We are happy to announce the Battle Dex TL SC2 Open #3, an online open Starcraft 2 tournament hosted on the BNET NA Server.
Registration opens: Tuesday, Nov 09 2:00am GMT (GMT+00:00)*
Tournament begins: Saturday, Nov 13 5:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00)
Prizes - 1st - $100; 2nd - $50; 3rd/4th - $25
As with the previous TL SC2 Opens, we will be opening registration early for professional players. Please only register if you plan on attending. If you feel you qualify for early registration, PM me to see if you qualify. As a general rule, if you are not prominently listed in the SC2 International TLPD, you will not qualify for early registration.
* Note: The previous TL SC2 Opens had 1200+ total registrations (including waitlist) for only 500 slots, but only ~460 actually checked-in. That means if you register, even for just the waitlist, and show up for check-in, you have a very good chance of making it into the tournament.
Battle Dex is an indie, turn-based strategy game by Bandera Games. To succeed at Battle Dex you must collect and artfully combine your cards while commanding an arsenal of units against multiple online enemies. The integrated tournament system measures and rewards tactical ability while single-player and co-operative campaigns allow you to hone your skills. The game features a unique simultaneous turn-based mechanic that masterfully blends timing, strategy, and action.
Fingers tired from all your Starcraft practice? Take a break and play Battle Dex for a unique turn-based strategy gaming experience. Battle Dex gameplay video.
Battle Dex officially launches November 7th, 2010. TL members can get early access by using affiliate code recon8 when registering or by clicking this link: RECON 8.

Its unbelievable how its November, and the biggest community tournament and the biggest NA prize pool tournament of that weekend (whos knows, maybe it won't be =P ) conflict. Where are all the tournament directors and prize money coming from? You'd think the honeymoon phase might be close to ending, but it seems like each week theres only more incredible stuff coming up than the week before.

that's going to suck.
lol the battledex site is dead... I guess it must be the TL effect
What is the tournament structure? Single elimination? Is there seeding? If you could add some of this info or add it at a later date it would be appreciated. Thank you for putting this together <3 TL
I think TL crashed another sponsor's website again. The link doesn't work for me, anyone else? Haha. Anyhow, hopefully I'll be able to hop in on this TL Open. Couldn't make the last one =(

Its obviously on bnet. No one, except for people who live in the area, would come to a 200$ LAN event.
Hi there! My name is Pierre and I'm with Bandera Games (creators of Battle Dex). The site should be up and running any minute. It might be a bit sluggish but we'll also have that fixed shortly.
In the meantime, if you have any questions feel free to ask. I'll be checking this forum periodically.
Remember that you must use the recon8 affiliate code in order to register as we are currently doing a soft launch closed to the general public. Look forward to seeing some of you in the game!
Nice tournament! I will try battle dex out, i really enjoy turn based strategy games, but the site is down now, so i think i will have to wait Anyways, good luck for every one in the tournament and hope to see another TL open for EU soon (I think NA is ahead in TL opens right now )

Just tried it out, it's very much like Advance Wars, but the turn system is a bit different and the card system is more complex than the ability system that Advance Wars used.

Also, Good luck to the competitors!
Advance Wars was by the same company that made Fire Emblem right? Because I loved FE. I'll sign up for this battledex thing (even though the cards in the picture looked kind of like pokemon cards). Having tons of members sign up might make sponsors more willing to sponsor TL events so that's always a plus too.
Argh pretty sure it runs through the upcoming Canada Cup day 1 bleh and i wanted to participate in this one not getting hammered and passing out through it -_-.
I tried Battle Dex, it's a cool game, and I like the option to play tournaments both free to play, and for money, reminds me of Magic Online, however, as far as I can tell, I can't get additional cards without winning a tournament or spending $. I would much much much rather have a 15$ charge for this game, then have access to all cards.. I'm not going to spend $ on cards and tournaments.. =/ for right now this game isn't for me, maybe in the future if the $ model changes
Thanks for checking out the game BraveGhost! Although it may not be apparent, you can actually earn cards by playing free co-operative missions and entering free tournaments.
We are hosting a free 1v1 Constructed Deck tournament tomorrow that delivers 3 packs (24 cards), and 2 packs (16 cards) to 1st and 2nd place respectively.
We are working on making these features more obvious to those guests who would like to enjoy Battle Dex without spending $. Hope this helps!

So that means... everybody below top200 gets a shot at winning money and all who lose can still watch the top players' replays from that other cup? I have to practice!
Any word on how viable it is to compete in Battle dex without shelling out tons of money for yu-gi-oh cards? I'd be interested if there aren't benefits to those who pay besides cards. Like if they get some stat bonus.

Pretty quick for the size.
They are extremely efficient and well run. All rounds begin as soon as both players complete their previous rounds up until the ro32 or ro16 then you must wait for a ref.

It's an open tournament, anyone of any skill level can compete. Unless you are horrendously bad then I wouldn't hesitate to sign up.

Is it completed within that one day though? Or does it take a few days/weeks to complete? Thanks!

From what I've been able to figure out you can get decks/coins without actually investing real money, but you have to win the "free tournament" game so you're gonna have to be good enough to win without the benefits or just mass games until you can afford said benefits.
The premium membership certainly seems like it'll give an unfair advantage, but that's the nature of cash shop games.
I know Team Liquid you have probably have had a ton of tournaments hosted on this website but still "Thank you!" This is going to be an exciting experience.

I totally agree. I want to be able to participate on tours on other servers aswell, but most possibly Activision sees this as a way to make a little more money than playing "just" 1 copy per player... =(
I'm going to get roflstomped! Hahahaha. I represent all the bronze players out there! Oh well, at least I wasn't the only one sitting on the register page mashing the refresh button
Are you allowed to race pick in this tournament? i.e. - I would prefer to play Terran against Protoss and Terran, but would like to be able to play Protoss against Zerg. Would that be a problem?
On November 10 2010 07:26 ZaidTheTaher wrote: Im sad because im in the waiting list but since there is the ROOT's tournament i might have a chance to be in this
We've yet to turn anyone away, even people on the waiting list due to the number of people who don't check-in. In fact based on the numbers so far, you can still register right now for the waiting list and stand a good chance of getting in, especially since the order in which you sign up doesn't matter - for the wait list, it's done in order of who checks in.
On November 11 2010 00:02 Shaelis wrote: I really would like to know if I check in via IRC or the Check in page on the Tournament info?
Check-in is done via the check in page. The IRC can be used for finding opponents or contacting admins, but you should be able to check in and find your opponents using just the tournament website software.

I believe race picking is allowed, this will be clarified once the rules go up.

When you report the game results on the tournament website, you will be asked to supply a replay there. All the uploading is handled for you, you just need to browse to the replay file on your computer and click submit.
On November 12 2010 17:12 Monkies wrote: When are the brackets going up?
Brackets will be up a few minutes before the tournament starts. We can't make brackets until everyone has finished checking in or we'll end up with a lot of no-shows since a lot of people who sign up don't actually turn up to play.
This tourney is poorly timed because of GSL2 Finals. If I stay up and watch it I'd only get like 2 hours of sleep. If I wait til morning to watch the vods, its not enough time to do so before the tourney starts. I'm gonna bet someone from europe or some timezone inbetween will win this.

.
admin stated a few posts before yours that you would do that when reporting the result... i'd imagine it would be available once the tournament actually begins
I'm trying to get in contact with an admin for the Battle Dex TL open today, long story short me and my friend are at my place and we're both registered. I was just wondering if it's okay if we played one after another because we only have 1 computer, so we can't play simotaneously. Long story, we were at the GSL Finals Toronto event, and then our car got blocked by construction, so we were sitting around downtown dying for two hours and just got home, but we still want to participate with fighting spirit and no sleep.
wtf i came at 8:57 and im forfeited and for the tourney that just now started. I normally put on my calendar when there is a check in time too and I didn't know about this so I missed it. so bs I was here before 9pst , so lame.
well.. i missed the check in, thought the check in was when it actually started... but really.. does it even mention the check in time??? all i see is the start time... way to make that clear team liquid!!! you would think they would put the check in time in the info tab...
