no, it doesnt really matter anymore. What bugs me is this cultural superiority that people like to express over other cultures just because they happen to live in another country. If people in another country want reforms and change they will work or fight for it. The french revolution, the US civil war or the Indian Independence movement are good examples.
We like to believe that western culture is "more englightened" then others. But what do arabs see when they think about the west? Sure, a lot will see a more open society and chances for a better life but at the same time others will see us as occupators in Iraq and Afghanistan, heathens who sully muslim holy places in Saudi Arabia by our presence in that country, or just plain murderes of innocents with our drone strikes in Pakistan.
It does not matter that we think that those opinions are stupid what matters is how the affected people in those countries think about us and with each day that we keep on messing around in that region because we think ourselves and our way of life superior it's going to get worse.
we should lead by example and not with our militaries.
