Hotkeys on drops helps so much!! And the best thing is that you feel the difference at the same day.

One tip that helps me in gameplay as well as ergonomically, I keep my Engineering bays on the same hotkey as all my ccs. This allows you to check on your upgrades every time you want to build SCV's. Unfortunately this does not work for zerg when you have built a lair or a hive as the evos get stuck between your hatcheries, but for terran and protoss it is very useful. I don't know how you have your Zerg hotkeys organized, but if you have your injecting queens together in a control group, you can put your upgrade buildings there too. It has the same effect as with Terran and Protoss having them with CCs and Nexuses. They will always come after the queens and none of the Zerg upgrade buildings have rally points, so they won't be affected by any Queen movement orders.

Practicing without sound gives you more focus (also gets you to look more on the minimap). And when you play with sound in a more import game it will defenitely benefit. But about your previous post what is the benefit of this? I tried controlling my army without hotkeys (which some players do) and than I went back to my usual hotkeys and defenitely that the hotkey usage was more benefitial for my play.

So for the most common settings, I use this: 1 - main army (MMM or mech units) 2 - supprot/air (viking/raven) 3 - specialized units (ghost/mine) 4 - all production 5 - all ccs 6 - all upgrades f-keys for first 3 bases, done. That sounds about right. Very nice and solid hotkey setup. Get rid of the "all the usable things are hotkeyed" mindset, it's convenient at first, but also limiting. You'll find yourself able to do much much more at the same time. Minimap access speed, precision and comfort are essential tools to good multitasking. In fact, few top Terrans (like, the top Code S ones) use control groups when they drop several places at the same time.

I feel that tvz is better not to use hotkeys. In that way you can spread easily, send some scout marines in front, assembly your tanks in different positions, do drops with more ease.. if you have all in different ctrl groups, they will clump, if you send few units infront you have to take out from group, and all that shit takes time... but tvp you need hotkeys! lol

For example I will use 1 and 2 to get my marines and tanks to the edge of the creep, obv you need to split by boxing stuff. Aside from that I will only use the hotkey when the opponent charges and i need to stim, if i need to target fire with tanks, or when the opponent retreats and I want to move forward again.

Sorry for the late reply! The thing is, you need to get used to click minimap more then just tap twice the hotkey. U can believe Bisu in this, its faster (2 clicks against 2 press, and you dont need the set-up hotkeying) and it dont limit you like if u have for example 3 hotkeys for drops u will never be able to do 4 and such. And i thing it makes your head more clear, when u dont need to thing : my 4-drop is the top one, 5-drop is here and 6 drop is in main. But its up to you what u like playing with. I for example use different hotkey for tech lab rax , and for reactor rax, just because its comfortable for me. Even when i build only marines i build them on 2 hotkeys :D

I'm in the same spot as you. also, i use ' as a hotkey (group 9) to eng bays and armory, and caps lock for free hotkey (group 8) to group single scv's when building expansion, or a drop, or anything that needs a quick and temporary hotkey. also i started using ctrl+click instead of double clicking to select same units, it's being great!
