meanwhile my rapid rating is 1900, only because ive just played a few games and i haven't lost yet, and they jump my rating too high. i know im not that good, but then when i play opponents they make simple blunders in rapid, like i forked two pieces with a pawn, or i backranked a guy. mind boggling how they fell for that stuff. but now everytime my rating jumps up, i get more and more scared to play and lose it lol

Also, for viewer reasons, most big sport games are on sundays. So would be stupid to try compete against that. Why do you think it is stupid?

I find Danny Rensch hard to handle so I won't be watching them, but their guest list looks pretty nice. Also holy shit is Caruana actually going to get away with a draw here.
