PeepMode is a melee spectator system that builds on features of the popular 1v1 Obs and iCJug maps. Players compete in 1v1, 2v2, and FFA matches (KotH style) while everyone else watches, bets, discusses, etc.
FEAUTRES * 14 players * 1v1, 2v2, FFA * King of the Hill (KotH) style match selection (crowns designate winners) * Auto Cam follows the action for you * Global rating system (carries across all PeepMode maps) * Graphical team selection * Custom name panel by HanzoSC2 * Declare your league (optional) * Zoom camera out to desired level * Cinematic observer mode (removes UI elements) * Standad Blizzard Observer UI * Cinematic chat, silent chat, other chat options * Betting system * Live stats with helpful coloring (toggle simple/advanced stats) * Detailed event log with filtering (including match history) * Sortable leaderboard * Unlockable avatars * Voting and personal options * Detailed Help system * Store to buy aesthetic upgrades ("Bling")
im curious how you've done the global ranking as far as i know all you do is update it with players playing together. meaning you will only have ranking of players you've played with and who they've played with and so forth.

or did you work out a better way?
This is global *rating*, not global ranking. I had the same question about iCJug "global ranking" then realized it's actually not quite as advertised. Blizzard won't allow access to global player information, so until then the best I can do is global ratings but only *local* rankings for the exact reason you point out.
perhaps being able to, when starting the custom game, choose between modes or vote, might be the best option.
Something really special you have here though. Would love to see some proper production group use this map in a tourny for obsing, and added camera views. Would be awesome

I've never been a fan of 1 person out of 14 deciding something for the entire group. A design goal was to have "democratic" options. I could make an alternate version where an administrator chose options, but that would be more for tourneys I think. Once you play a game you'll probably see that match modes happen naturally based on who wants to play and on what team(s). I'll keep my mind and ears open about this though.
This map is fucking amazing. It crushes the 1v1 OBS map on the frontpage of NA to oblivion. This map SERIOUSLY needs to be up on the front page.
Can I post a suggestion? You should have only one peepmode map, and have it switch between maps depending on which you select at the beginning. For instance: You start in black space, and the players vote on a map to play on. In between games, you can change which map you play on without having to start a new game. I don't know if you can do this though.

Thanks I'm glad you like it. I am hoping to get this on the front page...I just need to get in touch with the right folks. I'd love for Day9 or Husky to do a review...have not been able to reach them yet.
Great idea about multiple maps (and something I wanted to do from the start), but unfortunately Blizzard limits map terrain sizes such that this is impossible....not likely to change either.
At least there is a cross-map rating system and aesthetic consistency to tie them all together.

I suck at 3d model-making, but if someone wants to whip up a high quality shark with a frickin' laser beam attached to its head, I'll put it in the game

Thanks for this bug report! These issues are now fixed. My apologies to anyone whose games were affected. If anyone notices any other issues, please let me know asap.
FYI There is a Known Bugs list in the Help menu within the game. It includes a few minor issues I have not found a solution for...If anyone knows how to fix any of these, please PM me.
This looks so awesome! The Trailer wants me to play this so badly. The interface is very professional and clean, i love this. The pre-game scene is very nice too. So many awesome features!
I find it annoying playing on KOTH style maps because I rely heavily on the ingame clock for my timings (for example, if I don't have a 3rd base by 15 minutes into the game, thats bad) however, KOTH style maps start games at different points in time, thus I find it very annoying to see "oh my, its 1 hour, 3 minutes and 42 seconds into the game, am I on time doing X? I DON'T KNOW!"
is there a way to restart the ingame timer by triggers? if there is it would be highly appreciated.
Hehe...I guess you didn't try PeepMode before posting. I have addressed this issue as a basic feature. The Game Clock (total game time) appears in the Leaderboard and the Match Clock appears in the normal spot next to the Minimap (both in Cinematic Mode and normal mode). The Match Clock reflects actual match time and I'm sure will be to your liking.
I am suggesting that people use chat channel "peepmode"...I put that in the title screen of each map. Hopefully people will start to hang out there to organize games.
Some minor bugs: - Theres no sound when zoomed out. - If the scroll wheel is used when zoomed out, the buttons swap and "zoom out" now zooms in. - Theres some weird formatting when multiple observers type in chat.
- I will look into amplifying the sound for players who are zoomed out, although I am hesitant about this since it changes a fundamental physics property of SC2 (spatial sound) - When you use your mouse wheel, the SC2 engine "snaps" to a pre-defined camera angle. The next time you click a zoom in or zoom out button, PeepMode takes you to _its_ pre-defined camera angle based on zoom level. There are 5 possible zoom levels in PeepMode, so it will just step through those. I hope that makes sense. If you have Auto Cam engaged, scroll wheel doesn't work anyway. - Can you describe in more detail the weird formatting you're seeing in chat? You can email peepmode@gmail.com if that's easier.

MAP UPDATES: - iCCup Deity (by monitor) is now available on NA & EU. SEA shortly - Slag Pits now available on NA & EU. SEA shortly.
forgot to check which five maps were already available on SEA last night - only remember Bel'Shir Beach, XNC and Metalopolis. more 2v2 (or 3v3 even?) maps would be nice. how about High Orbit? :D
also, is there a way to follow a specific player's camera from obs?
kadtz: - There currently is no feature to follow a player's camera. I will look into adding this. - I'm glad you mentioned team play...so far this doesn't seem as popular as I was hoping, but I can do 3v3 if there is enough demand in the player community. I added Monlyth Ridge, Gutterhulk, and High Orbit as 2v2 maps.
CURRENT MAP POOL: --- - GSL Bel'Shir Beach (1v1) - iCCup Deity (1v1) - Xel'Naga Caverns (1v1) --- - Shattered Temple (1v1 or 2v2) - Metalopolis (1v1 or 2v2) - Shakuras Plateau (1v1 or 2v2) - Slag Pits (1v2 for 2v2) --- - Gutterhulk (2v2) - Monlyth Ridge (2v2) - High Orbit (2v2)
NA and EU are up to date; SEA will follow shortly.
High Orbit and Monlyth Ridge on SEA seem to be broken, Match mode menu only has '2v2' but Currently: always says '1v1', with no way to change it. Shakuras Plateau appeared to have all the correct options though.
Holiver: Awesome...I received the map and will apply PeepMode to it soon. kadtz: I re-sent the 2v2 maps to my SEA publisher and he is saying that they are working correctly now.
FYI, I recently switched Gutterhulk, Monlyth Ridge, and High Orbit to "2v2 only" due to placement of start locations. Shakuras Plateau is more playable as 2v2 and FFA even though it's suited best for 1v1, so that's why it has so many more Match Mode options. At this point, there are 3 classes of maps: - 1v1 only - best for 1v1 but okay for 2v2/FFA - 2v2 only
some comments/requests after playing with the maps over the past couple of days:
- should probably allow choosing race in the map lobby (for the game interface and sound pack) - friend & foe color option (Alt-F) is disabled, so with some team colors (like cyan on a blueish map) it's really hard to see on the minimap - in-game chat doesn't show when game is paused, hard to tell when to resume safely - any way to enable shared control for team games? - can you provide an option to disable the camera spinning when someone gg's? - betting seems to be buggy - someone bet on me and 'broke even' when i won
kadtz: - That's an interesting idea but you can always go random or switch races once inside the game and switching UI style once game has started is impossible - I'll look into enabling Alt-F for match competitors - Unfortunately nothing I can do about chat not showing when game is paused - Shared control for team games...definitely possible but not sure if that's a good thing? When your teammate dies, you can then control his units - If no one bet against your friend who bet on you, he'd have no one to pull funds from, thus breaking even

the initial UI style is the problem; i have Protoss players complaining about getting the Zerg interface. they'd like to always draw the Protoss UI but there doesn't seem to be a way to guarantee it as of now.
actually, shared control is something that we use a lot team games, especially when laddering 2v2 - the option is normally available right at the start of the match.
Is it intentional that there's no way to change the player you're betting on once you've placed the first bet? Sometimes you see the tide turning against one person and so you'd like to throw some credits on the other, but it seems there's no way to do it in peepmode maps That, and lack of player cam, are my two peeves. Otherwise these maps are brilliant! Thanks for your work!
with all these obs maps there has yet to be one that forces spectators to a specific player-cam. So when you have a clan war, your clanmates can spectate in your point of view without getting to see anything else, hence no cheating.

If I'm not mistaken, maps can be linked together, can't they? Like a chain. of maps that happen in succession.
If you can apply the tiniest bit of logic as to which map chains next based on a vote, couldn't you make the "Win Condition" of the map be a successful (majority) vote to map change?
kadtz: (1) I will look into adding shared control during team play. Would you envision this as the default option (always shared control) or something selectable/votable? (2) I will look into Race UI selection from the lobby
vincom2: I based the betting system on the most popular observer map on NA (1v1 Obs Xel'Naga) and overall I think it works well. It offers a balance of simplicity and decent likelihood that more chips will change hands than if you could switch who you were betting on after initial selection. See Help system in-game for better explanation.
vincom2/W2: I will look into ability to follow player cams
Ryhn: Your map linking suggestion is a good one! I will look into this...that would be a great feature.
- Select UI style by selecting race in the lobby - Select player color in the lobby - Observers can follow player cams (see "Observe Everyone" pulldown during match) - Cooperative unit control is a votable Option - Volume of game sounds stay consistent when camera is zoomed - Enforcement of diagonal start points for 1v1 games on Shattered Temple and Starparty V
I have a group of friends who meet every saturday night for obs games and some 2v2 and whatnot. We've been using the old obs maps and rehosting when we want to switch it up. I just happened across your maps, and just wow. Thank you so much for these! Looks great, I can't wait to test them out with everyone. This is just amazing, you've saved our group a lot of time. You need more attention for these.
thisisSSK: I recommend channel "peepmode" on the loading screens.
NOTE: Patch 1.3.5 temporarily broke the chat interface, but it is now corrected. I have reduced the map pool to Shattered Temple and Shakuras Plateau until I can push the next big update in a few days.
The Store has been added which includes ability to purchase Avatars, Pets, and Turf Markers. Buy items and customize your base with Pet and Marker placement. No effect on game mechanics, ability to turn off by vote.
NEW MAP: Tal'Darim Altar NEW INFO SITE: peepmode.com
Hey there seems to be a big problem with the Peepmode games, at least there is on the one I played, Tal'darim Altar. When a Zerg player starts a regular game their initial hatchery starts with three larva, but in Peepmode, it spawns with no larva and this messes up all regular Zerg openings.
EDIT: Crevasse also appears to have this problem. Bel'Shir Beach, Shakuras Plateau, and Shattered Temple do not.
HollowYoshi: Thanks for letting me know about this...the problem is now fixed on NA and EU (SEA shortly). This is one of those things I always forget to fix when I add a new map...sorry about that...I'll get it right next time!
Hey IcculusLizard thanks for this fantastic map, it is more full featured than some of the other avaliable koth maps.
Our clan has been using this map for a few weeks to host our weekly clan koth. We usually have a "winner" for the night which is whoever has been able to have the longest winstreak. Usually we just keep track of this on paper or a spreadsheet, but I was wondering...
Would it be possible to add a stat panel that shows everyones wins/loses and win streaks during the game? Sometimes we will play in the game same for several hours and it would be very useful if we could open one of the game tabs and see how many games everyone has won and who has the longest winstreak.
Just wondering - is there any updated version that can display the newer menus in the obs interface [the top of the screen ones]? And/or one that has hotkeys enabled for the obs menus!
Hey we've been observing bugs recently. After about two 1v1 games the map bugs out and every time a game starts it says " game ended due to insufficient length (3:00)"
This will happen repeatedly every time a game starts, we have to remake the map then because we cna't get past the bug, which means we are gonna have to use a different map until this bug is resolved :/.
Also it might be worth it to make the select mode 1v1/2v2/ffa a little more apparent and easy to choose. a lot of people are confused by having to open the options panel and choose in there.
UPDATE: New update published; many minor fixes/improvements. Map pool is limited only to Shattered Temple until further testing can be done. Please report any bugs found during gameplay!
Also: It seems replays will save on a Mac but not on a PC. Anyone on PCs able to save replays of PeepMode?
I really enjoy these maps. I can't wait for you to republish the rest. I just wish more people used them. Perhaps the name is preventing people from understanding what they are if they make it to the popular list.
UPDATE: - Added "Name Panel" during matches (click for Cinematic Mode; disable in Options) - Added buttons to cash/keep your Chips after each match - Aesthetic improvements (fonts, alignments) - Minor bug fixes - Performance improvements - Set all maps as 1v1 by default (instead of "1v1 or 2v2")
MAP POOL RESTORED on NA and EU. SEA should follow shortly.
dUTtrOACh: Thanks for your comment....spread the word!
UPDATE! - Consolidation of UI (utilities buttons are now colorful icons) - Text tags of structure names while being built (turn off in Options) - Other UI enhancements
SEA is out of date. I am hoping to correct shortly.
This map is so incredibly awesome, downright roflstomps the 1v1 Obs Maps. Too bad the map popularity system sucks so much
Would have never found this map if it was not for reddit. Maybe you should consider putting popular search terms like "KotH" or "Obs" in the map names.
Just a headsup, keep up the awesome work.
€dit: played for a few hours today and grinded channels for new people to play and make it popular. There's one thing popping up again and again: For most people playing for the first time it's very confusing how to chose race (after they already picked in pre-game lobby) and that they have to pick an avatar to play. I would maybe take race selection above avatar selection and make it like really big race icons or sth. 1v1 KotH Obs Maps are super simple in that regard, just an "i want to play" checkbox and a race dropdown big and bold in the middle of the screen.
Also the larva bug is still alive, on Peepmode Shakuras (EU) at least. Beach and Shattered seemed to be fine on EU.
Just found this on Reddit too. This is definitely NOT getting the attention it deserves. It blows 1v1 obs out of the water in my eyes. A way better substitute
PeterPwn: Thanks for the feedback and sorry about that pesky larva bug....just fixed it. Also, good suggestion about race selection. The lobby race selection is just for selecting the Game UI style and the race dropdown inside is for actual match race. After you select it the first time, it is saved in your Bank so next time you play it will remain consistent. When you join the game for the first few times, text appears onscreen that says "Choose your race" and points to the dropdown. Also, the rollovers on Teams buttons mentions this too...I thought that would be sufficient but let me look into making this a bit more obvious.
StarDustNA: Darn, I thought I fixed that bug...please send me the replay file so I can troubleshoot.
If anyone finds bugs, please send description of bug and copy of the Replay file to peepmode at gmail
Well i think the UI is not that bad, it's just that 15 seconds are way too short for firsties to figure it out. Maybe a 60 second warmup after load screen that host can "-skip" would do the trick. One question that also often occured was "how do i go obs" where the 15 second were also very frustrating for most of them.
Not trying to be a smartass here, just collecting the raw complaints from peepmode beginners. Hope you don't get me wrong on that end. Just quite a fan of your awesome map that needs the spot it deserves in that shitty custom map system.
PeterPwn: Don't worry - I value thoughtful feedback. I agree about the 15 seconds being fast for first-timers. Ultimately I think noobs will figure it out after the first match, but first impressions are important. I like your suggestion..I'll look into that for next major update.
Thanks and keep the feedback coming!
EDIT: I added [Obs KoTH 1v1] to end of map names for easier searching on battle.net
Other updates: - Added initialization screen - Improved Log display - Added Match History (under Logs) - Added ability to expand/contract Stats - Utilities buttons now stay onscreen in Cinematic Mode - Other aesthetic enhancements to UI
The last couple of nights a few of us have been trying out peepmode and there is a really bad bug where everyone has to play random...which sucks. I love the map, I love the auto cam but that type of bug keeps us playing iCJug. :\
Oh and it was Tal'Darim and Antiga that we encountered the bug on.
On GSL yesterday i saw a reworked version of Belshir Beach with just one entrance to the natural expansion. Will you keep the old version or switch to the new GSL one?
This is the best KOTH formatting out there right now. Wish there were more people wanting to use these in customs. Having played on them over the past week, I'll never use any of the older KOTH type maps. Get more people on these maps and it'll be solid.
PeterPwn: Thanks for letting me know about the Bel'Shir Beach update. I'll contact the map author to see if I can get a copy...I def want to stay current with GSL.
Grohg: Hopefully the system will earn the attention of reddit/r/starcraft or famous caster (Day9? DJ Wheat? Husky?) or pro gamer.
If you enjoy the system, please spread the word, post in message boards, etc. If it eventually hits front page then there should be plenty of players.
When I tried the shakuras plateau version no matter race you picked (I know the race selection drop down menu is below the avatar section) it gave you random as your race.
Been playing on these a good bit, pretty well made. Been playing on the Shattered map, and found a couple bugs. One being that if you type the "<" character at any time, it doesn't execute the new line command. So if you type:
"< test" It comes up as:
"<test <n/>" and then the new message continues right after that line of text.
Also, not so much a bug, but a suggestion, you should make it so that if you play a game and lose, and then cue up to play again, then you don't get chosen. So guy A plays against guy B, guy A wins, guy A, B, and C all cue up and A and B get chosen again. Doesn't seem fair and I think guy C should be in next against Guy A.
As well, it would be really nice if when you obs multiple games in a row, and you turn off the Name Panel, it stays off for the next game. As it is, when the next game starts, Hide Name Panel is checked, but the Name Panel still shows up.
Other than that we are enjoying them, and hopefully the others get ported over to 1.4 soon. Thanks for building these.
I think these maps are absolutely wonderful! The only thing I have a problem with is trying to get new players into these maps. It's really confusing at the start. I think you should have some kind of tutorial demonstration to explain the features of your map to newer players.
Nibbler: I'm pretty sure this bug is fixed in newest release.
OpAndroid: (1) Fixed the Name Panel issue. (2) Good catch on the "<" issue...it gets replaced with "[less_than]" now (3) Interesting player selection suggestion...perhaps there could be a mode where the system selects players based on number of matches played (favoring lower numbers). I prefer to stick to current random selection for non-winners for now.
s15sLiDER: I added an instructional screen that lasts 60 seconds. It shows up if there is any player who has played less than 3 games. It can be skipped if all players click the "OK I'm Ready!" button. I also plan on making a tutorial YouTube video soon.
I just re-published Antiga Shipyard, Shattered Temple, and Tal'Darim Altar with fixes for patch 1.4. Performance improvement in UI interactions should be evident.
Played a game on shattered temple and there was a few bugs we encountered. Firstly when joining a game everyone defaults to random, so even if it says you are another race you are in fact random. Also when you GG at the of a game, the surrender box pops up and if you click yes it does not surrender you from the game, the game just continues.
I really like this mod too, but it´s a shame that so few people play it. I agree that we should make this mod more popular. Right know it just takes forever to find someone, at least here in Germany.
TheHoff: (1) Man, sorry for that "gg" bug...fixed. (2) Lobby Race selection will now determine your initial race selection and also determines UI style. You can then choose in-game race separately if you want (like choose Protoss for UI then Random in-game).
birdkicker: I added a "New Player Timeout" (60 seconds) with simple instructions at the beginning.
BlazingSonic: Why not start a weekly tournament or meetup with some of your friends? Send me feedback and replays!
NEW FEATURE: Upgrade Grid - Shows a grid of icons, one for each research upgrade - Icon tooltips contain explanation and status - Researched items are highlighted in real-time, including Level for armor/attack - Current research items are highlighted in yellow
UPDATE - UI re-arrangement - F8 thru F12 hotkeys open menus - Added "Fair Message Log" in which players cannot read observer chat. Hitting F11 while playing will also bring up standard Message Log (due to restrictions imposed by Blizzard). - Lobby race determines UI style and initial in-game race - Ability to change race during intro tutorial for new players - Added player checkboxes on Chat Log and Match History - Various bug fixes
-==UPDATE==- - Hotkeys (Alt-based) - see Help > Hotkeys in-game - Added 2v2 maps (Boneyard / Monlyth Ridge) - Players can now vote to disable close spawn positions - Restored map pool, including Metalopolis, Xel'Naga Caverns, and Bel'Shir Beach (v2!)
The camera position is off at spawn (starting of a game). I can only see half of the mineral pack down to the bottom of my screen. Other than that, everything works great. New research grid is beautifully done. The APM in real-time stats still buggy though. Thank you for the great work, keep it up!
Revamped Upgrade Panel (monitor player upgrades in real-time)
Added Structure Panel (monitor player builds in real-time)
Numerous enhancements - simplified name panel - prettier Tug of War bars - improved Auto Cam scout tracking - bigger crowns! - various bug fixes...please keep the feedback coming!
UPDATE - Dual Sight added to map pool - New rating system based on Sonas rating - New votable option: Player Select; defaults to King vs Least Played - See http://www.peepmode.com/changelog for full list of changes
Ulumulu: imo, most koth-obs maps seem somewhat..."clunky". I aimed to improve this situation with PeepMode (whether I am succeeding is debatable). I continually monitor player feedback and try to improve things. I published a new version yesterday that should improve performance on Faceoff animations...please try again and let me know if things still seem laggy. The point of Teams is to support cross-map and cross-mode UI consistency and to enhance aesthetics...go into Boneyard and play a 2v2 with some friends and you may see what I mean. I find the list-based approach of other obs maps to be ugly.
creating a custom map like this is a lot of work for sure and deserves respect.
Unfortunately the peepmode version displaced the old simple versions completly... but thats an issue of the battle.net 0.2 custom map system i guess...
Metalopolis still got close-position spawning btw.
In the case of EU "Metalopolis + KOTH", the map was requested by the publisher because the one by Slime was dropping players and a fix was not forthcoming. When HotS comes out, I think we're all hoping for a better custom map experience on battle.net...
This map is brilliant...wish more people knew about it and played it. Hopefully the new custom map system will fix this. That or some other way of getting enough exposure.
I like the idea of having the video tutorial. Whenever I bring up Peepmode while playing 1v1 Obs Metalopolis, one of the most common comments made by people who have at least heard of it or tried it once is that it is very confusing when starting out.
I plan on doing more tutorials soon...hopefully in a week or so.
If anyone has specific suggestions for simplifying the beginner's experience, I'd appreciate a PM or a post. I've sent a PM (and a tl;dr version). I do like picking avatars and hope it stays.
PeepMode Metalopolis has been uploaded to Korean servers. English only. If you're in the Korean region, please let me know if it plays okay...I don't have an account to check it myself.
Love this custom. My only issue is that it tends to lag pretty heavily when there are a lot of units on the map. I've experienced it with about 6 peopple in the game, 1v1 zvp. As soon as the zergling count rose about 50, it started lagging heavily, which made it impossible to do any micro during the engagements.
The most likely culprit for lag is when multiple players zoom their cameras out. Vote to disable it in the Options menu when you notice lag and please let me know if that fixes it.
It really is a shame that 1v1 obs has much more players than this map, Peep mode is infinitely better but being first is the most important factor in securing a market . =/ That being said I always play Peep mode with my friends! Hope it gets more popular.
Nope, not the only one. Strange bug in recent version. Not sure what was causing it, so I just bypassed Blizzard's functions and set the resources explicitly; publish is up now. Let me know if the issue persists.
I have another question: if I play with friends, let's say 5 people, the game tends to lag a lot in big battles. I think this probably has to do with the high graphic's settings in the game. It looks like everything is on high/very high.
I myself play with medium and other custom settings for a smoother performance. Is there anything that can be done about this? It really takes the fun away if it's impossible to micro your marines against banelings for instance.
This kind of custom game literally has no champion right now. 1v1 observer is only dominant because of the simplicity of its UI and a handful of good features; everything else about it sucks. This is your market to own, but your map isn't ready as it is.
Basically, whether or not these maps sink or swim will be due to how effective and simple your User Interface is. It doesn't matter how awesome your idea is; if you have a shitty frustrating UI, people will quit without trying the game and never look back, and your resulting fan base will be a fraction of what it could be. You need to assume your audience is comprised of retarded bronze level players who have no idea what a replay is.
That being said, the UI improvements: - Have whatever race is picked in pre-game menu be that player's default selected race (so that they already start with one picked). This way, if they're too stupid to figure out the UI in time for the first game, they still play their preferred race, and everything's ok. - Make avatar(team) selection a drop down menu, and make Race Selection icons. This will greatly reduce newbie confusion. When they see a Protoss, Zerg, and Terran logo, they'll automatically assume it means they click the appropriate logo to choose their team.
- Link hotkeys to as many observer functions as possible (like Blizzard did for their replay mode). Hide specific option menus for specific views in buttons or drop downs to avoid having too much visual clutter. Right now it's a little noisy and crowded, and many new users aren't going to wanna hold their mouse over each tiny icon and figure out what it all means.
- Overall, you want the core components of what a player needs to play this to be really obvious and right under their nose, while all of the customization and advanced stuff should be sorta hidden away. - Google something along the lines of "Effective UI design".
Hey Contragaming: I've been noticing this myself. In the latest publish I added some diagnostic tools which I can call on from within the game. I plan on using them this week to figure out what is going on with those large battle lags. I'll have an update in a few days. I agree it ruins the game cuz you can't micro.
Hi HyTex - The Lobby selection *does* determine the default race in-game. - Requiring a dropdown menu for Avatar/Team selection would increase clicks to get started. I agree the Avatar/Team selection could be simplified for newbs, but I think for 1v1's, the best simplification would just be an "I want to play" button that selected a random avatar. I've suggested this, but it's been shot down by several players who enjoy the current UI. - Go to Help > Hotkeys in-game...just about every observer function is already hot-keyed. Please let me know if you want something else hot-keyed. - I've been designing user experience and programming for over 10 years professionally (quite successfully). Googling "effective UI design" is not going to trump that experience. In fact, I created PeepMode because of the crappy UI I see in so many obs and other SC2 maps. PeepMode UI is far from perfect, but it's getting more refined these days. - Ultimately, I think this may just be too much for bronze/beginners. It was built with "power users" in mind and I'm not keen on dumbing it down just to get more players. The masses can stick with other 1v1 obs if clicking an icon to select a team is too complicated for them PM me if you have other specific suggestions for UI improvement...thanks.
Well, shows you what I know lol. I like the "I wanna play" button idea though, sucks that others don't. Also, if you aren't going to appeal to the masses (which likely means no front page showings), are you planning on making it somewhat simple to organize a game with other people? Like a channel in game or something?
I used to suggest chat channel "peepmode" but no one uses in-bnet chat rooms afaik. I dunno...I may experiment with a very simplified interface for new players, and then transition them into the existing interface.
I'm sorry to say this, but the lag issues stop me from playing this koth anymore! It's just not fun anymore when you're lagging to a point when the battle begins and is over and in between there's on big blur
Contragaming: Don't worry, I'm on it. Did some tests today and have removed a couple laggy features in dev version. When there are 14 players and some have crappy comps it's gonna be slower than normal no matter what, but I think the next update should improve things considerably. I'll post on here when it's published...probably a couple more days.
Hey - great map. Been playing alot the last few days on EU. But now it bugs everytime i try it. All it shows is all kinds of wierd code, cant chat, cant pick race, cant play.
UPDATE: * Lag should be much better in large matches (removed Unit Death log type) * Added simplified Avatar selection and tutorial screen * Added Personal Option "Advanced Avatar selection" to return to previous functionality * Added ability to kick players http://www.peepmode.com/changelog/
Your overview video is literally the most amazing thing I have ever witnessed in custom games for SC2. Thank you so much for creating this. I can't wait to try it out with my friends for our weekly KoTH!
just watched the into video and i have to say this thing can not be praised enough its soooooooooo goood i especially fancy the cinematic mode with only the minimap and playernames on! i can really see GSL using this if some parts of it get professional level graphics (the invaluable updates tab for instance) the face off at the beginning could be used for introduction of players in casting too such a good tool you deserve millions of $ and recognition and lots of girls =D=D Edit: you need a better name though, and quick =D dont pull a F@&% slasher =D
i am currently in game right now and i have to say, awesome map. So far this is the best 1v1 obs i have seen.
Suggestion: +make a toggle so that if i move my mouse over the name, it doesnt pop out the stat menu. I got this a lot by using mouse to move the screen up top. +sometime there is a peepmode text covering VS button? +add vote option to add neutral depo on ramp? +if i didnt sign up as a player from very beginning, i cant jump on later? +you should add chat channel 'peepmode' for games in the loading screen
I'm amazed that people use the normal koth maps when this is available, looks sick! I guess it's partially because of the battle.net map popularity system Z:
This map has such an amazing observer features i cant event describe by words... I hope tournaments such as MLG or IPL start considering to host their tournaments on this map. I mean the selection screen could be used for players introduction, the observer slot could be sold as E-VIP ticket while caster has access to awesome functions such as zoom in/out and building count.
Really great work here, it's very clear that you spent a lot of time getting it polished and doing your utmost to provide the best observer experience, if every mapmaker had your dedication/ambition the standard for mapmaking would be infinitely higher than it is now. As for feedback and things you could improve, really there's just a few things I noticed that could be improved a bit more to make this the perfect observer map in my opinion, which you can read below. This is more my nitpicking from a design perspective than anything though so take from it what you will, I also write way too much so don't take the length as any indicator of anything .
1. The UI seems a little bit too geared towards more 'technical' people, for instance the blizzard observer tabs (production, income, etc) are not immediately available and feature-wise you go by the philosophy of 'more the merrier'. I personally love this, but I think it may be a bit too intimidating or confusing for some players and perhaps the buttons/options could be simplified/categorized a bit more so as to not be as overwhelming.
2. The highlighted leaders in the advanced resource tab is a bit confusing since each property is a different colour, perhaps you should simply make all non-leading players grey and all leading players white, or all non-leading players white and all-leading players yellow, just a bit more consistency here would be great especially seeing as its probably the most important feature you've added to this map.
3a. I think you could improve avatars a bit in a few ways, firstly I think tier 1 units should be available to all players but every unit in later tiers after that should require unlocking (e.g.: stalker, roach, colossus, siege tank), this would add more meaning to the avatar since you could judge their betting success by how strong of a unit their avatar is.
3b. Secondly I think the 'advanced avatar selection' is actually not a good thing because it takes away from the significance of somebody's avatar, if they can be any unit they want every game then that unit holds no real value towards that player, it's just one of the 20 or so that they could've picked. Instead I think you should give people a set amount of avatar switches, and make future avatar switches cost betting chips, that way they are encouraged to keep their avatar for some time and have it associated with their player, which is largely the point of avatars.
3c. And just to go with 3b you should be able to select your avatar during games, since thats when you'll be thinking about it the most, there isn't much time before a game and if as mentioned you make avatars something with longevity and significance to a player they should have all the time in the world to make the decision.
Thanks for making this and I'll definitely be using this map in the future for KOTH and observer matches .
=== EDIT ===
Just played it in a KOTH, awesome map everyone was really impressed, but there were a few bugs and there are few things I think could be improved. I'll try to be short this time ;p
Bugs - Chat messages are always silent even when you uncheck the box - Building names are always on even when you uncheck the box - In replays building names dont disappear when buildings are built, instead they persist throughout the entire session even after that particular match is over
Design Issues - Chat after the game goes to the very bottom and is a bit disorienting, in my opinion it should always stay in the middle so your eyes know where to look, and because everyone is used to it being in the middle - Second round betting screen a bit obnoxious, can interrupt engagements. I think the window should be much smaller and in the corner so that it doesn't cover the main part of the screen at any point. - Advanced Resource Stats is too small, hard to read at a glance, should be a bit bigger. - When Advanced Resource Stats is on, the Minerals, Gas & Supply should really be at the top and/or bigger than the other stats, since these are the most important and what players are most familiar with. The secondary stats such as income should be a bit smaller relatively speaking. - Blizzard Observer UI should be on by default. Players will always want to use this so it should be on by default, if they can't find the button I can imagine some being frustrated by not having this immediately available. - Ask players at start to assign their league. I found nobody was choosing what league they were in because they were never asked, a simple prompt at the start that they can cancel if they dont want to say would be the best way to do it in my opinion.
Hope that helps, I'll try to let you know if I find anything more .
I've played this map a bit now, a few more bugs/issues I noticed
- Sometimes after a match you cant click an avatar to play so the game has to end prematurely, not sure why this is - You can't check who is in the game with F11, so if people leave you have no way of knowing who is still there unless you try and talk to them. - If you press F11 while playing for a split second you can see all chat before the customized chat box pops up
XenoX: Check out the Leaderboard, which is a better indication of who is in the game (click the crown icon or Alt + L). Blizzard makes it impossible to remove the normal Message Log without serious side effects such as making "Esc" open the Game Menu (which is unacceptable during match play). Like many things in SC2 modding, there's a trade-off for everything. Honest players should ignore/close the Blizzard Message Log and use the built-in (and more functional) Chat Log.
I'm not sure what you mean by game ending prematurely...please email replay to peepmode at gmail...thx!
Really like this map, big improvements over both iccjug and obs.
Some things I've noticed so far:
Had a bug after turning autocam off where the view was just locked on a player's unit and would pan back slowly after I tried to pan away, I was able to get out of it by switching the observe pulldown to a bunch of different options.
Had a game with 4 players, where the avatar selection was grayed out for over a minute between every single game. haven't been able to reproduce this though. :/
Also, Why is the allied colors disabled and replaced with cinematic mode? I would argue that most people play 1v1 with allied colors on so that the opponent is always shown as red instead of trying to see lone purple probes on creep on the minimap.
Hi. There is this one bug that I dont think was intended for the game. On the latest version of your peepmode taldarim, whenever the spectators chat there is a ding noise that is audible for the players themselves. Please fix this and thank you so much for making peepmode! edit: I have not tested other peepmode maps for the bug

Sorry I meant you cant play any more games because nobody can click any avatars to play. But I found that if you get them to go out of the queue and then back in it can get fixed. It's this problem here..

Awesome job on the quick fixes. Looking forward to more games!

There is one, it's at the bottom right of the avatar selection.

I couldn't see it, well in the least it's not easy to see, or I'm blind, one of the two .
Hey, I have a question, on EU on the 2v2 map boneyard, we can't select the same avatars to form teams. If someone selects an avatar, to get into the team, it doesn't register.
we tried seriously everything.... Hope to have a fix or how to soon, because we love the maps for 1vb1
Hey guys...just fixed the bunker unloading issues as well as the 2v2 Boneyard issue. Also, I removed the maps from SEA because they just don't get enough play there and SEA users can connect to NA. It's too time-consuming to publish to SEA every time I do an update.

Why don't you leave the old ones there then and update every few months or so? It's not that hard and its at least better than nothing, SEA scene still has 150,000+ active members.

I beg of you not to remove them, we play on SEA and don't move to NA because that would dwindle our already small population, we do play your maps, I have personally and so has everyone else in the pracbud channel.
Even if you weren't going to update them, we would greatly appreciate you leaving the old maps up for us to use
Well there are some bugs, when the game is paused we can't see chat. Furthermore when people pm us we cannot see their pm. and please don remove this map on SEA
To address some of these bug reports: - When game is paused and can't see chat: trade-off from replacing the chat system, unfortunately no fix possible right now - /w "whispers" not working is another tradeoff with the chat system. You can whisper someone in-game by typing "@1 hello" where 1 is their PlayerID. Rollover player names or press F11 to see these IDs. - Blizzard doesn't expose league info, which is why the map asks the players. Some bluffing will occur.
adrenaLinG: Can you send me a replay of this? peepmode at gmail XenoX: Blizzard doesn't make it possible to fix this without using their chat system, which I'm not
I can confirm the issue that adrenaLinG is talking about.
While playing a tvz someone took control of both our workers and suicided them. I repeatedly tried to move my workers back but I could not control them...
Yeah I just had a game where player 1 could see and control player 2 blue's units, nobody else's though.
Also the autocam keeps getting stuck for me when I try to turn it off, if I turn it off at the wrong time it will keep trying to pull my screen towards the autocam while I try to move it away, very frustrating .
Would it be too much trouble to remove the Reddit trademark from the custom?
I'm a member of an alternative Starcraft community that dislikes Reddit and I feel that we are not the only ones, having the logo wards off other interested parties who also share a dislike for Reddit.
Redditors have already gained a liking to the map so removing the logo politely should be understandable as a trade for more outside attention.
BatesC So far, redditors have been very kind to me and I've identified with them for the most part. I also include the TeamLiquid logo in the name panel at the top as well as a PeepMode logo. Which community do you represent? I'd be happy to include your logo as well if you can show the positive support that Reddit and TL have shown me. The loading screen logo is only on Metalopolis and won't be permanent. I just happen to be promoting the maps on reddit right now, so I'd like to leave it up for now. I def don't want to offend anyone...
UPDATE! Several bugs that people have been reporting recently regarding observers controling units should now be fixed. If you encounter any bugs please email replay to peepmode at gmail. Thx!
Xenox: The player cam uses Blizz's "Follow Player" function for certain events. When this function is used, the camera seems to be locked until it finally gets to the unit it wants to follow...I have not found a work-around for this and alternative ways of panning to moving units produce worse side effects.

Thanks for the reponse!
Having my community represented on your map could only lead to negative responses so don't feel pressured into adding another one. I'm personally not offended as much as I feel pressured that its a reddit-only secret club map.
I no longer feel this way though knowing the logo is only temporary, thanks for paying attention and gl with the maps future (its already midway through the 2nd page)
I really think the 15 second delay of opening screen is unnecessary, just have something like a popout tab that you can close that explains the same thing open from the beginning.
Lemure: You might be right. Note that this occurs only if any player in the group has joined less than 2 games. I don't see ppl leaving during the timeout, so it means it's not that off-putting to people. I'll leave it for now but maybe will disable it later on.

I'm wondering if it is possible for those who purchased those Special Avatars', ie. infested marine, queen, medivac, viking, interceptor, or HT, to set it so that they default as one of the Avatars they purchased?
Also, have you considered changing it so that each players' real 1v1 league rank is shown in the Leaderboard (as opposed to allowing users to pick what league they're in?).
Thanks
PS: Great maps you created here, glad to see it getting some exposure now. Now I don't have to go to page 3 or 4 to find the map
Is there anyway you can add a personal option to disable or change the F8 avatar menu? I use F8 as a screen location hotkey and so it conflicts with the avatar menu.
I tried Peepmode yesterday with a couple of friends and it rocks, thanks for developing it. I especially love the Auto Cam and have a suggestion to make it even better.
Could you implement that I can still manually select a view on the minimap and the camera stays there until I release the mouse button upon which the Auto Cam takes over again?
This map is amazing but blizzards stupid custom map system makes it really really hard to get a game on a map that isnt metal =/ thanks for making this great map though.
ThomasR: If you to to Options > Personal Options and check "Advanced Avatar selection", the Special Avatars window should come up by default instead of the "I Want to Play" window. Unfortunately, Blizz does not expose league data to modders...that's why I have to ask players and yeah they lie gXxshock: That's a good thought; one that I had too. Unfortunately Blizzard doesn't expose minimap clicks as events, so I can't pick up on them leveller: Yeah I wish Blizz allowed map linking on bnet cuz then you could jump from map to map with the same group, but that's not supported currently. Maybe we can get another map popular (Cloud Kingdom?) after Metalopolis has been in the limelight for a while. LazyScout: Yeah I could add Disable F8 as an option...I'll put it on the list.
LcrdSnccp: I was thinking this same thing, especially if it was actually hovering around page 2 to keep some of the "masses" out...sometimes these metalopolis games are lagfests....
I'm planning on making a "tips n tricks" video after some more development and could use that as a basis to promote another map. Probably a week away or so away.
I notice a lot of people lag when game loads up due to them alt tabbing and what not. I suppose a way to fix that would be to allow people to realize that if they change their sc2 display mode to "Windowed (Fullscreen)" instead of "Fullscreen" they wouldn't cause the game to lag when they alt tab. Do you think you can add that into the 15 second loading screen so that there may be fewer laggers? Laggers eventually get vote-kicked but that kind of sucks for people who aren't aware of the "Windowed (Fullscreen)" display mode.
Do you have any idea what's cauding order delays when I play? The game seems to wait a good 2 or 3 seconds before a command is actually recognized. Only happens when I played Peepmode and it was very frustrating to deal with (I was the only one in game experiencing it, but regular maps/ladder I have no issues and game/map size). it was Peepmode Bel'shir beach, don't know if any known bugs are there or not.
ThomasR: Are you sure that it really makes a difference if they're alt-tabbed vs windowed?
Troxle: Hmm, Bel'Shir is a bit behind but I'm not aware of any bug that would affect the lag of only one player...that seems to happen to everyone at once when someone is lagging, not just one player. If it happens regularly to you, please let me know...and send a replay.
Yesterday you got 10 new followers. Spent all night playing theese maps with some friends. Had a blast!
The only thing that people complained about was the fact that when you chose to see the match from a specific players pov, unscouted buildings are still seen - so you can´t really see what information the player really has (sry if mentioned earlier in thread)
Keep up the good work and we will continue to play!
Is it intentional that a capitalized "GG" doesn't count as a surrender? Just observed a game and the loser typed in GG while the winner typed in gg afterwards...and the winner was given the loss since the loser's previous GG didn't count as one.
13th Marine: You must be mistaken. Typing "gg" or "GG" brings up a confirmation dialog, it doesn't actually surrender. If you click the dialog, then you surrender. So if someone clicked "Yes I surrender", he deserved it
yFot: Thanks for playing! Unfortunately, Blizz doesn't expose fog of war memory for structures...see Help (F12) > Known Bugs (in-game) to see listing of current issues (this is one of them).
Empror_Earth: Bnet does not supply a way of having global rankings and website approaches are clunky at best (they rely on external software or manual upload and are therefore not current). I am currently investigating possibilites for a "Peep Ladder"...Blizz doesn't make such a thing easy, if even possible.
On January 26 2012 13:49 ThomasR wrote: Yea, people with slower comps seem to lag when they alt tab when they're in Fullscreen mode (less lag with Windowed (Fullscreen) it seems)
I can also back this, computer speed doesn't really seem to matter period though. Tabbing out always throws the latency screen up.
Also, did you remove the assorted personal bling and such? I can't seem to access it anymore, I miss my infested terran! :<
leveller: Just tested and although the smiley is a bit dimmer compared to Ultra settings, it works just fine on Low graphics settings. Are you sure you're setting it up correctly from Player Bling window?
Hey IcculusLizard, I was wondering if theres any chance you could add the new blizzard maps to the PeepMode map pool, Arid Plateau & Entombed Valley, would be great to get some practice on them . I also think maybe you could add some of the new cool maps in here like TPW's Sacred or Concrete Dreams, and GSL maps like Daybreak and the new Metropolis by Crux, would be a good way to give new maps exposure and let people play on the maps the pro's use .
Oh and I'm still sometimes having all my avatars greyed out when I want to click to play and there's still plenty of time left to decide who's playing. Also when advanced avatar selection is turned on I think you should keep the "want to play" button seperate to the avatar selection buttons to keep things consistent, and I also have had trouble cancelling my decision to play when I had advanced avatar selection on because of this.
Thanks again for the map! I always use it for my KOTHs :D.
XenoX101: Thanks for your comments. I will check out the Avatar greyed-out and inability to cancel issues...I am thinking of overhauling the Avatars interface and adding more avatars, actually. You can cancel your declaration to play by clicking the circle with the line through it from either of the Avatars windows (normal or advanced). Doesn't work last 3 seconds of countdown, though.
I was thinking of updating the map pool...MLG Metalopolis no longer has gold, so I was thinking of making that change, plus adding some maps as you suggest. I like to keep the map pool to around 10, so that means making some choices. Also, I need to request the map files from the creators, and that doesn't always pan out...if you know where I can get my hands on copies of all the maps you mentioned, please let me know.
IcculusLizard, thanks so much for making this map. My clan and I use these maps for our practices and it's very nice. Keep updating and making new maps, thanks <3
neobowman: Sure, you can be VIP! ...what do you mean exactly?
Iatan: Okay, I guess enough people have requested this that I add it back in. Would you be okay with a ten second timeout for each player so max spam rate would be 1 per 10 seconds per player?
Freeze: Thanks for playing and for spreading the word!
Just had a bug where someone left I think around when your avatar is rotating around the circle (not 100% sure on when he left but I think this was when) and his avatar remained there despite him leaving, and then when he was picked to play since nobody else wanted to play he spawned with none of his units so it was 1v0, very strange. Then when we voted to draw his avatar remained since he didnt lose.
People today were trying to end a match to get a draw because they bet on the loser who hadn't gg'd yet. I think to fix this you should make it so that ending the match prematurely ends up counting as a loss for your chips, since if it was something more serious like lag issues or stalemate or something they wouldn't care about losing a few chips, the only instance they'd care is if they're doing it purely to save their chips.
Oh and I'll send you the replay later today, sorry didn't realise you responded, should PM me next time and I'll send asap .
Could just one big map be made that has like 3 or 4 copies of the other maps like metalopolis and cloud kingdom inside of it, and you can just choose which one to play on? Would solve the problem of only being able to get 1 peepmode map on the popular list.
Is there any interest in big FFA or maybe 2v2v2v2 maps where the losers turn into observers? I used to do that a lot in WCIII (which had it as a vanilla custom game setting).
PeepMode is the greatest new custom game mode thing I have seen in a long time. We use it a lot for CSL practices — it's far and away better than any of the other "1v1 Obs" equivalents.
I've got to agree with the guy above me in that if there's some way to have multiple maps that one could switch between, that would be a welcome improvement! Probably pretty damn hard to figure that out, though
One of my original design goals was to have "all maps in one" but it's not technically possible currently. Blizz needs to allow map linking on bnet and/or increase max terrain size to enable that. Hopefully someday...
I originally wanted to support large games (2v2v2v2 or 3v3 for example), but now I think that might just be information overload when it comes to most obs features. I'd recommend standard Bnet match for > 4 players.
XenoX: good call about the chips in draw votes. I'll implement that for next publish (traveling currently so might be a couple weeks).
Averik: I plan on updating the map pool soon; I'll take a look at Entombed Valley.
I may be incorrect here, but the system seems to always choose the lowest possible player in terms of games played. If it does, could this be instead changed to more of a weighted chance? In your average public game a player who plays first and wins two or more games is better off leaving and joining the next game. While it is fair to players with zero games to have a higher chance the system seems punishing to the first winner. If you want I could try and work out an "all maps in one" type deal
Whoever is marketing random maps as PeepMode metalopolis... please stop. It's very aggravating when you want to play on metal and you get shak or some random other map.
I'm the "idiot" in this case. Most people actually find change of map refreshing. On EU, it is now Tal'Darim for several days. On NA, I'm mixing things up every few hours. Don't worry, it'll be back to boring old Metalopolis in a few hours on NA. EU will be back to Metalopolis in a few days.
Could we simply just have maps be what they are? I know you want to draw popularity to your new maps which you've worked very hard on (I really do love your maps btw), but arbitarily foisting auxiliary maps upon loyal followers is one easy way to alienate your core user base.
It'd be like going to a McDonald's, asking for a Big Mac, and they giving you a McRib because they want to promote "variety". Market me your "McRib" during the countdown sequence if you wish whilst we're bored staring at a # anyways and wondering who's going to play instead of denying me my Big Mac. I want to get fat you know. Fat and lazy.
One interesting bit. I watched PeepMode Metal version drop from 5th in popularity to second to last on the first page in the space of 3 hours as ppl couldn't play their preferred map.
Thx for feedback. I was curious what the response would be, and while I must say that I found the response to be overwhelmingly positive, the intense voices of those who were put off by this basically sours the whole thing, so I won't be changing things up on NA anymore. On EU, it's a bit of a different situation where my account isn't tied to the popular slot..that's a diff publisher. He requests diff maps and I honor those requests and will continue to do so.
This actually wasn't an attempt to draw attention to any new work...most of these maps have been available for months. It was simply an attempt to "mix things up", "keep things interesting", etc since bnet's popularity system is poorly designed, to put it lightly. It was also a valuable testing situation, and I found the map pool to perform perfectly
Again, I get what you're saying and I won't switch things up on NA anymore...I'll try to get a "Map Rotation" map popular and just post the schedule ahead of time.
Let me also say: I spent 1,000 hours of my time in 2011 developing this system and I reserve the right to mix things up and have some fun from time to time
Yeah the map rotation was cool The extendt to which the community has to work 'around' battle.net to play interesting maps is getting silly though. We just need a way to browse open lobbies!
I was really glad to see Cloud Kingdom and really enjoyed my games on it. Just wanted to say thank you for switching it up on NA, it's very hard to get people to play other maps besides Metal with PeepMode. Metal all day every day gets very boring.

Problem is, too many baddies complained about not being able to play on metalopolis 24/7 and the "popularity" of the map was dropping......
I've setup "1v1 Obs - Map of the Day" on NA which is currently set to PeepMode Antiga. I will start rotating the maps daily and will post a schedule at www.peepmode.com in a week or so....I'm in the process of moving but when I get settled I'll focus on a web campaign to get that map popular. I think this is the best solution given all the limitations and player preferences. I plan on allowing some form of web-based voting to set map rotation schedules.
Also: I'll be giving the logo, loading screens, and name panel a face lift due to contributions from some talented graphic designers

Awesome stuff, I'll see if I can figure out a fun way to promote it to help out.
Is there a way to ignore people in this map like when u hit f11 in ladder and can click their voice box?
When there are trolls in chat yelling about OP this and OP that constantly it makes me want to rip my eyes out (or quit the game) if I can't ignore them
I wish Blizzard exposed all those audio chat options to modders, but unfortunately they don't. Can't you click on the mute buttons in upper-right when someone is yapping?
Or do you mean text chat? You can turn off obs chat from Personal Options (Ctrl + F9).
I have an interesting idea. What if you limit the default player limit to 8 instead of 16? Less lag for most games. The games will rotate faster too so the maps should all go up in popularity.
XenoX101: Yeah, I can't pick up on whispers, but you can send another player a private message in-game by typing "@[PlayerNum] Hello"...for example "@1 Hello!". You can get player numbers by rolling over players in the Leaderboard or Name Panel, or by opening the Chat Log (F11). See Help (F12) > Chat for more info.
Emperor_Earth: This has been suggested but I'm hesitant since I've been in plenty of 14 player games that don't lag at all. I admit on average there is a lot of lag during first faceoff when one or two machines are slow...
Hey thanks for the great improvements to the map icculus!
every time i open the map i am impressed with how you have overhauled clunky parts of the interface and made it better .
I would second that I would LOVE to have the two new maps in peepmode as I do use peepmode as a way to practice maps with friends.
You could also depreciate support for maybe your XNC map and another one since they are no longer in the map pool. So you could stop updating them if that increases your workload.
Thanks again for the awesome map! I'm at peepmode elo 658 and 200+ matches played :D.
Have you ever thought about finding a way to put multiple maps inside a peepmode and have people vote on which one they want to play? Or would that make the map too big?
EDIT: Sorry, missed page 12 where people talked about this.
Also, thanks for making a Cloud Kingdom one - really excited to do obs on that map. If you get a chance to add Korhal Compound as well that'd be sweet. I understand it probably takes lots of time, though!

irony, lol.
Yes, ironic, because apparently you can't just, you know, NOT watch my stream, or even mute it.
If I were forcing my ramblings upon others there'd be some irony here.
I could be mistaken, but you can't check your opponent's race after the game starts the normal way right? (diplomacy screen) Too lazy to triple check, but I'm pretty sure you can't.
It was a little lame (not really but kinda) yesterday.. I was pwning people left and right (with various openers, but particularly 8pool vs the protoss and zerg), and got a little too confident with each match and I didn't really pay attention to who I was fighting next... so I just started the next game, I didn't really check his race, but that didn't matter because I was just gonna hatch first no matter what (which is fine on neutral depot metalopolis)... but the dude was like begging me to do my 8pool, and well 8pool sucks vs terran so I asked him his race... and he told me protoss, so I believed him and didn't mind helping some newb practice defending it, and I canceled my 9th drone at the last second. Yeah, he was actually terran, trollolol. Someone knocked him out the next game, then I knocked that person out, was going to get revenge but it put me against someone else and he left before revenge, lol D:

On February 21 2012 18:12 ThePlayer33 wrote: question, why is it not possible for players to vote for map after each round? or have 'random' option that randomises the map?
Because the "map" that you load will be too big/laggy to upload/play. Probably.
honestly I would be totally down for a different map. Metals nice and all but it gets boring. Switching it to CK or Korhal Compound would be neat as those maps are very new for a lot of people to play on even if we have seen them in tournaments.

I agree, I`m sick of metalopolis and don`t like it as a map either. Korhal would be cool, I love that map.

PeepMode exists on a lot of maps. Icculus, or anyone except Blizzard itself for that matter, can't do anything about the popularity system making playing them without supplying your own group of players impossible.
I wanted to post in this thread just to say that the Blizzard UI miming of the PeepMode maps is amazing. I think if you modularized it off from the rest of the map (which you might have done already) and published it as a library or mod for other maps it would be a gift from the gods.
On February 21 2012 18:12 ThePlayer33 wrote: question, why is it not possible for players to vote for map after each round? or have 'random' option that randomises the map?
There's a map boundary limit. Even if you used the maximum size possible, you couldn't fit two Blizzard maps on the same PeepMode map. You can do a lot with triggers, but you can't break map size limits and you can't alter the Terrain.
The game runs slower and slower (frames per second). this happened to a friend of mine. i didn't notice it cause i play with all settings to the lowest.
And when you watch the replay, it freezes for about one second every 10 seconds, every time. So the replays get ruined.
I'm currently working on "1v1 Obs - Map of the Day" where you'll be able to vote on maps on the website and I'll rotate them daily. I'll be promoting this in less than two weeks...I'm sick of Metalopolis too!
I'll be making some other optimizations soon, so hopefully any lag or slowness will be mitigated. TBH, it's fine on my (fast) machine. I'll also be updating the map pool soon, removing gold and adding maps. Lots of work to do this weekend while watching Winter Arena
Sated: I want to leave league in, since when it's not there, ppl just ask "what's ur league?" (ala Slime's map). The social element of bluffing will always be there, but if you're with a known group of folks and/or in a practice league, it's very useful. PeepMode is intended for multiple uses, not just the front-page players (who usually don't know each other and are therefore more likely to troll). It would be great if Blizz just exposed that player info to modders so no one could lie...
I love this map The only problem I have is, that it's not possible to only see they view of player x after you watched view of player y. Not a big deal though.

Hang out in the TangStarcraft or Diamond+ Practice chat channels and you'll find people who want to play on the other Peepmode maps.
Is there any reason for the insane amount of lag that happens in games of this?? It seems like 4 people drop/get kicked each game before it stops. I guess it could just be bad internet/computers but seems strange that they would play the game at all if ti was that bad. Doesn't seem to be random either as I play peepmode all the time and have never lagged out ever.

I always attribute it to people having subpar machines/internet connections. I've never lagged out of one but it seems like if host waits for the game to fill at least one person is going to drop or lag is going to be intolerable and the lagger doesn't trigger the timeout window so we all just leave.
I've only once seen lag when the map was launched with 7-9 people. After 10 it seems like there's always at least one lagger. Maybe it's something with the map design.
Math: I think it *is* a big deal and really wish Blizzard would expose fog of war structure memory to modders so I could fix that. I'm glad someone else cares
JPoPP: Everyone runs at the lowest common denominators' machines on bnet so you just need to play with folks who have good comps. I don't want to nerf the code (nor optimize for the sake of it) for older comps. It would take too much time.
battyone: I've been in many games with 14 players and 0 lag. There just happens to be folks with bad machines or bad connections in the larger games you've joined I think.
Sated: The rating system in PeepMode replicates the Sonas rating system used in Chess. Please google that for more information but basically if you play someone who's close to your own rating, you gain max and they lose max (like 5.0), but if you're far apart, it diminishes (till 300 apart or so and then you don't gain/lose anything). So if you think about it, two people who win/lose against each other would just trade those points back and forth and not get anywhere. If one let the other win it would take 60 games (3 mins minimum each) and around 300 you'd stop gaining/losing. I don't think it's easy to exploit the Sonas system.
I'm hard at work on updates...some good stuff coming folks!

Yeah I figured as much, that as the number of players increases the probability of a Fisher Price My First Computer goes up, I tend to launch with 8-10 but i've been in lagless full ones.
Excited to see what you have in the pipe, awesome mod!
* New name panel by HanzoSC2 * New maps: Entombed Valley, Korhal Compound, Daybreak * New avatars: Probe, Phoenix See www.peepmode.com/changelog for full details
I will be launching "1v1 Obs - Map of the Day" along with web-based voting system this week.
While allowing pets that have been killed by observers to respawn is great, some observers abuse that and repeatedly kill the pets that respawn in the base and do it all throughout the early game. Although hilarious, I found that it can be quite the distraction. Hope you can look into that!

The new overlay and the quick panel are both AWESOME!
ThomasR: Haha I was thinking folks might do that. Not sure if I can change the click-to-kill functionality but I prefer the current situation over your pet being killed for entire match. Anyway I'll look into this.
Map is good. recurring problem (and feel free to call me a moron if its been fixed, haven't been on in a couple days) is that a full 14 player lobby has awful lag every single time. not sure if it is a bnet .2 thing or what.
again, sorry if it was on a previous page and i missed it.

My bet would be to remove the Critter - EXPLODE behavior, haha. It's set to apply the Suicide effect if a player clicks on the unit 30 times consecutively within .5 sec of each click.
JcGuiao: You can see player stats in a couple of ways: (1) by opening the Leaderboard (Alt + L) and rolling your cursor over the names or (2) You can go into Options > Names and make sure "Show Tooltips" is checked. This will allow you to roll over the names in the Name Panel at the top of the screen to get stats as well.
I setup the system to be flexible so you can check on how it works by clicking on the little "i" icons at http://www.peepmode.com/maps. It's currently setup to not allow map repitition.
In a nutshell: Let's say a map was #1 wayyy above the others. The most it could be featured would be every 3 days.
Has anyone else gotten the problem where the "Cancel" button disappears when "Advanced Avatar selection" is selected (and you've played a game)? I have to switch it back to basic avatar selection if I decide to sit out the round.
Maybe it could be possible to ad a "max 3 games in a row" option, because sometimes there are master players that go like 8-9-10 games without losing, making circulation sooo slow. Other than that, great work dude :D
I could add that feature, but some players might feel the opposite way, and also I don't think I've ever seen a game of PeepMode go 8 rounds, lol. Usually they last 2 to 4 and then everyone quits and starts fresh anyway. I'd just recommend going to a new lobby if you don't like the situation in the current game.
Hey icculus, is there a way to view the global ratings outside of the game? Could you add the current ladder to your peepmode website? I hate the blizzard ladder for the inability to really see where you are. It'd be nice if you could for this one! :D
Yeah man I was thinking the same thing. I didn't personally write the encryption library I use for securing the Banks and in order for a web-based solution to work, I'd need to implement a version of that library that runs on Linux. I have contacted the author of this library and hopefully I'll be able to work something out with him. Each player would be required to upload his "PeepMode.SC2Bank" file in order to update the central registry, though.
Another option is an in-game "viral" ladder, but that seems like a much less attractive option to me, so I'm going to try to avoid it.
I have been putting a lot of time into this project lately and people in my life have been telling me I need to take a break, and I think they're right. So this is something I will look into a few weeks down the line after taking some time off. I will of course still be rotating maps, fixing bugs, and answering questions, etc

Ye it only happens when I join the peepmode games. SC2 becomes unresponsive (I can only logout and view profiles) and I can't load any webpages or do anything with my net. It can take 5+ minutes for my internet to actually work again. It happens about 80% of the time when I join the lobby.
Hey just curious, wasn't there a Peepmode Belshir Beach? I seem to remember playing the map a few times but for some reason it's gone from the custom game list. I think it'd be great if it could be added to the map rotation, thanks!
rei: Blizzard doesn't currently support centralized player stats. I'm looking into alternatives like uploading your bank files to a web server, but that would require manual effort and checking the website. Who knows...maybe Blizz will add something like that to a future bnet patch...?

Is there any chance we can lower the number of votes to kick, been going mad over laggers lagging so hard that we can't kick them because they keep alternating b.net timeout and not. :/ Driving me insane.
What do you think about the default option being random instead of koth. I find most people don't want to play koth and it is not easy to get everyone on the same page to change the option.

No I already had it on so this wasn't it. Though I have somewhat 'fixed' this issue by turning it off then on.
ATTENTION EU PLAYERS: Up until now, whe most popular PeepMode map has been "1v1 Metalopolis + Obs Koth" (the old Slime slot). This map has been discontinued. Please play "1v1 Obs - Map of the Day" instead. Or if you prefer Metalopolis, play "PeepMode Metalopolis [Obs KotH 1v1]". Thanks.
for me, the Peep Mode map of the day consistently crashes my program as soon as it's loaded. I can play the individual map versions (Metalopolis etc) but when I try the Map of the Day one, I can never get loaded past the lobby screen.
Is it possible to save each game as a single replay? Peep would be so much better if it was possible to watch the replays without forwarding 30 min until you hit your game.....
Hey Icculus I'm still having the issue where I can't "click to play" with advanced avatar selection on, this is a pretty big problem since it means I miss out on playing unless I'm fast enough to turn avatar selection off and on, which in many cases I'm not.
Hey great map, but I found a bug today: when you're being revealed, your army should not be revealed as well. In fact, even my cloaked units were revealed. In standard play, only the buildings are revealed until a Hatch/CC/Nexus is built.
Btw this happened on the Korhal Compound version of the map
hello. i'm playing on a mac and ever since the updates, the loading screen has been a blank white screen. also, the game always freezes when i'm not one of the 2 that are chosen to play, otherwise, i can play just fine.
XenoX101: I'm not sure I completely understand. Can you send a replay to peepmode at gmail so I can check it out in more detail?
TzTz: thx man! I appreciate it. Also agree about Blizz Lobby situation. Very poorly designed; I'm in awe of how badly designed Bnet 2.0 is.
hybridsc: Blizzard makes it impossible to implement the "Reveal" mechanic as it works in-game. I won't go into the nitty-gritty technical details on this. The best I can do is change Alliance Aspect so that revealing is actually just sharing Vision with you (which includes all units). Until Blizzard exposes more of what I call "fog of war memory for structures", this and a couple other features of melee spectation are impossible (or very painful) to duplicate in mods
pangit: Hmm, okay thanks for letting me know. I did notice some DDS image issues on Mac last time I tested, but I thought I fixed those. Could you send a replay to peepmode at gmail? Or did it not save a replay?
ya, replay doesn't save as i have had to force shut down my computer when it freezes. i'll send a screen capture of what the loading screen looks like. also, i'll try to get my friends together again and try to shoot a short video of the freezing issue with my phone.
I played this map for the first time earlier and it was amazing how low my fps were. It was actually unplayable. I don't know if it's video card related (HD 5970, crossfire disabled) or map related (Korhal bug) but I thought I'd report it in case it's the same for others. I tried watching the replay after and moving to x2 or x4 even on Low with everything caused me to have around 10 fps. Not something you expect when you paid $700 for a video card.
Hollow: Hehe usually everyone complains about lag, not low fps. So that's sort of strange. It's only PeepMode, no other maps? Is it just 1v1 Obs - Map of the Day or individual PeepMode maps? If you could send me details to peepmode@gmail.com, might be a better place to discuss troubleshooting your specific situation.
Just wanted to say, I love the peepmode maps, and play them with friends quite often, I just wish they were more popular, as the only one that ever has players join it is Metalopolis. Not that metal is bad, just that I'd like to play some of the other maps once in a while.
I think it'd be cool to see one of those 6m 1g/1hyg make it into the rotation. There's definately some cool potential in those maps, but just no sample size. I'd like to see some games on there.
goodpoltergeist: You must not be aware of 1v1 Obs - Map of the Day...that is the most popular PeepMode map on EU and NA and rotates maps daily.
fire_brand: Can you send a couple maps to peepmode at gmail? I'll consider them, although at this point I'm focusing on tourney maps. Injecting new maps could kill the popularity with a lot of players.
Peepmode gave me a loss that i didn't actually lose D: Not sure even how, because i didn't lose to get one...the game in question is also missing from my match history, so i can't even check to see what happened.

It's not something you can see in a replay because its UI based, it just happened again now after a match all the fucking avatar buttons are greyed when I want to play, really frustrating.
XenoX: Actually you should be able to see all the UI stuff when viewing from your point of view in a replay. So if you send a replay it really would help me troubleshoot.

Thanks, but it seems to be resolved now. I played a bit with some settings. Now the lag always comes from other players.
Are you able to force the player`s true ladder ranking to be shown? Sometimes you`ll get people who go HERP DERP I`M A MASTERS when they are clearly silver--gold.

Ok I'll do it next time it happens.
Something else I noticed which probably isn't a bug but could be easily fixed is that the "Log/History" tab doesn't show Assimilators, Extractors or Refineries. I noticed this when I was trying to check a player's build order and couldn't tell when he took his gases.
XenoX101: Are you using the Event Class filters correctly? You need to have the class that you want to see checked...they are to the left of the history box when you bring it up ("Economy" in this case).

Hey! I would like to say - even though Blizzard is using 8m2g at all bases on Daybreak, if you could keep the Daybreak center expands as 6m/1hyg that'd be awesome. I wasn't sure what your thought process on this was but I play on that with my friends quite a bit and I like that feature of the map!
Also great job, I love all of these maps. If you take suggestions, it'd be pretty cool to see Metropolis and Ohana included in the next batch. Thanks again!
EDIT: Holy crap just read your post, awesome! So excited.
DOUBLE EDIT: maybe you've heard this before, but have you ever thought about pets being for the observers and not the players? Such as doodads that spawn that they can move around the map? One of the old versions of the obs maps had this and I thought it was cute. If this is a dumb idea no worries though.
Broodie: I've considered this, but in the interest of keeping the map popular, I haven't done it. It takes 3 hours to add a map plus time for publishing, so I'm not going to spend time on unproven maps that will just be complained about. Sorry.
Phase: I've been contacted regarding the 6m1hyg maps and am waiting on Barrin (?) to contact me with more details. Is there consensus on best 6m1hyg map? As for observer pets, my approach in PeepMode is to keep things controlled by the players only. However, I am considering adding some mechanics so that observers have more to do. I'm still considering how best to do this.
Oh i keep forgetting to say....the game ALWAYS lags like fucking crazy on the pick screen the first time around. Im talking like 5 seconds to each timer second lag. It's absurd, not sure if there's any particular reason, but it's really irritating
ALso, sometimes, the spawn location still rotates in, like it used to on the old1v1 obs maps
peep mode is truely amazing and he is one of the awesome people that made it so that eu got it too (blizzard please fix this mapmakingdesaster with no shared custommappool for all servers)
A note on lag on the first face-off: My hunch is that slower computers take time to load each model as it appears on-screen. Blizzard's model pre-loading functions do not seem to work, so I can't fix this. I have seen many completely lag-free first faceoffs so I disagree with the emphatic ALWAYS. I'd say USUALLY

Ok a final thought...you cant type anything during pause, at least as a player. That means you cant let the other player know before you unpause, making it rather inconvienient.
On March 12 2012 13:22 IcculusLizard wrote: murphs: What do you mean? Like your other apps stop sending/receiving? I don't personally have any experience with or data on that...
Ye it only happens when I join the peepmode games. SC2 becomes unresponsive (I can only logout and view profiles) and I can't load any webpages or do anything with my net. It can take 5+ minutes for my internet to actually work again. It happens about 80% of the time when I join the lobby.
Oh man TT
This problem had stopped for some reason about 10 days ago. I've been playing 1v1 obs motd daily with absolutely no problems.
Now today it starts up again. I've been unable to play. Exact same problem as before. Here is a thread I made on the blizzard forums when I last had the issue http://eu.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/3484160116
Probably nothing anyone can do to help me but 1v1 obs is the only reason I am playing SC2 at this stage. Gonna be sad if I can't play it anymore. Is there anything that might have changed in the last 2 days that might have possibly caused this to start up again? Nothing has changed on my end.
@murphs: My friend had that exact same problem just now when I tried to host a custom Ohana peepmode. Was inviting two friends, one of which downloaded without problem, the other did not even start a download. When he restarted SC2 it took him two tries to host a peepmode Ohana himself so that he at least had the map -- when that was done he could join without error.
murphs: I have made updates to the system recently, most notably adding the Wings of Libertay campaign dependency so I can import heroes for avatars. I have no idea what could be going on - hopefully Blizzard has some insight. If other players start reporting it more often it will be helpful, but so far it seems really limited.
sAfuRos: Unfortunately, Blizzard doesn't expose chat during pause...I had to replace the chat system to get it off the center of the damn screen (I hated that in cinematic mode), which means several trade-offs. See in-game Help (F12) for more info on those tradeoffs.
On April 07 2012 12:25 IcculusLizard wrote: Just added two FRB (Fewer Resources per Base) maps to the map pool. CrossPoint and Devolution. These maps are not part of Map of the Day...yet.
Thanks! This should be fun! Especially since you can't really watch replays together this is a pretty cool way of getting a feel for the FRB concept with some people. Good move!
Yeah until now I've been making games with like 2-8 observers, big hassle etc. I was about to list all the benefits, but it's just too much as should be obvious to anyone who's played Peepmode.
cipher519: I haven't been able to re-create this although someone else reported it as well. I think it's a Trigger Error that's then preventing further functions. I turned trigger error display on in the Map of the Day. If you see this happen again, please send replay to peepmode at gmail and hopefully there will be an error displayed that will tip me off as to how to fix it. Thanks!
Dude, that typed to me, if u read it, I also think protoss deathball vs terran is imbah :D (not in ur hands tho) Btw is putting wrong league (like everyone do) is so bannable? :> Ahahahah, I just realized that u cant be banned in custom game. lol Dat guy <3
So today on MotD (it was Ohana if for some reason this matters) when I sent out messages to people on my friends list, it was also sending it to the observer chat in game. Will send replay if for some reason it's relevant.
zelgadissan: This is a side effect caused by replacing Blizz's chat system (which I did for PeepMode). See Chat Log (F11) > Help or Help (F12) > Chat for all the details in-game. The work-around is to use the Bnet Social interface, not "slash" chat commands.
Ok there is a new problem with peepmode and its been happening to me and others for about 3 days now. while you are playing if you win, your opponent gg's out so he can quit but they are unable to quit the game no matter how many times they gg, and even after they all together jsut leave the game you dont get a win and the game keeps going evena fter they leave. so I kill all the buildings even all the units and the game still doesnt end and im forced to just quit the whole game and get a loss. this happened to about 5 of the people i play with all the time and many others in the game while i was observing
ChillRussian: Yes I'm aware of this but don't know what's causing it other than a trigger error. Trigger errors will now display in the lower left of the Map of the Day, so I'm just waiting for someone to send me a replay where this happens and the trigger error(s) are displayed. Otherwise I have no way of fixing since I have been unable to recreate.
Thanks to everyone who sent replays. I believe I fixed the issue on the Map of the Day version. Once confirmed I'll roll out to rest of maps. FYI the "gg bug" was happening only when either player selected a Campaign (new) avatar.
Icculus, it's normal that hosting in commentator mode means that nobody will join the game b y selecting it from the public game list? This feature is supposed to be for private hosting only? Nobody ever enters my lobby when I do this, so I am pretty sure that this is the case.
So I'll ask if there are any plans or alternatives to this, so that I can simply commentate in the pub ob games. I used to do it in the old peepmode using the standard in-game voice chat which it seems no longer works. I tested it out pretty thoroughly with many users today (cloud kingdom) and none of us could hear a single person, and we all went through the steps of making sure everything was setup right. Anyway, people loved it when I would commentate, and I loved adding that entertainment to the games. Help?
TuynmaN: First, spamming is not necessary or appreciated. Second, when I tried to do that exact thing a few weeks ago I got several *angry* emails almost immediately so I'm not going to do it again. If you want it to change, petition players to vote on a different Match Mode in-game.
Lumi: Sounds like you don't quite have a grasp on how crappy the Blizzard lobby situation is. Unfortunately I cannot control any of that. I'm really hoping Blizzard will address many of these issues in future patches (especially the next Arcade patch). I can't control voice chat either, so I have no idea what's going on there. I'd recommend using Skype or other VoIP software to communicate with others during a game. In essence, if you want to stream/commentate and you don't have players lined up for invitation to a Commentator Mode lobby that you setup, then you'll need to go to the normal 1v1 Obs Map of the Day and just do the best you can given the limitations of non-Commentator Mode.
First time posting so I will make this brief. I've been frequenting the 1v1 obs before it was peepmode and now that this wonderful (100% better than the original) game has reared its mighty sword I think its the best one around. However, I have noticed lately that it is getting harder and harder to win against some players. I check their profiles after the game and it says master, diamond (which I am in), but mostly platinum or gold. I normally wouldn't mind losing because I use peepmode as a way to try out new strategies, but there is something different about these loses.
If you look at their peepmode rating and win-rate they are all at 100% in upwards of 900 wins (usually around 300-400, but still 100%). I honestly think that someone has either hacked the game (I do not know if this is even possible?); or someone who has a hackbot is trolling the game. This is not only one person either, I've counted 7 total different accounts just yesterday with astronomical win-rates.
Is there anyway to check for this on your end? Or improve the game so maphacks do not work? Or is that pretty much just left up to Blizzard?

Is it possible to wait for the lobby to fill up before changing the game mode to commentator?

There's a way for people to disconnect from the game just before losing so that they don't actually take a loss on their record. I saw it happen once and it creates this really weird situation where the game thinks that the player is still in it, yet his units and buildings don't spawn, so it's just one player on an otherwise empty map. It's really strange.

But it would still take quite a while to get 400-900 wins as a platinum/gold player if ever able to do it. I just don't understand it. I did play one of them, and he harassed me for 6 games afterwards with 4 different accounts, all of which had the 100% in the hundreds of wins. I noticed that each time he played me he had a perfect counter for whatever I did and even stopped moving a scv up a ramp and block my natural because he 'saw' my drone coming from my base to my natural (without having vision). That is why I just assumed some kind of maphack.
ESV Vicious by ProdiG has been added to the map pool and will be featured as Map of the Day tomorrow
Konranjyoutai: This is the first I've heard of this. Unless I encounter those players in an actual game I don't know what's going on. It may be possible to hack the bank, but very difficult (depending on if Blizzard's Banks are truly secure or not).
KDrake: The situation you describe is not quite related but is also a rare bug. If someone disconnects during a match, it will register as a loss in their bank file. When you start a match, your bank is updated to say that you lost the match...only when you actually get to a win does it write a win to your bank file. However, since banks are stored locally, one can always just keep using a backed-up version to replace new version in case of a loss. You'd think Blizz would have stored this server-side...sigh.
Lousy!: Due to crappy bnet lobby system, this is not possible
Mercy13: Try "peepmode" chat channel
Flying Banana: PeepMode has always been available on SEA. Map of the Day is NA/EU only, however.

I'm experimenting with limiting the maximum players on Map of the Day to 10 to see if that mitigates lag on average.
Can u please do something to Metropolis? Me and few mine friends have 10-15fps there (unplayable), so basically when its Metropolis day, we cant play. Im sure many other people have same issues
Hmm, I wasn't aware of a specific issue with Metropolis; I watched several games with no issues after publishing. If this is a widespread occurrence I can talk to the mapmaker to see if he has any ideas since I don't treat maps any differently when implementing PeepMode on them.

It's a 'known' issue with the map, which is why Blizzard has removed it from ladder.

Metropolis has been removed from map pool. Votes on it were reset, so you may have a free vote at peepmode.com/maps now
HEYALEX: To see spectator chat in real-time, the spectators must vote via Options (F9) to enable that. Otherwise, you can look at the Chat Log (F11) after a match to review spectator comments made during your match.
I'd like to ask a favor: I switched up how the Reveal mechanic works in the Map of the Day so it only shares vision of structures instead of all units (I know, I know - it's still not quite right, but it's the best I can do right now). Could folks try to get into situations where you let yourself get revealed to test this out? If you find issues, please send replays to peepmode at gmail. Thanks I appreciate it.
I tried watching a replay of a game I played in peepmode, and it was unwatchable. The fps went to 0 every 5 seconds throughout the game. I had no fps problems while actually playing it.
This is not a huge problem, but I'd like to see observers win more if they bet earlier in a game. You should not get the same amount for betting correctly a minute before the loser calls gg at 25min as someone who bets at the 7min mark.

Yeah, you're actually punished for betting early. Betting early = possible loss. Not betting = no loss. Betting just before GG = guaranteed win.
Maybe start a timer after each bet wave and if a player GGs before the timer expires, null the bet. Then just give earlier bet waves more weight than later bet waves.
Thoughts on Betting: I've been getting a lot of requests to scale the betting system to reward early betters. I'd also like to make some other improvements to betting. I'm thinking of making the following changes:
- Betting on round 1 gives you 30% bonus on return for that portion of your bet, round 2 => 20%, round 3 => 10% - When you bet, it will save this in your local bank, so if you leave a game, you still lose your chips and those chips are still available as payout to other players who do not leave. Currently when you leave you take your bet with you. - When you bet, there's a "gg" cooldown on that bet. If someone GG's before that timer runs out, the bet does not get placed.
This is going to add some complexity to the system and I'm not sure how to convey this through the UI. I suppose for the "GG" cooldown, I could just have a [SYS] message inform the user "Your last bet was made too close to GG, and therefore did not get placed". Does anyone have any ideas about how to convey the Bonus for betting earlier in a non-invasive way that makes it clear that it's an incentive for newbs?
Also, any other ideas while we're talking about betting?
You could say something like "Bet earlier for bigger bonuses." in the intro/timeout screen. The multiplier idea sounds fine.

I don't know if this is necessary since you can only bet in 7min intervals already.
This is not related to bets, but is it possible to disable bling (e.g. territorial markers) on an individual basis? When someone has a lot of bling, it gets really distracting, but most people just use default settings.
Edit: Second suggestion. Can you make it so that you don't automatically cash all your chips when you leave? For people who are in to high risk/high reward.
CyanideXN: Disabling bling on an individual basis shouldn't be too difficult....I think that's a good suggestion to make it an individual option instead of voted on. Also, I think the idea of not cashing chips when you leave is interesting as well. I'll add both of these to future feature list
I'm in EU. A few month ago there were always people playing KOTH on Metalopolis. But Metalapolis was removed some weeks ago, I believe. The last weeks, I haven't been able to play at all. I choose the most popular map, and wait for like 15 minutes, but only one or two players joins the lobby, but leave after a few minutes. I have tried on maps that aren't the most popular too.
small query, is the UI capable of having draggable windows so that I can move all the boxes in a more preferred arrangement? edit: i mean as a future feature. obviously you can't right now. I am asking if the editor would be able to allow that.

I think keep it simple.
When the betting window close, say "Round X bets are locked. You will place Y on Z in A seconds."
When the bets are locked, say "Round X bet placed. You've bet Y on Z."
If the bets are cancelled, have a line in the round winnings dialog that shows amounts refunded in addition to win/loss.
If you are going to redo the betting system I have some ideas about how to improve it to make it much more interesting. I think the current system is pretty bad and the worst thing about your awesome map
Each observer would choose what he thought was the % chance to win for their favorite using a slider (Player A 100%---------50---------100% Player B)
I would have a fixed bet size, not determined by the player (100) maybe an option to double your bet once per game
The two (or 1 for small games) Obs who most favored either player would get to bet at the odds they chose. So, if there are 6 observers and they think that Player A will win 25, 33, 35, 38, 40, 50% respectively, Obs1 would bet on player B, getting 1:3 (33 profit), Obs2 would bet on player B getting 1:2 (50 profit), Obs5 would bet on player A getting 3:2 (150 profit) and Obs6 would bet on player A getting 1:1(100 profit). Obs 3 and 4 would not bet anything. Also the bettors should get a bonus, something like +10% for Obs 2 and 5 in the example and +25% for Obs 1 and 6.
I don't know if this makes any sense to other people, I am a professional gambler so this stuff is intuitive for me and i can describe it in greater detail.
The main qualities that a betting system should have are to reward the people who make the most accurate predictions and to make the process of making an accurate prediction fun. I think using a % to win instead of a binary win/loss prediction is essential to achieving this. Also, I would get away from the idea of winning other people's chips directly, it's much easier to balance a system if you can set the odds yourself and the system should be positive-sum anyways, at least with decent players.
BreakfastBurrito: Draggable dialogs are very very difficult (if not impossible) unfortunately
Ayahuasca: First, awesome name. Second, I think I like this betting slider idea. I don't fully grasp it yet but I'll definitely be thinking about this.
I'm not sure I completely understand the question, but I think the answer is "no". The first opportunity to bet comes after the players have spawned, not before.

Ah well, thanks for answering anyway. I love how you respond to the community to keep this map updated!
I second the "real league" being shown idea. I know that would be very complicated because you'd have to somehow have the system look up each player and update quickly for the sake of the game about to happen.
Also I was wondering if we could have the betting system scale to some degree or individualize it based on how much you're betting. Too many times you see players legitimately betting on the favored player and suddenly you have 1 guy bet like $10 on the underdog. The idea of "betting with better odds because its the underdog" kind of stops the betting from being fun at all when this happens. You're risking $1000 for a 6-way split cut of $10. It would just be nice if someone who tried to bet that low only had a shot at maybe winning 5x their bet or something. Still really good odds for betting on the underdog, but at least force them to bet realistically and not getting 60:1 odds for no risk.
That being said, I absolutely love peep mode maps and I'm so glad you guys added that ladder system. Its like being able to ladder outside your league at will. Any plans to reset it with seasons or something?
Also any plans to expand the "bling" section with additional rewards in the various tiers? It makes a really for a really cool reward system for diligent practicing.
Hi guys, thanks for your comments. The league issue has been covered multiple times in this thread (tldr: bnet does not provide access to league info, which is why I have to ask).
The Peep rating system is based on Sonas rating system, which is not meant to be reset, but is meant to approximate one's skill within the global population of players. As time goes on and more players play each other, the figures become more accurate. Your Peep rating could theoretically approach 2400 after playing several thousand games and winning against the best players. This takes a long time. Hence, I have no intention of ever resetting the Peep rating...players should just keep working on it. Eventually I may add a mechanism to see your overall ranking by uploading your bank file to peepmode.com.
I am looking to improving the betting system to make it more engaging.
The bling section does get updated periodically with new items and that will continue in the future, especially with HotS content.

I'm so glad you keep up with the comments and feedback so often. Its the mark of a good map-maker! I know the league issue is pretty impossible to keep people honest. Its basically just up to us to spam-check everybody in the lobby before the game starts.
Is it possible to increase the lobby size to 12? 10 players feels too little. After you factor in leavers, laggers and afkers, there are about 4-8 active people, with ~50% playing. Sometimes, there's only 1 person who wants to play... I know that the lobby size was cut down to reduce lag, but these laggers still exist anyway, even if there's only 1 person in the game.
I can definitely see both sides of the "10 player" vs "14 player" limit. For Map of the Day, my personal experience on NA has shown me that limiting the players to 10 is actually working to mitigate lag; and usually the lobbies are indeed full when the map lanuches. It doesn't fix the lag on the first faceoff, but it's markedly better. In normal PeepMode maps, the limit is still 14 if you want to organize your own game. I may switch it back if other players feel strongly about it. So far I've had about 5 requests to limit it to 10 and 1 to put it back to 14.
Bug: tabs such as units lost and spending don't reset between the games.
Please keep it at 10 players. Until Blizzard improves the rather shitty code that runs bnet 2.0 I'd rather see the limit at 10. The extra four players usually don't contribute much to the average game anyway. Also, what does the game do when you kick someone? With laggy players the game says it kicks them but they often times hang around for multiple lag boxes before finally getting kicked.
Yeah the units lost tab is weird in that there's a specific function to clear those out, but the function doesn't seem to work. So the last time I checked it was a bug with the editor, essentially. I haven't look at that in a while, though, so I'll check it out again. In the meantime, I suggest you use the Quick Panel to see units lost, as that is accurate.
With kicking, yeah it's weird but when you tell the system to kick a player, it *still* tries to contact their game client to let them know that (I'm assuming) and so you have to wait another few seconds if they are lagged out. I wish it would just cut their client and continue the game without lag, but I don't know how the internals work with that so it may be impossible or difficult. For now, I switched the message to "Player X is being kicked" instead of "was kicked".
actually have always been a fan of the 1on1 obs MOD ever since it's been released, but when I first played this I was completely mind-blown... This excels obs in ANY possible way! Awesome job, thanks a lot for providing!
I guess the majority prefers 10 players.. Oh well. About the kicking issue, I think it has to do with the response of the player getting kicked. He'll get a popup saying he got kicked, but he actually needs to click it to disconnect. Not 100% sure on this, but I believe that's how it works because I've seen 1 very persistent asshole who continued lagging for ~2 minutes until he finally was dropped by the blizzard drop function. Don't think there's anyway to fix that though.
Ayahuasca: I'm thinking I like your general suggestion that you put forward several messages ago. I like the idea of betting against the house so that each bet can be rewarding and have a predictable win rate and I also like the idea of rewarding those who bet the most/earliest. That said, I need to do some more research into betting/odds and try to figure out exactly how that slider you mentioned would work. My time is going to be tight over the next few weeks, but I can certainly be thinking about this and getting the design right in my head before attempting to implement. Would you mind sending me an email to peepmode at gmail so I can bounce some ideas off you at various times? You mentioned you were a pro gambler, so that would be helpful. Thx!

I have been booted before due to the random 14 player lag, so I would like to keep the 10 player limit. (People go on witch hunts, banning random people at first faceoff) And on that topic, no, you do not have to click or do anything, you are sent to the score-screen after being voted out, no action required. If someone is remaining in the game it would seem that it is just a function of lag.

Okay, that's interesting. I always thought that if a player lags when there's 14, they'll still lag when there's only 1. If you go directly to the scorescreen after being booted, then I have no idea why that residual lag occurs...
Apparently, 1v1 obs of the day for Antiga allows marauders to have AOE concussive... (I haven't seen it on any other maps yet), but really? http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Marauder
Should put one of the new gsl maps as map of the day (whirlwind and the other one) or at least add them to the poll on the website. (sorry if i'm just missing them >.<)
This would be an awesome way to get a ton of games on them really quickly against a bunch of different players.
Note on the 14 vs 10 max players, I'd prefer 10 for one reason. Late night games usually the host isn't actually voluntarily hosting, but just happened to be first or get passed it when the host left. AFK hosts mean the game takes that much longer to fill and auto-start if it were at 14 so 10 seems more optimal for this reason as well. Looking forward to the changes in the betting system. Sucks my stats and profile got erased but that's fine, I'll have a much higher winrate this time around the ladder
killerdog: Are Whirlwind and Muspelheim permanent additions or were they just try-outs? It's a bit time consuming to add new maps to the pool and keep them up to date, so I like to add only proven maps. There don't seem to be copies of these available on NA battle.net, which suggests they haven't been widely adopted. That said, I'm always up to add new maps if they're deemed worthy by the community.

Is there a place or a way we can check our rating? Also is it possible to reset your rating? Thanks for creating such a great map.
Allright IcculusLizard, I watched the vid for PeepMode map of the day and had an idea. Is it possible to have just one huge map that has like 4 different maps in each corner of the main map. I mean like, metalopolis to take up 25% of the area of the main map. And when you join a game, people can vote on which map they want to play and it will then the screen area will be locked to that part of the map. I believe that in SC2 you can also lock the minimap as well.
I haven't modded anything since like WC3, but I don't see why this wouldn't be possible. The only thing that comes to mind is perhaps the restrictions of the map size... but other than that do you think it is possible?
I would love to have random matchmaking from the beginning instead of king of the hill. Makes it more fun and more players get to play. I love peepmode and play it daily

I know what you mean though, when there is lag, after booting people, I get that feeling that the lag persists, and I wonder why (same as you) and on a low-end computer like mine that already lags when the players' supply count starts to get large it can be quite sad A lot of people say the action of voting to kick (even if nobody is kicked yet) causes lag for a few seconds as well, and this may hold some ground as a separate lag issues. Wish we could get them all sorted out haha.
In ladder games you can only stack 2 workers on one mineral patch in peep mode you can stack 3 without the third one moving to another one as it would do in ladder matches. I dont think a replay is necessary since its in every peep mode match.

It happens even in ladder games. Sometimes, the AI is stupid enough that 16 workers per mineral field = 3 workers on a faraway patch, and 1 worker on some other patch. You're probably too busy with other tasks to notice it on the ladder.

If he hasn't obfuscated it, you can open your bank file to see your rating. I'm sure it's verified though, so attempting to edit it would be futile.
You can reset banked information by simply deleting the bank file.
I would be more than happy to upload, update and support the peepmode maps to the SEA server. My clan uses these maps on a daily basis and we were heartbroken to see then removed.
If you used them every day, why was every single map on SEA showing zero hours played every time I checked over last few weeks (maybe 3 times total)? What's the problem with playing on NA? You have access to that realm from SEA client.
Couple requests - (note: I had some other requested features but I see you're already addressing those by looking back through the last few pages of this thread)
1. Please change the betting system so you just get a percentage of your own bet / lose a percentage of your own bet.
Suppose "A" and "B" each put 1400 credits on someone that's very likely to win. "C" (a troll) bets 18 credits on the other player. Now A and B's payouts are killed. Normally, they might make or lose 420 credits each. But now, they'll make 9 credits each if they win, and if they lose they lose everything.
"C" might not even be a troll. Low betters rationalize low bets by saying "I have nothing to lose and everything to gain" (so who cares if I screw over other players' bets?) The current betting system encourages "gaming the system".
--
2. It would be nice to implement side game(s) of some sort. Some games are slow, leaving observers with little to do, so they quit to go find something more engaging.
Side game(s) could include texas hold 'em, side bets on particular parts of the game (who will hit 200 supply first or kill 1000 resources worth of units first), or maybe Bejeweled or Tetris or some sort of side SC2 variant (like Left 2 Die or Starcraft Master or something). Let them earn credits on the side games, even if it's just a bit, to keep their interest.
Most games really do tend to fall apart after a few matches, as the pool of available players drops.
The side games could also pay off on a better scale over time (say they pay out an additional 2% with each additional match.)
If you do implement a cut in the payout system (mentioned below), putting in side games could offset some of the protests. Players will figure "Oh, I don't make as much on bets, but now there's cool side games, this guy thought of everything!" (Or hopefully they will figure that.)
--
On the idea of changing payouts so earlier bets pay out more - I'd say 30% / 20% / 10% is a pretty sharp payout cut.
At the 10 second mark, you really don't have enough information to make a judgment on who might win other than on rating. This isn't "fair" because suppose one player is new (zero games played)? Such a player's rating and information can't be reflective of that player's skill, so observers can't have any accurate information on which to base their bet.
So I'd request that the 30% payout at least be maintained until the 7 minute mark. Betters at the 1 minute mark still have the advantage of collecting on an early bet if the game ends before the 7 minute mark (zergling rush, photon cannons, etc.)
Perhaps cut the payout to 25% then 20% for the 14 and 21 minute marks.
20% should probably be the minimum to which payouts should be reduced. As it is, cutting payouts discourages observers - 10% is pretty draconian. True, it's important to encourage players. But if observers don't have anything to do, then they might just leave - why stick around? (Another reason to perhaps implement side games.)
--
Regarding players and credits -
Perhaps allow players to receive a small percentage of the credits from those that bet against them, and from those that bet on them. Also perhaps allow fixed winning and losing payouts to increase by 10% each round, to encourage players to stay. (So first round winner gets 1000, loser 300. Next round 1100, loser 330. Then 1210 / 363. etc.)
Regarding getting a percentage -
So suppose a losing player was losing early, and suppose plenty of players bet against him/her. Then the player manages to pull out a reversal and wins. Maybe the player could be rewarded for that more exciting gameplay and for being able to pull out a reversal by getting 5% of the total bet against the player.
On the other hand, suppose a winning player maintained dominance through the entire game. It's less exciting to watch, and less interesting to play. If a percentage of the bets on the player were given to the player, it should thus be lower, perhaps 1%.
--
Why award a percentage at all? (Or change the current system?)
As it is, match win/loss payouts are fixed, but observers get a percentage. The current system is fairly rewarding to players initially, but after a little time, it favors observers. So that means that for those going for credits (granted, a lot of players don't care much about such things, but some do), it makes sense to play at first, but then to observe. (Of course when players switch to observing, nobody plays and everything falls apart anyways).
Suppose you win and/or lose, and amass 3000 credits. (Happens pretty fast). At that point, 30% of 3000 is 900, plus you get 100 credits for observing. So you will get 1000 credits for correctly betting all on a player, without pushing yourself to play and win. If you have more than 3000 credits, it makes even more sense to observe than to play.
Changing the payouts for winners and losers will maintain the payout advantage for players relative to observers, and encourage continuous play. It shouldn't discourage earlier play either, because someone wanting to go for the maximum possible income will always want to play.
--
Regarding playing multiple matches at one time - I think it is possible, although you would have to import multiple maps into a single large map, and have "zoom" on sections.
Long post, thanks for reading! (If you don't like reading long posts, why did you make yourself read this one? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Suppose you just made a big big bet on someone and lost all your credits. (oh noes!)
There should hopefully be some way to establish a minimum of 1000 credits. Maybe if a player or observer has less than 1000 credits on a given round, that player's credits are set to 1000.
(That way, players won't just want to quit and find another game so they have another 1000 credits to bet with.)
The betting suggestion you posted here has already been suggested several pages back. They've been working on a new system in conjunction with several professional gamblers with extensive knowledge on how to create a system that's realistic.
Hey guys, there are some good ideas being expressed in the last few messages, most of which I already have on my to-do list. I'm currently following my favorite band Phish and working full-time from the road, which has left very little time for me to work on PeepMode. I haven't even been able to keep up with posting the Map of the Day properly I feel bad about this but the reality of the situation is that until July 7 or so, I won't have any time to put toward PeepMode updates.
I apologize for my absence but please be patient and know that in a few weeks I'll get to working on improving several features, especially the betting system.

Games not opened to the public don't log any time played.
could you guys try make a GSTL type of peepmode? e.g. 2 teams and the teams vote for player to play. Once they have voted the first players from each team battle it out until one loses then the next player is voted to follow on. After the game the teams can talk strategy and help each other figure out how to play the next match. I think this could turn out to be really fun, Thanks if you guys try this
It's possible you checked while D3 was just coming out and a lot of us had exams. We (VB) and I assume Fridge's peeps (& others) would usually have private games that wouldn't show up if the above is true.
We don't want to play on NA because we're on SEA. For some people it's a lag issue, but as a clan we run things on SEA and it's a pain in the arse when maps we'd like to play aren't uploaded - it splits an already small community.
What is the issue with having them uploaded and what can we do to fix it for you?

People from Australia want to play on SEA for the same reason that you play on NA and not EU or SEA.
This is my favorite custom map. My only request is that it would be awesome to be able to review chat in the replay ile. Oftentimes I'm curious what people were saying when I was playing.
Currently in the replays I can hear a "bleep" indicating when one of the two players are speaking, but no text appears onscreen. And theres no bleeps at all for spectators.
Hey guys, sorry I've been unresponsive...still on the road for a few more days.
The reason I took it down from SEA is that it takes time/effort to apply updates (like if a bad bug is found) and I needed room on my laptop for the 1.5 beta and my PC has something wrong with it, so I don't have a way to publish to SEA right now. I'm waiting for a new laptop that will arrive next week, at which point I can put everything back up on SEA. Please play on NA right now and sorry for the inconvenience.
The "1v1 Obs - Map of the Day" is still on EU...not sure why ppl are saying it isn't.
To answer a couple other questions: Unfortunately, I can't control replays...what you see is what you get via that character's perspective. Since I have a custom chat system, they'd have to have those chats visible to them if you're watching from that perspective. I hope that makes sense.
VB_WhiplashJC: Creating PeepMode was no small feat; it took a year of my life and I'm very protective of it, as are most artists/engineers when it comes to their creations. I have tried letting others publish, but it has not worked out very well. If a bug is found or important update needed, I must react very swiftly. Also, there's potential for cheating by reverse engineering the bank files. Sorry, but I'm just not ready to let others publish. I should be setup early next week to get it back up on SEA.
It's a fun map, but I as far as I know through my experiences the vision aspect of the game is whack. In replays or observer games I'm able to use the vision function to see what a player sees at the current moment. That'd be useful to see what a player can see, such as hidden proxies or tech play. I'm not sure if that's just my lack of knowledge of peepmode's UI or not. If so please correct me.
I'm setting up my new laptop and my main PC is in the shop, so once those issues are resolved I'll be back on track with some updates. Sorry for the delay...I'll look into adding Whirlwind.
Sovano: You're right, the observer functions are a bit off. This is because Blizzard doesn't expose the Fog of War information in their API. There are various hacks/workarounds, but they only approximate the true vision of a player. I'm hoping Blizzard exposes this in a future update so the vision can be correct.
I'm seeking screenshots (800x600, I know weird resolution) of epic PeepMode games (big battles with stats overlays up, for example). I need a total of 4 for the Arcade (patch 1.5 goes live this Tues!). Please send screenshots to peepmode at gmail. Thanks.
Patch 1.5 broke a few things. The minimap in cinematic mode is already fixed, just waiting for publishing to be allowed again on NA (currently down). The Blizzard UI might take a bit more work to bring back, but it looks like I'll have more control over that so I can add hotkeys and multi-ui layouts (like Resources and Units open at same time)...we'll see.
Also wondering about the lobby. I really miss being able to control the number of players in the game. I don't understand how the lobby things work, as said above seems like some have and some do not.
Lobby is back; it's strange how they added that option and set it to checked by default. I fixed the minimap, blizzard UI, added .ignore chat command, fixed a couple graphical glitches. Now I'm having trouble copying triggers across maps, so Map of the Day may be stuck on Cloud Kingdom for a few more days while I figure it out.
I fixed all known issues that 1.5 caused (including Production tab); see peepmode.com/changelog
My problem now is that there's a bug in the editor that prevents copy/paste of Image-based triggers. This means I can't copy my updates over to other maps and Map of the Day will have to remain stuck on Cloud Kingdom till Blizzard fixes the issue. Please note that non-Map of the Day PeepMode maps still exhibit 1.5 issues as well (missing minimap, blizzard ui, health bars, etc).
Monkeybone: this is intentional due to a known exploit where a spectator could command overlords to drop any units being carried by them. Also true of bunkers, medivacs, etc.
I know this is probably low priority, but the leviatan flys too high at the faceoffs, sometimes you cant even see it. Maybe increase camera range or let him float lower. And yes i just spent 150k chips on it haha.
I really like this custom map and I appreciate the work you've done to fix the damage patch 1.5 has caused Thanks for your continued effort to provide this very fun map !
Ajizi: I am still working on getting the newest updates pushed to EU. With any luck, EU will be up to date within 2 days.
Issamu: let me see if i can get him to float a bit lower
Doko: replays are often stuttery because of all the code thats running in the background. Its a lot to process, especially if replay is sped up, and replay engine seems less efficient than game engine.
JimmyJRaynor: unfortunately, Blizzard does not allow modification to replay engine, which is totally separate from game engine
As jhs)imperium was saying, this is a major problem. I jumped into a game and lost due to the fact that my marines kept randomly dancing. Found out it was some spectator who kept typing /dance on my units. Insanely frustrating to lose to some silly griefing feature like that.
Yeah I had the same problem last night.....sent out some early lings to a greedy toss and they just started dancing....the stupid spectator did it so freakin much I couldn't even move them. Very irritating indeed....and it's catching on with these newb ass trolls. Please fix asap.....I really love this game because it allows good practice with out laddering.
Hey guys, sorry about the /dance bug, it took me a few days to get it nailed down. It's fixed now...will be rolled out to non-Map of the Day versions soon.
When a player plays his 2nd game the images on his upgrades stay the same, if he got to 3/3 in the previous game the graphic will show 3/3 in his next game, while the numbers are on 0/0. The little glitch fixes itself once a player obtains 1/1 upgrades.
Hi, I have a small but pretty annoying problem... It seems, after the 1.5 update, I can not find any of the peepmode maps (in the search). Can you give me some pointers as to what should i search for in order to find any koth-type-like-map? Any help will be appreciated!
Has anyone else after the 1.52 patch been getting low FPS? My FPS is completely fine in other maps (Ladder, other customs) It goes from 20 FPS in the player selection, down to 4FPS during gameplay. My normal is FPS is between 60-80

Anyone else?
Vexxile
Same with me. All of my settings are on low. It worked fine once, but all of my other games have been extremely laggy.
I can confirm the lagginess after 1.5.2. Its usually not me but there's almost 100% someone lagging the game up due to performance issues that probably didn't exist for them until now. Its really annoying having to quit 6 st-u-t-t-e-r FPS games just to get to one that's playable.
Also having the lag problem. I thought it was the Bel'Shir map at first (due to the water effects) but I tried a daybreak map and experiences similar lag.
It's the maps period - I've never lagged and have a great comp but even with just me in the game, it lags now. Map has lost SO much ranking in the last 24 hours because of this =\
I think the massive performance issues we've all been noting since 1.5 and the worsening of them in 1.5.2 are only being made worse in peepmode with so many people and the upp'd graphics from all the faceoffs/bling.
Not sure if anything can be done on icculus's end until Blizzard addresses these massive issues with their game.
Sorry guys, I have no idea what's causing the lag and since Blizzard doesn't support mapmakers, all we can hope for is that they know about the issue and will address soon. I'll try to see if I can get more info from other devs in the meantime.
Im not sure whats going on but someone suggested the Unit Preloader map might have something to do with it. I'll switch up the map later tonight to see if that fixes things. Last time it fixed itself; very odd.
That would be awesome....also just to be clear should we run the unit pre loader map and then play? Tonight is thursty thursday and there's nothing more I love doing then coming home after some beers and playing obs mode!
I always run Unit Preloader before I play anything, and my experiences with this map have been pretty 50/50. Sometimes I get lag-free games and other times it's under 5 fps since 1.5. I understand not everybody runs the preloader though.
Also, kind of a stupid question because I haven't tried it but what's the difference between Peep Mode and Commentator Mode?
Okay I'm publishing different maps. Daybreak still had lag, trying Ohana. Not much I can do...it fixed itself last time so I have no clue what's going on...I hope it improves soon.
EDIT: Seems like Ohana is playable now. I don't think it's specific maps but some other condition that is causing the lag because I'm pretty sure Daybreak has been fine since 1.5.2 but it was lagging when I just published it. Strange stuff.
On September 02 2012 06:21 IcculusLizard wrote: Sorry about the lag; have no idea what's causing it and no fix forthcoming. I'm thinking of just retiring peepmode cuz it's pretty much pointless now.
I've found out that at least in a few cases if the same people try to play the map a second time the lag isn't there, so it might be that the first time around loading the assets is causing the lag. It's a bit ugly of an work-around, but maybe you could mention this in the loading screen + map description? I definitely don't think you should retire the map as it's by far the best observer map available and people will keep playing it so long as it's up.
I posted in the dev forum for the new patch but nothing so far. I suggest using the feature in battle.net that lets you report a custom for content. Tell them there's a problem with PeepMode since patch 1.5.2. If we get enough people doing that, perhaps they'll take a look.
FYI today I tried several things, including turning very significant portions of triggers. The lag persisted. My suspicion is that the problem has to do with something like a specific data change I've made or something like that...nearly impossible to test since it doesn't lag on my local machine.
There is a solution to the lag, but it's sort of strange... If someone leaves during the loading screen, it runs smooth as butter. I know it sounds stupid, but it works literally 100% of the time. If you have a dedicated leaver then you can reliably get a session going. I don't know if there's anything you can do with that information to fix the game, since it sounds like a server-side issue. But it's something.
Icculus , is there any way you could dumb down the map of the day so it has less features until the next patch? All the other 1v1 obs maps work fine, just the map of the day that doesnt. Perhaps the pets / betting / all the features it has.
I thought there was going to be a patch today =/ but blizz is too lazy.

This. If you are able to simply maintain the ability to select 2 players from a list of people that want to play + KOTH and see the game without lag that would be great. No other map really provides this and it would be a shame to see the community built around this die due to this terrible bug.
I did some testing yesterday, turning off nearly *all* features in the map, and it still lagged. So it doesn't seem to be related to the amount of triggers involved. Some devs have said that all maps created before 1.5.2 have some lag issues. I may need to take a standard map, save it in 1.5.2 editor, then apply all the PeepMode stuff to it and see if that works. That will take a few hours...not sure when I'll have time to do that but hopefully soon.

Ugh. WC3 had these same problems with unexplained lag and long load times for maps that weren't rebuilt from scratch for a new release. It seems really strange that sc2 has these issues too.
Lechooga has posted the following on the battle.net forums; not sure if it works, but worth a try?
"There is a somewhat non-intuitive solution to players suffering from extremely low frame rates in custom games since 1.5.2. If any one player quits the game during the loading screen, the lag will be fixed when the game loads. It sounds like voodoo, but it works literally 100% of the time. We have an extra account and an extra machine, so our solution is to have one machine dedicated to quitting the game during loading, and thus enjoy PeepMode and other maps lag-free."

Oh wow I was testing this with a Mac being the dropped user so it didn't work for me but I've definitely heard from enough people that someone dropping during loading screen via PC will provide lag-free game for everyone else. This info at least narrows the issue down...it doesn't make any sense, but at least it narrows it down.
monkybone: Unfortunately my code isn't in control until after the loading screen ends...which is the really weird thing.
There are some players over on EU complaining that they can't even get decent framerates in the melee game after 1.5.2. I'm hoping Blizzard will address the issue very soon.

if you search for "obs" you can find it - also if you go to the arcade and where it has the "top played", click the right arrow to use "top rated" and it will be in those rankings.
Are other people seeing two separate "1v1 Obs - Map of the Day" entries in the TOP RATED and Up and Coming sections? I can't figure out why two are showing up...seems like a battle.net issue to me.

There appear to be two separate lobbies, so that one almost never starts, and the other doesn't have as many people playing. You can join either one through the Top Rated list on arcade.
Edit: It's really hard to get games now as a result. I've been waiting significantly longer each time.

confirmed. I assumed that either would route to the same lobby but apparently having two entries (rank 7 and 8 for me) on the TOP RATING column actually forms different lobbies.
I've been playing every day, there was one time out of probably 50+ games that it lagged like it did during prev season. That was, I believe the first day that it was fixed.. a strange fluke perhaps
I was playing on the metropolis map of the day map today, and observers cost 100gas. I dont know if there are other problems or if thats the only map, but i figured it should be mentioned.
Good call, Drumhead. That seemed to be an issue with the two new maps I added since 1.5 (Entombed and Metropolis). Should be fixed now. If anyone else notices any unit costs that are not correct for multiplayer, please let me know.
I can't find 'map of the day' any more, only the individual maps. Saw you fixed the /dance, /cheer bug ages ago. Haven't played since then as it annoyed me. GJ :D
It's always been tougher to get games going on EU. It doesn't seem that battle.net reports actual hours played anymore, so unless two maps you're trying to compare are in the top 10, it's impossible to tell which is the most popular. Perhaps someone knows a way to get at this information?
Most popular map at the moment seems to be Daybreak, followed by Ohana. Daybreak lobbies take about 10 minutes to fill up, this wasn't the case when Map of the day was around in EU. I absolutly love this mod, there are plenty other who love it too but I've seen alot less of them since mapoftheday has gone under. Would love to see it's return.
Great thanks man. i'm not sure how often people took the time to vote for the map of the day on the site though, although I guess you'll have that info and I'm probably wrong! I'd always play it unless it was bel'shir beach or something. Maybe you could put it on a random or weekly cycle or something?
*edit*
As an aside thought, is there any way to centralise the mod chat channels? So all the peepmode chat channels go to the same thread as opposed to a different one for each map? Might help player linking etc.
No problem. As for combining chat channels, unfortunately I don't have control over that. Also, I purged all the votes at peepmode.com since it had been a while...things will generally be more random now until people enter more votes at the site.
Does anyone know how I can get my hands on Whirlwind and Abyssal City (esp GSL versions)? I have tried contacting the mapmakers but no response...that was a while ago.
EU map of the day doesn't quite rotate between maps, I know it's a hassle, but maybe just make ohana or daybreak map of the day? metropolis makes alot of people lag, and it's not the funnest map in the pool imo. thanks in advance!
Wow. Fantastic. I just discovered it this week. I must have been living under a rock. I can't wait to get off work and play this again with friends and anyone else who's playin. So fun.
Thanks for all the hard work you put into this Icculus. I will likely donate a little through your peepmode.com site soon.
Hi Icculus. I just tried playing EU with Abyssal City... but I'm getting massive script errors on the map. Everything says PARAM / VALUE 3458U3495873485 etc. I have SS as well if needed.
Sorry, I must have forgotten to localize. For every custom string in the game, a different version is kept for each locale (enUS, enGB, etc) so anytime I add, remove, or modify an in-game string, I have to go through a process called localization before uploading. I'll go ahead and upload Ohana to EU now...I double checked that it's localized.
I was wondering if the inablity to see chat during pause is a known issue, it's kind of annoying you can't tell if u can unpause. Thanks again Icculus!

I can't get a confirmation email lcculus, could you confirm my account for me? I just registered so I can do my best to make sure korhal compound is taken out of the rotation forever.. and ever.
hehe, I was just watching a game where basically everyone in the room was saying Korhal Compound was their favorite map and disappointed it got removed from ladder. I was thinking of removing it from rotation, however.
Anyway, email me at peepmode at gmail and let me know what email address you used to register.
The HotS Beta Editor was just released and so I will begin the process of updating the system for HotS. The map "PeepMode v0.4" currently posted in HotS is *not* up to date and I'm actually unable to remove it...hopefully this glitch will be corrected soon by Blizzard.
Due to various inconsistencies in WoL vs HotS mods (which cannot both be used concurrently), I believe that I'll need to create a different version of PeepMode for HotS. This means clearing out all player achievements and having a separate Peep Rating system just for HotS. I think this makes sense on several levels. If anyone disagrees, please share your thoughts.

I would welcome a reset. A lot of the regular players are to the point where we have thousands of games played and its really hard to move your winrate. Also it would give you an opportunity to wipe all the edited data file players that have been popping up more and more as of late.
EDIT: Apparently there are reports of some players hacking their bank files to gain rating/cash. This shouldn't be possible with Blizzard Bank Signatures. I'll look into the issue.
PeepMode Cloud Kingdom HotS has been published on the Heart of the Swarm Beta server. Limited to 8 players to get more games going. Please check it out if you get a chance and let me know of any bugs you find.
Can you include the new proleague maps in the MOTD rotation/voting?
This would be awesome.
Edit:Also what's going on with the rankings. There are crappy defense games that are way harder to get a game together for that are ranked higher in terms of most played than peepmode. Did blizzard change how this works recently or something?

Since the "Arcade" mode was introduced in SC2, i haven't been able to play this game even once. I join the lobby, but there are no players. Isn't there a "map of the week" game anymore? it used to be a decently popular, like it would start in 1-5 minutes.
Hey guys. Sorry I've been busy with other things lately. I'm aware of the HotS minimap terrain bug and I hope to work on that in the next couple days. I also want to update the WoL version with the new GSL maps if I can get my hands on correct copies. I'll take a look at the proleague maps too.
Unfortunately when Arcade was released, PeepMode started getting a lot of negative reviews. I think a lot of non-hardcore players that weren't aware of the Arcade to begin with tried it and just didn't "get it". They say things like "all I could do was sit and watch"...which is the entire point of being an observer! So unfortunately it just dropped in rankings and therefore gameplay. I'm hoping that HotS release will bring a resurgence, but to be honest with the addition of new observer features in HotS, I'm not sure it will reach the top 10 again. There are features available in PeepMode that will *never* be available in SC2 proper due to technical limitations and balances that Blizzard need to make (such as auto cam, zooming out, betting, separate rating system, etc) but it will be up to the "average player" to decide if PeepMode belongs alongside Nexus Wars in the Arcade or whether it's more of a hardcore esports thing.

I think the trick is to search for 1v1 obs map of the day or something like that. I have it bookmarked and it still fills. It should be like on the 2nd or third page of popular maps too and you can bookmark it. This one still fills relatively fast.

Played a bunch of games last night (VOD here, PeepMode starts around 1h18m30s). The minimap terrain was still black for all of us, and we discovered (timestamp 2h25m45s) that the overlord speed upgrade, once researched, persisted to later games.

After a few more games, we found the same bug persists with hydralisk speed.
Since WoL patch 2.0.4, there are several issues with the maps, most notably text colors and timer placement. I'll be working on this and hopefully fixing within a couple of days.
UPDATE: WoL maps have been fixed with slight aesthetic degradations here and there as tradeoffs. I'm going to be focusing on HotS going forward, which relies on a different set of assets.
Speaking of HotS, I currently cannot publish maps to the beta due to the infamous "region mismatch" bug and the editor crashes my VM ware win7 install, so unfortunately I won't be able to publish the fix for the minimap terrain bug until the game is actually released on March 12

I had the same issue while publishing melee maps. However, logging into Hots itself, then logging in via the editor seemed to fix the issues. If that doesn't fix it however, you have to change regions in the editor settings. You can do this by going file>preferences, then under the Battle.net section there should be a drop down menu labeled Region. Select the AUTHENTICATION_BETA_REGION option. If that doesn't fix it, not sure what else will aside waiting for release. Hope this helps!
Timetwister22: Awesome, that worked, thanks! I published an update to HotS fixing the minimap issue and some upgrade resets.
montheScots: I can see removing Dual Sight, but Abyssal City has been voted up on the website. Not that many people actually vote, but I would like to leave it in for a bit longer. When HotS comes out in a couple weeks, the Map of the Day will be used for HotS maps. The WoL maps will remain playable individually as long as I have enough publish space.
I just published "1v1 Obs HotS" ... I'm not sure if I'm going to unpublish all of the WoL maps (or re-publish them as HotS)...does anyone really care to play WoL anymore or is it a waste to keep those up?
Which maps are on the 1v1 obs hots? my friends and I peepmode 80% of the time we play sc2. I came to this thread just to see if any had been updated for hots. Really appreciate the work you've done IcculusLizard

for the immediate future I think you should disable all of the old WOL ones, cause it can become kind of difficult to sort through the arcade to find the most up-to-date version of peepmode. You could maybe bring them back in a couple of weeks after everyone has bookmarked the new HOTS version, and we get that going with lots of people constantly playing it.
Okay I'll probably take most of the WoL ones offline. Which maps should I add to HotS version? Like what would be an ideal 4 map pool? I plan on expanding and migrating to HotS-only eventually...I don't think there's any reason to support WoL soon.
I'll work on those issues mentioned earlier. The overlord speed thing may be a bug in the editor...I explicitly call the downgrade, but it doesn't seem to take effect. Was true in the Beta as well. The list/channel should be easy to fix.

I would love to see Neo Planet S and Star Station in the map pool I've been playing your maps for more than a year now and it's quite a lot of fun when we play among friends. Thank you very much, kind sir!
Thanks for letting me know about the website. I recently migrated it to a new host and it looks like my DNS got messed up, so it'll take a day or so to get it back up I think. I disabled map voting temporarily anyway since I'm reworking the map pool currently. I should have a few more maps ready this week.
So I'm wondering if folks from EU can simply play PeepMode on NA region since it'll be a lot easier to get more players. EU players, please try that out and let me know if that's workable.
BestWaffelz: That happens to me sometimes too...Try restarting comp and trying again.
So....according to the Editor, I can't use the Swarm Multi dependency with either of the Campaign dependencies, so that means I won't be able to add Advanced Avatars from Heart of the Swarm assets. Sorta bummed about this. I will try to find a workaround.
Is there any way to transfer my stats/unlockable goodies from the WoL version of 1v1 obs to the HotS version? I had over 500 games on the WoL version, now I have none
Hi IcculusLizard, thanks for all the hard work you have been doing. Me and my mates have had hours of fun on the peep mode maps for WoL. The thing is that we play on the EU servers and the lag from our little corner of the world to NA is almost unplayable ;( Is there any way that you could upload the HotS version of this awesome map to EU for us? Thanks again
Hi! First of all, I want to thank you for making this great map, it's one of my favourites ^^ I'm also looking forward to have the HOTS version in EU. I know that I can play in NA but it's not the same due to lag issues and friend list

Unfortunately, the campaign dependencies are not compatible with Swarm multi, unlike Liberty Multi. So the Advanced Avatars would be impossible to carryover. Plus the banks were a mess and I'm saving more properties now, so I had to use new banks. I know it's a bummer, but everyone is in the same boat.
Thanks for getting the HOTS obs up so quickly, any ETA on specific maps for hots getting up on NA server? Any way I can help? gfx designer here. My team uses these maps for practice's all the time and we love peepmode lol.
TheGiftedApe: Which maps do you recommend? I just published a few that I could get my hands on. The limiting factor is that most of them aren't available on bnet and I have had zero luck contacting authors as of late. Not sure if they just don't want modders messing with their maps or what. I could definitely use some graphic design input if you want to contribute. Email me at peepmode at gmail. Thanks!
I had alot of fun playing peepmode in WoL! Is it possible (in EU) to play peepmode HotS yet? I tried finding it a few days ago, couldnt find it. Tried again just now after reading abit, still cant figure it out.

Pretty sure that means "I cannot read chat when game is paused" in jibbrish. Of course you answered this question many times, and anyone who read a bit further back knows it cannot be fixed... sorry Monkey. Icculus can you maybe put the players list in the loading screen? with blizzard's new way to indiciate leagues via the player portrait colors, it can be much easier to know what you're up against without having to check 10 profiles pre-game start. just a thought.
Are there still plans to overhaul the betting system? It'd be nice if these $1 bets weren't allowed to ruin it for not betting for 20+ minutes and trolling the other side's bets or if bet snipers joining in just before the person wins at round 4 or something getting same shares as someone who risked the chance from the beginning.
Well, I would like to improve the betting system but it's an area where I don't have much experience and several competing schemes have been suggested. I guess if I had a very clear design that I knew would work well and would actually improve things, I'd implement it. I'm not sure how to get there, though.
Hello, first of all I want to thank you for such a great map, greatest custom map ever!
I'm sorry if this has been discussed earlier but I haven't found any solutions to my problem. I used to play obs a lot before the new interface change (I think it was patch 1.5 or something), and it ran beatifuly, without lag or stutter or frame drops or anything. I run sc2 at extreme graphics with 60+ fps all the time, so I know I'm not having issues with my computer. Thing is, since the new interface changed, I'm having an issue on peepmode where it would suddenly kind of freeze, maybe not completely, like the units would start moving realllllyyy slowww for some seconds and would be totally unresponsive and then the game would try to "catch up" or resync so the units would move really really fast like incredibly fast for like 1 sec to compensate for the time they were slow and unresponsive. I'm also getting a latency on commands or keys pressed, like if I order a unit to move, it would take the unit about 1 sec or maybe even more to obey the action and move.
I'm only getting this problem in peepmode, I'm not having issues on ladder or unranked or other customs I have played so far, altough I haven't played many customs though... I'm really bummed out because it's totally unplayable for me, I don't even have to playing, I could be observing 2 ppl playing in an obs and start selecting their units or something and the issue would happen.
I already tried popular lag fixes like deleting "C:\program data\blizzard entertainment\starcraft II\ " folder and like running the unit preloader map before playing, nothing has worked for me.
I was wondering if you could give me a recommendation?
Also my internet connection is fine, I have 3 mbps download and 1 mbps upload, like I said, it worked flawlesly before the new interface, I think it was patch 1.5, I'm not too sure, and then it started having this issue. Any help would be much appreciated! thanks a lot!
Wondering if there's any way we could possibly add Fighting Spirit to the map pool since its just so different from the others it might add some variety.
Seems like you have param\value problems in your map as players reported here.
This problem occurs because of incomplete localizations. SC2 now always uses an existing locale in the map, so either keep them up to date or if you just copy every string into every locale, then just use 1 English locale and it will work fine.
I read about the bug that you're telling me about and it makes reference to people who have changed their locale for sc2, I have been using the same language/locale since I installed it and haven't changed it ever since, is there something I'm missing there? or maybe I don't quite understand what's wrong. I also don't get any error message that says param/value problem, should I be getting one if I have the problem I reported earlier?
Sorry about param/value; just forgot to localize after the last update. I'll look into expanding the map pool soon.
MinOpliS: Hmm this is the first I'm hearing about this issue specifically in PeepMode. I know that many people have had issues with slow gameplay since the last few patches. I haven't really changed much code lately so I can't really speculate as to what the issue would be in HotS. I would open a support ticket with Blizzard if you haven't already; I have a feeling it's related to widespread issues that hopefully will be addressed soon.
Thx for the answer, it didn't just happen in HotS, it actually started happening since the new menu interface update, I think it was patch 1.5.something Well I'll try to contact blizzard and see if I get a good answer, thanks.
2v2 is available only on maps that support it. I currently do not have any 2v2 maps published for HotS; that will change in the next couple of weeks though.
I added Ohana and Boneyard (2v2) to the map pool. Boneyard is published as "2v2 Obs HotS" and if I find that players are actually playing this map, I'll swap out new 2v2 maps.
UPDATE: Several key improvements thanks to input from GameHeart creator rschutter. Main improvement: when switching between player vision, structure discovery is correctly conveyed.
I'm not sure why Red City is in the map rotation. Maybe you know the person who made it or are friends, if so that's cool, no problem. I was just thinking of a map rotation that better reflects recent changes to ladder maps, gsl maps, etc
When I saw red city I thought how cool it would be if there was New Fighting Spirit from Proleague. Currently in Proleague, the Korean Map team Team Crux remade the Brood War map Fighting Spirit for Sc2, however, they made some balance tweaks to it and called it 'NEW Fighting Spirit" in the last week or so.
The map generally is not too bad, I think its easier to manage for players of all skill levels then Red City. But I'm not sure how everyone who plays the mod would feel about that.
Otherwise I really like the mod even to this day, thanks for all the work that you do.
I can't find Red City on EU anymore, are you just making adjustments or was it removed for some other reason? Sucks that it's gone now that Red City is in the ladder mappool. Love using peepmode for training on specific maps, in fact I would be ever so grateful if there was one for every map on the ladder!
Yeah I was having trouble updating the code in Red City for some reason and I've been so busy lately with a new job (in the videogame industry! yay!) that I haven't had time to make updates. In all likelihood, it's going to be a few weeks before I'm able to get back to making regular updates to the system, but I'll try to keep maps rotated every few days.
Can the map pool be updated to be only ladder maps & wide-spread tournament maps? Cloud Kingdom really is an awful map, and it feels like it's *always* the one being used.
As an observer map t would be nice to have working hotkeys for the different layers... apm, production, units lost etc. Can you fix that plz or are there funktions I havent discovered?
Hey Icculus, any reason why all the avtar options vanished in the hots version. I was half expecting cool new avatars and now there is even less then before by far .
Sorry I've not been responding to questions in a while
suneshinehero: Unfortunately technical limitations in map spec makes this impossible Drumhead: For technical reasons, I couldn't use avatars from both of the WoL and HotS campaign mods Slydie: Check the Help (F12) for all the hotkeys...you should be able to find what you're looking for there
iHirO: I don't have any plans for this. It would be fairly difficult since each map requires a series of custom configurations including spawn points, faceoff points, and map-specific units. So if the mod itself wasn't prepared for a specific map, it would just bug out. I'm sure I could do better to modularize PeepMode and I will continue to consider this option for the future though.
*EDIT: Well it seems that rschutter has come up with a good way of incorporating map-specific data into the mod itself (http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?topic_id=440694) so this may be easier than I thought. There could still be issues of hacking by using custom maps, though.
Can we take Alt. Stronghold out of the rotation, people never stay in lobby for that map. Just my 2 cents. If there is a big following for that map then nvm.
So i guess there arent enough people playing 2v2 maps in OBS eh?
Every 2nd week, every since i discovered peepmode, my buddies and I use it to play matches against each other. (used to be a pain to recreate matches every time). So we end up being 6-8 people playing 1v1, 2v2 matches while the others watch.
Luxferre: One of the main motivations behind the effort to create PeepMode was supporting 2v2 and "party mode" where a bunch of folks could get into the game and play 1v1's, 2v2's, and FFA's easily. I'm psyched to hear that you're using the mod that way!
Yeah, i was hoping there could be more 2v2 maps... because it can get long and boring for all the other players to play the same map over and over again or to be 4-5 people stuck watching the others battle it out ;p
PeepMode is awesome! I stayed up way too late last night playing and watching people play using PeepMode. A couple of the people were streaming as well. Keep up the good work!
Luxferre: Can you suggest one or two 2v2 maps that are more on the "timeless" side? I don't mind spending the time of creating them if they are enjoyed by enough people.
jake1138: Thanks, I appreciate it!
UPDATE New maps added to pool: Catallena, Deadwing, Foxtrot, Nimbus
hey, it seems to me that only infernal pools is an actual map what can be played with peep mode right? would it be possible to make another map from the current map pool as well? like vaani research station or deadwing? or did i miss something and these can be plaed already with this 1v1 obs - peep mode?
Veritoss: All of the maps you mentioned should now be available stand-alone (search for "PeepMode" in the Arcade) as well as being swapped out on a semi-daily basis into the 1v1 Obs Hots slot.
PeepMode for LotV has been released. You can play the test map under the name "1v1 Obs LotV" in all English speaking regions. Please report bugs; fixes will be issued as quickly as possible.
First time caller long time listener: just wanted to show some support for this amazing mod. Truly a blessing for those with ladder anxiety and a good place to learn what diamond/masters are doing. It's very well coded and haven't had any issues without simple fixes and i love the betting/bling shop aspect.
Thank you again! And one question: when does the map rotate for this mod (NA)? Is it done randomly by someone or set to some schedule? Sometimes it seems every day and sometimes not.
Avexyli Yes it's the ladder pool acommunistspy1 I try to rotate the map daily (or more if I'm debugging) but sometimes I'm busy or forget to rotate it. I've tried to automate this process, but it's proven to be pretty tricky since there's no publishing API and unpredictable things happen while publishing fairly frequently.
When you a building selected and click on the portrait to center the camera, the camera is a bit offcenter from the building. I use this for camera location hotkeys on cc/hatchs/nexus. Happened when the map was on Ulrena, not sure if constant throughout.

its actually the same for me. I think it's a bug. i use the "center on current" selection hotkey, it didnt work...
Has anyone using the core hotkey setup seen that this map messes with those hotkeys. I.E. it intercepts some of the hotkeys and performs other actions. Do you guys know if there is a way to avoid this?
Please fix the camera, the selection is actually not centered vertically, i use camera hotkeys and this problem is bugging me, really it's the only reason i don't play this mode much.
The distance should be equal from the top of the screen, to the selection and from the top of the UI to the selection. Not from the top of the screen, to the selection and from the bottom of the screen to the selection. I don't know if it makes sense.

Yes this one bothers me a lot, also i've realized that on Dusk Towers, all my workers start rally is not to the center mineral patch but the one on the edge.
The camera issue has been fixed. However, the latest patch seems to have really messed with various aspects of the system. Trying to find solutions for adding new ladder maps to the pool.
I understand there is a bug after the latest patch where only 7 people can join at a time. I am currently traveling but will take a look at the bug next week. Sorry for the delay.
I'm also looking for other mapmakers/modders to help me maintain this project. Unfortunately I can't put in the necessary time like I used to in order to keep the quality high. Please email me at peepmode at gmail if you're interested. Thanks.
If this is not a dead project (which i hope its not), is there anyway we can get some of the new maps updated. Mainly Blackpink, Catalyst, and Neon Violet Sqaure since Battle of the Boardwalk is already updated.
And as someone who enjoys peepmode very much, I think it would be awesome to be able to use the sc2 emotes while in game.
