ever since I started learning English, I have listened to Ira Glass once a week and I've come to really appreciate the storytelling of 'This American Life'.
Twice, they pointed me at another podcast. The first one was Serial, the first season of which was about Bowe Bergdahl, soldier in the US army who deserted in Afghanistan, was captured by the Taliban, which led to a months long manhunt in the wrong country.
The second time: S Town.
From their website:
JOHN DESPISES HIS ALABAMA TOWN AND DECIDES TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. HE ASKS a reporter to investigate the son of a wealthy family who's allegedly been bragging that he got away with murder. But then someone else ends up dead, sparking a nasty feud, a hunt for hidden treasure, and an unearthing of the mysteries of one man's life.
I can't say much about story without spoiling it, and I'm only 3 episodes in, but I can thoroughly recommend this podcast.
The production value is great, the story is... unbelievable...
If you have a couple of minutes, listen to the preview, I swear it's worth your while:
