Well, Tyrande is pretty good. Hunter's Mark's 25% vulnerability debuff plus team coordination is of course insane for bursting enemies down. I like to pick on the healer with this skill -- or I'd like to -- the only drawback of HM is the short cast range. What are some good ways to get in range with Hunter's Mark -- and good teamates? Seems good with Stitches, since you could literally bring the opponent to YOU for the Hunter's Mark.
I appreciate her stun as well. I'm sure ya'll also saw the potential of her Owl in Khaldor's recent post. That was insane!
What do you reckon? Do you play Tyrande at high ranks in SoloQ?
|
Well she is over 10000 years old but yeah, still very sexy.
The Owl build is quite fun(not really for competitive matches though).
I also like the Tyrande - Muradin gank squad in some maps like Tomb of the Spider Queen.

10,000 years!? Kind of intimidating

She has all sorts of freaky night elf wisdom.

Its like, how does she slap?

At first I didn't like her at all. Compared with her husband Malf, her healings were worse, the stun is more of a hit and miss, and the owl while could be useful, I could't hit even a barn side with it, or had any useful information for my team.
But...
Suddenly I learnt how to hit with the how and the stun. I discovered that healing allies also grants you healing, thus making it a 2x1 deal, and the star fall is a great CC in team fights. And the Huntress mark... oh god, my team mates love me when I use that on the diving Illidan + stun.
Now I just want to buy her. It is a pity I just wanted Zagara so much... but I think it will be my next purchase.
Also, her master skin is badass.

Tyrande is a lot like Tassadar; not a solo support, but can pump out a lot of utility and/or damage alongside some healing/mitigation.
I usually go two routes with her; either reduce the cooldown on Hunter's Mark/talent up Battle Momentum and Lunar Fire, and use her as a vulnerability/stun/heal bot, or go an auto-attack build that can dish out a lot of damage. If you know how to use your Owl well and can land your stuns, she can offer a lot of utility (and she can out-damage most non-assassins with an AA build), especially if you pair with another hero that has a stun. Tyrande+Butcher combos are sick for all the lockdown you can bring. Butcher stun -> Hunter's Mark + Lunar Fire = near-instagibbed hero. Obviously something like Tyrande+Uther works well for stunlock, you'll just need another assassin nearby.

Tyrande works quite well in Teams that complement her. To use her efficiently you need one hero to do the prestun to allow you to jump on somebody and provide some cover, which is fairly obvious. However Tyrande has the second worst lane clear in the game. Someone is needed to compensate for that. Unless your team has reliable laning capability for at least 2 lanes (or a workaround for this specific matter), a second support hero and a prestunner, do not pick tyrande. She is not gonna replace a Sylvanas or a valla. Its just not her role in the game.
On your auto attack build; i tried working with Marksman, Searing arrows, Battle momentum, SF, Attackspeed on huntersmark, Trueshot aura and nexus frenzy. The results were unsatisfying. The build is cool in theory. And sometimes, on a glory day, I manage to solo instagib someone with it (jump in on someone then mark stun searing attacks and owl, use reduced CD from BM to finish with another stun), but it is in no way a reliable combo to pull off. In order to kill someone on your own you need to hit 2 perfectly timed stuns while getting close enough to hit 8! autoattacks and get the finish with the owl. while it does work sometimes, more often then not your combo just gets interrupted and you die in the process. Mostly because you are sacrificing Range (range talent on 7 ALWAYS!) and safety on 13 for pure dmg. The build is plain weak and unflexible. So rather then going for Dps you should skill her for utility. Take that range on the stun, your team will love you for it. Take the reduced mana cost for the heals ( tyrande Q heals 120 +60 on self for 30 mana. Uther Q heals 140 for 90 mana and has a bigger CD) to keep that melee you are following around alive. The reason here being that you don't know if you will get a good target for HM every 12 seconds compared to having the guarranteed benefit of increasing your overall healing output. Your lategame will be safer (more range +Escape with sprint) and offer similar burst dmg in the form of Rewind.
the real problem with tyrande is that she needs to be enabled by both team comp and team play. It won't matter if you go around with that sick Kerrigan and Jaina combo killing people left and right, if their specialist is having a happy field day in a lane with your support/tank, Personally i only pick her when i am comfortable leaving the lane work entirely to my allies and have a prestunner that doesn't pussyfoot around all day. I think about it like this: I am spending time away from pushing a lane/tower or doing objectives (underrated in the current meta ), so i need a return that justifies my investment of time. If my front man doesn't provide that, or i am unable to hit my followups, i cease picking Tyrande on that particular session immediately.
I hope that helps.
edit: if you find someone who is brave enough to play stitches at Rank 1 and hits his hooks, i d love to see some footage of that :D

Her auto-attack build doesn't require two stuns; if you do everything correctly, one round of a stun should be enough to take down a squishy hero. Also, her laning definitely is not that bad. She does enough AA damage and has a fast enough attack speed that, combined with her Lunar Fire, she can wave clear. Yes, it's bad, but not second-worst-in-the-game bad.
That said, you shouldn't ever be 1v1 against another hero or solo a lane anyway; that was just to demonstrate the point that Tyrande can build for some significant damage if you want to go all-out. I do agree that healing/utility is generally the best way to go with her; however, you don't want to throw all of your eggs into that basket, since she's a pretty poor healer to begin with (she can't primary heal), and if your team is a little light on damage, she absolutely has the capability to supplement that damage. You can also go a 3rd route and talent Lunar Fire to do more damage/increase range, so that you can just chunk out a good amount of damage and then use the rest of your time for utility.
I think Tyrande has a lot of utility and is a pretty flexible hero, but I think her survivability and healing capabilities just aren't quite good enough for high-end play. Tassadar brings such incredible utility and survivability that he outshines her in every way, especially since his damage build still does more damage than Tyrande's and makes him much tougher to kill than Tyrande ever is. He's a great secondary support, whereas Tyrande falls just short in pretty much every category to be worth the pick. If her healing ability got buffed a bit, and maybe she was given some health (or some way of escaping reliably), then she would be strong enough for competitive play.

her healing is already quite good (the 50% self heal don't get picked by the healing statistic!), about half of that of a dedicated heal support, but the real trouble is that her Q talent overlaps with sprint. And i tend to disagree with your Tassadar argument; their roles are just too different. Tyrande is used as a gank support in roaming squads, whereas Tassadar is mostly for solo laning, vision and Burst aoe in the infamous Archon toilet comps. She is defenitly viable at the highest level of play, the real question is just if her kit is what you are looking for. If she were to be buffed it should be with some sort of escape Talent. Such as an improvement to her speed buff on Q that automatically gives herself a speed buff aswell.

Sprint is basically my favorite talent on every character that its available on. So much utility for catching runners after close plays, so much utility for flee'ing. It is a shame her sprint overlaps with stuff like shrink ray, which is just an insane utility spell.

I love Tyrande, still my favorite hero to play as can be seen here.
I went owl build about 90% of these games, both pre and post sylvanas patch.
