hey guys,
I need help in ZvP.
I usually get a fairly quick 3rd, (like pool hatch queen queen 3rd hatch) both vs FFE and gateway first but then I have trouble defending it against the little pressure the P usually sends my way.(mostly vs gate first) Most of the time it s a 3/4 gate zealot sentry MsC push that hits around 7min, sometimes before, sometimes a bit after. I usually dont even have any roaches and my zerglings get absolutely crushed.
So here is the question: how do you defend a 3rd vs gateway first and FFE? I know FFE will delay the attack by about a minute so I have roaches then but I usually just screw up anyways. I think my BO is outdated and unrefined. I usually have about 4 5 drones at my 3rd only when that hits and about 16 lings
Thanks a million!

SC2John's guide to ZvP offers a bit on the subject:
Against gateway expansion, your first priority is finding out if you're going to be facing heavy warpgate pressure very early or whether you'll be dealing with a more gradual approach to aggression. When your opponent ends up with an early forge in his natural wall, you can feel safe in knowing that heavy warpgate aggression will not be coming your way until after about 8:00, though there are still a few pokes with sentries around 6:30-7:00 (known as “the NonY build”) that you need to be aware of and respond to with ten to fourteen lings and a few queens. With this configuration, Protoss has invested into early tech and simply cannot have the money to add additional gateways and commit to an attack at the same time as teching. However, this sets up stronger mid games and makes two base attacks much scarier.
If you scout a total of three to four gateways, it's likely your opponent is going for some sort of warpgate pressure, usually in the form of zealots. The primary purpose of these builds is for the Protoss player to do some sort of damage at your third base and/or force out a lot of units while they get to two base saturation and a fairly equal economy. Ideally, the best way to handle fast warp gate pressure is to have excellent vision coverage with overlords and zerglings and build around twelve zerglings at 6:00 to deny any proxy pylons from going down. If the pylon does go down, speed, often times, will have just finished and you can make ~30 lings to defend. Against more aggressive variants such as the Sangate, you'll need emergency roaches in order to hold off the attack. Roaches are also needed if you missed the pylon and were unprepared for the aggression. In order to deal with the Sangate, just make a roach warren between 5:30-6:00, as soon as possible, and go up to two gases (putting drones back on to gas if you went early speed).
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/sc2-strategy/467244-tl-strategy-presents-scouting-in-zvp#vsgatefe
I don't know much about how to deal with Protoss builds, but if you want to defend your third hatch against a 4 gate, you can't have many drones in your natural, or you'll simply not have enough lings to deal with the zealots. 16 + 8 drones already support steady ling production from three bases, and that's even assuming constant injects on all hatches. If you're going emergency roaches, you need two gases and hence a few more drones.
Zealot attacks from FFE are really old school, though, and easy to stop with roaches and 2 base saturation (roach warren at 6:30 versus an FFE Protoss without gases at his natural). You actually need the roaches, though, because of +1 on the zealots; zerglings do hardly anything against those.

As a first thought, one thing that I believe makes it hard for you to begin with is that you get 2 queens very early with a 3rd base. You need a ton of minerals to afford all of that and cannot really go gas fast, so you cannot have ling speed. Or you are screwing your economy to get ling speed too and you will notice you cannot really use all the larva from your double injects.
Against Gateway Expand type of play I'm not 100% sure of the timings I'm using, because it depends a lot on what I scout but like you I'm trying to get a third base up very quickly. But my general thought process in killing gateway pressure is that: from starting an extractor to finished zergling speed it is ~3:30min, so you either have an extractor starting at latest around 4:00, probably even earlier. But with that fast of a gas (started before the extra gateways come down), taking a third really fast isn't really economical. So what I rather do is that I'm going for something like a 4:30 or 5min gas and when I identify the gateway pressure/allin I build a roach warren around 5mins as well, which takes only 1min to complete. From there with good micro of roach/queen with slowling support on creep these sort of attacks should be stopable. Also, don't be afraid to have your saturation really low against these sorts of attacks. A Protoss sacrifices a lot of economy (chronoboosting the warpgate) and tech (only 1gas, no tech besides warpgate, no upgrades) in doing so. As long as you are building a costefficient army against what he is building, it is ok to be on equal mining (25-30drones).
Against FFE I usually try to go for the very WoL-ish opening with 1queen 3 hatches (the third one between 18 and 21supply) add your next two queens once you realize you are getting low on larva (so basically have the mindset that drones are better than queens early) gasless until exactly 6:00 (start 2extractors) and also start your roach warren around that time stay as low as possible on zerglings and if some 1-3 zealot moveout comes along, try to deal with it through queen micro and at most 2pairs of lings per zealot this opening gives you enough flexibility to either: - tech to lair with your first 100gas (opponent relatively passive or going for a delayed allin like 2base blink or immortal/sentry) - get zergling speed with your first 100gas (always nice to have, especially if you plan on not playing very roachheavy in the midame) - get roaches in case of immidiate warpgate pressure
alternatively you can take your gas(es) a little earlier to get a faster ling speed or roaches up to pressure if your opponent looks like he is expanding, but be aware that cuts into your economy and tech a little bit

More self-BM at the end of these replays though, I think my mindset is the biggest thing holding me back but also my complete lack of multitasking skills and horrible horrible control also screw me over. Oh and lack of game knowledge, someone who watches as much as me should know a thing or two but not really I'm quite dumb actually. I'm pretty sure gold league is my peak tbh, I don't actually feel like I CAN improve past this point I think the only thing is to fix your mindset somehow. It's literally impossible to get better at this game if you're feeling as negative as you seem to be. I was the exact same way. I raged/BM'd after every loss, even my wins didn't feel good b/c I felt I was "supposed" to win. Hahaha. And this was when I was just in Plat/Diamond in WoL! I didn't realize how shitty I was in comparison to actually good players that I was trying to emulate until I went to a live tournament.
At that point, I thought, "I'm not good enough to play this way yet, so why do I expect myself to? I'll improve at my own rate." I resolved then to just be positive, study my replays, do micro battles, and never ever BM. I literally remember myself clutching my hands after games so I wouldn't type anything at my opponent. Starcraft is such a harsh game to improve in because (esp. in SC2) the interface and everything is so... lonely. It feels like it's just you against the world of cheesers and maphackers and whoever else.
You have to be positive man. I know it sounds like some cheesy advice, but it's really all you can do. Your multitasking physically cannot improve unless you mentally think it can. The human body doesn't work that way. You aren't going to hit Abducts that you're telling yourself subconsciously that you won't hit. I know the easy way out "Protoss bullshit" "Play a real race", I've been there more times than I can count. But man, if everyone played Zerg as well, this game would be so boring lol. I don't post on here as much as I used to but someone with your post count and post frequency is clearly watching enough SC2 to improve and learn from what he sees. I've noticed your posts in LRs as well and you know what you're talking about. So the only obstacle is yourself.
It's hard. Maybe play with music on that makes you happy instead of game sounds so you're slightly more positive? (this also helps with your drop/minimap awareness so you aren't reliant on game alerts). I know you said you don't want advice but I'll continue giving it if you ask because I know just how you feel.

Hi, when going 2 base speed into 5:30 3rd base against 3-4 gate pressure usually you make a bunch of lings at around 30 drones to delay his push and add in a few more drones and a roach warren if he continues pushing. I'm wondering if someone knows a strategy to hold off that kind of prolonged aggression without getting roaches. I'm a big fan of ling+hydra/upgraded lings and i allready know 2 base builds however i want to know if there is a way to go for 3 bases without roaches against theses pressure builds that could work at masters+.

Depends, some old grandmasters from WoL (low gm) are now hovering in diamond. I wouldn't say an old masters player would be down to gold level but probably would be plat or low diamond. Unless you got masters when it first came out in WoL then quit, in which case you probably are gold.

I'm usually doing 15h 16g 15p on longer maps and 15h, 15p, 17g on shorter maps. And gasless on Expedition Lost because there are no reaper jumping spots. And then 4-6zerglings the moment the pool finishes. Bunkers are evil though, but since I'm not encountering them too often I'm not sure how to react to them exactly. In any case, I always scout for them, which might be why terrans don't even attempt them.
