In the sense that it's a turn based tactics game. Different in that in Rogue Star you control a single character with RPG elements (equipment, skill trees, leveling).
It is awesome! It isn't really a roguelike though. Just a really polished RPG. Or will the roguelike part come later? And arrgh! Prologue was short and easy, but still very fun! Want more!
A few minor bugs I found (since you seem the perfectionist type!): At the first bridge, it asked me if I wanted to activate the power crystal. I said no, but it apparently activated it anyway. I forgot to test the second bridge. Your ally can walk through all doodads, which is slightly weird. I guess this is a design decision though? Right clicking probe buildings outside of combat makes your character do the combat animation, but does not kill the building. In one battle, it said I had exactly 40 energy but I was unable to cast corrupt. EDIT: This was on the boss fight. I might have been debuffed? I did not check. Lightning Blade says "20% damage to Zerg". Should be +20% damage?
You're right on the roguelike bit- I meant to edit the first post- I will eventually be adding a "roguelike" mode with a randomly generated dungeon, enemies, and items (and permadeath), but that's quite a ways away.
In the next week or two I'll be adding the second half of Chapter 1 (the first half being the prologue)- most of the content is done I just didn't have time to perfect it before the contest deadline.
1. Whoops on the bridge.I swear I validated that. oops. 2. But left clicking still kills the building yes? Otherwise that would be really bad. 3. Ah, I perhaps you had 39.6 energy and it was a rounding error. Or wait, corrupt costs 35. Hmm... 4. I'm not sure. I based my tooltips off of D3
Thanks again for the feedback, and be sure to check back in a week or two!
Hey! First off, I really Rogue Star a lot and have enjoyed the story so far.
I found something odd in the game, though. When you are in the temple, there is a chance that you find a room with a void stone in it. After picking it up and leaving the room (exit's on the right), the screen goes dark and you can't do anything but reload the game. Aren't we supposed to pick it up at all or is it just a bug?
This is a bug caused by finding the treasure room by accident (there's a specific path that can be taken to find the treasure room without bugging out) and has been fixed for the next version- which should be live next week and include the rest of the first story arc.
First off, I love to say that I'm eager to see the future parts to this map.
The first bug I encountered was the unlimited amount of items I could pick up. What I mean is, are the stones that you are able to pick up after destroying the rocks. When I exit and re-enter, they respawn, just the items. This went away after I quit and rejoined.
Next, is the 2nd bridge that requires a power crystal. To me, it shows it's already in place, but the bridge is not functioning, and 2) I do not remember putting a crystal there the initial game I played, nor am I able to find the second one. I have spent a lengthy period looking for it, and it's nowhere to be found. True, I could just be skipping it, but there are no more enemies to kill or anywhere to find this crystal.
Other than those, it's pretty cool, and I'd love to play some more in the future.
Edit: I started all over, and here is what I found. On my initial game, it is now fully screwed. I can't cross the bridge to the end, since my initial time through either the power crystal was missing, or I picked it up and then something screwy happened, but right now, it shows the power crystal is on the bridge, but there's no bridge, and the crystal can not be found where it's supposed to be.
Second, on the new game I made, the forge is broken. I first entered the fog, died, respawned, and it allowed me to buy the highest level of equipment on that forge, even though I didn't unlock it, if you can unlock it. After that, I fought the boss, died, and now I can't buy anything from the forge, and it's stuck like that. There should be a save crystal or something. It would be helpful for those who are stuck, or think they are, to have a mission objectives checklist so they know if they are ready for the next area, or missing 1 quest item.
Rogue Star Chapter 1 has been released (which is a continuation of the prologue). New items, enemies, and bosses! Coinciding with the new content release I've launched a Patreon- check it out if you're interested in directly supporting the mod.
I am really enjoying it after playing for about an hour and will recommend it to my friends. Great work!
But I'm afraid I'm stuck. I think I cleared all the heretics and have returned to the atrium. I am now in the never-ending maze, but I can't find a way out. Can anyone help me out?
Edit: I watched the trailer and in it the bridge is activated by a crystal, but I don't seem to have it, even though I checked pretty thoroughly. I guess I will have to re-play and see if I can find it. :/
Edit 2: No longer stuck. I clicked on the crystal a few times before, but I didn't pick it up for reason so I thought it was nothing. I probably just slightly clicked outside the hitbox of the crystal a couple of times until I walked back and tried again for the third time. My mistake.
Final edit: I've finished episode 1. Something that really bugged me was the follower. He would constantly walk in front of me and block my path. Having him walk behind you would make him a lot less annoying. Also, it was a bit too easy. And too short. Hopefully episode 2 will have more content and will be slightly more difficult. But like I said before, overall it was very enjoyable, looking forward to episode 2!
