Its a must upgrade for zerg to scout the enemy base but on the early game you dont got the gas for it-zerg need ling speed+lair+sometimes few roaches(to defend any hellion/any coming adept attack) and with the harass options like banshee/liberators/hellion/oracle/phonix/drops its just look a must upgrade and slow overlords are just not enough for making good scouting,so anyone else thinks it or got any tip how to make good scout with slow overlords on maps like ruins of sreas?

The scouting problem occurs before we talk about gas investment. EDIT: Clarified the last sentence.

If you have to wait for speed, maybe banelings, and then get to start the upgrade I don't think you have any chance to react in time to what you see. The scouting problem needs to be fixed before we can talk about gas investment. I think you did not understand me,i said that zerg has scouting problem because of cost problem of gas,so its not about a long term investment like damage upgrade its about a must upgrade to be able to survive harass stuff

It is better to morph one overlord and drop lings in the opponent base so you can scout his main and in the meantime it allows you to counter-attack to slow the incoming push. But as you mention, it's not enough on 4 player maps. I think the speed of overlord without the upgrade should be increased to match with the faster economy start.

Or all overlords get a speed buff about 50% for the first 10sec they live^^

Very interesting idea i have to say.Maybe you are right since the 12 workers start really hurt the overlord scout and especially on 4 player map,not to mention it encourage more early game drops

Imagine positioning queens around the map for speed boosts into drop play. It'd be the equivalent of medivac boosts.

The overlord speed needs a buff because the economy is twice as fast, the upgrade could be the same. Its very logical except for Blizz somehow.

The only difference your fix would make is the mining time of 50 gas, which is not a whole lot. Gas is mined roughly 121/60 seconds so we are looking at an earlier scouting point of 24~ seconds. Which is, as FireCake pointed out, still too late to make any good decisions. The problem is that Zerg needs scouting before that. An active ability given to the queen granting a temporary boost is actually not a terrible idea since I think buffing the standard overlord speed to a meaningful degree would make Overlords too fast.

If it is a problem with drops, then upgrading drop could just slow the Overlord back. You'd have to significantly buff their speed to achieve what people are asking for. There's a high danger that you not only make the upgrade obsolete/not needed anymore. You'd then have to re-buff the speed upgrade to make it worth resulting in overlords probably being too fast. Also, GGZerG is raising a valid point too, even though he doesn't explain it very well. But is it really needed? Maybe maps have to adjust to LotV and players, too.
