GOM TV is hosting a Global Starcraft II League(GSL)
The Tournament Cash prize is up to 200,000,000 Won(roughly around $200,000)
for the Open tournament.
After the Open tournament, until end of 2010, it is planned to give out up to $600,000 in cash
prizes(it will be a monthly $100,000 tournament according to the readers from the playxp)
Offline qualifiers are on the 4th of September, the ro64 begins on the 10th. (thanks GTR).
All games starting ro64 will be broadcasted through Gom TV.
The 2010 Tournament is to pick out the players who is going to play in 2011 GSL.
The players in 2010 league are automatically qualified for 2011 GSL.
The 2011 League is going to have two league with upper league and lower league (the top
32 from 2010 league is going to be upper and 33-96 is going to be in the lower league based off
point system).
Maps: It will use Blizzard's 1v1 Ladder maps.
The 2011 GSL has four format.
1) GSL: The Upper and Lower League
2) World Championship: top 4 players from each region of B.net
3) Ladder Tournament: Top 200 players of each B.net region competing for cash prizes.
4) Blizzard Cup: Top 8 players will be invited to play best of 5 with playoff system.
The league plans to involve all the gamers in the world and stream all the games
throughout the world! (through GOM.TV I assume).
One of the GOM TV shoutcasters left a comment in Playxp saying that
GOM.TV is showcasing its new SC2 HD stream today through its Star2Gether Skirmish
broadcast.
This is great news for SC2! WOO HOO!
Edit: It does not say specifically how a player can enter the tournaments, so I am not so sure.
The first open tournament seems to be only for those residing in Korea.
On a side note: The Administrative of GOM TV will decide whether the players
have the ethics and virtue(?) to participate. So this could mean that the disgraced
SC1 players who were involved in the scandal may not be able to participate (CONFIRMED: The commentator for GOM TV says SC1 players who were involved in
the scandal are NOT allowed to participate at least as of right now).

and I will edit it in.

Do we know Tasteless will be commentating? I know he worked for GOM in the past, does he still have a contract or something there? Or can we just hope?

do i understand that correctly?
there will be one big tournament with about 200'000$ cash prices and a additional league system with about 400'000$ cash prices
opened for all players around the world
and all of this in the next 5 months?

It says that GOM TV will hold a tournament with 200,000$ prizes
and plans to give out 400,000$ more over the course of 2010. I am not exactly too sure
what they mean by that, but I speculate there will be lots of tournaments :D!
|
=O
thats how my face looks
|
$100,000 to first place in this tourney, and there's multiple tourneys like this over the rest of 2010, best players from these qualify for next year's global league... where even more money can be won! oh hells yes! :D
|
God I love Google translate... "-64 ~ Final Qualification under the river .."
Anyway, this came out okay: Tournaments are conducted every month in the given prize money of 100 million won for the winner and the second top four semi-finalists for the river and 4, respectively, given 30 million won and 10 million won.
|
Is this the return of Tasteless? I cant wait to watch this.
|
Well I think this will be the largest SC2 tourney for the near future. Hope this will improve western esports, thank you Korea. Goodbye MLG,ESL...
|
This is awesome, great start for the SC2 pro scene. However I really do hope GOMTV manages to make it awesome for non-koreans as well, I'm just afraid we'll end up with a low quality stream with technical difficulties at every cast. (Sort of like the old english GOTMV was, although it got better eventually.) Hopefully it will turn out to be just awesome though
|
OMG! This is insane. If it is really 100k per month for each tournament, then we should see some super dedicated 24/7 progaming teams forming soon.
|
TASTELESS COMMENTARIES!! :D:D:D

That's 100k per month for first, 200k total prize pool for each tourney. They will probably do 3 total this year by the sounds of it. And then who knows what they're doing with the actual league they're starting next year, probably another $500k prize pool for that league haha. But yes, Goodbye MLG and ESL! haha well maybe they have a place still for the people that aren't quite good enough to get into GOM Like me!
|
This is simply amazing! A real step for SC2 as an e-sport. I'm so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Tasteless is the commentator for English but i don't know the second one, maybe Artosis or even Superdanielman ??

MLG and ESL still do a lot of cool stuff. You gotta start small before you can reach this level of awesome.
|
Wholy shit... Thats insane and makes me super excited! :D
|
If Tasteless and Superdanielman both return to commentate the English stream together, I will die of excitement overload.
seriously... they were such a great team.
|
SuperDanielMan probably wont because he owns a PC Bang now. But it sounds like Tasteless is still working with GomTV based on the artosis interviews. Maybe they will have LilSusie again
|
engrish pweze.... i cant read the article

Oh you sneaky Blizzard this might actually work even for the koreans that hate you. Now this is advertisment in the right direction and trying to kill of BW at the same time.

i hope gom gets better korean commentators and really makes their events extraordinary. every effort must be made to draw in the broodwar audience, because if they can't break that market then it will be a lot more difficult to gain national recognition.
my fantasy is that day9 visits seoul to co-commentate the english stream with tasteless for at least one tourney :| with their talent+relationship the plott bros must have incredible chemistry casting

read the line above. It said "disgraced" SC1 players. Probably means those who have cheated in the past.

Sorry I don't think I made it clear, but I think they were referring to those
who were involved in the scandal not just any other sc1 players.

So anyway how do i enter, top 200 of ladder><V
|
Yea looks like a translating error. Still its a huge tournaments for SC2 lets see what will happen

Wow sick prizepool, hope Tasteless can commentate!

I think we are all missing the point...
The huge cash prize pools will draw the best players, which will draw spectators, which will draw sponsorships... alot of the big corporations in korea will probably say "the hell with KeSPA" and jump ship to whatever GOM/Blizz have planned...
This is definitely the beginning of the end for BW... SDM comments on his twitter how nobody plays SC2 in his PC Bang.. I guarantee you this will change that...
AFAIK the BW tourneys don't come close to this in terms of cash for the players.. the BW players will definitely consider resigning those contracts...

This is excellent news. SC2's competitive scene will no doubt be heavily influenced by this.
|
|
GO GO GOMTV I always liked their starleagues, I hope they can get an english commentator on board. I would be surprised considering their partnership with Blizzard if they don't find a way to get these games in English online. I just pray China's internet doesn't block me from watching!

if this is added to the tournament tracker it will put all of our newbie Western tournaments to shame
|
Woah! THIS IS AWESOME =DD
