I was amazed at how many people went out. Every local radio station has been playing nothing but Prince and Prince related artists. The one I linked up top did he first six albums straight through with minimal interruptions yesterday afternoon. They are still playing him now.

In the big reddit thread from the other day, someone linked to /r/guitars' discussion on that point. The general consensus was that he was not technically the most accomplished player but he would kick your ass in most if not all other ways. I remember having a pack of metal head friends though, years ago. It was hard to get them to admit to much outside of metal. Now I just need Amon Amarth to cover purple rain.

I'd been thinking about them and how crazy their careers and personalities were. How many barriers they really smashed while seemingly not smashing anything, almost kindred spirits in a way. How unique and rare they were, Mercury would probably fall into the camp as well. They were going to do what they were going to do and they didn't give a fuck. Lightyears before their time, in an era where being anything but a man's man was taboo you had no idea what they really were. Were they gay, were they straight, were they cross dressers, what the hell were they?! No one knew, but the one thing you did know is they were doing a TON of fucking, they were walking living breathing sex, more than any "standard" rockstars. You couldn't ever slap a label on them, they were so far out there, changed rules, and blazed trails but they were always the coolest guys in any room they were in till the day they died. When you think about it its really incredible what they did and who they were in an era where you couldn't do that or be that, but they did, and they were monsters in an era where it would seem impossible to be a monster doing and being who they were. Absolutely incredible.

Rolling Stone had removed him from the 100 greatest artists/guitarists believing it was hype or what have you. So he agrees to do this bit with other musicians but in rehearsal he did nothing like that. Just played it safe and almost bland like. Then he proceeded to melt everyone's face off with that solo. It was a fuck you to Rolling Stone and an epic one at that.

It was a fuck you to Rolling Stone and an epic one at that. Its total fucking destruction and its so completely effortless. He's playing that solo like a madman and it feels like he could kick it up another 50 notches if he wanted to. It seriously looks like he's not even trying, every note is perfect, he's the coolest mother fucker in the room. Then after he blows everyone face off he swaggers his little ass off the stage like a savage. It's like he's from the fucking future or some shit lol. God that clip never gets old.
