Hydra did this quite a bit in the just concluded WCS tournament, I believe His style is a bit unique, going for a really early lair and not getting a baneling nest until later.
Question re: Battlenet interface -
When you are looking at a player on your friends list, does the green "SC" letters next to them mean they are actually in a game (loadup screen or playing), or could they be just searching for a game and not matched with an opponent yet? What is the difference between red and green SC lettering?

Hello, my simple question is this:
Is a ramp accessible by a reaper inevitably also accessible via blink? Are there some places where these two things do not overlap? Thank you!
|
A place is accessible to a blink stalker if it is within blink range, if you have vision of it and if it provides enough space for a stalker. Unlike with reapers, it doesn't matter what exactly is in between (it really is a teleport).
Since a reaper is smaller than a stalker, it's probably possible to make a map with a spot that is accessible to a reaper, but too small for a stalker. In that case, a reaper could go somewhere where a stalker can't.

I quit playing a season or two after heart of the swarm came out. I play toss. Could someone give me a quick explanation of the current meta?

With the WCS observer overlay, how do you select a unit to see its status (health/shields, etc.), and how do you turn on the upgrade countdown?

Could someone give me a quick explanation of the current meta? 3 base +2 blink stalker/sentry is the bread and butter pvz style because it's extremely versatile and is able to quickly put on pressure or fall back and transition based on constant hallucinated phoenix scouting and forcefield/blink micro, which usually pushes out a lot of roach/hydra from zerg. a lot of pvz these days are army-heavy 3 base brawlers that go from stalker/sentry vs roach/hydra into roach/hydra/viper vs gateway/colossus. lategame is about to blow up because there was just a massive balance patch to swarm hosts and tempests so there is no meta for that anymore.
can't help as much for pvp and pvt as a zerg player but in pvt the terran meta seems to be lots of widow mine drops to force a good defense from toss and mess up mining into your typical 3 base bio army trying to drop and deny bases. blink into robo or defensive robo are popular because widow mine drops can be so strong and it's deadly to fall behind terran before the midgame. DT drops can be a pretty strong strategy (wait for terran to move out, then fly into the main with DT). you can allin off of blink pressure sometimes too. oracle is less popular than it was at the beginning of hots but viable. some people try phoenix. no matter how you open you have to go colossus before templar unless you're trying to meta trick your opponent. i think the "standard" versatile opener in pvp is 3 gate blink and adapt but pvp is a build clusterfuck, you can do lots of things

I've noticed lately that when I look at other player's profiles and match histories in Battlenet, very often I see a "Could not find match entry" error message when trying to look at the record of a match (build order etc.). This didn't seem like much of a thing in the past but now it's quite frequent, including I think with some of my own matches. Does this signify some kind of wonkiness with my connection to Battlenet?

No, it's a bug on Blizzard's side and effects everyone. All we can do is hope they'll fix it (again ...).

They've postponed S2 start a day... again. Why are they doing this? Does anyone know?

I generally agree with brickrd's reply for a general semi-macro protoss. I will also note that I've seen more protoss going for storm drops in general. However, as your question varies considerably, there are some notable differences across the match-ups. PvP: the old mantra of "he who expands first dies" has tamed down a bit in this match-up, but PvP is still one of the most, if not the most, volatile. This is largely because orcles and dts are the two primary early aggression openers, which can just straight-up kill you if you don't have your stalkers where they need to be. That being said, many have chosen to use Zest's dt drop as safe opening with macro potential. PvT: With the recent widow mine buff, this has become a difficult matchup for the protoss. As a result, it's regressed into the WoL progression of collosi into templar. Some have experimented with templar openings with varying levels of success. Key things to have in play in the early game would be a stalker or ms core for the reaper and detection by 6 min since widow mine drops have become very common. Personally, I've begun adapting nontraditional builds for this match-up like a delayed dt drop for more econ, much the same as many use delayed oracles for scouting. PvZ: basically what brickrd said to add to this, I've seen a lot of nexus first because zerg don't have a lot of early game options, so they econ hard. essentially, most toss go for a 2 base or 3 base all-in it seems because the zerg remax w/tech switch is too fast.

I'm guessing this is a result of the WCS qualifier. Last season started halfway through the qualifiers. The days were recently announced, so it appears they moved the start of the next season to coincide with them in like manner to last season. This means a lot to daimond/masters, as it gives them the latter half of the qualifiers to try for if they do well on their placement. It also protects those that have maintained their master status prior to the ladder lock.

I have an odd issue. The last couple days I've been losing tons of games and I've had trouble with hotkeying units. After wondering what my issue is I somehow realised that my ctrl+shift+1 key (the hotkey I use to add my units to my main army hotkey), is broken. For whatever reason I can still ctrl+shift with any other hotkey and there is no issue. I checked thoroughly through the menu to try to find the issue but everything seems to be normal.
It's very odd and I'm wondering if anyone has had the same problem or has any idea how to fix it.
P.S. Yes i have unbound and rebound all the related hotkeys multiple times.

When I watch replay with others (my friends creating the game) where does the replay gets stored? I want to rewatch some builds my friend showed me the other day.
|
afaik it doesn't get saved, with the exception of using the continue from replay function, which will generate a new replay of that game.

Is there any purpose to assigning your town hall to all control groups 1-10 at the start of the game? I'm assuming it's just a habit/apm thing, but I've noticed people doing it since BW.

i think its your windows hotkeys that use ctrl+shift+1 for some windows shortcut. Check your windows hotkeys.

The actual save file is in: C:\Documents\StarCraft II\Accounts\[number]\[other]\Replays
You can also go to your recent games tab in game, download the replay (if you haven't already) and press "watch replay". I suggest to turn on the ability to auto save replays so you don't have to download them in the future.

No other purpose than to spam for APM. Later on in the game players will replace the hotkeys with ones that are beneficial.
Fun fact, Liquid' Hero afaik hotkeys his msc 3-9 at the start of the game!
