Hi, this is my first post in the sc2 section so I don't know if I'm breaking any rules by creating such a generic thread.
I am a broodwar player switching to starcraft 2, and I need help finding general ideas behind each matchup since I have no idea what to do (as in something like marine tank for tvp or something). It's difficult to understand guides when I have no clue what each matchup is like.
Thanks for your help

Go to the terran Guide on teh Strategy Section*. It has the latest listing for Strategies. Also terrancraft.wordpress.com has pretty much everything you would need to know about terran if that is in fact your race of choice.
EDIT: *Sorry the Terran HOTS Help Me thread....

The thread suggested above is quite a good thread actually! Heres a link: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/sc2-strategy/402751-the-hots-terran-help-me-thread
If you want to play another race, there are similar threads; http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/sc2-strategy/402753-the-hots-protoss-help-me-thread http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/sc2-strategy/402752-the-hots-zerg-help-me-thread
I was thinking about linking some of day9s "noob videos" but if you are a BW player you don't really need the introduction to the game mechanics, I think... just learn some "standard builds" to get a feel for the units and timings and then look into more serious guides, would be my suggestion! Good luck!
edit:
I thought I could do a short writeup of some matchups in the case of terran, since I play it myself:
TvZ is a bit similar to BW. The most common thing to do is bio, with marines, marauders and medivacs while zerg tends to do zerglings, mutas and banelings. A popular move is to open with a few hellions to pressure and scout a bit. Also widow mines are popular. Here is a great match featuring such play: Dream (T) vs Life (Z)
TvP is very different from BW, and almost reversed in some sense. Protoss has some early allins (and a strong lategame) but somewhere between 10 and 20 minutes in the game terran is usually very aggressive and multitask focused with marines, marauders and medivacs. Vs colossus you often build vikings. Vs templar you often need ghosts. A nice game featuring reaper opening and some mine drops: Innovation (T) vs Creator (P)
TvT is very chaotic initially and hard to describe. You build units and try to kill the other and if you don't die, it often turns out to be marine tank vs marine tank or some player going mech. Here is a game: Maru vs Dream
