Well... given the situation and polls when the election was suddenly called... The CDU was clearly expecting to lead the coalition, no matter who the partner is. While the SPD had to think loudly about RRG as their only power option, but even that was far from a majority. So sure, in an ideal world the SPD wouldn't want it. They may still call it the loss of 5 months RG. But in the end they also know that actually they won 3.5 years Rx.
But hey, the official SPD statements still say that they intend to convince the FPD.
And last, I think the SPD has another advantage. This is their only spotlight action right now. The state party doesn't have to care much about their implications on the federal party. While everyone else has to act carefully, to not damage their federal coalition negotiations.

Merkel is obviously really smart. Putin also. Juncker I have no idea about. Trump is kind of an enigma, he's either an idiot, profoundly ignorant, or both.

And considering how much of a lead the CDU had at one point this is still some kind of win for the SPD. I'm intrigued how this will play out. I don't have the feeling that too many people were angry at the SPD so I hoped for an absolute majority, but sadly this won't happen now. Not sure how they will go about this one now. Personally I would hate to see a GroKo but I also have no clue what the alternative would be. A minority government? I really don't see this one happening.

Well, Reagan was just an actor but he was very nice. Merkel has a PhD but she isn't as great. Either way, I don't think education helps here when you don't understand society well enough. I can guarantee that not all EU countries wanted refugees, yet Merkel forced the whole EU to take refugees. This isn't a matter of PhD. It's about serving the public. There was no fucking referendum about it too.
Her stupid decisions in 2015 are now contributing to rise of far-right parties in France (Le Pen), Austria (think of their recent elections), Germany's AfD, etc.

Oh and... Yes, Germany is doing quite well, especially compared to everyone else around. Merkel just got elected for her 4th time and will become the 2nd longest serving German chancellor. And I would think, most Russians prefer todays Russia over the Russia before Putin too.

Her stupid decisions in 2015 are now contributing to rise of far-right parties in France (Le Pen), Austria (think of their recent elections), Germany's AfD, etc. Being 'smart' is not the same as always doing what other people want you to do lol. In fact I dont see why the two should have any connection whatsoever. It's easy to speculate about Merkel's motives for opening Germany's borders in 2015. The easiest explanation imo is that being raised under a repressive regime instilled in her a strong sense for the importance of individual liberty and freedom, and that given her position of enormous influence she thought she had a moral obligation to help as many people as was reasonable. But whatever her reasons, there is no reason to assume that she thought it would be popular, she simply thought it would be worth it.
It's like saying that Putin isnt smart because people were unhappy when he invaded Ukraine. No shit, I dont think he was surprised by that fact. He just thought it was worth it.

a competent politician has to have a near academic understanding of a multitude of issues to avoid looking stupid when being asked unexpected questions. Most of them have skillsets that would allow them to make significantly more money in the private sector. The problem with politicians is not that the politicians are 'stupid'. If anything, it's more accurate to say that public trust has been eroded because politicians have for too long been too calculating.
It definitely varies from country to country and I am not familiar with bulgarian politicians. In Norway though, virtually all ministers, and certainly all prime ministers, are really, really intelligent people.

I have a perfect clue by being in the west. It's cheap labour to bring non-EU workforce in a lot of the cases. Minimum wage. That's the motto if they can get away with it. I think you need to look outside TL to figure this out.

Later examples - Trump, Putin, Merkel, Juncker(Maybe Trump is the smartest of them all, lol)... I can go on. Trump - rich kid Merkel - PhD in Physics Juncker - law education Putin - law education, KGB officer But by all means go on Trump runs succesful (somewhat) business. Merkel - phd in Physics... and then career politician for the past 30 years. Any significant publications from her ? No ? Juncker - pretty much career politician his whole life. Putin - KGB agent, then policeman, then politician...Always part of the repressive apparatus. Everything he did is thanks to his relations with the communist party. Are you seriously considering these people smart ? How did they contribute to the society ? What is their added value ? Other than their past, which you focus on, look at the way they are running(or should I say ruining) their countries. And you still think that they are smart The sooner we get rid of all these career politicians, the better for everyone. Okay, I looked at how they are running their countries. Came to the conclusion that they are indeed smart, even though I don't agree with their politics. Oh, and what exactly was the alternative to career politicians? Ah, the greatest and most success businessmen, obv. Seen that, had enough Please give me more career politicians please, thanks. The alternative is simple... People that actually know what they are doing, experts in their field and that actually have some work experience. But who am I to tell you this, have your politician that sits behind a desk doing nothing for 30 years. Enjoy it. We are doing great anyways(lol). Apart from showing that you're absurdly wrong, there is no apparent merit in this discussion. Well the guy actually did something in his life... And I said "maybe" so I'm not sure. Sounds like a great argument Pro career politicians. They are experts at politics and have work experience there. :D Oh and... Yes, Germany is doing quite well, especially compared to everyone else around. Merkel just got elected for her 4th time and will become the 2nd longest serving German chancellor. And I would think, most Russians prefer todays Russia over the Russia before Putin too. They have experience in... "politics". Thank God. The most useful discipline of them all. Unless you have to do something else other than picking your nose. Germany is doing great... Tell me your growth(both economic and population) rate and why do you need immigrants to run your economy ? Also I'm sure most russains prefer to be beaten when they say something that they shouldn't... They also love recession. The bar for "Great" is rather low nowdays.
First of, there are two things being conflated here. "Being smart" and "improving your country". Those two are not the same thing. People have different goals. And whatever you think about Putin, he is definitively good at achieving his goals. He took a semi failing semi democratic russia and turned that into an autocracy with himself on the top. That is not something that a stupid person would be able to do. Now, it is also not a very nice thing to do, and especially people in a liberal society don't really think that that is the best way for a country to go.
Putin is a smart and ruthless man. He is not a nice person. Those two are not the same thing.
You can be a very smart person and not benefit society whatsoever, if your goal is instead to make society benefit you personally. You are conflating goals with capabilities.
And it don't even really want to get into your teenager rant about how politicians just do nothing all day, and that real people with real jobs just do so much more. If you want a good look at what politicians do, take a look at the current USA. Because there you see what happens when you remove those useless people.
And Germany is doing good currently. The economic is solid, people are usually fine. Stuff could be better, stuff can always be better. But Germany is definitively not doing bad either.
