MotM September is here. After the recent success of MotM ProAm, we've decided to try yet another competition that is slightly out of the ordinary. This month will feature a normal map submission/judging process, but afterwards there will be a $400 open-tournament on the top five maps, with commentary by ROOTAxeltoss!
Submissions
For everybody wishing to participate in this months competition, please submit your maps in this thread and email the map file to submit.motm[at]gmail. We will be accepting only one map per entrant. Submissions will close Monday, September 10th. Use the following format to post your maps here:
The panel of judges will begin choosing the top five once submissions close. At that time we will also start the open-sign ups via Playhem. Any player of any skill level will be allowed to participate in the tournament, up to a maximum of 64 players (depending on how many players sign up). Then once the maps are chosen, the tournament will be played. Shortly afterwards, Ro16 and onward replays will be casted by ROOTAxeltoss.
From my experience running the Mapper's Monthly I would suggest making a thread under tournaments if not now do it once the map pool is settled. Also if you didn't know about this: http://www.teamliquid.net/tournaments/submit.php You should make an entry as well. I should let you know that I cancel Mapper'e due to me being too busy but if you need any advice I did pick up on a few things, and I would be happy to help you out! Good luck I really hope to see this do well!

An anonymous person who wants to help motm. Many thanks to them, but I can't say who it is.

Thanks! I'll definitely do both when the time comes.
This is awesome! I will definitely be submitting a map. Be sure to promote the hell out of it, we want as many player signups as possible to get the most and best quality games we can on these maps.
@monitor, think I suggested this before, but maybe you guys want to set up a proper page for MotM with a donation-option. I dont mind donating $20 every month to the pricepool to give this tournament a little boost. And im pretty sure that there are more like me that dont mind doing the same thing.

who are the judges?
The final judge panel hasn't been decided as of yet.

Good to know. That would be awesome! I/We may try something like that in the future.

Yes, it will be held on the NA server. Sorry I forgot to mention that!
ah well... I will still watch it even though I can't play. I hope Blizzard will see it and maybe use one of the maps for ladder you should publish it at much as you can! I will start helping with that right now
As of right now, all of the prize money is going towards the tournament so we can try to attract the biggest names. I can bring it up with the staff this month though.

I know we aren't supposed to just quote things if we don't have anything new to say. But This is something you need to know that more people support. And I support this. Having solid Maps is OBVIOUSLY very very important for the competitive scene. I'm sure everyone will agree.
I would definitely be up for helping to foster the map creation by supporting it directly. I think some of the proceeds should go to the poeple creating these fine maps, not just the people playtesting. But we wouldnt know if maps are truly solid unless we have them tested, so some money should go to players too. Essentially we need more money. I'm sure people would be willing to donate to this cause. All I want to know, is.. how can we make this happen?
Are hots textures even allowed? I mean, I imagine the maps need to be playable on wol and using hots textures on that is probably not allowed by blizz.

As long as they're published in WoL, I think its fine. I doubt Blizzard would be mad.

There are no data-related assets whatsoever from HotS on the map, it's just an export/import of the textures, thanks to Mereel's mappack. If Blizzard acts to shut it down, I'll take it down, redo the aesthetic, and put it back, but it doesn't change any gameplay, so it's hopefully fine.
Alder Promenade by: wrl 154x154 warning: Aesthetics are not complete, but in progress. Hoping to have them done this week.
Description: Alder Promenade is a 4P Rotational&Reflection map with all spawns enabled. What sets it apart is that it has double the amount of spawn variations of any active competitive 4p map. Typical 4P maps have 3 spawn variations, Alder Promenade has 6! Can you name them all?
Submissions are now closed. The judges for this month will be myself, Plexa, and Nightmarjoo.
I've been really busy of the past few days so I haven't had much time to dedicate to getting the judging process or tournament sign ups rolling just yet. But I will! It is just going to be a few days later than I planned.
Note: The prize pool will be staying 100% for the tournament for this month. The problem is that we don't want to split $100+ dollars between the five top mapmakers and sacrifice not getting as high quality players for the tournament. The biggest prize for mapmakers will just be getting your map played by pros and casted by Axeltoss.

That's prize enough for me, and anyway, this community's still at the point where we need to focus less on money and more on general awareness. Anyway, look forward to the results!
I'd rather the money go toward the tournament anyway. Pretty sure getting hard-to-acquire play data from high-level players has more value than a fraction of ~$100 prize for mappers.

Unless you're starving, I think it's cooler to have a big name player play your map and get no money then get a little $ and only have nobody masters play on it. So I agree.
Yeah, most mapmakers probably don't give a crap about money, they just want their map played in tournaments. Seeing a lot of these newer maps really makes me want to sit down and create something new rather then just tweaking old maps.
ps
Monitor, let's get these results and this tournament rolling, I wanna see some games!
Judging process has started finally, and I'm going to have to work on the tournament stuff soon. I just don't have much time, but I promise it will happen. Sorry about the delay!

Are any changes allowed to be made to a map / would they be taken into consideration for the judging, even though it's past the deadline? Not sure if my map actually has a chance or not, but I was considering making a change to the middle of Yog's Winter.

Given that we're hitting the 20th tomorrow, I was wondering if there was a date set for the tournament yet. I haven't seen any information on it re: registration and participation.

I'll have time to get the tourney started this weekend, I promise.
