PTR Patch Notes General
New Special Event: Obey the Call + Show Spoiler + Slay heroes in Kel’Thuzad’s name to earn in-game rewards before the event concludes on September 25, 2017! Each quest in this four-part chain must be completed in order, and only one quest will be active at any given time. Games played in Versus A.I., Quick Match, Unranked, and Ranked modes all count toward quest progress. Games played during the Acolyte, Necromancer, and Lich Lord quests must be won in order to earn takedown credit. Quests and Rewards Ghoul: Play a game with Kel’Thuzad present on either team. Reward: Ghoul Portrait Acolyte: Achieve 30 takedowns in winning games. Reward: Acolyte Portrait Necromancer: Achieve 60 takedowns in winning games. Rewards: Necromancer Portrait and Necromancer’s Blight Spray The Lich Lord: Achieve 90 takedowns in winning games. Rewards: Kel’Thuzad Portrait and Naxxramas Warcrest Banner
PTR Note: While elements of this event may be visible on the Public Test Realm, any progress or rewards earned during PTR testing will not transfer to the live version of the game when this patch is officially released next week.
Ranked Play + Show Spoiler + 2017 Ranked Season 3 Once today’s patch arrives to the live version of Heroes of the Storm, 2017 Ranked Season 2 will officially come to a close, and Season 3 will begin! League standings will be reset and all players will need to play through 10 Placement Matches in order to receive their new starting ranks in Hero and Team Leagues for 2017 Season 3. The matchmaking system’s certainty level in all players’ matchmaking ratings will once again be loosened in order to make it a little easier to move up and down the rankings during initial matches this season. Placement Matches Players with high matchmaking ratings (MMR) can now place as high as 1,000 points into Master League. Grandmaster League Promotions into Grandmaster League will now occur 2 weeks after a new Ranked Season begins.
New Hero: Kel'Thuzad + Show Spoiler + Kel'Thuzad has faithfully served the Lich King both in life and after death. Reanimated as the Archlich of the Scourge and given domain of the Dread Necropolis, Naxxramas, Kel’Thuzad remains Arthas’s most trusted advisor and master of the cold dark.
Trait
Master of the Cold Dark Quest: Gain 1 Blight every time a Hero is Rooted by Frost Nova or hit by Chains of Kel'Thuzad. Reward: After gaining 15 Blight, the cooldown of all Basic Abilities is reduced by 2 seconds. Reward: After gaining 30 Blight, gain 75% Spell Power.
Basic Abilities
Death and Decay (Q) After 0.5 seconds, launch an orb that explodes upon hitting an enemy, dealing damage to enemies in the area. The explosion leaves behind a pool of decay that lasts 2 seconds, dealing damage every 0.5 seconds to enemies. Frost Nova (W) Create a nova that explodes after 1 second, dealing damage to enemies inside and Slowing them by 35% for 2.5 seconds. Enemies in the center are Rooted for 1 second. Chains of Kel'Thuzad (E) Launch a chain, dealing damage to the first enemy Hero or Structure hit. For 4 seconds after hitting an enemy, Chains can be reactivated to launch to an additional enemy, pulling both enemies together and Stunning them for 0.5 seconds.
Heroic Abilities
Frost Blast (R) Launch a meteor of ice at an enemy Hero. Upon impact, the meteor deals damage to its target and damages enemies in the area. All enemies hit by Frozen Tomb are Rooted for 1.5 seconds. Shadow Fissure (R) Create a fissure anywhere on the Battleground that explodes after 1.5 seconds, dealing damage to enemies in its area.

Heroes, Abilities, and Talents
Talent: Cleanse and similar Talents have received updated effects in order to increase visual clarity. Nazeebo: The Jar and Spiders spawned by Corpse Spiders have received updated effects in order to increase visual clarity. Quest System Updates
Visual effects that appear around a Hero upon completing a Talent or Ability Quest have been updated to make them more visually apparent. The following Heroes have updated art to coincide with quest system updates: Chromie Jaina
User Interface + Show Spoiler + Quest System Updates
A quest column has been added to the Talents tab on the in-game Score Screen. Baseline quests, such as Kel’Thuzad’s Master of the Cold Dark or Nazeebo’s Voodoo Ritual, will appear in this column and quest progress will be visible to all players in the match. Notifications will now appear in the in-game Event Log (AKA Kill Feed) whenever a player completes a quest or reaches an important quest milestone. Quest resets will now appear next to the portrait of the slain enemy in the Event Log. Ex: Flamestrike’s icon art will appear next to Kael’thas’ portrait in the Event Log if he is killed prior to completing the Convection quest. Upon completing a quest, a personal notification will now display for the player at the top center of the screen stating the name of the completed quest.

Added to Rotation Infernal Shrines Tomb of the Spider Queen Removed from Rotation Towers of Doom Warhead Junction Garden of Terror The full Ranked Battleground Rotation is now as follows: Battlefield of Eternity Blackheart's Bay Braxis Holdout Cursed Hollow Dragon Shire Infernal Shrines Sky Temple Tomb of the Spider Queen As a reminder, Hanamura has been temporarily removed from all play modes except Custom Games in order to undergo changes. As a result, the new rotation will feature 8 Battlegrounds, rather than 9.
Chromie + Show Spoiler + Abilities
Sand Blast (Q) Scaling reduced from 4% to 2% per level. Damage reduced from 400 to 300. !Quest added: Hit 80 Heroes with Sand Blast. Hitting with consecutive casts counts as 2 hits. !Rewards: Increase Sand Blast damage by 5 for each Hero hit. After hitting 80 Heroes, Sand Blast leaves an Echo behind. The next time Sand Blast is cast, the Echo also casts an untalented Sand Blast that deals 40% damage.
Talents
Level 1 (New) Mounting Sand (Q) If Chromie hits with a third consecutive Sand Blast, it counts as hitting 3 Heroes. Level 2 (New) Timely Surprise (E) Sand Blast and Dragon's Breath's cooldowns are reset when Time Trap is triggered. Level 11 (New) Here and There (Active) Activate to have Chromie swap places with her Sand Blast Echo. 30 second cooldown. Level 18 Past and Future Me (Q) Removed. Piercing Sands (Q) Moved from Level 2. Adjusted Functionality: Sand Blast now pierces targets, dealing damage to any additional Heroes hit. Loophole (R) Removed. (New) Stuck in a Loop (R) Temporal Loop teleports the target a second time after the first completes.

Level 7 Frostbitten (Passive) Removed Ice Floes (E) New Functionality: Doubles the width of Cone of Cold. Hitting Chilled enemy Heroes with Cone of Cold reduces its cooldown by 2.5 seconds, up to a 5 second maximum reduction. (New) Icefury Wand (Passive) Your basic attacks against Chilled targets deal 75% bonus damage and reduce the cooldown of Blizzard by 1 second. Level 20 Improved Ice Block (Active) Removed Arcane Power (Active) Removed (New) Ice Blink (Active) Activate to teleport a short distance and Chill nearby enemies. 60 second cooldown. Cold Snap (R) Now also reduces the cooldown of Ring of Frost by 10 seconds per enemy Hero hit. Deep Chill (Trait) Moved from Level 1 New Functionality: Frostbite’s slow amount now stacks a second time, slowing enemy Heroes by up to 40%.
Lt. Morales + Show Spoiler + Miscellaneous
Morales now uses Energy to fuel her Healing Beam. All other abilities are free to cast. Morales can hold up to 100 Energy.

Caduceus Reactor (Trait) New Functionality: While channeling Healing Beam, Morales heals herself for 2% of her maximum life per second. Healing Beam (Q) Channeling Healing Beam costs 6 Energy per second Morales generates 6 Energy per second after not channeling Healing Beam for 3 seconds. Safeguard (W) Cooldown reduced from 15 seconds to 12 seconds Displacement Grenade (E) A visual indicator for the detonation area is now visible to Lt. Morales. When a slow is removed this way, the cooldown of Safeguard is reduced by 4 seconds. (New) Vanadium Plating (W) Safeguard grants an additional 25 Armor while the bearer is Stunned and its duration does not decay. Prolonged Safeguard (W) Moved from Level 1 New Functionality: Increase Safeguard duration by 50%. Level 13 Intensive Care (Q) Removed Couples Therapy (Q) Removed Preventative Care (Q) Removed Spell Shield (Active) Removed (New) EMP Grenade (Q) Displacement Grenade deals increased damage to shields and additional damage over 2 seconds. Second Opinion (W) Moved from Level 16 New Functionality: If Displacement Grenade hits 2 or more Heroes, its cooldown is reduced to 1 second. Level 16 (New) Extended Care (Q) Increases the range of Healing Beam by 40%. (New) First Responder (Q) If you have more than 70 energy, your Healing Beam heals for 25% more. Shield Sequencer (W) New Functionality: Safeguard gains an additional charge. Level 20 Transfusion (R) Removed Medbay (R) Removed Caduceus Reactor 2.0 (Trait) New Functionality: Increases the healing of Caduceus Reactor from 2% to 6%. Storm Shield Removed (New) Hyperactivity (R) Reduces the cooldown of Stim Drone from 90 seconds to 45 seconds and increases the movement speed bonus from 25 to 50%. (New) Safe Zone (R) Heroes are Protected from damage for 2 seconds after unloading from Medivac Dropship. (New) Reinforcements (Active) Reduces the cooldown of Medivac Dropship from 60 to 30 seconds. Activate to call down a Medivac at your Hall of Storms that only allies can enter. Activate again to order the Dropship to travel to the original cast location and unload its cargo. 30 second cooldown. Shares a cooldown with Medivac Dropship.

Fixed a number of typo and tooltip errors across several aspects of the game.
Battlegrounds
Boss: Captured Bosses will now correctly use their area of effect Abilities when attacking down a lane. Haunted Mines: Fixed an issue that could cause Heroes to become Invulnerable for a fraction of a second while entering or exiting the Mines. Try Mode: Sentinel will now correctly gain bonus damage after completing the Ranger Talent’s quest using the Complete Quests button.
Heroes, Abilities, and Talents
Stasis: Fixed an issue in which cooldowns for self-cast Stasis effects, such as Ice Block, or Chromie’s Time Out, would not count down until respawn if the Hero was killed immediately after that Stasis effect concluded. Arthas: After learning the Shattered Armor Talent, Heroes rooted by Frost Presence’s quest reward will now correctly have their Armor reduced. Azmodan: Manually clicking the All Shall Burn Ability will no longer cause a framerate drop. Chen: Will no longer gain multiple Freshest Ingredient stacks when collecting a single Regeneration Globe if multiple allied Heroes are nearby. Chen: Medivh’s Ley Line Seal can no longer cause Chen and his Storm, Earth, Fire Spirits to exist at the same time. Cho: Rune Bomb’s area of effect indicator will no longer visually shrink if Cho’gall was affected by the Shrink Ray Talent while casting Rune Bomb. D.Va: Fixed an issue that could cause D.Va to become unresponsive when entering the Dragon Knight or Garden Terror after using Lt. Morales’ Medivac. Garrosh: Intimidation will no longer slow non-Heroic enemies’ attack speeds. Garrosh: Fixed an issue that could cause Wrecking Ball to fail to throw a target but go on a full cooldown. Greymane: Can now correctly cast Go for the Throat a second time after using the Ability to kill D.Va’s Mech. Muradin: Haymaker will now properly knock back and damage secondary targets in its path. Muradin: Fixed an issue that caused Muradin’s abilities to cast quickly and without animations if queued up during Dwarf Toss. Li-Ming: Learning the Zei’s Vengeance and Arcane Orbit Talents will no longer cause Arcane Orb to deal reduced damage at close-range. Lt. Morales: Medivac UI will no longer persist on-screen when entering the Medivac as it is destroyed. Samuro: Switching places with a Mirror Image will no longer cancel queued commands. Samuro: Clicking a control group to select a Mirror Image after learning Illusion Master will no longer cancel active Move Commands being carried out by that Image. Stitches: Hook will now cancel abilities that can be channeled while moving, such as Azmodan’s All Shall Burn. The Butcher: Floating Combat Text will now correctly display Crit damage dealt by Basic Attacks benefitting from the Brutal Strike Talent.
Sound
Stukov: Massive Shove’s sound effects will no longer persist after the target is killed or collides with terrain.
User Interface
Draft Mode: Fixed an issue preventing players from selecting the Lunar Rooster Mount in Draft Lobbies.

From the video I was expecting some kind of mind control / corruption ability in the form of powerful CC. Meh. Abilities do looking interesting though I wonder how he'll pair up against Jaina, given both are frost mages.

getting corrupted by power is different then going evil. Jaina already went evil and wanted to destroy the Horde, well Ogrimmar atleast. Didnt need to go Guldan and bow her head to a greater power. Or have her self being twisted. Just enslaved the power she needed.
I know its non cannon fun stuff. But it just feels so out of character for her.
But tbh I am just salty she gets a skin I wont be liking. While the event skins are being held hostage ;_; .

Trailer was evil anyway. When Hammer and Johanna got frozen and chained, I was like omg more skin announcement and evil Hammer and Johanna ?! And the trailer went ... nope just making Kel look badass, by not looking at the explosion.

With ming, chromie, guldan, ragnaros and probius I had hoped that Blizzard had managed to figure out how to make really different mage kits, but other than the chain Kel's design doesn't feel that original. (edit-> which would be fine, except it's Kel'thuzzad. Seems like he should get a really different/fun kit like guldan or medivh, not a "I do damage in circles!" archetype.)

I don't think "bad" or "boring" is what I'm getting at. It lacks a certain amount of innovation which I would expect for a major character. This feels kind of similar to the Zul'jin and Cassia releases---- nice heroes, but solidly within the "I'm a different flavor of autoattacker" context rather than "whoa, that's quite different from what we've seen before". I do think it is healthy for the game to have lots of flavors of similar kits(zul'jin, cassia, valla, raynor, sgt hammer), but I'd prefer to see major characters have divergent kits. (like greymane, chromie, medivh, abathur, tlv)
Then again, maybe I'm wrong--- maybe well known characters should be the "staples" since people are more likely to test them out when they first enter the game.
I don't know much about him aside from what I saw in the WC3 campaign. I expected him to be a necromancer of some sort rather than an ice mage, but I know things change in WoW often. And, I never finished the WC3 campaign, so it's possible I didn't see stuff that would make sense in this context.

well he was an ice mage once he turned lich in Wc3. I think they added a new mage that is different from the other mages in playstyle. Can't do more then that o.o . (since quest talents deny any special stuff like TLV until they make quest target exceptions)

I kind of agree with you, I think out of that list, that would be rag and dva for me, to an extent. I think they have interesting concepts but they don't "wow" you as much as the aforementioned heroes imo. I think Stukov is very fun to play btw, it's just that I want to see some more crazy concepts, or very high skilled heroes!

Ah ok, i know what you mean now. Most of those "out of the box" heroes are real niche picks or not for competitive play at all. Maybe they want to concentrate on that? Dunno I don't think they lack on concepts or ideas for those heroes. It's just difficult to implement them i guess

Yeah double KT is going to be confusing. Maybe KZ? The abilities themselves didn't look very special but his talents are quite interesting.
I think the lvl 4 talent for instant respawn is going to be a must pick though. Maybe not at lvl 4 when death timers are short, but once you hit 10 and you have 10 globes, you can effectively dive and die for free whilst heavily CC-ing the enemy team and then just come back whilst you and your team mop up.
Maybe it should have a little wind-up/res time where you can be attacked whilst ressing or something or I can see this effectively giving Kel'Thuzad a second life bar and being abused as such. Does take a while to get 10 globes I suppose.

It's an interesting talent since it forces you to respawn in base(so it doesn't really help teamfights), and the level it happens at(low death timer = not very useful ability). You're likely going to get close to no value out of the talent until level 16+, so the question is "is it worth it to get no value out of your level 4 talent for 12+ levels, and even then have a talent which doesn't actively help in a teamfight."

Yeah I like "KZ".
I'm also a little uncertain about how KZ scales with his Master of the Cold Dark talent, because it sounds like his spell power starts underpowered and then finally, after enough quest points, he scales up to nearly twice as strong. So either he'll be irrelevant damage-wise early game or late game... I guess most of his utility will be in CC and displacement, whereas in late game there's additional utility in his damage.

Its a nice mix up. Instead of Damage from the start and getting CC added on later, you have CC from the start and get damage later. Which is probably needed, because otherwise he would dominate early game with a cc tank/support. The chains with Malf and then Kel also dealing full damage early game before cleanse.

Jaina is ok but you have to be so careful until you finish quest or gain shield at 13. She is sooo squishy with no escapes, decent damage though

Jaina is so powerful now, especially if people force teamfights against you and you have iceblock before 10. And chilled targets + 2 mages + kel chains = Gazlow Wombo combo now with only 10 seconds cooldown. Only works in QM though thanks to heroes being immune to mages thanks to passiv abilities that require no skill.
Oh and of course running at enemy Kel as Jaina, dodging his combo and blowing him up.

Kel'Thuzad is fun, but really skill shot and stack dependent. If you can get your stacks and hit your skill shots and combos and stay safely positioned you can dominate, but there are other games where you get dove on, don't get stacks, and barely contribute.

she will be a skillshot healer just like in OW. They just broke up her healing and damage skill shot into healing skillshot and Lunara autoattack. In OW its just intelligent Nano Machines that either deal damage or heal, depending on if they hit friend or foe.
With Sleepdart and er Grenade she will also be the highly risky to flank healer just like in OW. And in general make every attack super risky, because she can prevent healing and take one person out of the equasion.

Can't wait to play Junkrat in Heroes, one of my favorite characters from OW. Ana is definitely going to be a hard hero to play, and that sleep dart is just another CC to rage at when you get blown up in 2 seconds lol.

Developer Comment: Only about 40% of Chromie players were unlocking the echo over the course of a game, and among players that did it was occurring later than we’d like. By reducing the requirements for completing Chromie’s quest, we won’t increase her late game power at all, but make her output a little more consistent.

Developer Comment: As expected, there is a fairly large discrepancy between Kel’Thuzad’s performance across the entire game vs. players who are getting experienced with him at a higher level. His win-rate has climbed more than most of our other releases as players get used to his kit, so most of our changes are aimed at talent balance and toning his power down. While we like the sharpness of his power spike due to Master of the Cold Dark, we’ll continue to keep an eye on his burst potential and his overall strength going forward.

Developer Comment: While we’ll be continuing to keep an eye on it, we believe that the Butcher’s quest tuning is appropriate. He has seen a significant drop in win rate in Hero League since our last round of changes, so we felt it was appropriate to increase his late-game Health so that he can keep up with other heroes, who often get many tools to survive his initial damage in teamfights.

Developer Comment: While Brightwing has been seeing a bit more play recently, her talent tree had some low-hanging fruit that we wanted to trim. Granting her a slightly larger range of Soothing Mist baseline will free up a more impactful choice at level 1. The addition of Arcane Barrage’s functionality into Dream Shot should also make that talent a bit more exciting to pick up. Overall, we were looking at giving the Faerie Dragon a few minor buffs and adjusting some talents in order to increase parity amongst her talent tiers.

Developer Comment: We realize how difficult it is for most Chen players to pass up Brewmaster’s Balance on Tier 3. We moved a powerful level 20 down to compete with it a couple patches ago but the data is still showing it as an underperformer. Lowering the cooldown drastically and granting it the functionality of Grounding Brew should incentivize players into choosing it when playing against certain team compositions.

Developer Comment: These changes are a response to community feedback about Garrosh’s Mana costs. We initially kept them relatively low, as he is a fairly low impact Warrior when his combo is not available to him, however we agreed with the feedback and felt that he could use more Mana management.

Alarak: Casting Counter-Strike will now display a silver healthbar to indicate Protected status. Chromie: The Deep Breathing talent’s completed damage bonus will now match the tooltip located below her unit frame. Jaina: The Frost Armor talent will no longer cause Jaina’s damage to ignore armor. Leoric: Fixed an issue that could cause Leoric to become invisible after exiting Zagara’s Devouring Maw. Lt. Morales: Fixed an issue that caused Lt. Morale’s Displacement Grenade to reduce healing dealt after learning the System Shock talent. Uther: Fixed an issue causing Uther to gain extra damage and healing on consecutive casts of Wave of Light. Uther: Uther's Hammer of Justice will no longer apply a 30% slow after the Stun effect fades.
