Games Done Quick is a series of charity video game marathons. These events feature high-level play by speedrunners raising money for charity. Games Done Quick has teamed up with several charities in its five-year history, such as Doctors Without Borders and the Prevent Cancer Foundation. Millions of dollars have been donated to great charities, thanks to the GDQ speedrunning marathons, and many prizes have been awarded to those who donate! Here is the main website of Games Done Quick: https://gamesdonequick.com/
Awesome Games Done Quick is the annual GDQ marathon performed in the winter, while Summer Games Done Quick is the annual GDQ marathon performed in the summer. This year, AGDQ is from Sunday, January 3rd to Sunday, January 10th. Here is the schedule of all the AGDQ'16 games that will have speedruns, along with the names of the runners, expected run times (conservative overestimates), the category/ type of speedrun, and donation incentives (prizes you can win by donating during a specific speedrun, additional caveats you can create for the speedrunners, etc.): https://gamesdonequick.com/schedule Here is the Twitch livestream for the weeklong marathon: http://www.twitch.tv/gamesdonequick It's also located on the TL Live Events sidebar ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> German restream: http://www.twitch.tv/germenchrestream French restream: http://www.twitch.tv/gaminglive_powerplay Spanish restream: http://www.twitch.tv/speedrunsespanol Russian restream: http://www.twitch.tv/goldensplit PM me with any other restreams and I'll post them here!
How to donate/ view prizes/ view list of donors: https://gamesdonequick.com/tracker/index/agdq2016 Both the AGDQ and SGDQ marathons have been increasing in popularity and charity since their inception, with AGDQs generally having greater results. AGDQ'15 reached nearly $1.6M in donations, while SGDQ'15 reached $1.2M in donations. Hopefully, we can reach $2M for AGDQ'16!
I thought nobody would start this thread! I have work tommorow T-T, but when I come home, first thing is stream coming on XD. 3rd or 4th time watching this, time to donate

Yeah it's my 4th year watching these marathons, and I've tried my best to donate a little every year Always such a great cause with great commentary on great video games!
These are the games I'm looking forward to the most:
Sunday 1/3 Super Monkey Ball- These runs are always insane! Generally a must-watch every year! Kirby 64- Obligatory N64 nostalgia Diddy Kong Racing- Obligatory N64 nostalgia Super Mario 64- Always a classic run, and it's a 3-way race!
Thursday 1/7 Super Punch Out/ Original Punch Out- Absolutely a must-watch, especially because of the blindfolded runs! Saw it last year and it was the most amazing thing ever.
Friday 1/8 Star Fox 64- Classic N64 Banjo-Kazooie- Love this game and love Stiv Diablo and Diablo II- Duh. LoZ: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask- Double Duh.
looking forward for or would try to watch: Left 4 Dead 2 Transformers: Devastation(i'm curious) Resident Evil HD Remaster hl2 portal 2(wooo) Outlast (should be fun) Battletoads Age of Empires(preferred empire earth but i guess aoe is more popular) Halo 4 Diablo II: Lord of Destruction Final Fantasy IV
I'm sooooo hyped. And I have the week off. GG. Really looking forward to MM relay, Mario Kart, Super Mario 64, Star Fox, OoT and Banjo Kazooie. Basically the good old Nintendo stuff. Does anyone know if the Super Mario 64 run is a race again? Or is it relay?
I usually look forward to these runs, but a lot of the runners/games I like won't be there (for various reasons). Probably won't watch it as much this year.
Too many exciting runs to list here, but man those NES blocks on wednesday, thursday and saturday are suh-weeeeet!
Sour about no Wind Waker though, either version would've been excellent. Both were <4'd rather recently, and I haven't seen other super long runs that are as entertaining!
I'm not sure what will be great... most of the times it were the surprises that left me speechless! So, lets go with: "TASBot vs Humans -- Mystery Game" ... what the hell??? Will be great! But with my luck I will not be able to see it live, because I'm at training
Few hours left now!
@Admins: Do we get this stream in the timeline on the side?

Splatoon and squeak squad should be fun. Too bad halo 4 is the only halo but PAJ is pretty awesome. I wonder whay new stuff he figured out in the past year.

Yeah I was a little surprised at that too. Usually it's on the last day with Ocarina of Time... I wonder if this schedule change will hurt donations, since the hype won't have a chance to be built up as much.
I'm a little sad about the fact that both the indie and the shooter blocks start around midnight CET, probably the two blocks I'm the most interested in.

Yeah for a few of these, I'm gonna have to watch the VODs.
Over 100K viewers seem to agree with that And then DKR, Mario Kart, and a three-way Super Mario 64 race! *-* I'll be out tonight, but I'll be watching those VODs asap.

Yeah, I don't know the game but it looks tough. I'm looking forward for Rayman Legends which I've played a little. It's not that fast but for me it's really tough. From the link last page I read the WR has only 3 deaths...

Just make it 'runner name' vs 'game name'. That works well when seeing how these runners destroy their games. And sometimes the games beat back through rng :D
Damn sleeping, now i missed Zelda T_T. Rayman was pretty cool though, really looking Forward to Hotline Miami, Resident Evil & FF4 (even though FF4 is on the last day i believe)

I really didn't enjoy L4D2, idk. It's like if I just played 3 times to get used to the maps again I would probably my run wouldn't be too far off their time. Just think the game isn't really good for speedrunning because there are barely any tricks and you just run on easy..
hm I really wanna watch battleblock theatre. But if I stay up that late I won't be able to watch super time force ultra and Fez in the morning. Damn, why do I have to make such a difficult choice?
And the streamer guy was fun too, some nice humor. He had to sing because of the donation incentative thing but he made it the least cringy it could have been too, props to him.
So annoying, the guy sitting in the back with the shirt is so much louder than the others, and he also blows into the mic everytime he says something. Wish they would fix this.

Just started the stream so I don't know who currently is speaking there. But the last GDQ where Mecharichter and PJ ran Battleblock Theater I believe they had two of the devs on call, too.

You're underestimating performing under pressure at a marathon. While he is the only runner it's still an achievement.

I wouldnt go so far, but yeah, I have these "oh my eyes" moments far too often when watching agdq. Applies to almost any "action-adventure" (wikipedia tells me this is the correct term) they are playing that doesnt have the name zelda in it.
I think I enjoyed the Aladdin, Goof troop and Hotline Miami the most so far. Each of those runs had great couch commentary. Sad that pcull4444 is not doing a run himself this marathon, hope he shows up for some more commentary though. Also more Blechy on the couch please.
Yeah agree, what makes Undertale is the dialogue/story and the music. Watching ppl speedrun through the game skipping everything is meh. But it probably will be in future agdqs.
There are a lot of very bad games in agdq because they have to fill up the time, might as well replace one of them for Undertale that is popular instead of X game, which no one has heard of, yet alone played. (there are some of those games in this agdq)

Individual level I would assume they will show something pretty impressive on a specific level or just ask the audience and speedrun the picked level.
Yeah if I recall correctly from Mhmd's pre-AGDQ stream, he picked a number of levels that he practiced and grinded specifically for the marathon and he's going to do some of them. (not sure who gets to choose etc)
Otherwise a full run of AoE would end up being by farthe single longest speedrun of any GDQ event to date.

The OP has the Reddit thread for each individual speedrun, but not more specific components of the speed run (so you'd have to skip to the middle or end of the run, etc.).
Whenever i see Metroid Prime like this im thinking "that is a really nice and fun game and you should play it once more".
...and then im rembering "you still have to beat that last boss....", i really have to look up how speedrunner beat him to have perfect strats for this creature. >.>
Kinda wish they reused the good games. Wouldn't mind seeing a Mario 64 race, a 70 star run and a 120 star run. Split them onto different days and we're set.
There are quite a lot uninteresting games for speedrunning in this event. Super Mario 64 is one of those games where speedrunning really shines so would prefer more than just 1 run of it. Also more people have played Mario 64 so if I were to show this event to friends it's better when they know the game and can appreciate the skill the players have.
Eh I don't know if I agree. SM64/Zelda gets representation of every GDQ. If you ran multiple categories within a single GDQ then it would quickly stale. The game selection thus far hasn't been great, I'll give you that, but it's not a reason to put in different categories of popular speedgames.

They've actually done things like that for SM64 before
For example, I think it was last year or the year before that had 120 stars as one run (Siglemic?) and then Peaches did a one-handed fast glitched run. And this year after the 120 race, they showed off modded multiplayer. So sometimes they show more of a game than just 1 speed run, even though it's not necessarily everything the game can offer.
Idk, 3 runs in one week is not that much. And people don't watch 24/7 so don't think they would end up watching all 3 runs.
Plus as we are people from all over the world watching this, you could also have them at different timezones too, which would also decrease the chance of people seeing the same game twice. But rather another Mario 64 run than 90% of the games this event.

You also have to keep in mind that almost everyone in speedrunning wants to get to a GDQ to showcase their game. When you give extra timeslots to popular games then it's at the expense of fringe games. Some of those fringe games have been amazing like Metal Wolf Chaos at SGDQ last year and Transformers this year (and others haven't). It's part of the charm of the GDQs.

A Necrodancer Coda run by itself is already insane. To be done unseeded during a marathon? Unbelievable. I think there's only ~10 people who have beaten the game with Coda unseeded. Spooty is a god. Just check it out. Keep in mind that playing Coda means that: it's 2x speed; can only use the basic dagger; dies if he misses a beat, picks up gold, or even drops his multiplier (such as digging a stone wall without the appropriate shovel).

I say this as someone who has fiddled with this game a lot and followed its speedrun scene for 2-3 years. I don't dispute that maybe this new save delete strat helps at some points throughout the run.

depends on the checkpoint system of the game and the amount of time it takes to save/load. if it takes a lengthy time to save the game i think it is fine because doing everything in one rush is still better. but yeah if it is only a couple of seconds its not very interesting to watch.

Same :D i have never beaten it 100%. At some point my friends and i just gave up and tried to see who could get the higher combo score
Yeah reviews are bad though but still i will probably get it when its a bit cheaper.
Pretty sure THPS5 is one of the worst games of 2015, a buggy broken piece of shit that made a lot of people swear off the franchise.
It was rushed out even for rushed out game standards. Just because the license for Tony Hawk games was running out and they wanted to squeeze money out of it.

There has been a large amount of drama surrounding this year's AGDQ. Most of it seems justified too. The most recent one: a person got denied entry when he showed up after a $600 flight because his registration payment got rejected without any notification. The staff has been extremely lackluster in this area. This is not the only story of this sort I've heard this year, among other things.
Because of how the GDQs are managed and the direction the organisation has been taking, an increasing number of speedrunners have decided to stop supporting it. I've barely been watching anything this year, only runs done by friends basically. I'm gonna shut up about it now and let everyone enjoy the speedruns. If you want to know more, there is more than enough info scattered over twitter.
Yeah it happens with everything when it gets "so big". Someone tries to take control and someone becomes too big for there boots and the cause is lost. To deny entry to someone who flew there and had bought a ticket seems silly.
And without the engine, on a nes, with all the metroidvania and megaman stuff. It takes some stuff from iwbtg clones but its really far part from them. It plays closer to those "kaizo" megaman homebrews

Huh i feel the opposite tbh. The glitchier it is the less i can identifiy with the run and thus it becomes boring. Even though i think it is interesting why the glitches work and how people find them.

Its only a few years old, its a very recent game. And yes, they mentioned iwbtg, just like they mentioned megaman and metroidvania. The game has a lot of influences but just the fact its on a nes already makes it play a lot closer to nes games than iwbtg clones.

Yes, No, and just donating during the games. There are "grand prices" where you can donate the whole marathon. 20 get you a raffle for the AGDQ2016 banners, 50 for a Nintendo 3DS with Majora's Mask or an Streetfighter Arcade stick, and 75 for a real pinball machine! https://gamesdonequick.com/tracker/prizes/agdq2016

Yeah but he seems to be not allowed to run anything this year because he showed the Mario Golf Cartridge or something at his last run.

The turbo tunnel section was the end of the game for most of the players back in the days. You played a bit, raged until continues run out and started the game again for around 15 minutes, until you reached the tunnels again.
If anything is made for the gandalf "you shall not pass" meme, its this part.
And when you watch the run, its not even the hardest spot in the game. :/

It wasnt mario golf, it was a nes golf game. But the "logic" behind it was that they felt he was pushing for his other games to be on the next GDQs and that was unfair advertising or some other bs.

Right now it's about $100K-$130K/day.It's considerably slower than last AGDQ, and I think a little bit slower than last SGDQ. Usually there's some decent rallying towards the end though. I don't think there's any chance that we'll match last AGDQ, but we might get a million dollars, which is almost around last SGDQ.

It's a donation incentive for Super Metroid, and has become the staple main donation incentive of these marathons. Last SGDQ I think it pulled in over 250k alone.
In super metroid at the end you can choose to save some animals from an exploding space station or not. It has become an AGDQ thing to have a donation war for whether to save frames or the animals.

Haha guy on the couch is wearing a Path of Exile shirt! Also, the runner named the character Chris Wilson, which i assume is a reference to the creator of Path of Exile, neat!
At least these D1 and D2 runs are showing the difference between bugged/duped runs and 'normal' speedruns of games that are otherwise reasonably similar.

I think 2 AGDQs ago... he actually would have hit a WR too if he hadn't slowed down to honor donations naming his Pokemon for him. It was epic, and I've never seen a speedrunner able to throw out as many statistics and probabilities and numbers as he did... it was really impressive. He was like the M2K of Pokemon. Considering how flawless stiv usually is, I was a little surprised about a few silly mistakes he made during the run, especially since he's been practicing. (I'm not particularly surprised at him messing up that Freezeezy glitch though, considering how difficult it really is.) He was getting upset with himself too.

For Super Metroid runs there is an option to spend more time but save the animals on a soon to explode planet, or evacuate without sparing them. GDQ now have it as a donation incentive to either force the runner into putting more time into the run, or going as fast as possible without the impediment.

In Super Metroid at the end you have the choice to save some animals which is the canon wayof doing it or you can ignore them which kills them. It saves roughly 20 seconds and is basically the "speedrun" way of completing it.

It's actually pretty simple. Someone notices something odd, people try to do odd thing, once people can do odd thing they try doing odd thing in more places, occasionally clever people will analyse the odd thing in the memory to completely understand it.

There's no way that's pretty simple in practice, though!

Yeah seriously x.x
The postman counts to ten in his mind. You have to give an input after exactly 10 secs ( which you do not see on display so you have to guess when the 10 secs are reached) to get his heartpiece which you have to collect in 100%. I've seen runs die to this because the runner needed 15 tries or more

Yeah I know, but with the bunny hood the timer doesn't disappear... also, even with the timer gone, it's not that hard. It's never taken me more than 5 tries, and each try takes like 15 seconds. I guess that extra missed minute is a big deal in a speed run, but they could always just do it with the bunny hood and it's an easy first try?

In 100% you do the postman before you did the chicken minigame where you get the bunny hood. So they have to do postman blind

On January 09 2016 17:47 Tictock wrote: Majora's Mask is probably one of the odder games in the zelda series.
Well at least till Spirit Tracks was a thing.
Majoras mask is actually such a great game. If you haven't played it when you're older then I recommend it.
That game is so dark, as a kid I never realized it. But people commited suicide and a mother got her children stolen.
And then there are the sisters at Lon Lon Ranch. The older sister understands what's going on and what's about to happen with the moon crashing. But the younger sister doesn't. And she gives her sister "special milk" the day before the crash, and that special milk can be bought at the bar. So it's alcohol. Gets her younger sister drunk the same night the moon is gonna crash because she understand that they are going to die.
Just some examples but damn it's my favourite Zelda game for sure.
Lastly here's a really good game theory on Majoras mask if you haven't seen. If Link is actually dead in majoras mask

Yeah but this will be the first recent AGDQ or SGDQ that hasn't raised more money than the previous year's, which is a bit sad. And it's not even close, really.
In the past there has been a massive upswing on the last day because the last few games have been crowd favorites like Super Mario 64, Zelda OoT, and Majora's Mask. Unfortunately, those are all over now, so it's up to TAS runs, killing/ saving the animals in Super Metroid (always good for donations), and FFIV. The viewership peaked at 200K several days ago, but it's only been at around 100-150K recently.
Its been a weird GDQ, its felt slightly off this year. I can't really place a finger on it. Maybe its the fact that they ran out of donations to read at one point and that a lot of the donations were $100+ instead of the usual constant torrent of $5-20.
I dunno, maybe the speedrunning hype is over, I dunno. Perhaps it is because PFC is US only and its being more publicized this year. Maybe the big donations are being held off for the last couple games?
I'm pretty sure they'll pull in at least 1 million this year. Actually, this year feels a little more sellout as well. Maybe that's what's turning people off? It seems to be at the levels that irked me personally form last year. I mean, this is a charity marathon, I don't really care about the the sponsors shoved in my face every 15 minutes.
for me agdq has lost their unique appeal. the firste two or three years where i followed it it has this touch of a nice community that loves what they are doing and celebrating themselves. since then they lost that appeal because they got bigger (less of a problem) and are less themselves. it doesnt help that there is a shit ton of drama involved everywhere and nothing of it is real drama and just a bunch of idiots being overly sensitive to everything.
Well there was the drama with SVG and Stiv. That seemed pretty real drama and I don't know how that guy isn't banned. Also, the number of donations read this year seems to be really down.

I think it's a mix between the games chosen and the lack of a Humble Bundle/ other big incentives to rally the opposing sides (like save vs. kill the animals).
I don't think the hype is over, and I don't think it's because of a little bickering.

Yeah the hype certainly isn't over. Breaking 200k viewers for the first time this marathon is indicative of that. Something else is off. It's a combination of factors really. I'm most interested in seeing how the org com react to getting less than last year and whether they start making poor decisions or keep their cool.
Also think because the most popular speedrun streamers aka Siglemic and Cosmo aren't active anymore. Then a lot of other popular like AdamAK and Ennopp wasn't there.
But mainly because of Siglemic and Cosmo, they were really the face of speedrunning. ZFG is the closest to them. Trihex is cool too but didn't attract the same amount of viewers.
It probably didn't help that the really popular games like Mario64 and OoT / MM was in the graveyard shift for Europeans. More tend to donate during the runs they love.

Yeah I think they should just look at which incentives, sections of the marathons, and big donors contributed more vs. less money between these two years.
Also, I feel that certain speedrunners add incredible amounts of hype, and two of the biggest names were there last year iirc and not this year... Siglemic and Cosmo.
Firstly, Siglemic and Narcissa secondly shit like denying CalebHart a run because of admin crap, banning Werster from GDQs, making poor run choices etc all contribute a lot.

This has pretty much all the current IL times and Single segment runs.
I ended up stopping Wings of liberty brutal at 2:30:00 years back, that could be brought down to approx 2:25:xx with the same strats in my eyes and the biggest potential time saver would be strats on the dig to destroy the entire protoss base. That is the dream strat to knock down the time by minutes.
I could submit WoL, but im 99% certain it'll be denied if it's not LotV.

It's getting a same date release on PC along with consoles.
50 minutes would have been a better estimate for the runner. Besides, most speed runs usually end around 5 minutes earlier than the expected time, which is where he's around now at the game's end.
Kind of wish they had a good any% run on the newest patch (way better load screens). I'd like to see a 100% run as well although that would be too long for a GDQ.

This 1 is turning out to be more technical / competitive than I expected, usually it turns out into a goofy fest, which is pretty good as well for end of event relaxation.

Think it was 4 bosses unless you aren't counting the shadows as a boss since they weren't triggered to actually do anything, lol.
As an (early) conclusion to this event I have to admit I feel like we have had more 'great' runs than at some of the previous GDQ's. After seeing the games list for this AGDQ for the first time I was a bit disappointed. Somehow the list felt subpar. But after watching the whole week I somehow have the impression that this GDQ, atleast the runs and the commentary, was top-notch and way better than expected at first.
Ok, let's check what I liked... I missed a few that I will rewatch, but those I already saw.
Splatoon (was surprised, but was really entertaining!) Transformers (those puns... omg! ) Lion King (MexicanRunner, nuff said... and his singing! ) Hotline Miami (really fast and great commentary) Crypt of the Necrodancer (incredible thing...) Super Metroid (Any% 2p1c) (I can't do that with two hands...) Ink (entertaining and I'm an old SuperMeatBoy fan...) Gimmick (always incredible!) Battletoads (especially the blind folded part ... even if he didn't make it) Castlevania (Whip Only) (I hated the game already WITH items...) Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! (Blindfolded) (SO INTENSE!!!) Pokemon Blue (Glitch Showcase) (where is the game??? oh, behind those fractures...) Shovel Knight (great race!) Final Fantasy IV (ah, the memories...)
There is quite a few I have to VOD. The Super Mario part, the TAS, ... damn, I have no time for all that
A shame it's over again, i have a ton of vods to watch due to me missing a lot of time because of time difference though. My favourites were Tony Hawk, Kingdom Hearts (because of Disney songs singing), Hotline, Lion King, Resident Evil and Goof Trap

Battle kid 2 / super mario maker was great as well and would recommend it to anyone who missed it
The race in super mario maker wasn't very intense but was interesting to see the some of the best mario players play new maps for them and see their reactions to stuff and their puzzle solving
I missed far more than I wanted to, but I got to watch most of the Mario games, mk8, and some great races. I have a lot of vod watching to do. And it saddens me that ff tactics was not voted best ff game. 2/4 and 3/6 are close, but man that game..... So much fun. I wonder if I can buy it on ps4 virtual console. I mean they must have old games for sale on their right? I've never looked.... Brb checking lol
Some people recommend the blind-folded punch-out race. While it is obviously super impressive, the fact that you need sound cues made it a horrible game to race in my opinion. The audience forced to be silent the for entire game (and couldn't cheer after a TKO (or even worse, after the first Tyson), kinda killed the hype. When I compare it to the blind-folded races of previous AGDQs it just felt dull. (Another reason might be that in previous AGDQs every round was more than what you expected (at least the later rounds), this year Tyson going down was kinda expected I think?)
They had to do something to spice it up. the blindfold punch out is a popular run but after improving it over several events it can now just be done. Making it a race was the logical next step imo, there isn't a lot you can go from here tho.

I think last year's SPO blindfolded run by Zallard was even better than this year's PO race, but I liked this year's too.
During a blindfolded race, the runners can't even speak between rounds because they don't want to interrupt their opponents. At least last year, Zallard could talk in between fights.

They said that there will be one. Check it in the evening or so. There was something about "Arby's" is the key that the bonus stream is going online...

I wonder what the next great blindfolded run will be... I think Ocarina of Time is #1 by a significant amount, and I can't even imagine what other game could realistically be run blindfolded that could top that.

well RG was working hard on doing it blindfolded... not sure about how long that would take though

You mean twitch plays super mario maker right?
Battle kid 2 was awesome.
I liked the Super Mario Maker races in particular... both the blind (non-practiced, not blindfolded) and practiced ones.

Mario maker was great. Kaizo Mario Bros 3 was also amazing.
I remember paying him $10 to do a full 120 star run when he had ~30 viewers in like 2010 lol. I'd just found out about speedrunning and had found him..resetting for like 3 hours straight.
Reddit got really mad about that but it's not at all a huge deal. a) Races aren't really that competitive, sure you want to win but they're mostly for fun b) The runners are friends and they know there's no ill will between them c) skudj was never in that race to win it, it was always Andy's to lose (you can see that by their selection of strategies and their respective best times in the category) merely wanted to do it for a good run and the fact that he was the guy who worked out how to make that route possible
now watching the Ori and the blind forest race cause I couldn't watch it live. Just gotta say, the game soundtrack is amazing. Especially the soundtrack of the ruins escape. I think I'll just buy the whole soundtrack to listen to it while laddering, so relaxing. Also really cool race with good explanatory commentary.
1. Unpatched game 2. Exploits over exploits 3. Fighting defenseless bosses 4. dupe-glitching 5. switching characters mid-run
I'm sure the all bosses category will be more of a show, has anyone seen those runs? All bosses including DLC should be an absolute treat, like the Dark Souls pyromancy run or the DS2 all bosses run.
I haven't seen many Bloodborne runners, but for what it's worth Elajjaz is an all bosses runner and that's very entertaining. He does Dark Souls as well from what I've seen.
Twitch.tv/Elajjaz (he's on right now at time of posting)

Bloodborne was one of the runs I was most hyped for, but any% on the unpatched game was boring and the cannon incentive was a joke.
Hopefully there'll be a good All Bosses run at the next event, I'm sure bloodborne has been one of the most viewed games on SRL pretty consistently.

I was pretty hyped for this run too, like Dark Souls 1 and 2, but it turned out pretty anti climatic. For different reasons. But exploits and glitches in all colors and tastes are what any% is in any game. So atleast this part had to be expected.
Lester the Unlikely is an aweful game, but the idea of a regular guy with regular fears and then get kissed by a girl for boosting his confindence and testeron is so over the top, the idea itself isnt that bad at all in my eyes.
AGDQ 2016 speedrunning marathon earns over $1.2 million for charity.
Annual gaming-themed speedrunning marathon Awesome Games Done Quick has wrapped up its 2016 event with over $1.2 million in viewer donations, marking the third year in a row that the event has earned over $1 million for charity.
Proceeds earned during the livestreamed marathon benefit the Prevent Cancer Foundation, an organization promoting cancer awareness, early detection, and prevention.
The Awesome Games Done Quick marathon, jointly produced in a collaboration between the Speed Demos Archive and Speed Runs Live online communities, gathers many of the world’s top speedrunners for a week-long exhibition of superior gaming skill. Participants are unpaid volunteers, and many travel to Games Done Quick events at their own expense.
During the course of the event, featured speedrunners attempt record-breaking gaming feats while employing little-known glitches in order to achieve faster completion times. In addition to showcasing speedruns of classic games, the event also features multiplayer races between notable speedrunners as well as a variety of unconventional gameplay challenges promoted as donation incentives.
Throughout Awesome Games Done Quick, viewers may donate to the Prevent Cancer Foundation for a chance to win dozens of unique and one-of-a-kind prizes donated by fans, artists, and gaming publishers. Awesome Games Done Quick 2016 earned a total of $1,208,022 in donations between January 3rd and January 10th.
Games featured at Awesome Games Done Quick 2016 include classics like Metroid Prime, Mega Man X, and Super Mario World, along with newer fare like Splatoon, The Talos Principle, and Rayman Legends. This year’s event also hosted a new world record speedrun for the indie PC game Velocity 2X.
Other notable feats seen at AGDQ 2016 include a Super Metroid speedrun conducted by two players using one controller and a Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out race in which both players successfully completed the game while blindfolded, using only audio cues to defeat a notoriously difficult series of opponents.
The next Games Done Quick event, Summer Games Done Quick 2016, will be held between July 3rd and July 9th in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
