French for Algeria i think.
Damn this is bad, indeed it seems that catching an airplane at the moment is bad. Of course statistically not as their are 10000s of flights a day but still.
Hope it is found quicker and better condition than that of the Malaysian aircraft.

There was a TW flight that crashed on landing as well.... Not a good time for airlines

^ not an appropriate post in a thread where we could have over 110 dead people as the outcome.
Sad story. Between the Malaysian plane, this and the recent Westjet engine problem (landed safely though), feels like the safety of air travel is going downhill. Hope they manage to make contact with the plane soon.

Media reports still differ. Spiegel reports it crashed (confirmed by an unnamed Algerian official... No proof mentioned... lol?) after it was ordered to change its course. They also mentioned bad weather conditions.
I'm quite sure it will be found soon and hope for as many survivors as possible. Not a nice area to land a plane though. Rocky desert or desert mountains i think...

Planes are always crashing right before i'm about to take a trip on one. But this is getting to be a bit too much..

Yea its a bad time to be flying planes. be safe tho.

Ok, I'm generally all for air transport and arguing that it's statistically the safest way to travel huge distances anyway despite the incidents... but it's been getting too much lately.

Is there anything official yet outside of that? Have they recovered a black box or anything like that?

French officials say that the plane "probably crashed". It seems that the crash append in a desertic area, hard to access. French war planes and helicopters will be send to find the supposed crash area.
It seems that the plane had several engine issues, the last one being yesterday. My source is in french but I can link it if you want.

Word is that Fidel Castro's niece, Mariela, was aboard the plane.

This is just all a very tragic coincidence. Planes don't magically become less safe overnight.

It is a really bad year/month/week/day for passanger aircraft...

Unconfirmed sources have said that French Mirages have found the crash site, however nothing official has been released yet. It's just a rumor as of right now.
They're saying sandstorms or storm (wet season in africa atm) may be the cause of the accident, however nothing is confirmed yet.
Just saying what I heard on FR radio.
