The After Hours Gaming League is a fun, modern twist to the traditional corporate sports league. Instead of softball or basketball, the AHGL offers corporate teams the chance for some friendly competition on the virtual battlefields of top strategy games. The AHGL is also a fundraiser for charity: corporate teams compete for the chance to donate the $5,000 top cash prize to the charity of their choice.
FactSet roflstomped with that jarvan ! Is Day9 going to castt any game one day or another ? I will be so glad to hear him even if he don't know shit about the game !
It's cool that you can get the players' usernames from the profiles page on the site, and then look them up in the client and get all their stats.
The Starcraft portion should implement something like that, except maybe link it to their BNet profile? (cuz we all know blizzard isn't letting us look up anything in game )
The matches will be live commentated at different times each week depending on the team's availability. There will also be different casters each week, so if you're not a huge fan of my or Nhat's casting (though who wouldn't be a fan of his?), there will be other casters in the future.
VoD's will be available via the AHGL site. Let me know if you have any questions! Oh, and Day[9] will be on SotL later this week to discuss the League of Legends side of it.
I'm guessing that the "Matches" section is where VoDs will go, but the page is completely blank and the "view match" button on the schedule page are all null links.
All videos will be embedded in the "Matches" section and also wherever the caster normally distributes their VODs. Most matches will happen on Sunday between 11am and 4pm PST, keep an eye on the @AHGLtv twitter for who's casting and where to watch!

When is SotL exactly? I feel like it happens at different times and different days every single week, and of course there is no TL thread about it so i'm very much in the dark :O
Day[9] will be on SotL this Wednesday (tomorrow) at 5pm PST if you want to check it out. Also the website is still being finished and casting is still being locked down and scheduled, so follow @AHGLtv for casting announcements this week until the website holds more info.
LoL casting in general will be every Sunday between 11am and 3pm PST. Hope that helps!
yea, guyco's Anivia is pretty legit. he was actually beating himself up a bit after that game for a couple of the walls, but I thought he played a really solid game.
I loved his walls on the ramp from jungle to dragon, keep microsoft away from you guys. very slick. also he had a pretty slick juke when trundle came to gank and didn't even get an auto off. thats hard to do with ani because she is so slow. he also hit a few very clutch snowballs. overall i was very impressed with his play.
On January 26 2012 07:29 Mogwai wrote: every team we've played thus far has run their captain (always highest elo player thus far) as ranged AD.
As someone who's not in that league and who isn't high elo, do you think this is because they're probably the best player on the team at CSing and thus run ranged AD almost out of necessity? Or is it just a weird coincidence?
hmm, I'm not sure. I know at least one of the guys looked like a lee sin main when we were scouting and then he played sivir or something, but I'm not sure if that's just because other players on his team were more comfortable jungling or if it was because he just wanted to put himself there to ensure good CS on the ranged carry. tough to say from the outside.
AD carry is the best lane to dominate if you're going to do it. If you get fed as the ad carry you become pretty much unstoppable if your teammates have half a brain and can keep you alive. The best scaling champion getting extra gold is the way to go in my opinion.
There are some top lanes that snowball well though and become just as absurd though. Akali is probably the best example of this off the top of my head.
Also you need to tell that hobbes chap to get a randuins. The item is so crazy good against ranged carries it totally locks them down if they're attacking you and reduces their damage as well so you can just run up to them and slap their shit. Your jarman can insta burst their other champions but vayne was too far back for your combo and you needed the deer to lock up their vayne when kennen went in.
Dispite my vast disrespect for AD carrys all my experience with no ad carry comps either get destroyed in tower sieges or wrecked by really farmed tanks/bruisers who we can't kill. You'd want to include a melee carry like jax or trynd or a solo lane AD like corki, that said I am too lazy to find vods unless they are posted on TL so I don't know the details of the game until I get around to the looking at the website.

Eh, it was mostly a clusterfuck of bad midgame teamfights with shitty focus I think. Gonna watch the replays, but I don't think the issue was so much that we didn't have enough damage as it was that we weren't diving hard enough for their Cait and then shifting focus to the vlad properly. I just feel like I saw Lee Sin and Wu Kong at low HP at the end of every fight with one of their carries sitting around with full HP.
I'm a pretty lenient person when it comes to quality and I'm understanding and I realise that sometimes things don't work out right. But there's really no excuse for not testing your graphics and sound settings in the client before starting the match. If the VoDs are anything like this, I really don't think I could watch them either because all the flickering is painful to watch.

Same.
I can handle bad casting (mute ftw). But this flickering is unbelievable...
Disagree with FactSec there. Should have just backed right after taking that first mid tower and healed up. Being indecisive at low mana let Google take two free mid towers.

maybe im just bias due to smash being a TL poster but i think the most interesting part of the early game was jarven vs kennen, locking him out of cs sooo hard is always gonna be huge. but the spectator seemed to be in love with bottom lane. the only time exciting things happened bottom was when smash TP'd down :D

It was more like he had no clue what to talk about. Alistar started without pots, Udyr and WK both cloth+5, no comment from him e.g.
Then Jarman top had 80cs vs Kennens 40ish and his comment on the situation is that JARVAN HAS LIKE TWICE OF KENNENS HEALTHBARS. =S
Highlight of the game for me was Smash TPing to dragon to fuck around 1n3 and stop it. huehue.
Spoiler alert! Haven't had time to watch the game yet, lol.
Are the vods for this getting posted on the website? Didn't seem to be when I last checked. EDIT: I'm bad. I followed through the youtube channel haxx. FactSet vs Google : + Show Spoiler +
Ha, one of my friends was playing Kennan on the MS team. I hadn't talked to him in forever so I forgot he even worked there, thanks AHGL :D
And to the above: there is nothing of substance on the ahgl site. No real schedule, no link to any sort of stream, no vods, no nothing. I can't find jack shit anywhere about this tourney.

God, that game was horrible to watch. Not because the game was bad, cause, y'know, Smash was in there, but the quality of the recording and the casters is SO bad, it's not even fun.
Favorite part of the commentary though: ''SmashGizmo establishing the early game dominance he's known for.'' Awww yeah, da Smash making a name for himself.
And, being the gentleman he is, Smash ends the game with a ''gg, wp ''.
Oh, so this is the league for old people with jobs. When we gonna see a SmashGizmo e-sports baby named MacGizmo. Your biological clock is ticking Smash.

Just wondering smash, but on a scale of 1-10, how serious is after hours gaming league in your company? Also, how is the atmosphere after a game. If someone messes up, do they get demoted or yelled at in real life?

can't tell if troll...
it's like 1 or 2, and obviously no yelling at in real life, it's a charity, just-for-fun event. we want to win but it's all in good fun.
wow small world, if that corki's IGN is plawg then I play normals with him pretty often, added him in S1 when his ori ult completely turned a game around by stealing baron/acing other team.
well, yea. guess that's arrogant of me to say, but I think I've earned it. I just gotta find a way to carry harder in this tourney, was really not prepared for the wukong ban on Sunday.
Is this a US only thing? We have a few SC2 players that would be interested in competing (myself included) from the UK. I guess the timezones would be difficult! Maybe we should start an EU one too!
So I joined the Microsoft team as jungler ... it's been a pretty aggravating experience to be honest. I've just been playing a lot of solo queue at 1800+ and there's plays/reads/whatnot I expect people to be able to make that the AHGL team doesn't necessarily. Still trying to find a way to deal with that and still stay mentally even because I really don't handle losing well.
To restate a point Smash made, I guess I just have to find a way to carry games harder.

you're lucky you don't work for a smaller tech company then, cause microsoft was already decent, so if they're aggravating you, man, I don't even wanna know what you'd be like on the Factset team, lol. Should be an interesting end of the season though, seems like Amazon, EA, Microsoft, Google, Factset, Epic, E&Y, and Intel are all competitive teams (I'd say I listed them in order of strength right now).
Anyway, we should scrim sometime, I think we'll be doing some practice on Wednesday night around 10ish EST if you want to see if you can get your team together.
Yeah, it's a mental thing that I need to get over. I just don't have much experience playing in a team setting (other than normal 5s with friends) and I've only been on the team for like a week so I'm still working on adjusting to the situation. I think I need to be more assertive I but it's not my biggest strength.
Regarding scrimming, is Thursday an option or just Wednesday?
Part of the problem is also ranked 5s on US. There's not really a better way to practice but ranked 5s generally ends up either our team stomping some really mediocre team or us getting stomped by a team of 2k+ solo queue players. Of the ~15 games we've played, maybe 3 have been reasonably competitive.

yea, likewise. hate to say it, but I feel like below the top level, the old system for ranked 5s was much much better for competitive 5s games.
OK, I'm starting to get a little annoyed, apart from this thread, there's practically no useful information on this entire league out there.
I mean the casters are seemingly random and the games are posted by the casters on youtube or wherever, so they're scattered everywhere. All the links to VODs are broken on the site and it gives no information other than a vague timeframe that sometimes is and sometimes isn't adhered to...
Yeah the website for the League side of AHGL is pretty awful. The videos links work though. Just go to "Videos" and click on the picture, not the little link below it.

Yeah I really want to watch this tournament but i feel like it's very difficult. It says every Wednesday but last week there was nothing and i'm curious about this week now as well. If anyone could let me know i'd appreciate it. I don't want to watch vods i'm looking for it live. Thanks
Hey folks, sorry about the frustration. Part of the reason you hear about stuff so late is because teams have until midweek to tell us what time they can hook up, and then that's when we're able to start looking for casters to cover that specific time. I'll try and give you more of a heads up on who's going to be casting, when, what, and where.
For this week, EA and Amazon is locked in at 12 PM on Sunday. Baron from the IPL will be casting it, I'll try and get you a stream URL, but if I fail for some reason, keep an eye on Twitter around that time.
We're also trying to get the Amazon vs Microsoft game cast, but it looks like the time on that is up in the air right now.
I'll also pass along your frustrations with the site. I'm sorry about that. I know that all of us are really excited about this league, it's just a matter of dealing with the complications.

good shit guys, I was starting to worry that Amazon was going to go undefeated. Looks like we're going to have a wild playoffs here, so many competitive teams...
OK this is obviously a bad way to communicate, but Microsoft is trying to confirm that Intel has actually forfeited. Anybody know how I can get in touch with one of the AHGL admins?

oh well.
Just out of curiosity, is there any reason your team was blue both games? Especially given that you're likely the best player in the tournament, EA getting the map spawns that allow them to camp you easiest seems like kind of a HUGE advantage.
we picked blue side. it's actually harder to camp top as purple because you can't go behind them through tribrush so you don't have as many approach angles at a neutral lane.
We wanted 2nd pick both games so that I could counter pick Smash if I felt it was necessary, which is another reason we ended up purple (when we got our choice we chose to choose the picks over the map)
I picked Vlad into Panth because I know that Vlad can win the matchup at level 7 without too much trouble. Their team had so much CC that I didn't want to pick a melee bruiser into it again for team fights. It just meant we had to camp top harder for the first few levels of the game, which was our strat going into it anyways.

I guess that true. I was just thinking that a blue level 2 gank much less scary then a red level 2 gank.... and a red level 2 gank on top from blue side mean you just behind. Too much running.

yea, as I said, i figured you'd have the j4 come top asap, so I asked udyr to countergank, but it seems we had some miscommunication oh well, you guys definitely did a good job of CPing me and shutting me down early every time we played.

Missed =(, all I know is that Wukong was banned. Picks:
We lost to EA 1-2. Was a pretty good series - in general I think EA had slightly better team play and was more familiar with their comp than we were.
We were definitely caught off guard in the first game. We were playing way too overextended with the threat of flash suppression that you guys had in that comp.
Second game was a lot of back and forth - with EA getting many of the early game objectives, but us being up in kills and tower. We ended up edging out ahead though
Third game we threw away in the first dragon fight lol. We were up, but lost dragon, and 3-4 deaths. Game snowballed from there. Dead karthus on Jarvan ult 2stronk.
Yeah, that dragon at the start of game 3 was super close. We got Dragon and 4 kills, but everyone on our team was at about 10% health. Could've swung the other direction. Was super close.
The Karthas pick was because we couldn't stop you guys from killing us in game 2. Needed a way to combat the threat of that AoE initiation. Wukong hurt so badly.
Tune in at http://day9.tv/live to watch the After Hours Gaming League Grand Finals on April 21st 2012! The League of Legends portion of the event will start at 1:00pm PDT (10pm CET) and the StarCraft II portion will start at 5:00pm PDT (2:00am CET). It'll be casted live by Phreak and Rivington the 3rd.
Lee sin ganks bot lane, but has to retreat as mundo is there to countergank.
CS levels still even all around.
MId lane action, Malz flashes forward to Vlad while Lee comes from the side, but Mundo is there yet again. More lulling about mid and Vlad gets pushed out.
Meanwhile top, Urgot is pushing lane but is nearly oom, looking to base soon.
7 minutes, Mundo is outfarming Lee by 14, bot lane Cait is up 11 cs, Top lane even and mid lane going in very slight favor to Vlad. No kills, no map objectives attempted yet. Blues should be respawning soon.
Urgot harasses Shen down to critical health, Lee goes headhunting between turrets for him, but Shen sees him in time and gets out without incident. Vlad is gaining a lead on cs over Malz. Shen is starting to fall behind to Urgot in nearly equal manner though, evening it out.
Lee sin goes bot lane and catches Soraka warding tri brush, flashes in front of her and Dragon Kicks her backwards, into Lulu and Graves, picking up first kill for EA.
Urgot swaps Shen top lane into a Lee gank, but Shen gets away.
Malz catches Vlad mid lane from the side into an ult + ignite. Vlad pools low health, uses Heal after, but the Space Aids is too stronk, Malz picks up 2nd kill for EA.
EA goes for dragon. They pick it up and pick also Mundo who went in to try a steal.
18 minutes, dragon for each team, EA 3-0 in the lead and evens the gold.
Wow that first blood seemed like a huge morale boost for EA. They've started to play with a lot more confidence, and are making pretty nice plays all around.
Fight at bot lane, lee dies, Graves super low, Soraka dies as well, Malz ult goes on to Cait, picking up the kill. Mundo barely escapes with his ult healing him through Urgot's Acid Hunters. 2 to 1 for EA, they proceed to take down bottom turret.
Oh dear - that dragon fight went horribly wrong for EA ... lost 5 for 1. Malz ulting Cait with nobody else on his team able to follow through, and perfect Vlad ult.
Vlad did finish Void Staff, has Rabadon and Wota as well.
Big fight coming in and...stream breaks!
Vlad goes down while everyone on EA is really low, Urgot finally goes down, but Amazon gets ACED. 3 people on EA under 150hp at the end of it. Lulu's ult was big.
Lulu ult so strong. Urgot stayed alive for at least 20-30 seconds longer due to it, and got his damage off. Amazing(luckyish) fight by EA to turn that around. Pretty much Amazon sees EA coming from golem jungle due to ward, and cuts them off first. Vlad ults two people including the urgot who gets caught, but Lulu ult saves him for long enough for him to get his grenade off + do the damage required.
I think with that (under the tower) fight, they were trying to chain the Urgot ult into a Malz ult, but Malz ulted early, preventing the 100-0 on Vlad and allowing him the ult=>pool.
Baffling fight in EA's jungle with Lee Sin using Safeguard like a boss - Cait almosts looks like she'll finish off EA but instead Amazon get aced, with EA losing only one.
Malz catches one with ult in river near baron, Mundo falls, Vlad drops, Shen dies. Gaves is super low but out of the fight, Soraka goes down. Lee eats a cupcake under tower and dies!
EA goes to grab 4man baron, cait only one alive. Cait picks up Lulu at baron! gets out alive, nice job.
On April 22 2012 06:27 Ryuu314 wrote: vlad should've gone rylais instead of void staff/SV imo that void staff is kinda wasted seeing how there's no big MR on EA.
EA making 5 man push mid turret, stream lags! Poke exchanged, but nothing lasting happening. Baron heals EA, Soraka heals Amazon.
Turret goes down, EA looks to engage
Malz catches Vlad in ult who gets gibbed, Malz goes down in return. EA on the run, Amazon loses cait and mundo. Shen and soraka fighting a 2v3, get taken out and EA aces! 3 people alive, Urgot didn't lose his GA (when he got that lol?). Take mid inhib turret and inhib down.
They keep pushing forward! Vlad revives and punishes them for not backign in time, taking out Lee.
Soraka and Shen both built Locket, Lulu is looking to pick that up for EA's side. Vlad steals EA's blue from under their nose.
Vlad is prime target for Malz though, has Sorc shoes and doesn't have QSS, most definately dead everytime he gets caught in full duration Nether Grasp.
EA's comp is quite interesting - I guess Urgot's one of the safer ADs as a solo top, and with Lulu in the comp, anyone can get a helping of Tank-Inna-Can if needed. Not surprised Lee's going pure tank - as long as he sticks to Cait and keeps her debuffed, mission accomplished etc.
What's been happening to Vlad the last few fights is that he's been swapped in with an Urgot ult, THEN kicked behind EA by Lee's ult, then Malz ulted - no chance to pool/ult
EA catches Amazon in the jungle, taking down Mundo and Shen, losing Lee in the process. Urgot loses his GA, but Vlad eats a full duration polymorph and dies!
4 kills for 1 for EA. Both GAs from EA down though, Urgot and Graves losing them in the fight.
EA pushing for the win, almost get one nexus turret, but Cait with GA forces them out.
Caitlyn on Amazon has incredibly poor positioning at times. Uses Flash and Net offensively to get into fights instead of repositioning in the middle. They also love facechecking brush. Why no CV zzz
QSS and GA is overkill on Cait imoimo. One or the other in arranged 5s. In Solo Queue you sometimes don't get peel but in arranged 5s you should be able to call for peel.
5v5 bot lane breaks out, Lulu ult is big, graves goes down, urgot falls. EA on the full retreat. Lulu is not gonna get out of this one. Amazon loses nothing in the exchange, pushing bot lane turrets down.
Man, I don't know why they fought at bottom there out of position. EA could have ran away pretty easily, and regrouped for a fight somewhere they wanted. Instead, they fight where they are not comfortable.
Also Amazon unkillable GA+Randuin+Warmogs Shen not splitpushing?
EDIT: Nvm Amazon wins teamfight and aces EA lol. Cait nearly died. Shouldn't have been so close. That teamfight could have gone so much worse if EA had focused better and not split up so hard. Why not just slow push top and shove in bot with Shen zzz

Yes, horrible flashes to chase Vlad through several brushes and cliff, only to have Vlad Zhonya + pool while his team wipes the heck ouf ot EA's backline.
Vlad was farming like a beast that game. Cait also won the farm war over Graves, but not too surprised over that. Malzh spent quite a lot of time in lane phase moving towards bot lane and jungles without getting anything done while Vlad was pushing his lane, but Vlad built the early Void instead of Rylai or Zhonyas so the advantage was kinda thrown away.
Game started really slowly and carefully both sides, but then the action picked up and the game was really even until the end, gold difference hovering 1-2k.
Caitlyn zoning Amazon's bot lane completely, ahead over 10 cs.
Mundo going top for a gank, teemo had to back. Mundo exhausts olaf and teemo picks up the kill, Lee and Malz arriving to the scene just a little too late.
Mundo gets caught at EA's red buff, Lee makes an amazing kick, shoving Mundo over the wall into Olaf and flies with him with his Q, picking up the kill.
Is there a reason for Malzahar pick? Is it EA's mid favorite champion there possibly? Also bot lane seems to be outmatched. Seems like the Amazon AD carry is much better.

EA starts baron when they see Amazon base. Mundo comes in with graves. Baron goes down, Lee smites it. Fight is on, Mundo dies, Graves dies. Malz and olaf go down. Taric and morgana follow and lee sin dies as well. 4 to 3 and baron for EA.
Fight breaks out, Malz catches mundo in ult, Mundo and morgana fall, taric dies. Teemo and Graves get away, but EA has all 5 up, possibly heading for baron.
Teemo is pushing bot lane, but EA is going in on inhib turret, taking out Mundo and morgana, taric dies as well. Graves gets away, inhib turret falls. Teemo comes back from botlane and gets taken down. Lee sin dies but EA pushes for the win and take us to game 3.
Amazon's Teemo pick didn't really work out, sure he did fine in lane, but was unable to split push while 4 others defend. Olaf pretty good at forcing 5v4s through CC and just crushing through what defenses they tried to put up.

EA groups up for dragon and start it. Amazon are coming in late. EA takes dragon, Malz ult goes down, Morgana ult goes down, Malz drops. Lee sin is being chased by 4 man, keeps eating cleavers and dies, losing an oracles.
Amazon picks up 2 kills and oracles vs dragon for EA.
EA going for a sneaky baron, Graves and Soraka are down at bot lane. Mundo steals baron with smite! Dies for that with Morgana, but take down Lee. Caitlyn dies as well. Olaf dies and Lulu escapes with a sliver of health.
These fights, as soon as Malzahar uses his ult, he seems very confused on what to do next. He can't autoattack harass well enough, and his other skills aren't effective as they are more of a kite comp. So awkward to just see him running in circles in fights. He should just go suicide zerg rush mode, and sacrifice for his team so his other teammates stay alive.
Baron spawned, Amazon start it. EA is coming in full frontal assault. Good Morgana ult hits at least 3. EA gets rapidly aced, Morg ult splitting the team up. Amazon loses no one and get a free baron.
Perfect Morgana ult hitting all 5, and Olaf isn't tanky enough to zerg the AD+Support so the rest of Amazon ignores him and punishes Malz+Cait. Ace and free Baron.
Amazon making a 4 man push mid lane, EA is not in position to defend it and turret falls. Pressuring inhib turret, morgana lands a great binding on Malz, graves ult follows it up, but Lulu saved Malz at the last moment with a great ultimate.
Amazon just blow through the inhib turret, Malz gets an ult off, but his team doesn't have the damage to drop anyone, Caitlyn dies and they lose mid inhib.
