Hello everybody, I have a question regarding the standard 14 pool build on this guide from liquipedia from Glon:
http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Glon's_Guide_to_Zerg_vs._Zerg#Standard_14_Pool
the build has a 17 extractor in it, so i am just wondering in what steps do i spend my gas and get my lair aswell as my additonal gases? i am talking about zvp and zvt because i think this opener and build is standard and can be used for all match ups as it feels very versatile. the build is in the link you just have to click on standard 14 pool at the begining and it will take you to the header and build section. thanks to anyone who helps

Ever since the release of Hots (or the 2.0 patch, I haven't really played much) I have noticed a small change that's actually HUGE for me. I usually macro like this: Select hatcheries, select larvae, build unit, shift+1. And that's that. With the new patch the larvae that was selected into the control group is now carried into the group when turned into units themselves. This results in me getting both overlords and drones into my main attack group. What can I do instead? What am I doing wrong?
I can't imagine having to deselect all the larvea that wasn't turned into eggs every time I have to macro. Thanks

Select larvae, build units, ctrl-click eggs, shift-add to control group

Hi! Back in WoL my best match up was vs Terran, but now it's my worst, because of the widow mine.. How do you deal with rush 6 or 7 early widow mine? And how to stop mech and widow mine? It's so frustrating trying to kill a mech terran + widow mine u.u
Thanks a lot! :D

does anyone have a source for a hydra/ling timing build vs ffe toss that is refined?
i cant win late game

Control + Shift + Left Click a larva in your hud. This will deselect all your larva, then add to your control group.

how do you scout and macro at the same time?

In ZvZ, the steps you should take:
-If you scout an early gas/are worried about an early speedling attack: @50 gas, baneling nest. @100 gas, speed. @100 gas, lair
-If you scout a "normal" gas timing from your opponent: @100 gas, speed. @50 gas, baneling nest. @100 gas, lair.
^ is for any kind of muta play, which is pretty much dominated HOTS atm

Is there a way to change those hot keys, Pressing control+shift+left click is slow for me as i have to strain my hands way down (playing on gaming lap top, can't use standard keyboard no room in my tight dorm room.)
Tried looking on hot keys every section could not find it anywhere.
I been manually deselecting larva when i group my eggs in control groups cuz when I macro I over lord+ units later in the game lol

When attacking into Terran bio using roach-hydra do I focus the medivacs with the hydras or do I attack the bio with all my units and try and kill the medivacs after the bio is dead? Thanks.

I have re-bound my right side button on my mouse to Control so that I just hold down the right side button and then left click on the eggs in the hud. Very easy to do. The only downside is if you want to build different types of units (like spamming zrzrzrzrzr) then I think it will only select either z or r but I just build one type of unit + add to control group -> build other type of unit + add to group. But can probably hold shift while doing the same thing and it will deselect the larva.

I bought WoL at release and immediately began playing Toss. I haven't really gotten into SC2 until recently (and I'm still a bit short on time, so I can't just ladder constantly), and with the new expansion I'm considering a race switch to Zerg. What's the best way to get a handle on some basic Zerg concepts, builds, and the like? I've been doing practice games against AI while I memorize hotkeys, the tech tree, and so forth, but I feel like I could do more.

The AI is a lot better now in HOTS as you can set it to do specific builds vs you. If you're comfortable with the basics of Zerg but aren't ready for the ladder, custom games with friends is the best option. If you dont have people who play sc2 like a lot of us try the practice partner thread

You can find someone at your level and play some games. You can even watch replays together which can help point out mistakes, etc
Other than that replays or streams of Zerg players can be useful to help learn

How do you counter standard toss play (turtle)? I go mutas and bounce back and forth between bases but they just go stalkers and get blink. I had around 30 mutas, is this enough or should I go for 60+? Swarm hosts didn't work when trying to bust him either.

first of all only go muta vs robo and TC, never vs SG. and you need to constantly scout for stargates. if he gets out 8-10 phoenix all your mutas will die.
so basically add more mutas and try to keep his basecount low while getting bases and hive up if he does not go phoenix. and if he adds 2-3 SGs and you cant kill them dont build any more mutas and get instant hive and ultras. you pretty much always want to keep him on 3 bases and kill him once ultras are out. until ultras are out never engage his army unless you are 100% sure you can kill it.

This is correct. I want to add on though for his comment on swarmhosts.
With swarmhosts the goal when using them isn't to kill the toss, it's to set up a contain while you as the zerg expand and tech. Once you get hive and have some vipers out with your hydra/swarmhosts you can start abducting his colossi (I feel templar are an awful counter verse swarmhost) and blinding cloud. Then if you can't kill him yet hydra/ultra/swarmhost/viper is the go to composition in late game zvp.
Once I discovered this composition I smash templar/voidray, I beat voidray/tempest/templar/colo no problems at all.
|
What compositions are you guys going for in the mid game against Terran?
|
I'd love to know how you guys beat colli/tempest/templar/voidray or any similiar lategame composition. Is PvZ switching around now so it's basically allins or die after 20min? I can't wrap my brain around this....

Awesome, thanks you blade and Decendos. I'm still a new zerg player (only reason I didn't play it in WoL was because Brood lord / infestor every game was boring) so this advice is helpful.
One last question, which pool is best for ZvP? I've heard 14, 15, and 16 pool and I don't exactly know which is the most standard. I was thinking thinking 15 pool 15 hatch 20 hatch (or something along those lines).
Thanks!
