Q: What is Phoenix/Colossi really like?
A(iG.XY): Putting it plainly, it is Protoss's mech. Mothership Core and Colossi are responsible for the land and Phoenixes are responsible for the air. It is very comprehensive. The procudure is Oracle→Colossi→Phoenix/Colossi→Stay at home till maxing out.
Q: It is a very reliable strategy. Your teammates Jim and MacSed like it very much. As a Terran, what do you think its advantages are?
A: Phoenixes are what at stake here, they replace stalkers to make Protoss Army more mobile and versatile. Terran's biggest advantage at mid-game is drops. And Phoenixes solve this problem very well. And the number of Colossi makes the SCV pull much less effective, they also make defending against all-ins easy. It is a very late-game, defensive strategy.
Q: You said this strategy has undergone innovations, what are the innovations?
A: Yes, it was reformed at the GSL, it is a new understanding about choosing the between Army size and upgrades. It used to be that there are one Stargate and one Robo, and catching up upgrades in mid-game; mixing chargelots into Phoenix/Colossi. But there could be some vacuum periods in early game. The new play is going with few Gates and adding one more Stargate, and sometimes one more Robo to ensure the number of Phoenix/Colossi. The forge is just for unlocking the cannon. Phoenix/Colossi with cannons can make your safe in mid-games. Researching upgrades only you have a lot of Colossi, and always with one forge. It makes sure you can make it to late games.
Q: According to your experiences, how to deal to old version, and what would happen if you use the same play with the new version?
A: You should max out and focus your Viking power on Colossi. But there are now just too many Phoenixes and Colossi, and there are cannons. Phoenixes+Cannons could deal with the surviving Terran army. The first engagement of the first game against XluoS is the example.
Q: According to your games with XluoS, there are always battles of attrition, is that how it is supposed to be?
A: Yes, because you can't do drops.
Q: How should Terran deal with it?
A: Phoenix/Colossi is good at defence, but not so at offence. You can't have many Gates if you decided to go Phoenix/Colossi.Your can't counter-attack effectively or instantly. Your should overwhelm your opponent with economy. Your should be more greedy and make sure you're always one base ahead.
Q: You were badly harassed by Phoenixes, how to deal that?
A: There were too many Phoenixes and I could do nothing about it. I had 5 bases then. So I went to his base when his Phoenixes came to mine. I won because there were no phoenixes to protect his Colossi.
Q: What are the bullet points to deal Phoenix/Colossi?
A: If he uses Phoenix/Colossi, there would be a Oracle you need to keep your marines home when reaching 7-8 min mark, sometimes you need two Missile Turrets by default. You need have very good judgement when leaving home at 10 min mark. You need scan him if there are Colossi and chargelots. A common mistake is doing doom drops without accurate info. You need speedy upgrades and 3rd base. Your 200-supply army should have 20+ Vikings, 2-4 Ghosts, 4 Medicals and half/half Marine/Marauder. You should land EMP onto Phoenixes before focus your Viking on Colossi. Engaging your Marine&Marauder should come after most Colossi have fallen.
Q: Where should Protosses should pay attention to?
A: Your need to focus on defence and expanding, rather than harassing with the Phoenixes. This strategy simply does not fit attacking play.
