For example,
1. When I scout any of the races, in the early game what am I looking for and what does it mean?
2. In TvT, how do I scout drops to keep them from doom dropping me?

Usually if you know very little about scouting I would recommend you use a very safe build, then when you scout look for stuff you know they aren't doing and cut the corner. So if you go 1/1/1 in TvT then get two more barracks and some tanks i would recommend that if you scout them and see no early second gas, don't bother with detection. If you see nothing, get it. If you scout and see that he expanded a third time, you know he won't attack you, so expand again yourself. Probably not very well articulated advice and pretty shitty examples but in general he will always do what is in his best interest so make sure it's not in his best interest to be attacking you, and then you can attack him and control the game.

I honestly don't know the exact time, im a diamond zerg myself but never really pay attention to time for my build, I use supply. for exemple I will try to take my 3rd in ZvT around 45 supply. this is relatively fast.

Standard 3rd timing in ZvT is around 6:00-6:30 With some roach builds this 3rd can be delayed, depending on what exactly the player is doing before expanding (Teching, Building up an Army etc.) this can be delayed by a couple of minutes. (i.e. 7:30-8:30) Check for any early roach warren/baneling nest combinations using scans or hellion pokes etc. very early banelings in combination with roaches usually indicate a bust. A late 3rd is usually an indication of some sort of aggression or mid-game attack, but sometimes zerg will get some defensive roaches, a later 3rd and use the resources to tech up for something else or a much bigger mid game attack. In the early game you have lots of tools to scout, use your hellions, fight for the watch towers to check for movement on the map, if you feel uncomfortable with what the zerg is doing and it doesn't look like he has that many units, sacrifice your hellions into his base to get more scouting info. A quick lair and lots of early gas can also indicate 2 base muta timing. I don't play Terran so I don't know all the tiny intricacies when it comes to scouting with them, but hope the info helps.

This man speaks the truth. I once got 4 hatchery roach ling all inned on overgrowth playing as protoss. MSC was out of position so I needed epic force fields for this hold.

TvT: Banshees, fast tank pushes TvP: DTs, Oracles, lots of warpgates TvZ: Roach/baneling allin A regular macro build can use defender's advantage and units to hold most things or at least take minimal damage, but those things will just straight up kill you if you're not prepared. My build in almost every single game: 10 depot 12 rax 13 gas Reaper as soon as rax finishes and I have 50 gas Use the reaper to poke around. Prioritize scouting over killing workers. Practice never losing your Reaper. That's my advice.

as for the question in this thread of when to scout, that depends on your build order, if your build order/style has certain IF conditions where you need to change things up and react to X or you die, you should scout for this. as an example take DT's, if your build includes taking spores at a certain timing to counter DT's/provide safety against air, you no longer have to scout for it as your reaction is allready there, if you however choose to be more economical and skip them, it's wise to scout for the possibilty of DT's.

Basically in TvP you are looking for the following: pylon numbers (to ensure no proxy pylon) and gas numbers. If they are at 1 gas you can safely assume they're going to expand rather quickly and you need to do the same. If they are at 2 gases you need to count if they're using 4 probes to mine off 2 or 6 probes. Each means something different. 6 probes obviously indicates some form of tech play. Probably Oracles into Blink seems to be the MO for the ladder. In TvZ you need to make sure they aren't accumulating too much gas. Are they going over 100 gas? That means more than just speedlings. It could mean roaches or banes. However the speedlings will push out your reapers prior to being able to see the tech you just need to be aware there is some form of gas-based follow up. If they stop at 100 gas are they going 3 hatch or droning on 2bases for some form of delayed timing? In TvT you basically need to figure out their plan and more often than not it'll be 1/1/1. But you need to confirm if it will be 1/1/1 with cloak banshees or raven/hellion/marine. You don't want to blindly make turrets when you scout a tech starport because you'll not be able to hold off the next push. If he has a tech port and tech fact you can expect a tank push.

I do have to ask, though: what do you do if your opponent is doing multiple things at once? Like, what if you see an expansion going up with a couple canons for defense? What if they move out to attack you and expand behind it?

My biggest concern currently is scouting. I don't know what I'm looking for. For example, 1. When I scout any of the races, in the early game what am I looking for and what does it mean? 2. In TvT, how do I scout drops to keep them from doom dropping me? here are some general tips for ya TvT 1. Check for gases , let's you know if it's going to be fast expand or gasfirst tech build (i.e cloakbanshee, marinehellion medivac, etc.) 2. Countering doom drops at a lower level I would think would be relatively simple. After you sensor tower (I would just blind sensor tower at 12:00 until you are advanced enough to know when to sensor), have marine spotters, beyond your sensor tower range, on the map to see where the medivacs are coming from. If you are also fearful of single/double medivac drops, you should marine spotter anyways. TvP 1. Check to see if he is double gas or not, in addition to his pylon count. (for example, if he's going double gas and only has one pylon in his main, chances are it's a proxy oracle. 2. Always check for expansion. If he doesn't get an expansion up by 4:20, it's safe to assume it's going to be some kind of 1 base aggression ( oracle, dt, gateway attack, proxy immortal, etc.). Check in areas near your main/natural for proxies.) TvZ expansion is pretty key. If zerg goes gas off expansion, generally speedling opener, but as you're pressuring with your reapers and hellions, if you see that he doesnt have ling speed at a certain point (say like 6 minutes), probably either roaches/fast lair. Keep tabs on zergs 3rd base, because if the zerg just sits on 2 bases = ling bane/roach all-in or fast 2base muta. Scan or attempt to suicide one of your reapers in to see his tech(assuming you went 12/12 reaper expo) most importantly of all, mechanics are the most important at lower leagues. Depot/scv production/production timings are key. Watch tournament replays and grab a strong standard for each match up, gl
