Polt goes vikings+marines+tanks. Polt puts early pressure on TOP, who went for helions and banshees. TOP switches to maras and tanks and breaks through the containment. The game goes into late game with lots of good and fail drops, tanks, vikings, maras, etc. from both sides.
Both players turtle and keep harassing each other with helions, DTs, and phoenixes. Maru goes for mass tanks, vikings and helions, while Zenith goes for mass stalkers, with a few robo units, DTs and a mothership.
i wish for cool to win. yet i also wish that he gets 5 rax reapered. then i wish he could stop it with a single thought. then i wish the terran just gg's right then and there in complete awe.
Awesome games today. Really looking forward to Cool! Always nice to see good Zergs play. Also, when are we going to start calling him "Fruitseller"? I mean, has he officially changed his name yet?
Inca's PvP was among the best I've seen so far. Let's hope he can keep that level. TOP & Polt where both good in RO64. Seems like a coin-flip to me, although TvT-predictions are far from my strongsuit.
Cool hwaiting! Please don't let today be as upsetting as yesterday
I hope that Cool advances through to the Ro16. I admittedly don't know anything about his Terran opponent, but I'm confident that our favourite Fruit Dealer's got some plans. I wouldn't be surprised if he even has a specific strategy for Lost Temple.
Match 2 and 3 I can't call, but I think that Match 4 should be a relatively easy win for Inca.
If you tune into the stream before it's officially open you can get stuff like this. Yesterday it was the Korean hosts just having a joke, quite fun. Makes a change from kpop anyway.

I think artosis is wrong about that - it takes 3 marines to kill the gas steal faster than it builds. So 2 or 1 marine makes it worthwhile to cancel and rebuild.
Cool goes hatch > pool. Taeja goes for fast factory. Cool steals gas and starts speedling upgrade. Cool does the cancel extractor trick on Taeja's gas. First helion comes out. followed by a reaper. Queen's not up yet. Cool defends with drones. Most of them on red hp. Ling speed and queen comes and saves Cool. Harass over for now. Cool didn't lose much.

That's why he is so Cool. Me, I would totally "GG'ed" like a pro.
Interesting tactic from the Terran though, Hellion to roast so the reaper can 1-hit kill the lot of them.
Spire up for Cool. 7 Mutas queed. Taeja drops 3 marines and 1 tank on the cliff at Cool's natural. But, Cool kills them with mutas and goes on harassing with mutas. Taeja builds a turret on the cliff at Cool's natural. Cool keeps making mutas and keeps harassing, while getting banelings. He lost quite a few mutas to turrets. Tanks out for Taeja.
Mutalisks are so annoying O_o... giving the Terran player the* run around, goes to main with his flock n lings, bounces to the 3rd and soon after T GG's.

Love watching the games with mutas all over the map, really a shame so few zergs left because ZvT and ZvP seem to produce the most interesting matches.
I loved cools usage of his slow banelings in game 1, using them to force the marines to stim and run back to kite, and during that time, the mutas swooped in and killed them and the tanks while taking very little damage.

About 75% down the page source, you will see "<!-- Premium LIVE Start//-->" in green italics on the left. A little ways after that, you'll see the link. Additionally, ORLY on the TL.net forums here wrote a very awesome script for the Firefox addon called GreaseMonkey. Just download GreaseMonkey, and then go to http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/85762 and install the script.
Now, whenever you go to GOM's live page and are signed into your account, there will be stream links you can copy and paste.

Even as good as Cool was, I know it will just be goddamn impressive when even better pros make it to SC2. Tasteless and Artosis have been saying this, but I realize now more than ever that it's true.
This game is so new. There is still so much room for radical change in strategy.

Same thing as in Brood War(except much more cost effective and need many less), more turrets and good Marine control.
Yeah well you can't irradiate mutas here !
I think Hunter Seeker Missile is supposed to fill that role, but HSM is not very effective, it does hundred damage and forces you to pull the one targeted off, but even then mutas can outrun the HSM. I think the upgrade that makes the HSM last longer should increase its speed, it might see more play then.

This is common when a terran goes bio but not to this extent usually once they start pumping medivacs the gas reserve drops but he had a lot of gas even after making medivacs :/ So yeah he looked pretty nervous

I think they should just set the camera to the Korean observer and go from there.... clearly they aren't doing a tolerable job if they miss something huge like that.

maybe it's because it were the first two games, but artosis/tasteless are doing worse than yesterday - again showing stupid things like the buildings below metalopolis, talking about mengsk, explaining "again" that "good" map for zerg just means "balanced" map because each and every rige is pure imba by definition - it gets old

yeah I don't understand why they don't use the korean observer. they have missed some key moments in another games too.
However, I think that it's just a BIT unfair for Artosis to ask Cool what other Zergs could do to improve, because I don't think that his opponent was of the same calibre as say, Lotze.
Still, I don't want to take anything away from Cool at all because he was pretty pimp. Even though it didn't work out, I really like that he at least tried to use burrow Baneling traps .

oh that explains everything i guess. Well for example his hellion micro looked so rusty in comparison to -for example- TLO's. He could've won the first game easily having hellion+reaper (+1 more hellion and reaper coming) in cool's nat, or at least secure advantage big enough to win later.

Just make marine/thor/tank and planetary fortress expand on gold.
Yeah, "every", that has to be reason why there is so many Zergs left in tournament, and almost none of Terrans...
Oh wait
Every successful terran against high level zerg so far either cheesed with 5rax reapers or did a powerful macro strat with thors.
Doing 1 base + hellion harass and bio skirmishes ends up with them losing to muta/ling and not really accomplishing anything. Watch every single tvz win and lose, notice the difference in strats.
On September 16 2010 18:44 klauz619 wrote: Terran doesn't even bother walling with a depot and he loves half hearted skirmishes (big nono vs zerg) and he expands very, very late.
I notice high tier terrans always expand early and fight zerg macro with equal terran macro (not this DURR HURR 1 base vs 3 base zerg).
?! This is so random. If you play mech what you say is right for obvious reasons, if you wanna stick to bio (which he did), the only way to keep up are those "half-hearted" skirmishes. If you leave him alone, you might as well just leave since you want to keep the drone and army count (esp zergling/baneling) down.
The skill difference between the two players wasn't that huge, Cool simply played strong (well, except losing 5-6 mutas and engaging with 7 banelings doing 0 damage for no reason).

Sick timing by Polt, 2 vikings outside tops starport when the banshee pops, takes it out. Delays expo with vikings while taking his own, some siege tank marauder fights between nats.
Jesus they are missing the detail that polt prime had a command centre with full energy all the time just to kill the banshees. and they also missed the banshees of Top attacking the base and many other stuff...
honestly, do they even look the minimap ? just like to catch up for weird stuff going on in the map ? no need to actually stay focused on everything but at least PIN POINT that something is happening elsewhere...

Wow that was really nice game, wonder how Top managed to macro that good while Polt was harrasing him..but yeah, Polt lost some of units a bit to reckless while doing early harass, tho it looked like it will pay off right there
Edit : oh looks like we missed some big fight where Top took lead and wiped Polt army...
That was a really close game, great comeback from Top, Polt seemed to do SO much damage in the early game, and delayed the expo for so long. But it does seem he has trouble in the late game, as he didn't seem to have a 3rd on the way, whereas Top did. I also really like DQ as a map.

Tanks are a crucial unit in TvT. It will always be that way (unless HotS has some weird new terran unit)
Polt lost the first game because he gave up too many units and especially gave up his air control. He lost his second game because his expo came up too late and he couldnt' deal with Top's timing push and follow up play.

Well Polt may not have necessarily known that? He was keeping up with TOP for the most part in the battles, and he was getting his gold. I think the reason he left was because he wasn't able to break the mini-contain and secure his gold.

Polt won a battle right before that, but was then pushed back by the reinforcements. i don't know if he knew that top was mining out of this goldexpansion for so long...
SC2 is the only game/community I've seen where people actually get upset with people toying and messing with opponents. I was perfectly fine with what he did and I thought it was hilarious.

and what about early timed marine pushes when there can ONLY be 1 sieged tank ? I'm talking about early game harras. 1 tank won't hold many many stuff that can be donde with early marines/marauders/scv pushes.

As soon as that gold expansion start to produce there are going to be proxy pylons everywhere lol
Maru has taken his 3rd now, and terran does seem to be relatively effective on fewer bases than other races, so I think tales of Maru's demise are premature at this point.
1 raven would have saved his life... 2 dts and 1 mommaship stopping his whole tanks/viking/hellions army to move forward and punish that protoss base was kinda silly.
maru is a pretty annoying player to watch. doesnt do anything interesting, gets outstrategized, GGs before a single big battle happens, i mean this is just not good entertainment
Not really impressed by either of these players, Maru is crazy passive and has stimmed at two really really useless points. Zenith meanwhile pinned him back and still isn't taking his third, gamesense plz.
Was pretty good protoss play, surprised he did not go the blinkstyle into main earlier, his ground army was stalker heavy all the way. And he took his third a bit late for my taste, but damn good pressure. The baby was a bit passive in both games.

Was it Tester's build? The one he used against Idra?
On September 16 2010 20:42 Alpina wrote: I am wondering how can you defend such canon rush with pylon contain..?
Obviously the whole cheese is based on not building anything in your base and panicking the other player into going 2gate. The easiest way to hold this is just playing normally and building the Cyber Core so you can pop the probe with the stalker.
Pylon contain seems extremely strong on PvP on metalopolis. Those cannons can hit anything below the nexus, I don't think that's possible on other maps. Otherwise stalkers would just kill the pylon wall at the ramp and you'd be ok since he wasted like 6-700 minerals on cannon rushing you.
EDIT: Actually he would have been fine if he had made a cyber core instead of the second gateway. Once the probe dies you can pick off the cannons from the high ground due to no vision of the base. Kind of hard to do if you don't see the forge since you would naturally assume proxy gates when scouting an empty base.
I love Inca because he knows every cheese in the book but more importantly he knows how to mix it up with super solid standard play so no matter what he does he is always keeping his opponent guessing. Trademarks of a great player.
On September 16 2010 20:42 Alpina wrote: I am wondering how can you defend such canon rush with pylon contain..?
I can only think of killing the scouting probe asap, if you can, then possibly reverse proxy something in their main? Cos Zandarke had a probe in Inca's main although that'd take a long time hmmm
This cannon rush was done by nexgenius a while back. A korean friend of mine showed it to me and we practiced it quite a bit and it's almost impossible to stop if you don't know it's coming. I've only done it on ladder once or twice because I really didn't want it to spread.
Ladder is going to suck now
It only really works 100% on Metalopolis and Xel Naga caverns
edit: I did this in a wolf cup a few weeks back and got called a noob for cannon rushing

mind you, i don't dislike "cheese" at all i think it's all a part of the game and it's exciting to watch, i just think it's pretty bad double moral, hating one player for cheese but not another. that's all.

The problem with this is you won't know if it's a 2gate or canon rush leaving you in a blank untill you get contained which is why this is such a well thought cheese build by Inca. If you go for stalkers the 2gate will crush you anyways by just outmacro'ing you. By going 2gate to counter the 2gate then you will be very vulnerable to canons.
The best possible way is to actually kill the probe and after that the pylon in the base. But by the time you are able to do that you'll take quite some losses but if u haven't lost too many units to this then you're ahead in tech else you're even or far behind.

You have to fast forward till you're realy live as soon as you start the stream.
Yup. Worked fine for me.
Inca responded that he wouldn't have done it if he hadn't won the first game. He only did it because the first game was such a long hard win and he was fairly exhausted from the match.

Obviously the whole cheese is based on not building anything in your base and panicking the other player into going 2gate. The easiest way to hold this is just playing normally and building the Cyber Core so you can pop the probe with the stalker.

Such a well thought cheese build lol.
it all came down to micro in that fight. if i'm not wrong the probe was only 1 attack away from getting killed which would have changed the tide completely

This is paraphrasing. 2nd question: Why did you cannon rush on the 2nd map?
A: I hadn't planned on cannon rushing if I had won easily on the first map. But because it was such a close game and I had kind of a hard time, I figured I would just go for an easy win and cannon rush.
Anyone know the song that they are playing as they sign off? Not the Robert Miles one, but one at the very end...right as the break starts before the interview.

yea like I said kill the probe first then the rest. But seeing he was able to have vision already on the base due to a pylon being warped in he could have just run aroudn the base with his pylon and let his canons do the rest for a while and make pylons if his vision of the base is goign to get away. A probe still outruns a zealot by a tiny margin (without queuing waypoints).

Nah, at the point where the probe was at 5 hp it was already over. He had 2 cannons on the low ground and his pylon on the high ground was over 50% complete, giving vision of the high ground EVEN if the probe died.
He needed to kill it before it placed buildings on the high ground.
the sickest part about that cheese, is he relied on the mistakes spent by his opponent to gate his own ramp. Now that, that's next level shit right there.
Brilliant play by Inca although ZanDarke was lacking somewhat. Can't really blame him on game 2 though.
Cannon rushes are pretty hard to stop in PvP if you're not expecting it, especially on a cannon friendly 4 player map like Metalopolis. Have you people who for some reason assume no Platinum+ players lose to cannon rush even been cannon rushed by a good player? -_-
Inca had a recent history of triple proxy gating in Ro64, that surely had an effect on ZanDarke since 2 gate would be the right response if it were proxy gates but lose vs a cannon rush, especially such a well executed one.
Inca has a knack for creating exciting games, awesome player even though I despise PvP.
Guess u all toss players - playing pvp in this map - u gotta' let a probe at your entrance - at the bottom of the ramp from now on ... just in case - not to get pylon blocked and see what the heck's going on
On September 16 2010 20:42 Alpina wrote: I am wondering how can you defend such canon rush with pylon contain..?
I can only think of killing the scouting probe asap, if you can, then possibly reverse proxy something in their main? Cos Zandarke had a probe in Inca's main although that'd take a long time hmmm
I think if this sort of cannon rush becomes more standard, the counter would be to put a patroling probe at the bottom of your ramp like zerg players do until you figure out exactly what was proxied.

An owning Z v T - maybe see the first match to get an ideea , a nice spark in a T v T game; last game - some nice cheese technique - i've never seen before , but ... otherwise , if u r not playing toss .... no

Inca's games were exciting like the ro64 matches. Insane and insane comebacks which was imageinable at the time. Furthermore 2nd game was very creative using cannon rush strat mixing in 2 cheeses to a new innovative one. The others were okay in my opinion
But I would just pay just for games that are near or better like Inca's games.

Probe at the ramp.
In quite a few of the ZvP VOD's I've seen in the last few days, people are parking a drone at the bottom of their ramp as part of their standard BO. Every ZvP I've seen of JulyZerg he seems to do this... I guess we'll see more of this play.

I tried looking on GomTV.com for the Korean version, but I can't even follow the links, cause I can't understand Hongul. The Korean casted Vod should be free though, hopefully someone can link it, you don't need to hear this one casted, it's sick and quick enough to just watch. So if anyone can link the Korean vod, I'd appreciate.

tbh Top was scary in RO64 too, he didn't make a single mistake in those games and today he proved he is a contender for the Top spot and i love his manner mules :D

Where do you see JulyZerg reps?
If you search FantaPrime on youtube, you should be able to find a bunch of games. I'm at work now, but if you want I can check my youtube subscriptions when I get home for the names of the channels. I think it was some channel with "hydra" in the name? I know the guy also posts on TL but sadly don't remember his user ID...
Anyways, you could probably find a bunch of replay by searching FantaPrime on TL
There's a guy on the US server named Errror who does that cannon rush every time on Metalopolis perfectly. He was the one who created it, it seems. He's pretty good at it too. He has a 90% PvP win rate on that map. It's very hard to stop if you are not suspecting it.

finally someone used burrowed banes. I've been using them in all my zvts and they are so ridiculously strong. Watch from the moment cool got burrow how many times he could have fucked the terran over with them.
Cool is going to take this gsl down now that my favorite player is out
Being a zerg player who has had to patrol a drone at bottom of ramp for some time now, I think it is highly amusing that Protoss will have to do it now on meta XD

This is not true.
Like I said earlier, NeXgenius did this strat over a month ago. I used it 3 weeks ago in the open wolf cup. I could have easily just left out the nexgenius part and claimed that I created it as well, but I didn't and neither did Errror.
I'm really enjoying watching SanZenith play. He looks to be a very solid player, while maybe not at the level of tester, is very disciplined in his approach to the game.
I was trying to find an appropriate thread for this but I guess this one have to do:
After watching the English GSL stream and VODs, I struck me how good of a caster Artosis is. His knowledge about the game is flawless and overall his casting is top notch. When the news came of him casting with Tasteless (I really like Tasteless casting aswell) I thought he would act like he does in his posts here and his videos and bitch about imbalance, but instead the English casts with him really impressed me. He is by far the best caster I have ever heard and he should get more props for this.

i doubt nexgenius created it either. Just like dimaga didnt invent baneling busts he just perfected em.
is there anyway someone could show tasteless how to have his screen follow a unit as it moves instead of scrolling to keep up with a moving army? much smoother than watching him click around
The Inca cannon rush game can be found here: http://ch.gomtv.com/427/28024/384646/4 however i get some error when i try to play it, which is in korean or chinese so, dunno:D But thats the link atleast. Youtube here
