CLG.na and Koreans dropping out of this IEM is a real damper. Interested to see who ESL invites on such short notice. If it's local teams, it's going to make for a real disappointment.
|
bleh. now that koreans and clg dropping out i dont have the motivation to travel there and watch anymore
neo, whats the reason for them dropping out? some other compys?

yes its a huge disappontment, the worse part is that theres a Garena annual carnival this weekend and will affect IEM's attendance greatly.I was planning to go 1 of the event each day but due to the dropouts it seems IEM is not for me. Does any1 knows whats the advantage of going IEM? do they give out free stuff or something?
|
Yea, I was looking forward to this but my favorite team, CLG, not going is a bummer. Makes some sense I guess since there's not much to gain and a lot of expenses.
I think IEM should have handled the situation better, predicted teams not coming and focused more on having Singapore qualifiers and only 1 NA and 1 Korean team.
Anyway, the prize pool will mean more for smaller teams so that's a plus. I will probably skip the group phase and watch the semis/final.

Koreans are committed to their own League, OGN Champions. It's not worth losing games there for an IEM win. It's definitely an issue of prestige, not money.
CLG.na have IPL5 next week. It makes more sense to stay at home and rest up. They're streaming/scrimming regularly. CLG.na is actually practicing against Meat Playground right now, another IPL5 contestant.

On the ESL site they've updated a banner with the teams on it. Two Singaporean teams added, Armageddon and aL Eventpotion.com. Haven't heard of either of them, all I know is Armageddon has a Dota2 team. I'm guessing Absolute Legends will announce something today about their team.

They shouldn't have signed up for the qualifier before talking to OGN and see if they can reschedule their matches or not. I don't get these teams. Hell, CLG say they can't even go at IEM Cologne but they still play in both qualifiers and finish top 2. It's ridiculous.
|
this tournament is shaping up to be a joke. team "armageddon" is listed as a singaporean team although
1. no qualifiers were held at all for singapore 2. these people don't even have LoL accounts. THEY DON'T EVEN PLAY LOL.
they're just putting in teams they have access to without making much effort to reach out to the better teams in singapore, allowing teams like armageddon to field random people and play4lolz just to get free $ (2.5k for last place).
IEM if you care at all about your franchise, explain why armageddon even deserves this slot
|
Its really a shit tourney.... The EU teams are b-rated teams. Also AL isnt that well..
cba.. gonna watch some DH instead of this.
|
I don't really get why it should be a shit tourney, just because the big names are not in it.. Could be a good chance for "smaller" teams to get some attention and a chance for some unusual strategies to see.

Meh, BKT vs MYM/Elohell is the only thing that I'm even mildly interested in.
AL na could be entertaining too, but I honestly don't care much about them.

The 8th team was announced, it's "itadakimasu" from Singapore. I was hoping for SGS but oh well, maybe they're on vacation since GPL S1 recently ended.

Hey guys, Zenon here from the analysis desk. We realize this won't be the biggest, most epic tournament ever, but we're trying out a new format with a dedicated analysis desk and we're just generally gonna have a lot of fun. Join us and let us know how you're liking it!

That seems really cool. Valve's analysis desk at TI2 was really good so I hope you guys will be able to match it.

its weekday and morning/noon,it happens to all IEM like that.Just wait till evening and the place will be crowded like crazy.

KLH seems to be trying to run a poke team against a go in team. aL have this.
|
aL has the kind of comp that Koreans usually go with in blind pick deciding matches.
|
I was like "man, who runs a tournament on Thanksgiving?"
And then I realized not every country is America. I feel bad.

This just in: Armageddon bringing the 900 ELO metagame to tournaments.

Elohell's jungler is farming between the two top turrets 5 minutes into the game.

I don't get why there is no qualifier for SG...

Ok that Nunu should uninstall.

I haven't seen anything as bad since first levelling up my account.

I have no idea how these guys made it through.. but all of us are amused, so were the KLH guys infront of me. Probably knew the next game would be easy.

Haha good luck analyzing this match, Zenon.

Best part is they still earn 2.5k... for getting last place.

KLH gearing up to push mid and try end the game faster than Elohell. Arm so free~

Well at least they are all trying to break the record of 13.30.

new record, whos the team to beat this timing, stay tuned.....

Vancouver14381 Posts
So what are the chances of aL beating that record?
|
Riot will be adding destructible rocks for the IEM tournament.
|
DanielZklein will be there sanctions for the LoL teams that pulled out in the last second. Because of them i think this IEM is sub-par and not good for healthy esport in Singapore.
You give them all the big names and all of them arnt there.
|
Damn this IEM has a really strong commentators lineup but the team sucks -__-.
|
Okay, this will be a good game.

Wow, fantastic Katarina play from ELOHELL.
|
Actually Elohell vs AL going on now is quite entertaining though. And Hi there Klein!!
|
The Lulu, Ori, Malphite ult combo is pretty sick.
Of course 5-0 Katarina can ruin those plans pretty quickly...
|
God this game is so boring...
|
Finally elo makes a play..al lacking a lot in damage tho...
|
|
That ult was NASTY. Really well played by slooshi!
|
New Zealand4437 Posts
Ouch, ELOHELL get cocky and lose a 5v4 3-0 under an inhib tower.
|
That Orianna doing nothing all game long, play pretty bad, but that one ult is a life saver for AL. EDIT: Wtf just happened, I lag a bit at the baron fight and AL just melt -_-;
|

i dont blame the casters but the management really could have done something about the teams. they just didn't bother to reach out to contact the local teams

Come one, give them some credits, its not their fault because some teams pull out at the last minute. They should try to get a Chinese or Taiwanese teams to sub though. Maybe Saigon Jokers instead of KLH.
|
|
|
Not sure what KLH was thinking with these picks. They need to win fast to make it past the tie-breaker and they get... Karthus & Vayne?
|
Ooops, Elohell is bad. I was expecting them to beat KLH since that what teams like SGA and TPA do in the GPL or even SAJ can beat KLH quite easily. This game has so many misplays but still an ok game to watch though. Vayne carry!!!
|
Owell elohell paid the game with their weirdass team..
|
EH really misplayed their lead in that early-midgame. The issue was not the team comp; they easily could've initiated with malphite and gibbed down Vayne then crushed the fight (remember they had an enormous lead), but they just were sitting back not doing anything, which let KLH stabilize, farm, then eventually pick up kills and throw the game around.
|
New Zealand4437 Posts
Yeah, nobody was really making it through Absolute Zero/Defile to get to Vayne, not to mention the Yorick ult on either Karthus or Vayne. Nicely done by KLH.
|
So EloHell is supposed to be a strong team from EU East right?
|
Well I've heard of them before but I dunno that I'd call them particularly strong.
|

On November 22 2012 17:56 justiceknight wrote: i dont get the tie breaker thing,any1 can explain?
The LoL time coefficient is calculated by adding the match times of all lost maps and subtracting the match times of all won maps of the match(es) in question. A bigger number is considered better (tight losses and easy wins get rewarded).
|
lol so AL and KLH advance?
|
Can someone give me the actual numbers and how much time it was between them?
|
On November 22 2012 18:03 ExoFun wrote: Can someone give me the actual numbers and how much time it was between them?
1. aL NA (36:54 loss) - (29:24 win) = 7:30 time coefficient 2. KLH (29:24 loss) - (31:19 win) = -1:55 time coefficient 3. Elo (31:19 loss) - (36:54 win) = -5:35 time coefficient
So it wasn't really that close.
|
Is this a contest about who can crush their enemies the fastest?
|
that was so embarassing.......
|
i thought we got rid of this time-tiebreaker a year ago.
|
What in the world did ESL do? That was an esports disgrace. Sending in a dota team into a LoL competition, really?

I got the impression they just opened up some spots for local teams and these guys are the ones that signed up.
It was a bit silly but also interesting to see how big a difference there is between pro teams and amateurs.

Entirely fine for me. And that teamfight was well-played, TF almost baited Trist to her death but Lulu ult + kiting OP.
Trist's lategame is all "fuck you guys" now. Just as I type that, Orianna totally whiffs an ults, Cho hits a rupture, and Tristana goes boom.

ITA is trying so hard to throw this game. They may have succeeded.
|
Pretty unimpressive game here between BKT and ITA... Very sloppy.
|
This is pretty much the Southpark episode "No More Baseball." Nobody wants to win.

Three inhibs down and BKT's going back up? Yeah, that's game I'd think, especially with TF willing to backdoor if ITA tries to push out.
|

7/0/2 Twisted Fate on BKT is taking MYM apart.
Edit: Oh god, that was awful from BKT - score goes from 10-2 to 10-7 with baron on MYM.

Nope. Vayne and Katarina. DENIED.

I'm so bored from the low quality of these games. At least earlier it was entertaining in being a back and forth game of throwing, but now this is just tiring.

Considering how this game went, I think TF going lich was a mistake. Could've had dcap instead because they need to poke down before a fight to have a chance.
Quadra for vayne before the game ends in favor of MYM

Quadra for vayne before the game ends in favor of MYM I don't think it made a difference. They were sufficiently ahead and there was no reason for that to change based on Lich vs Deathcap.
The problem is they forced a fight and then misplayed it tremendously which cost them 5-0 and put MYM back in the game. Ezreal walked through MYM's entire team trying to get another shot on a low HP tank, which a.) wasted a ton of time where he wasn't shooting better targets and b.) put himself in a terrible position, which resulted in his death..
Since MYM had two hypercarries and both picked up many kills (let me take this opportunity to reiterate how terrible of a concept kill/assist CD resets are), that immediately led to another crushing teamfight and from there the game was virtually unwinnable.
|

It's hard to get excited for some of the more unknown teams unless the games themselves can get people pumped. The semifinals probably won't be all that exciting but the finals might have some potential if it's aL.NA vs MYM.

I like AL.NA, but I just know they aren't super competitive in the NA scene. I would love for them to be able to win this event though the competition is somewhat lack luster. I like the individual players, I just don't see them being top tier.

If you watch the TSM invitationals, they put up a good/great showing almost every week. So, they are decently top tier. The normal issues apply though, and they are quite inconsistent at times. Don't know about their scrimming schedules, but them picking up this AL sponsor will probably motivate them quite a bit.

Yeah, I've seen them do fairly well in those. I guess my biggest point of comparison at the moment is them getting rolled in the IPL 5 Wildcard matches. They are probably around the level of MP and TD, although this is just kind of gut feelings, I would have to check out their history a bit more.

KLH is doing surprisingly well against MYM. MYM is abusing Maokai jungle and zerkers Irelia but KLH's bot is really doing work.

Oh wow, this is going to be on German tv? Goodluck Zenon.

Zekent and Yoda not flexible enough to handle this MYM aggression. Otherwise, it's still a very decent close game as MYM's team fighting seems to be lacking here. I'd give this to AL if they survive long enough for late game.
For example, Zekent keeps pushing down past river despite his lack of mobility/wards in any lane. Yoda keeps attempting to engage when they(he) is too weak to do so.

Ocelot seems to be a good after-game caster/commentator. He makes a few jokes, and is able to take jokes that people throw at him. Decent chemistry with everyone there.

Congrats to MYM.
AL.NA just so inconsistent. So much difference between games 1,3 vs game 2. Game 3 was at least better than game 1, but they seem to not be able to handle that early game aggression well enough. Still good showing, and winning 8500$ can't be too bad

One of you are MVP, oh wait sorry! I'm clapping at home just to get some added effect.

mym is SO good at level 1, they always take 2 buffs and then apply pressure to all 3 lanes so its so hard to come back while they put so much pressure.
in game 3 we had vayne down to 20 %, made her chug 3 healht pots while we had like 2 (?) left.. but then skarner comes round corner with double buff, 80% hp, and level 3 while our jungle is level 2 (maybe just hit 3), with 1 buff, and like 30% hp.
then we get back to lane, again recover a bit cause creeps stacked up, then again started to win trades hard then BAM tf hit 6 mid and immediately teleported bot. etc etc.
so much pressure, either you have to let vayne free farm while you recover cause of the level 1 or get ganked to hell. they play really high risk high reward especially starting at level 1.
