With limited time and rather then learning 3 good builds per match up, I was looking for a "reasonable" single build that is adaptable. I am thinking 1 1 1 expand. Would this be ok up to gold/plat? Or should I just mass marine each game?

I went 3 base terran and was on similar supply and upgrades when the two armies fought. The zerg was able to push through with the DPS dealers (Hydras) and I didnt stand a chance. Seeing that my army evaporated so quickly against roach hydra. Is there particular tweaks that terran must do versus roach hydra? 1) Composition 2) Could have dropped more? http://drop.sc/388296 Thanks

Tanks suck against ling/bane/muta these days, but they still have a place in TvZ. 2 factories pumping out tanks, and if the Zerg tries to switch over to muta (lol good luck after dedicating to 2/2 roach/hydra) you can just switch a factory onto a reactor and do standard bio/mine. More realistically, you want to watch out for the hive transition, since viper's blinding cloud will disable your tanks and let the roach/hydra wreck everything.

With limited time and rather then learning 3 good builds per match up, I was looking for a "reasonable" single build that is adaptable. I am thinking 1 1 1 expand. Would this be ok up to gold/plat? Or should I just mass marine each game? The only build that is kinda reasonnable against everything is reaper expand. Nevertheless it will need some changes here and there to adapt to the race you're facing and you have to know that it's not that good against Terran these days cause the meta has heavlily shifted toward gaz first and reapers are not very good at dealing with the gaz first builds. A 1 1 1 all-in may work against all race till gold but I'm not sure. I don't how long was your break, but nowadays the gold league has much bigger numbers that back in WoL which means you can face better players in plat/gold leagues than back in the days. So your builds need to be decent if you want to go up to plat. Good learning builds to get to plat are imho (but it's mostly a question of personal taste) : - vs T : 12 rax 15 gaz reactor expand into 1/1/1. It's safe against any early agression and very versatile : you can be agressive, you can be defensive, you can go bio, you can mech, ... - vs P : reaper expand into 3 rax, into facto/spatio into 5 rax, into a big scv pull when you have +1/+1, stim shield and medivacs. It's not the most elegant build, but it's cool to learn the match up and should be ok to get to gold and maybe plat... - vs Z : you can go reaper expand into hellbat pressure (with medivacs or banshees) into whatever you wants if your opponent is still alive. Or if you like late game stuff, go for CC first into mech or bio. all these build are wether on the first page of this thread, or not too far away. If you don't want to go crazy with apm and multitask at first, go for mech vs T and Z, it'll be easier to focus on your macro and hit strong timings.

It's never a good idea to let a zerg alone for taht long, and you're completly missing what is happening in this game. The first time you go on his side of the map is at 12 minutes with your 2 medivacs, to a third that doesn't even exist because he took the other third - and the gold on top of that and it's too late to contest it. And only at that point you realize he's massing roaches. With better intel you could have had better reactions. 3 - His macro was not so good, he had forgotten hydra range and had like 2 k mins floating all the time : imho he could have punished you earlier and harder. 4 - now the fight : really it's not that bad, you both kill a lot of units, and if you had fought near you mines (he had no detection, but your mines where way behind you) and had used your hellbats efficiently (they where stuck in the back and their poor range didn't allow them to hit anything) you may have been able to win that battle (again, he had no hydra range so his position was bad too). Really you just needed a few changes to be perfectly fine. 5 - so really you're not that far. what you missed is : -proper scouting to anticipate this -positionning of your army in a better way - add 3-4 tanks to protect your surrondings (I'm personnaly not a fan of mass tanks against roach hydra after having gone ful bio, but some people differ). Be ready to produce mass tanks though, just in case he goes for swarhosts. - the best units vs roach hydra is the marauder imho, go test army composition on "hots unit tester online" map to see this in action, you had almost enough to counter him, if you had scouted you would have made more techlabs on barracks and thus you would have killed him. - last, drops. drop marines mostly (you need your marauders with your main army) but above all, have mutiple drops hitting at the same time. if it's just one medivac in his mineral line, it's be easy for him to kill it and it's useless. you want to out multitask him. Like drop main and natural, and hit the 4th with you marauders army when he's out of position. hope this helps

I was inspired by Morrow who does this build a lot on his stream. My question is: should I abandon my plan once I scout Zerg mining more than 100 gas early or taking very late third? Usually it means some roach bane all in and I start to make bunkers and tanks or banshees to prepare for their push. However few times they surprised me and played normal macro out of this which put me really behind economically. I'm asking mostly because I'm curious how much delaying 3rd base and/or mining a lot of gas early affects Zerg. How do I respond to this? The short answer is that making a bunch of units puts Zerg behind economically in the short run, but they often play either extremely greedy as a follow up or do another timing / go all-in. If you play too passively, Zerg might get a booming economy and overrun you. If you take your third / counter push too aggressively, Zerg might destroy your army with their own on open ground. So you just need to scout / use some non-committed drops to see what they're doing and respond accordingly. edit: And you dont necessarily need to not make Hellbats vs a roach / roach baneling timing, see Heart vs Hyun WCS AM Season 3 Semifinals Game 4. edit:edit: + Show Spoiler [VOD] + Starts at 1:05:06
