After 2 days of streaming and games I realized that LotV matches are really really fast. In games with aggressive style it ends in about 5 minutes. The longest game that I saw was a Destiny ZvT vs turtle mech and the map went out of minerals in about 25 minutes.
So, if we imagine a tournament, a Bo7 can be an hour long or even less if it ends 3-0 with aggressive games. This can open new possibilites. I remember that lot of players considered the Asus Rog's Group Stage better than the others 'cause matches were Bo5 and the results were more fair and less "lucky-dipendent".
So faster games = new tournaments format? Like: Group Stage Bo5, Ro8/Ro4 Bo7, Gran Final Bo9 ? It seems not bed in terms of time.
What do you think about it?

Bo9 Grand Finals Maybe... but it's really hard to say at this point as the game is so not figured out yet, and things will change so we should just wait and see.

people are just dying real early to shit they haven't figured out yet or properly imba shit that's going to be nerfed hard over the coming year

but balance doesn't affect the amount of minerals and their exhaustion

but balance doesn't affect the amount of minerals and their exhaustion I will eat my hat if Blizzard doesn't realize that this is an excessively inelegant and just plain ineffective solution to the 3-base mining problem in SC2 before LotV release. Keep in mind that this will be an exceptionally long beta, as stated by the Blizz themselves. And I like that hat.

but balance doesn't affect the amount of minerals and their exhaustion Map makers can change those values however they want; if people prefer HOTS style income, they don't have to use the Blizzard standard in tournament maps.

Hard to do when Blizzard controls the WCS map pool. Even if Blizzard take in maps from contests like TLMC, they will likely make some modifications to make it match their standards.

people may think so because it is more action paced, thats why we feel the games are shorter. I dont feel they are shorter if you mess with stopwatch.
Yesterday Rotterdam played ~22 games within 8h streaming, I think it is the same amount of games like in HotS.

Pretty sure it's mostly about people dying to things they are not familiar with. If that's really a problem then making bigger maps may help.

they also changed the game clock, right? a 9 minute game before only takes about 6 minutes now.

They'll have to expand the map pool to do that right? idk if that's a good thing or not based on some of the maps blizzard releases. Maybe they'll start using more community maps

Probably jumping the gun on this after just 2 days of beta. As everyone has said, people are dieing to stuff that isn't figured out /imbalanced.
|
Most games are fast because nothing is figured out and there is some really imbalanced crap in the game. As far as mining out at 25 minutes, that's approximately a 35 minute game by the old standard. If we get to too many mining out games, the mapmaking community will adjust and create more bases on each map.

People are just picking OP units and attacking with them without really having a build right now, so it's hard to say. Honestly the fact that games are more action packed is just an illusion because the early game hardly exists now. It's too early to jump to conclusion for now.

but balance doesn't affect the amount of minerals and their exhaustion It certainly does affect the speed of their exhaustion...

Too early to tell but bo9 sounds way excessive to me. I suspect in 6 months LotV average game length won't be all that different from HotS.
