An Airbus A320 airliner has crashed in the French Alps between Barcelonnette and Digne, French aviation officials and police have said.
The jet belongs to the German airline Germanwings, a subsidiary of Lufthansa.
The plane had reportedly been en route from Barcelona to Dusseldorf and was carrying 142 passengers and six crew.
French President Francois Hollande said: "The conditions of the accident, which have not yet been clarified, lead us to think there are no survivors."
Mr Hollande said the crash was a tragedy and called for solidarity with the victims, adding that the area of the crash was very difficult to access.
French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said he had sent Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve to the scene and a ministerial crisis cell to co-ordinate the incident had been set up.
Both Airbus and Germanwings have said they aware of the reports but cannot yet confirm them.

Hey, at least we now have somewhat approximate location of the plane so will be able to find it and figure out the reason, right? RIP everyone on the plane though.

That's the first Lufthansa-related crash in several decades. Shocking ...

What caused it is not as important as being able to blame someone, and then releasing an angry mob onto that person, group or company.
Barely one year after the Malaysian Airlines accident.. Let's hope there are some survivors at least.

Hollande says survivors not expected....

I would not get my hopes up, they found wreckage, and its not very likely they could emergency land it in the mountains.

If it lost 30k feet in 10 minutes, I feel like they should and could have contacted someone that something is wrong? Can't help but feel this might be a terrorist act. However, this is just my feeling considering this is pretty much never happening. I'm sure we know more soon enough.
Rest in Peace to everyone that died.

"The plane issued a distress call at 10:47 (09:47 GMT), according to sources quoted by AFP news agency."

Live feed states the last distress call was received at 9:47. Since the dive had started some 15min earlier, there is probably information that was relayed prior to that. Guess they consider it too early/not analyzed enough to disclose, but probably not one of the "mistery crashes".

According to that graph they were already crashed by 9:47, unless I'm missing something.

Nope, the last call was indeed 5 minutes after the last known point on the graph.
According to the feed, plane went down 30kfeet in 10min, then stabilized around 5k/6k for 5min (time of last contact) ... in a zone where the highest summits are around 8k7.

Alain Vidalies, Secretary of State for the Transports, confirmed that there are no survivors btw. Source being LeMonde.fr
