[Fantasy] PL Playoffs

Fantasy Proleague Playoffs
Check Who You Picked For Week 1
1. How do I play? You will pick the winners for each individual game in each Best-of-7 Playoff Match, and also pick the winning team. You will then rank the picks on a scale of 1-8, with "1" being the most confident and "8" being the least confident.
For example, if you felt your pick of Hwaseung > WeMade is stronger than HiyA < Shine[kaL], but not as strong as Jaedong > Rock, your "Confidence Ranking" would look like this:
1. Jaedong > Rock 2. Hwaseung > WeMade 3. HiyA < Shine[kaL]
2. How does scoring work? You will receive one point per confidence rank you correctly predict. If you get a pick wrong, all confidence ranks after that do not count towards your score. In the above example, the maximum points you could score is 6, if you get all three correct.
But if you get Jaedong > Rock incorrect, it doesn't matter if you get the other two correct, you score 0. So make sure to be very careful when you make your "most confident" picks. Every correct pick allows you the opportunity for more correct picks.
The maximum number of points per Bo7 match you can score is 36, if you get all eight picks (all 7 games and the winning team) correct. There are four Bo7s for the first week.
Example: + Show Spoiler [Show Example] +For instance, if this was your rank:
Confidence 1: 2+2=4 CORRECT Confidence 2: 1+1=2 CORRECT Confidence 3: 3+3=6 CORRECT Confidence 4: 4+4=8 CORRECT Confidence 5: 2+2=99 INCORRECT
Confidence 6: 1+1=2 Confidence 7: 1+1=2 Confidence 8: 1+1=2
Since your Confidence 5 pick was incorrect, your Confidence 6-8 picks don't give you points, regardless of whether you got them right. You'd only receive points for the correct answers 1-4, for a total of 10 points (1+2+3+4).
3. What if all matches aren't played? If a match isn't played it's just removed from the list and all your picks are moved up a slot (if you had a high confidence ranking for the match that wasn't played. Otherwise, everyone would rank in the same way to maximize points in case of 4-0.
4. Will this go on for the entire playoffs? Yes, we will put up the entries as soon as new lineups are made.
This week, there are four Bo7 matches (32 total picks) you can make and rank. You will rank each Bo7 from 1-8. Do this for each of the four matches (STX vs Samsung x2, CJ vs Hite x2)
5. Is there a prize? Other than glory, you will receive some sort of icon.

What if a game doesn't happen? does it still void all remaining games?

SUPER SHUTTLE????

I love the idea but not the execution. Imputing all that information was confusing as well as disorienting. I strongly disagree that we should have to rank how sure we are about a result. Yes, it makes sense in theory, but the reality is that if you we're to ask me right now what I picked as my 6th most confident matchup for Cj entus v. Hite sparky's I wouldn't be able to tell you.
Picking the outcomes of the matches as well as who beats who would be a solid competition in itself. There is no need to get into trivial confidence measurements because they only confuse the participants of the survey as well as allow luck to become more a factor. Trust me, sometimes less is more.
Also, imagine if you will the calamity that would occur later in the tournament if jaedong lost to somebody like hyuk. It would completely throw off almost everyone's bets.

Stoked TL is doing something for playoffs. I am awful at Fantasy though, best ever was top 100 and I'm still proud of that. The fucking anti-team system has just raped me introduction.

It's not that difficult to remember what order you picked in. Write it down.

The confidence ranking basically determines how many points you get, I wouldn't call that "trivial." Also, without confidence ranks, it's a lot easier to pick and there's less differentiation between teams.
Also, imagine if you will the calamity that would occur later in the tournament if jaedong lost to somebody like hyuk. It would completely throw off almost everyone's bets. I don't see how this is a problem.

Wait, so failing to predict upsets will prevent us from doing well in Fantasy PL Playoffs?
Outrage.
|
I'm gosu at these kinds of stuff
*goes down the matchlist by consecutive numbers*
|
Nevermind, I just realized that in a traditional scoring system, there'd be a huge incentive to rank the earlier matches higher because the later matches might not be played. I think this scoring works well.
|
What about matches that aren't played? If we pick the fifth match as our #1 and the match ends 4-0 what happens?
|
Also, what about the super-ace match if the match score becomes 1-1?
|
On July 15 2009 13:34 Crunchums wrote: Also, what about the super-ace match if the match score becomes 1-1? Will be posted later if necessary I believe.
Matches that don't happen will have their numbers forfeited and all other actual matches will be moved up accordingly, from what it says... in the comments -_-

wow, the way this is set up is so amazingly ingenious
|
oh man this system is so cool I can't wait. Who came up with it? Hotbid?

I didn't read their post closely, but it seemed like SC2GG had a similar contest called Lucky Ladders for the PL.

NOT!

so i finished like 1220 or something? ouch. ill try to fail harder at the new round, but it wont be easy. i was in the top 100 durring the first 2 weeks
the new round is interesting, a little more interactive. hopefully it will be a lot less like watching a ship sink.
|
Where can i see the line-ups ?

This is a really cool feature and although I'm usually bad at these, it should be fun.

you can navigate to them through Liquibet - find the match - click the comments icon (it's to the left of team logos)
also, you see the lineups in the fantasy pl playoffs, when you click the match (duh..)
|
I gave both ace matches an 8 :p
|
So let me get this straight: Confidence level 1 = 1 point Confidence level 8 = 8 points?
So the less confident we are in a match, the more points we get?
|
I don't think even this could rescue my failing fantasy team. Why did I decide to create that "no-trading" rule!?
Nice idea though. (:

So the less confident we are in a match, the more points we get? Correct, but in order to even have a chance to get the 8 points from your Confidence Level 8 match, you'd have to get Confidence #1-7 correct. Once you get one of your "stronger" Confidence ranks wrong, anything higher scores you 0 points. Same goes for all of them.

i hate this type of fantasy game

All confidence ranks after that - you mean increasing values of them, or just rest of the choices?
I don't get this, say these are my picks:
I get go.go's match right, but fail at Horang's.Would i still recive points for Effort's match, in case of getting it right?( becouse Horang's had higher confidence rank - I was less confident).
If it is like i understood, doesn't that basically mean the best choice for confidences ranks should be dropping from 8 to 1?Least chance to fail and not recieve points for next one, if you get it right.

If it is like i understood, doesn't that basically mean the best choice for confidences ranks should be dropping from 8 to 1?Least chance to fail and not recieve points for next one, if you get it right. I mean confidence ranks increasing in value, not the physical location of them on the page. I'll clarify that in the OP. In your example, if you get go.go's match and Effort's match right, you'd receive 9 points (5 for go.go's, 4 for effort's). Horang's match doesn't impact those two. However, if you were to get go.go or Effort's match wrong, then you'd receive no points for Horang's (and no points for #6-7, whatever those are), regardless of whether you get Horang's right or not.
For instance, if this was your rank:

Thank god for editing, I just realized that in my post-work haze I inputted all of my picks in the exact wrong order.

This is a really cool idea of scoring, thanks as always for hosting such fun fantasy leagues.

I did that the first time as well, lol. I'm not really clear on how it works (not that I read the explanation offered in this thread), but whatever, it's not like I need to know scoring criteria to make picks
|
This will be fun, good luck to everyone

Why are there two links per matchup?
Edit: 2 days, duh, haha.

I can't wait for PL Playoff hopefully I get to see it live (VOD's just don't feel the same). I feel confident about my picks...but first I have to sign up.

[spoiler = spoiler of todays matches] sweet I guess predicting Samsung to win wasn't so stupid after all
but I still failed so badly: For example I predicted everything correctly in the CJ vs Hite match except for two matches, so yeah I got 6/8 right - how many points do I get?
Zero, because the two games I got wrong (Effort+ Leta) were on confidence lvl 1 and 2 xD
oh boy [/spoiler]

all hail to the master of nagging

This format is so hard, I just tried doing my teams. Took some real brainpower, but I doubt I'll do well.
|
If the first game of the set is my #8 confidence and I picked wrong, my #1-7 confidences are still viable, right?
|
Yeah, if it helps just pretend the games (the ones that actually get played) go in order of your own ranking.
|
How/where can we check what picks we made?

nice, looks like the prediction of khan winning wasnt so stupid
I still failed hard though - for example on CJ vs Hite I got 6/8 picks right! How many points do I get? Zero, cause the two I got wrong (Effort+Leta) were on confidence lvl 1 and 2 xD
