About: Heyo! Arcade Play is a show that aims to get people involved and playing all the magnificent custom maps within the Arcade and to bring light to lesser known custom games and personalities that play these games. Each episode, viewers, guests, and I play a selected Arcade game for about 2 hours and I would really appreciate it if you could join us! A few episodes have already aired, with the most recent being Unreal Freeze Tag! What I'd really love, though, is to have you participate in the next live show!
Show's Flyer:
Details: Arcade Play streams live from Twitch.tv/SCMothership frequently, @ 2pm-6pm PST (GMT-8). I will update information here about guests, which game we will be playing, and any potential schedule changes. In order to join us in the actual game when the show goes live, it helps to be in the stream chat, and is mandatory that you enter the Group Chat: "Arcade Play" so we can invite you to the lobby! During the show, invited guests will be on skype with me as we play the game of the week. Throughout, and at the end of the show, we give our opinions on the map and highlight the positives and negatives to hopefully give developers something to work with! So far guests have included: Content Creator/Caster - Feardragon, Content Creator/Caster - JaKaTaK, Content Creator/Caster - Rageypoo, Caster - Draven, GM Terran Player/Streamer - LovE, and, Map Creators - Bounty & Johnphobia with many more special guests planned!
I hope that this show will become a stable slot for people to play a variety of Arcade games with lobbies full of friends, and to also give map makers some constructive critisism, as well as help would-be map makers learn key lessons in game design!
Thanks for reading! Any feedback, ideas for the show, custom games we should play, or comments are appreciated, and actually craved, so I'd love to hear from you! ~SCMothership

Hey, how do you pick maps? Do people send them in and you pick from there, or do you just pick random popular ones?
|
I would love to be a part of this sometime. Unfortunately I'll be absent next friday, but the one after that I might be able to join in.

Yeah, haha, I kind of just decide. If you have a suggestion, I am always open to them, but make sure to tell me about the game and why I should play it, not just the name.

Yup! The show is typically on Thursdays, every week, barring complications like Thanksgiving this week. Next week's show, unfortunately, happens to be canceled due to IEM San Jose, which I will be gone away to. The week after that might not be on Thursday either, because I am helping out with a school's debate tournament, haha so check back here the week before, or so, for the correct date/time.

If you have a suggestion, I am always open to them, but make sure to tell me about the game and why I should play it, not just the name. I do, actually. My own map, Worm War. I've done a lot of research into what makes an arcade map so replayable and fun with groups, and I think I've really nailed it with my map, but nobody's ever really played it because nobody has ever been exposed, besides the groups of friends I've had play it together.
It's a 12 player (even three players is fun though) map like the Warcraft 3 map from Blizzard with the same name. It's essentially a giant multiplayer game of Snake, where you eat Karaks that run around the map in order to make your worm longer. The first person to 100 segments wins. You have to also avoid running into the worms of other people, and try and cut off those that are beating you.
Random powerups spawn in the middle of the map that give you certain boosts, like a speed boost, or a powerup that allows you to eat the archons running around the powerup zone that normally kill you when you run into them (they were Fire Lords in the WC3 version) for extra segments.
The entire map plays Starcraft-themed music parodies while playing, and is entirely mouse-controlled. You never stop moving, and simply turn the mouse in a third person perspective to turn left and right. It works really well and feels great, unlike many of the third person shooters out there.
It needs a little tweaking right now, because I've run into some bugs, but it should be ready by the time your next show comes along.
I believe there's a version published on US right now, but I don't know if it's the most recent version. It should be but I'm not sure.

Hi SCMothership,
I would like to suggest my Auto Squads map. It's a game that aims to be easy to play but comes with plenty of depth and fun/interesting choices. You can check here or sc2mapster for more info.
Not only will this be an additional fun game for the group but every bit of feedback (either in arcade review, here, one of the links in this post, or somewhere else you prefer but you tell me where) brings me one step closer to improving and completing that project.
I may be able to join your arcade play at times. I hope your Arcade Play goes well!
Thanks.

You should come get your butt kicked at Kobold Tribes. Let me know if we can arrange something. The map creator is about to put out an awesome new patch we have been beta testing for a couple weeks now, and our inhouse group has been picking up steam again. I have gotten a good response from out little community when I have streamed in the past, so I can advertise with my fellow Kobolds if you decide to pick up our game. XD

Thanks for the well wishes, and thanks for the map suggestion. Seems pretty simple and easy to pick up! I will definitely look into this game, as being easy to grasp is a definitely plus for getting new players into the Arcade.

Kobold Tribes is awesome, so yeah! I would love to have an episode of Arcade Play be dedicated to the game. We should definitely work to get a night arranged for everyone to play and do a show once the update is released. =)

Cool, I'll let my crew know of next week's stream so we will never run short of new faces at the event and on Twitch.
