Yeah I could probably host a tournament better than them on my one computer and laptop in my shoe-box apartment. Just sayin'.

For what it's worth...the amateur tournament is underway. 18 people (including me) aren't busy and the first 3 rounds are being played tonight, with the other 3 rounds to be played next sunday.
Props to the Xin staff for sticking to their word on this one, even though they had to remove the prize money as a result of us getting a refund.
Bracket can be found here: http://www.xin-gaming.com/events/amateur.jpg

We will be doing many online ones and some LAN's, Next LAN should go without any problems, we will be very likely be doing qualifiers online and only the top 16 coming to the LAN, of coarse spectators will be encouraged to attend, future events will be announced soon. Follow us on:

Matches are being shout casted and will be up in a few days time, we didn't want to just upload replays

I still maintain that it is blizzards fault and not the fault of the netcafe or their router in this instance, while not being able to log in to battle.net there were other users attempting to do non starcraft related activities that were not experiencing any difficulty at all.
Even if you do want to pretend blizzard is faultless how about the fact that they are dragging their feet on adding any form of lan or tournament support.
There is no way for a venue to know or plan alternate arrangements in advance as even the people working for SEA.battle.net have no idea that the issue even occurs.
I've never been to cydus before but I feel they are being given a bit of a hard time here over events beyond their control - but on the otherhand for what fucking reason did they think they should be allowed to keep the signup money for the amateur comp.

It was Blizzard. I could surf the rest of the internet. I also tested logging into sea.battle.net and us.battle.net through a browser - it would time out with an error!

I'm sorry but your very basic tests don't prove its Blizzard. Actually sounds like a problem with Cydus's ISP and certain routes. Considering blizzard websites aren't hosted with their server equipment.
|
Perhaps, but blizzards ambiguous fucking error messages don't help the situation.
When beta phase 2 went live most people that tried to log in got the same error that people were getting at Cydus on Saturday, which was basically because blizzard was restricting access to bnet 2.0 at the time to not overstress the servers. I have no idea what they were restricting by, but on one login I was told that battle.net was down and the other worked fine. I dare you to try and tell me this is an issue with my router.
Now go hammer the login screen tonight and get yourself temp banned, the message says nothing about being banned (from memory it is 5-6 lines which imply that battle.net is down or unavailable) but that is clearly what the issue is - try restarting your computer, wont help anything - get a new IP, problem solved.
I pretty much refuse to accept that Blizzard is blameless in this situation. and @ Pulsenova, I don't much like Kespa anyway, find a better insult.
Also I haven't been to N2C in about 10 years but are they still complete wankers about spectators? They used to not let anyone in that wasnt paying money to be there. From memory it was a nice venue but only had about 40 computers and would only ever book out like two rows for use at a competition.
Bolded for the blindman Pulsenova.

yea man we didnt receive our cydus credit...man a 12 hour wait when your hungover on 5 hours sleep doesnt help...
The organizers were great, but the lady behind the desk was on her rags, and i don't blame her man at least put a few more staff on if you know your hosting a tourny.
FAIL: BNET
FAIL: CYDUS
deth at least you got a new mouse lol

>_> Luckily I got my refund at 2:30. Xin Gaming have great potential, and as long as they don't hold another tournament at Cydus, all will be good.

Can I suggest MCC in melbourne? http://www.mccgaming.com/ ? It is a relatively new Lan place with multiple rooms, new comps (relatively), a bit cramp, but they do have a projector screen (was used to watch world cup 2010) so finals can be viewed on it. I'm also pretty sure the owner is an sc2 enthusiast because me and a friend gave him our spare beta keys =D Just suggesting the place, because I frequent it enough to be used to the mouse + keyboard there. That, and the place is usually packed with dota players, hopefully if there's a touranment there we can show them what a Real Men Game is. =D We will however not be doing anything of this size at a venue due to Blizzards IP cap, in future if we decide to have a tournament at a LAN there will be online qualifications and only a small number (10-16) will be playing at the venue with a lot of spectator space. Or get approval from blizzard to run a tournament, (other then slow i heard they dont charge) We did, they never said anything about a cap. Ok then, after reading this + the guy not able to access bnet websites as well i would say it was something on Cydus end or with their ISP.

I've only been to MCC and n2c twice respectively (I live in Adelaide after all), but MCC is about 1000 times better in every way to n2c. If you do look for another venue MCC is great. I don't think spectators will be a problem, I think there is plenty of space.

Yea, lol I was just thinking...MCC isn't THAT cramped, I actually think it's BIGGER than Cydus, as well as having more computers. They just don't have the random arcade games etc.
I also just found out something. MCC has Starcraft 2 on ALL their computers. As in, they have an sc2 account on ALL computers. I was told that the owner of MCC actually bought a sc2 copy for EVERY computer there. I think that's his way of getting sc2 out to the general public.
For those on SEA server, next time you play some1 with something like "MiDCty XXXX" then your playing some1 from MCC. Very high chance of it being a diamond player just playing on a Bronze account. lol
EDIT (Because DeL proved me wrong): OR you face complete scrubs who just wants to try out the game. At least me and my frend goes on the bronze accounts (there are different level accounts from bronze -->diamond, depending on who's been playing on the comp), and try and win with mass workers =P

holy shit I just looked at the pictures of MCC, that place looks amazing. There isnt much room for people behind players which is a bit of a problem though, but the area I was sitting in at Cydus was quite high traffic due to people watching Mez play behind me and for the first set of games I had fat people walking past me nudging me constantly which was really offputting.
I definitely blame these people for me losing my second game zvz and my 4hatch before pool FFA
regardless of venue before a place is chosen somebody is going to need to make sure the bnet issues that occured at Cydus wont happen again. NFI how to test if you dont just happen to have 60 spare accounts lying around

We smashed them barely losing a unit and then explained in less than polite terms how this game doesn't have just 1 unit you can't play it like DotA (cos it's a DotA netcafe right?).

Hey! Don't pay out DoTA! Also yes, it seems like everyone at MCC plays DoTA, Wish this was the case when DoTA was in it's prime
