[LP] To Edit is to Care

Liquipedia Review #19 Helloooooooooooooooo everyone! Long time no see! Have you missed us? Most certainly not! Liquipedia's viewer numbers are spiking as ever. StarCraft is doing great, ESPORTS is doing great, Teamliquid is doing great and Liquipedia, guess what, is also doing great. Here's why:
by Pholon Liquipedia was really happy to have been a big part of TeamLiquid's MLG Anaheim portal, being featured in big banners. The results have been incredible. We've received a lot of messages from people all around the globe checking Liquipedia for updates, using their computers or phones, and, though I'm not one to boast, these figures speak for themselves (thx to R1CH).
Baseline average visits per day: 50k - Friday: 80k - Saturday: 142k - Sunday: 194k
Hits: - /starcraft2/2011_MLG_Pro_Circuit/Anaheim 275,287 - /starcraft2/2011_MLG_Pro_Circuit/Anaheim/ChampionshipBracket 262,761 - /starcraft2/2011_MLG_Pro_Circuit/Anaheim/Pools 139,951 - /starcraft2/2011_MLG_Pro_Circuit/Anaheim/Open_Bracket 98,622
Pretty amazing - Liquipedia wants to be the primary source of StarCraft related knowledge and on the discipline of keeping track of tournaments we're doing extremely well. As we heard:
Here's something: people in the back stage at MLG had Liquipedia open for the results. So yeah - MLG Visitor
The main point, though, is the following: The MLG Anaheim articles could not have been such a success if they had not been updated accurately and often. We have our contributors to thank for that. To quote my colleague Noam:
[22:13] <Noam> so far i havent been able to make a single score edit count [22:13] <Noam> every time i go in and click edit i get the "someone else has.." [22:13] <Noam> these guys are too good
Today we want to hail these people. It's been good to see some regulars as well as new names appear among the editors and we could name people like JBright, Wren, 2par, Deyster, Aoe2fan and Dezzimal but, to be honest, the list goes on and on and on. There is however one person in particular we'd like to acknowledge: Blahz0r, whose contributions by now run into the hundreds. Last but not least, a huge shoutout to everyone on the TeamLiquid Twitter account, who have provided us with superfast result updates throughout the events.
What also went down was Assembly Summer. There, our contributors also helped destitute viewers to find the most accurate results in record time. We salute everyone who helped out and present the List of Contributors: + Show Spoiler [MLG Anaheim and Assembly Summer] +2par A Wet Shamwow ADd3z Aksfjh Ariadnesthread Bakram Bear4188 Bibsybob Blahz0r Blueblister Bournebreezy Butterbrain Carny Cheebah Chenz Clafou Clues Coc0x Coincoin Danglars DeathSquire36 Deyster Dezzimal DivinO Draconicfire Dukeb9 Dydtaylor EllyHaTran Ergho Fionn Flowsthead Flyspeck Garpetun Gorlin GreenAndOrangeTurtle Hoonose Iainlefish JBright JadaFire Kareltje Koorb Liveon Llamanamedosama Lobo2me Lord nibbler Mairu Majloon Mike-965 Miwi MtJoy Naseroo Neroin Otolia PartyBiscuit Perpetration Pirat6662001 Preylol Progman Qurid RPR Tempest Rafaliusz RenardDesMers RoninShogun S32 Sanakan Sky2042 Slyderturtle Sn7.buddy Snador Snapcall Stocc Strammefar Tamerlane TheBB Tnud Totally spy VenomBRA Wren Xtfftc Xyl ZaSzRH Zephirdd Zim23
Strategy Woes
By salle When StarCraft 2 and Liquipedia 2 started, one might have drawn the conclusion that the strategy section of LP2 would be as great as its predecessor's. But sadly, that's not the case... yet. Due to strategies evolving so fast in the new game because of balancing patches, a lot of strategy articles were outdated before they were even completed. So there were fewer and fewer contributions to the strategy section.
This doesn't mean it's terrible or that no one uses it. In fact in the last 30 days, the three races' main strategy pages have had between 200k and 230k page views each. If you Google "Protoss/Terran/Zerg Strategies," these pages are typically the number one result. So there are a lot of people looking up strategies on LP2 but the amount of contributions to the strategy section as a whole isn't up to the challenge.
This cannot be. Please read the full call to arms at the strat forum.
The Best Results Page of All Time ... of All Time! We covered it a while ago: Our guys at the Recent Tournaments front are doing a tremendeous job. So pay them a visit once in a while and catch up with the surge of ESPORTS that is washing over us right now.
Yours truly,
- Liquipedia staff
+ Show Spoiler +Your reward for reading through this is the awesome Jinro picture our staff member GHOSTCLAW took at the latest MLG. Be sure to cheer for Jinro on Wednesday!

HUUUUGE thanks to everyone who edited for MLG. It was amazing to think that results were being updated as they were still on the leave game screen!
Yaya made it on this edit list too Its amazing how fast people edit those pages on recent results draft pages, and always right too, thanks liquipedia
Well done to liquipedia staff, very well done
Those pages were so useful, much more efficient than the official MLG brackets.

I visit Liquipedia many times a week. The best source of SC2 information on the web.
Any thoughts of putting ads on Liquipedia? I want you guys to start making money off of something so awesome. A simple banner ad like TL.net puts at the top wouldn't be too intrusive. I'd turn my adblock off for you guys.
You know, for ESPORTS.
Liquipedia is the best thing ever, needs more contributors I say! Yes, that means you!
thank you, liquidpedia contributors and props to TL for putting them into the spotlight.
Awesome coverage at MLG. Liquidpedia is awesome

Every page on Liquipedia has a top banner spot where we display google ads. It's really easy to accidentally block though.
And we're not in it for the money, as long as we can pay for the server space, upkeep and eventually hardware upgrades, that's enough.

All through MLG I always had a tab open with the Liquipedia MLG bracket, great job everyone
Thanks to everyone involved with Liquipedia
I have this problem all the time. I want to make some edits but people are too damn fast. Liquipedia is too sick (in a good way).

Liquipedia really is awesome and the job you guys do as staff is admirable =D second only to the TLPD staff :p
Seriously though - awesome work and some amazing numbers!
I love liquipedia's event coverage and am glad to see that more focus is being directed to the stratagy section
Liquipedia is sick! I try to edit sometimes when im at work and have nothing better to do for the moment, but the sad (or good rather) thing is that i almost never find anything to correct. So i usually just find myself fixing simple spelling errors ^^
Keep up the good work everyone! It really is appreciated!
Here's something: people in the back stage at MLG had Liquipedia open for the results. So yeah
I'm impressed!
But I have to agree with the quoted person, I too use LP2 for tournament results. The page loads much faster, it's more clear and organized than any other site with SC2 results out there. GJ to the people managing it, makes the life of a humble SC2 fan that much more simpler.
Had my first experience updating results during assembly, will definitely keep on doing for the future tournaments. A little help from everyone is what makes this site so useful and awesome
Definitely phenomenal to see instant updates to the groups during Assembly. Thanks for keeping up such a good resource!
I've been meaning to add some stuff for a while now. My problem is I keep getting distracted by playing starcraft, its a vicious cycle.
Thanks to all the contributors It was really useful for Anaheim, such a great job deserves a lot of thanks.
I'm not very wiki savvy but I will certainly give it a go! Great work during the MLG, I was using Liquipedia the whole time.
Liquipedia is my primary source of everything related to SC2! HUGE shoutout to the guys managing it, you guys are amazing!
Huge probs to the people running and editing liquipedia, I have it open during any multi day event.
Tell me how much I need to get to a gold coin, and I will do so.
Pretty fun seeing people beat me to edits on the Open Tournament (which I was covering for iS). Wasn't so fun watching my phone die from posting to twitter, facebook, and liquipedia every hour as old matches ended and new matches began. But the great thing about the pool of community supporters was there was always somebody posting updated results throughout the day so I could check upcoming matches for my clan as the phone charged.
Great job LiquiPedia supporters!
Didn´t contribute myself (yet) but really appreciate the work you all do, thanks! Keep it up. I follow often fragster and readmore as they have almost everytime people at the events but Liquipedia is always open!
Terrific work everyone :3
Just want to thank TL and everyone who helps keep Liquipedia up to date. It's surprisingly hard sometimes to get results, brackets, and groups from the various tournament websites out there and Liquipedia always delivers. Keep up the good work.
Liquipedia is amazing... They were faster than the TL / MLG live results
The scores for MLG Anaheim were updated super fast. I wanted to do a few but someone always got there first.
I tried to update results during MLG Anaheim but I don't think I ever managed to be first on a result ^^ Congratulations to the staff for putting up this system and to every one who contributed ♥ Starcraft
Edit: O I didn't notice my name was in the contributor list! Congrats to me too then ^^
I was trying to edit results from Anaheim, since i've added most of the pros, but alas, you guys edit it too quickly :D
That and I'm awful @ whatever sort of markup language wiki uses.

Yeah, these guys are super fast. I practically had to open up the edit page and type in the results as I watch the gg on stream just to snipe one or two edits in on Sunday.
Always great to see that the community is alive and well xD
Great job on the MLG coverage. As for the strategy section I think many people would find it intimidating to edit it. Along with the release of HotS sometime next year I don't see the section becoming stable for a long time. Hopefully more people become aware of the resource and we can get a Strategy section as comprehensive and quickly updated as the MLG page.
Yes it's nice to hit F5 and see that the brackets updated
Liquipedia is amazing, I used it a lot during the event. Keep up the good work everyone who updated it in a timely fashion.
MLG would have been impossible to follow and keep up with without the Team Liquid coverage. Every previous MLG I have been confused as utter hell with the format and results. This time, I actually knew what the hell was going on, thanks to TL.
I use liquidpedia for tournament results, Its much easier than searching through LR threads to see the paths from round 1 to the finals
So, my question is as follows, for those of us who are bronze league scrubs, we obviously don't have the knowledge to update the strategy section, what can we do to help?
I don't mind if its scut work like "go through each article and check that the links work", but I'd like to do *something* to help

In the case of strategy pages I guess you could copy builds that are used by pro players currently that have a thread with detailed build order and strategy guides that compromises a basic strategy page. If you like to watch replays you can add those to the applicable strategy pages. Or take some images to help illustrate a certain point in a strategy. Make pages adhere to the guidelines, and the strategy template.
Or if it was more in general, the way I started out was I hit the random page button until I found a page where I thought something was wrong, or could be improved upon and then I fixed that. I did this for a week until I had a much clearer idea of what I could do and liked doing and what pages I thought were missing. Checking out the stub pages can also give you an idea of where you can add content perhaps more easily.

This right here is why TL is such a great source for SC community. They don't believe in ringing us for money, but instead enlightening knowledge for the masses!
Well, I love liquipedia, and so to show my appreciation, I added two of my favorite PvP builds into the mix! Hope you guys find them allowable, and I feel so good now!
Here's to liquipedia! YEAH!
(All my builds for PvZ and PvT were already there)
Inspiring article! It's amazing to see how quickly the community rallies around events like MLG. I know there are a lot of times the GSL results, or other smaller tournaments can be lagging a bit behind though. I also wonder, since there is so much difficulty establishing the strategy section, would it be possible to somehow link the strategy section here on Team Liquid to the strat section on Liquipedia? Screening out the less complete articles of course.

you guys are doing such an amazing work, thank you!!
and especial thanks for the cute Jinro pic <3 <3
I've tried to use Liquipedia for strats before but it is, sadly, out of date. Glad to see this won't be the case any longer. I'm sure the hits will go up as a result as I don't use it because I know it's out of date after checking a few times
The editors are amazing. I was looking at MLG Anaheim Liquipedia stuff seconds after a match and the numbers were already updated to reflect the results!
I absolutely loved the TL mlg portal and spent more time on that than I did on any of MLG's website. It inspired me to try and help out by contributing some things of my own.
Seriously, some amazing work you guys have got going on over there.
Liquipedia is the easiest, cleanest, neatest place to find out MLG results, without drowning in "OMG ___ SO GOOD" posts of LR threads or stumbling around the internet looking for a page on the MLG website.
Thank you, LP! (Also, Adblock is not installed here, for ESPORTS)

Cheers to all contributor!
always love liquipedia for event coverage, clearer, and more accurate than the official sites like GSL/ mLG !
It's amazing how on the ball you guys are! Excellent work.
I <3 liquipedia!
Definitely love Liquipedia. I'll try to contribute where I can in the future. :D
I've personally never contributed to it myself, but I use it ALL the time. I really loved the MLG portal. Made things SUPER easy to find and watch. It was so good I think I'll use it at the next event I attend in person lol. I never knew what was going on when I was at Columbus (could easily have been my fault, was my first major lan) and the portal would have been so useful. Of course I've used Liquipedia for other uses as well (as I'm sure we all have). Keep up the great work!
I've been using Liquipedia much more lately and I agree with the general consensus that its tournament coverage is like no other. Keep up the good work
I learned beta builds from liquipedia 2. I have never given back. Because of this latest outreach I have finally been guilted into contributing.
(Thank you for giving me the nudge. What you guys do is fantastic)
Thanks for the amount of dedication you have put into it. Without Liquidpedia, life would be so much more harder.
Agreed. You single handedly kept me out of the wood leagues after launch. It felt like I was the only person who hadn't played Beta and here I was getting beaten stupid in custom matches. But I had one friend that had my back. Liquipedia taught me how to make void rays. Millions of them. With flux vanes.
Thank you Liquipedia. I've grown so much since then but you still have my back every day.
I love Liquipedia.
In fact, between Liquipedia, the LR threads, and all of Teamliquid in general, the site has become absolutely essential to my tournament watching experience.
<3 Liquidpedia. Thank you for rocking it so hard.
I don't even bother looking for brackets on official tournament websites because LP is easier to find, more aesthetically pleasing, and updates faster. Thanks to all the users who are so diligent in keeping it updated.
Thank you guys for your hard work! When there's a tournament ongoing, Liquipedia is the 1st place I check for updates, because I know it's going to be clean, simple, and smart. Cheers!
Awesome DUDeS work is being done.

Sexy reward. Coverage for MLG was much appreciated.
I'm pretty sure during that whole weekend I had Liquipedia open on at least one computer 24/7 :D
I LOVE Liquipedia, I get all my results there in a clear, clean, and crisp layout, don't know what I'll do without it
Awww, I though this was going to be about mindful fourm-posting habits, like some public service announcement. That would sure be warranted.
hi i used your brackets instead of the live thread, was updated so quick, no did they win was that game 2? just straight into the liquipedia page and found the results, will use you for most tournaments now!!!
Very good idea, and so awesome to see such wonderful initiative. <3
I'll use my first post on TL to thank all contributors for the awesome Liquipedia updates. Getting a good overview on tournament results wouldn't be possible without it.
Great job guys ♥

Wooooooo, I'm e-famous now!

My friend was asking me today if there was a GTSL R&S thread, and I told him that Liquipedia has replaced R&S threads. It's the only place I go to to check results these days. Congrats on how great it's become!
great work, keep it up!
my 2cent on how to improve it even further: if an event in the calendar has a liquipedia page, put a link to it underneath the link to the stream. or if that would clutter up the calendar too much, just use a small liquidpedia icon as link and put it in front/after the link to the calendar entry.
<3 Liquipedia. Bringing order and structure into the competitive sc2 world. Without it the tournament scene of sc2 would be so unclear
Missed a game? Check Liquipedia (again) Don't know who will play who? Check Liquipedia (again) Bored? Check Liquipedia (again again again)
When I was in vacation where there was a 0,00001 mbit connection and I wanted to follow the MLG. Checked Liquipedia ALOT.....
Damn you guys are handsome nerd ballers
Woot, 29 edits in Assembly :3
I absolutely, always, every time use liquipedia for tournament updates and brackets - fantastic job guys <3

It's pretty tough to update LP during MLG when it gets updated so quick, not that that is a bad thing

Seriously though - awesome work and some amazing numbers! LP is so awesome that most of the staff was unable to do anything because of all the random people helping out because of how awesome LP is. I'm not sure where you're getting this whole "TLPD BATAR DAN LP" thing from.
I also suffer from that problem Noam... I think people enter the score when the game has clearly been won but there is no gg yet
Liquidpedia is easily the best part of Team Liquid, i use it every day <3
The coverage was impressive, great job everyone who pitched in, and thank you for being so awesome.
I love Liquipedia. I really like how clean the results are shown and how one can easily know how things are going and who advanced and who was eliminated.
I hope to do this updating more often for tournaments I watch.
Stay awesome Liquipedia!
For an "old" Liquipedia editor like myself, it makes me happy to see that the editing hasn't slowed down or stopped! Keep up all the good work, everyone!
I tried to make the effort to edit stuff of Liquipedia myself but people are just too dam fast lol. There are some really nuts nerds out there.Keep it up:D
I use it constantly during certain tournaments, especially if there are multiple games going on like mlg for example. Thank you all the editors for your dedication to what I consider THE goto site for all things SC.
Good job guys. Very helpful!

this was sick ty to everyone

A contribution is a contribution no matter how big or small. Even the effort put in to want to edit something is a step towards contributing. Most if not everyone will be hesitant on their first few edits, I know I was. My advice to overcoming this fear is do a few small edits and build up your confidence, experience, and knowledge of LP. Again any contribution helps, no matter how big or small.
Thanks to all the people who have worked on LP making it what it is today. Especially to those on IRC/talk pages who have helped me out. I got a mention woot woot

My concern with contributing to liquipedia is that I'm not really sure what I can do that would be useful. Maybe I could add trivia about progamers I know fairly well, but is that really important?
Also, I would maybe think about adding BO's but I'm in plat and I don't really feel qualified to be putting up information that while maybe accurate, I don't necessarily understand correctly. If there was some way that I could do the framwork and build up the meat of articles, but know that there would definitely be someone that would check, correct, and verify what I did and do so in a relatively timely manner so I don't forget, or liquipedia doesn't end up with a crappy guide that hasn't been confirmed, then I would feel much more comfortable doing that.

ad 2: As zatic said in the other thread, porting to Liquipedia what already exists would be a great help to start with. If we had all the good guides on these forums (and I think those stick out sufficiently) over there, we would be a step further already. They need some adaptation to wiki style and layout, but that doesn't require you to be very creative.
