There playoff performance was great. Just that when you look at they spring season as a whole they were very inconsistent.

The only position they're weak on is mid but there aren't that many strong NA mids who can really abuse Jintae consistently and Jintae started looking decent in some of the play-off games. I don't think pr0lly or ecco are really good enough to warrant benching Jintae and after their finish I'm sure they're willing to give him the benefit of the doubt but if GGU could get a really strong mid laner they'd probably be better than TSM.

Shiphtur is a really strong mid laner, BTW.

Hopefully they at least pay Jintae nicely as a sub, kid improved a lot and played well enough to get them second. That said Shiphtur is probably better in terms of raw skill and they have a lot of time to practice with him and work on coordination before the Summer Split starts.

To be fair, Gambit/Fnatic/TSM/GGU are the top 2 finishes for each league. I personally wouldn't lump them there just yet, but they did go through Dig/Curse/TSM in the playoffs and win 2 games from each of them. They might have been able to take a 3rd of 4 off Dig/Curse, and then if they can beat on the "lesser" teams it is possible.

the sad part is I know I will still be (secretly) cheering for NA despite knowing that

People know Korea and China are close. People know Gambit can compete, so you can infer Fnatic can as well. But with NA there hasn't been a team that's had good results and is consistent in a while. There is no watermark for the NA scene. No "you need to be this tall for the international level" bar. NA is just out there, on an island, with no context of how close or far away it is. =[ Doesn't help that the by far best NA team currently has never taken a single game from an asian team and lost like 12 or 13. Still rooting for NA & EU at allstars though!

To be fair, GGU finished Spring Season in 6th place then managed to win two series vs. a slumping dignitas and a slumping Curse. They may have officially finished in 2nd place thanks to winning the games that counted the most, but to me they're still a 6th-place caliber team.
