- In a way this interview confirms Warcraft 4 ( There was another inteview where Tim Morten talked abot Warcraft 4 etc ) - Support for LotV with balance patches and bug fixes - Starcraft 3 could be a possibility in the future - Alot of focus on the new modes of Sc2
But they didn't say anything about Warcraft 4 and Starcraft 3. The interviewer did.
Do people really want Warcraft 4? WoW is more popular than Warcraft ever was, and I would assume most WoW players aren't RTS gamers. Like it makes very little business sense to me. I would think they would just use that IP to make more WoW.

WoW is still a juggernaught but has been declining. It won't last forever, not with Blizzard's business model. If it were run using Valve's business model, it might last indefinitely.
Well my point is that Warcraft is much better known as a MMORPG than as an RTS. Like I think there's a significant amount of people who would be like "Warcraft 4? Is that another expansion for WoW? What was Warcraft 1-3?" A lot of people don't know or care Warcraft was originally an RTS.
It would be a much more radical shift in genre than Warcraft 3 -> WoW. (And Hearthstone is more of a side-game without a plot so I don't think that qualifies. Warcraft 4 would presumably continue the plot).
I wouldn't be surprised if WoW is coming to an end. I think Blizzard knows it's time to call it quits. The last few expansions haven't been bringing and sustaining the subscribers, and I feel like Legion is the last expansion they're going to release. What could possibly top a reinvasion of Azeroth by the Burning Legion? They're bringing back the greatest villain in the lore. Players can get items like Doomhammer. To release new content they'd have to start making up new stuff which has no legacy. I guess it depends on how the story and reception pans out, and I have no idea how Blizzard would handle stopping WoW (for instance how long they'd run servers) but I can't imagine them putting much more effort into it.
As for WarCraft 4, I'm sure it'll be released at some point. There's enough interest in it, and I think a hero-based, micro-focused RTS would probably be well received what with the current popularity of MOBAs. Plus it could be a good set up for something like WoW 2.

i dont necessarily think that's the case, but we'll see. there are a lot of WoW fans that picked up the game because it was set in their favorite universe

remember when Tim Morten talked about how awesome C&C Generals was going to be during GamesCom in the summer of 2013. a few weeks later they fired everyone .. bulldozed the development studio , paved it over and turned it into a paid parking lot. Remeber how excited Tim was at GamesCom 2013.. LOL
it does not confirm WC4... what it confirms is that Tim Morten has no decision making power because he is something like 3 management layers below where those decisions get made.
to find out what is next for the RTS team you need comments from some money men ...guys like SC2 executive producer Frank Pierce or even higher.
did some nobody on the SC2 dev team at some anonymous conference in god-the-fuck-knows-where announce SC2 in May 2007? nah.. it was Mike Morhaime in Seoul Korea at WWI 2007.
when it comes to the next-big-thing for the Blizzard Strategy team.. we know that we know nothing.
for the record: SC2 - Morhaime, D3 - Morhaime, Hearthstone - Pardo, Heroes - Browder ( as VP not dev lead)

You do realize with current sub numbers they can easily sustain the MMO,right?
FFXI and EQ lasted over 10 years (EQ is still being developed) and they NEVER hit over 500k subs. If your MMO can last 10 years and peak at 500k, how long can an MMO last if its peak was 24x that?
And reinvasion of Burning Legion means nothing. The story we've fended off the legion 3 times, what's one more?

I don't think people want a Warcraft IV, they want custom games, which Dota 2 has plenty of and would probably do a better job at Blizzard would do anyway. With the current market being not really good for RTSes they'll probably make Warcraft 4 an RPG or something.

don't mean to belabour this but i'd like to be a bit more precise. Is there a small group of people who are screaming loud for WC4 and want it very badly? yes there is.
is there large enough pent up demand for a new Warcraft RTS like there was for WC3 or SC2? not even close. its probably 1 to 5 orders of magnitude smaller.
i won't be 1 bit surprised if Blizzard's strategy team is assigned to a game that competes directly with (a)Kate Upton's game ,(b) Clash of Clans and (c) Boom Beach.
i think the kate upton game is "Game of War". all i remember is her coming out of a bathtub in the commercials.
I dont see it coming anytime soon to be honest, their model right now is each series are their own genre But i think they will reach the end of the innovative ideas, they may do a wow2 but its a very risky move
I like how they're approaching the casual side of starcraft: with the campaign, cool new game modes, and a tutorial mode. As long as they make fun modes for casuals and keep PvP competitive exclusive, that would be good
Blizz has already shown re-use of the warcraft franchise in hearthstone and heroes. Would they go back to RTS at this point though? Probably not. I could see them exaggerating the RPG aspects of wc3 into a more sword n spell adventure type.
