This Saturday at 9PM EST/6PM PST two Starcraft 2 players, Joe K and HLPRMNKY, will fight to the death in order to settle their grudge and raise money for sick children. All proceeds go to the Child's Play hospital of the winner's choice.
Your donations will directly provide video games to hospitalized children, please donate now!
The matches will be shoutcasted by EG.iNcontrol and Trus, a Penny Arcade forumer who casts their regular tournaments. You can watch the action live via Trus's Starcraft stream.
LOL I'm pretty stoked now, I thought I was going to spend my Saturday night listening to my wife bitch and moan... Now I get to watch some bruisin' bronzers. Awesome trailer btw.
This will truly be a great thing to watch. iNControl casting + awesome bronze level play will probably be one of the most entertaining US starcraft 2 experiences this year. I say that with no intention of hyperbole.

All artwork and trailers were done with volunteers, and they have all delivered spectacularly. Be sure to check out the linked thread for more artwork, more banners, and sig lines.
Really glad everyone is looking forward to this! And thanks for the kudos on the videos!
I hope we can get as many people as possible to watch and also donate, seeing as this is a charity event, so it would be amazing if you could tell as many people as possible about our "Rumble in the Bronze"!
That was an awesome intro video, wow. I was hoping for a little more backstory drama though, it's always more fun when the two guys are playing because they hate each other.
Even if they're friends, invent something they disagree on to fuel the fire and increase the hype.

PA and Iowa im guessing is where they are from based on the hospitals. They are clearly in a huge fight over which state has better farm land and decided to settle it based on SC2
I hope people will enjoy our special "micro/macro" 2vs2! We have a Diamond player teamed up with a Bronze player. The Diamond macros, the Bronze micros. SO many units will die horrible deaths for our amusement, haha.
As Klyka mentioned, we start with the special 2v2, have a mid-card fight of a Bo3 Diamond 2000+ Z v P, and then finish it off with a Bo5 in the Bronze.
Already donated quite a bit to Child's Play with the Desert Bus For Hope event by Loading Ready Run. I'll happily add a little more onto that for this though, looks like it'll be great fun.

That was one of the better details that artist put on there. ;-)
This is the greatest low level bronze league trailer tounrnament grudge match thing I have ever seen. I hope the PA community keeps these types of events up.

The event will be run through my stream so I can answer this;
VoDs will be up, but since Own3d doesn't do any sort of live recording of streams the videos will take a bit to upload. Everything gets saved as a .flv on my harddrive as the cast moves along so once everything gets finished I will get to work converting them to a better format and uploading them but it will probably take a day or two.
Honestly, the game that has made me laugh the hardest since release was a base race between between two bronzies at a lan, 45mins walking around the map in circles building and losing bases to each other with like 5 units each. The micro was epic.

I think you'd be safe uploading flv. I'd say the majority of people have VLC player, and if they don't they should.
I'm gonna be at work during this... I really wish I could watch it live. Incontrol is, hands-down, my favorite personality in the SC2 scene (with Day[9] like... riding on his shoulders or something... I don't know, but they're close). More than anyone in the SC2 community, you guys just "Get it" as Day[9] would put it.
Just remember, Incontrol, for every loud-mouthed douchebag critic you have over your posts and/or SotG casts, you have 100 silent fans who actually have a brain and understand (and largely agree with) the context of the things you say.
Should be possible to add the time so it shows for whatever timezone the player has set his teamliquod too in the OP, just a thought. Anyway will be looking forward to this if i am able to tune in, can only imagine incontrol casting bronzeish level players will be awesome.

Now, the post-cast lobbies may go that late, but hey, you never know.
I know there was one worker at AMH here. If there are a couple more philly peeps, we can have a post-match drinking binge at the Drake.
Haha, this is going to be awesome! Always liked incontrol's sense of humor (from listening to him on Sotg). I'm glad you guys are uploading VODs!! I really liked the trailers too! :D
i love incontrol casts. it's always entertaining. is he back in the us or still in korea? (dunno if he just went there to play GSL, but i think i remember something about an EG house/apartment over there?)

He's back in the US. Any EG house in Korea wouldn't be established until 2011 as far as I know.
Also I hope they don't make iNcontroL hold back. I want an uncensored iNcontroL.

One of the players is someone we regularly make fun of (good-naturedly, of course). The whole point of two Bronze players duking it out is so we can watch and laugh and let iNcontroL makes jokes to his heart's content.
This is gonna be awesome! I really can't wait! I'm especially excited to hear iNcontroL shoutcasting, it'll be my first time hearing him in game and not just in an interview/discussion
I'll try to help out anyway I can, not sure if I'll be around for much of the actual event but maybe we can continue it after wards or something to get some more donations rolling.

as the begrudging organizer of this event, and one of the main participants - i talked directly with iNcontrol today, and told him that we know his shitick and that he didnt need to adjust.
all he needed to do was flog the Child's Play donations.

I'm all for keeping it rolling as long as we have participants, casters and fun.
Any chance we could get a small highlight reel of cheeses/harasses/micro/macro? Doesn't need to be particularly high production value, but I enjoyed the first trailer so much, I'd love a shorter sequel if possible to hold me over til Saturday.

Haha I literally laughed my ass off watching that trailer. A real cheer to you guys pulling this off, and I hope you get some good donations going on. This just looks to be such a fun event!
Incontrol is the perfect caster for this event. I can't wait to hear the shit talking.
This reminds me of this video, which is one of the funniest things ever. Now that I watch it again, he kinda reminds me of Raelcun with his voice (<3 rael casting).

it would have been great to have a time that works great for everyone. One of our fighters tonight is in Japan, and we may have an Aussie in there, I can't remember.
Unfortunately, no matter what time we pick, some region is going to be screwed. 9PM EST/6PM PST gives us the best coverage over on this side of the pond.
The VODs of the event will be up shortly afterwards, so you can watch the whole thing post-match.

This is Starcraft 2. 50 apm is plenty to get into diamond, never mind bronze!

Yeah I get maybe 10 seconds and then buffering into skipping into more buffering, it's infuriating.
That was completely amazing. I'm serious when I say that was the most entertaining hour of SC2 I've seen in a long time and I was in tears almost the whole time.

be like a professional boxer vs 7 teenagers
they could maybe take him down if they strategized and worked together
That second 2v1 was stupid. They matched up iNcontrol with two diamond players without telling him, and not only that, they were clearly listening to the stream (blind 5 queens and overseerer, yeah right). He thought they were bronze so he was offracing and attempting to troll (like the first 2v1).

Your base is so far away from the enemy though that you should never allow them to get to that choke. Mix that with 2 close expansions and zerg can get 3 base quite easily and take map control.
In future events like this I hope they stay away from showing decent players play. This current platinum vs diamond player is a good example. You lose the entrainment gained from watching terrible players play, and you also don't get to see high level player. It's just a boring random game, not to mention they are listening into the stream and cheating.

That was a surprisingly entertaining and successful event, apparently they raised over $3000, and there were like 2800 people on the stream at one time.
A couple of lame games with DECENT players, but otherwise very entertaining noob play.

The entire event was created by a group of us in just under 2 weeks. We learned a lot from this and, if we decide to, the next event will be that much better.

The 1v1 with the two diamondish players a 3
The 2v1 against Incontrol by two diamondish players (listening to the stream...) a .001
The last 1v1 between the two bronzeish players a 6.
and finally, the beginning best of 5 absolutely a 10 - was fuckin awesome.
All in all great! Please stick to the horribad players and make sure they aren't listening to the stream!
I'd like to thank everyone for watching, donating and making this event a success. We pulled this off with 2 weeks of planning, and made significant money for Child's Play.

i've kindof stayed off the ladders for a while, just to get my head cleared and the kinks worked out. still working on it.
but again, thanks for everyone tuning in and contributing. i hope that you were well entertained.
Some constructive criticism though: -Don't be inviting random people from chat. They will lie about their rank, listen to the stream, and do/say dumb things on purpose (all of which we saw). Prepare plenty of people beforehand if possible. Just my 2 cents. -Bronzies are by far the best. Stick to 'em!
The 2 diamonds vs. incontrol was ultra lame, not even close to a fair fight. The bronze bo5 was the highlight of the night though and I could barely breathe the whole time. Incontrol, you are hilarious, WTB like 5 of these in a row please!
All in all, good job by everyone, the success of the event in $ raised alone should be incentive to do more I reckon. Props!

There has been talk of making this a regular type event. We've learned a lot in the planning process, especially that 2 weeks is incredibly straining on everyone involved.
We mapped out the first three matches, and kindof opened it up at the end, just to keep the donations rolling in. I would have hated to cut it after the planned matches, or even iNc nuking me 2v1, because i think that we got more donations by airing it longer.
Incontrol was a great host and commentator and the event wouldn't have gotten the attention without his participation. He was a true professional all the way, and really should be looked to cast major events.
surprisingly, outside of GSL, this event had more money in it than anything else in NA. we're over $3000 raised and we kindof expect the VODs will raise that total some more.
and i didn't set up the diamonds vs. inControl. someone else called that tune.

Yeah, I feel ya. Probably doubled donations by keeping it on, I agree! Don't get me wrong, not hatin', I realize it was pretty impromptu and all the positive response was unexpected (but great!). I'm just excited for the prospect of the next one being even better.

Oh, I wasn't aware, not a big deal. Nobody likes seeing their favorite players get crushed in an unfair fight though
Thanks again mate, and good job! There's gonna be a lotta happy kids out there.
A very satisfying event overall. In the future I'd recommend against having the caster attempt to play and cast at the same time because that is actually super difficult, and I don't think any professional caster or gamer practices doing that. Of course when Incontrol was able to focus on casting, he brought extreme hilarity to the table. His colorful language, voice inflection, energy, and wit really make him a top notch caster, particularly suited for this event too. Ender and Callow are also extraordinarily ballsy for putting their terrible play on the line for everyone's enjoyment.
Thanks for creating this event. I know I enjoyed it, and I hope it greatly benefits its cause as well.
Trus hasn't seen me play since beta so I think that was kind of a misunderstanding on how bad I am. Once the game had started though I think playing it out was a better option than just saying "Oh wait we have two diamonds". As stopping and starting games has the potential to be harmful to an event.
Also Joe and the rest of the guys who put effort in on this (not me) you guys are champions.
Thanks to everyone that came and watched, thanks to everybody that donated, and a big thanks to Incontrol for commentating! We put this together haphazardly in only two weeks, but the next time we do something should be much better organized.
Fantastic matches. Was able to rope some of my non SC friends into watching the match over the Cornhuskers game here in Nebraska (sacrilege in this state btw :D). Great work incontrol.
I was disappointed by the fact that they didn't seem to be reading the IRC chat which was heavily requesting an Anna Prosser v Joe's Wife deathmatch. Other than that, was fantastic especially the first 1v1 Bronze, Incontrol is amazing.
VODs are on the way. Trus (the guy who's responsible for the VODs) is working on it, but is also dealing with finals for college as well. Please give him some time, the wait is certainly worth it.

Not exactly true - they did read those requests, but Joe's wife had already gone to sleep, so they didn't really consider it.

And your comment is not retarded? The kids busy, give him time - just like you were "busy". He'll get them up. If you go to a college/university you don't exactly have a lot of free time right now. I'm pretty sure that 50 kids shouting at him to get VoDs up aren't going to actually get them up faster. Patience is a virtue.

Why do people spew out retarded comments just because they can?

Wow, way to jump on the retard bandwagon.
He didn't demand the replays. He just explained why people might want them.
Honestly, get down off your soapbox. We know that it takes time. We're patient. Now hush.

Dude, you're doing a great thing! Get your school work handled, VoDs happen when they happen. People are just anxious to see the awesome event you and iNcontrol put on.

WhaT? First, isn't it in the title of the thread? Second, go download the TLA's from earlier in the year and tell me if you don't find that very amusing. He's a funny dude with tons of knowledge of the game.

Haha, almost the same here. I have been registered but never really posted, but this made me make my first "real more than 1 sentence"- post.
I think the big attraction here is, these "oh shit"-moments have happened to everyone of us,(maybe not as crass as in the teasers) so it's great fun to relate. Also top level pro play is a great sight to behold, but can tend to produce such predictable and boring play.(SCV-Marine push anyone?)
Add to that Incontrol, one of the few people that is abled to be funny, instead of trying, like some other casters..
And on top it's for a good cause? Count me in. I'll gladly give some donations if they are still open. Can't wait for the VODs!

Would be great if someone could also update the original post to include all those hilarious videos that are currently spread over a few pages. I would do it if I would be able to edit, but I guess only the OP can do it. This thread is awesome and deserves more spotlight!
I wanted to throw my 2 cents in here as to why I think this event was so great.
I'm a Gold Player. I watch Day9, I Listen to SotG, I watch fuck-tons of replays and I really want to get good at this game and I'm not sure why. I think that maybe succeeding is something I always strive for, but I lack the time and possibly the skills to become even a top 20% player. But I love this game! I love the community, I think it's incredible that you've created a sport out of a god damn video game, did anyone really think this was possible 10 years ago?
But it is an elitist community.
But now, in one fell swoop this event has not only mobilised thousands of players to watch, and cheer, and feel for guys that are only just getting a feel for the way the game works, not only has it inspired THOUSANDS of hard-ass (and yes, you guys are hard asses) TL members to tune in, chat, and discuss the play of mere beginners, you have raised THREE FUCKING GRAND for a children's hospital. 3 grand! What would any one of you do with that much money? We haven't really focused on this yet.
3 thousand dollars spent on games consoles, games, controllers, headsets, everything that might make these kids' lives just a tiny little bit better. But not just kids in the hospital now, kids that will be entering it for years to come. PS3 and XBox's, well these will last for years, and the charity (Childs Play) that created this situation has been going for at least 5 years by my count, will continue to supplement these wonderful gifts for as long as the internet continues. Penny Arcade is one of the largest gaming websites on the web, and raises over 1 million dollars every year so that sick kids can enjoy some gaming while they get treatment and recover. Now that PA has reached out to, and I hope touched the TL community, we can do so much more! If PA can raise a million, how much can TL achieve?
We can do more, we can do better, this was the FIRST TRY. $3k is just the beginning! If every viewer of the cast had given a dollar each, we'd have doubled the amount given already. If we'd charged for the cast like the GSL, god knows what would have happened. I cannot wait to see what we do next.
I'm a little bit drunk so I am going to bed, but I am fucking proud of this community right now. If this is going to be a legit sport people sit up and take notice of, it's events like this that will make it happen.

I agree. Well Said!
I am not even a Gold player (Bronze). I watch pro games, watch day9, and these days think I have a fairly good theoretical understanding of the game, but just can't pull it all together yet. It help watching other games of people like me, makes me feel more normal
For all of you bronzies I have something to say if you want to improve...
Just keep playing.
Getting a grasp of this game is hard and takes years. I played Broodwar for 2 years and only got to D+ in iccup.
I'm still playing (caught 2 weeks of beta) and I'm more or less at 2k diamond (decent for a casual player, but still no where close to many of the veterans in this forum)
The thing is, I've enjoyed all my games since the beginning, because I never saw it as a chore or a task, I just played and had fun, listened to tips and pointers and just kept playing.
If you just keep playing you'll eventually become better, play on your free time, enjoy yourself, and learn. A couple of years from now you'll have the game down.
btw, this event was an excellent initiative, I hope we see some vods soon!

lol same
I have checked every 8-12 hours since Sunday... If you have a look at the views on this topic, it is apparent that a lot of other people are doing the same thing. My donation is ready... bring on the VODs!

We should have done a Bo3 for the Micro/Macro game.
A Bo5 for the diamonds might have been better, but at least one of those guys had serious nerves. (i really don't think that you get a good measure of a matchup until a Bo5)
and while a Bo7 would have been great for entertainment, Callow/hlprmnky would be hospitalized with PTSD from the pressure. I've talked with him, and game 4 he should have A-Moved to victory, but his brain shut down from the "pressure". You never know how you'll react until you're there.
So, for all you players that have nerves when laddering - I've got a great way to overcome them. Have iNcontrol cast you playing to over 3500+ simultaneous viewers. Not much intimidates me in that regard anymore.
intro video so racist, i did not see one terran in there doing something scrubby! like manner blocking his geyser with a depot and never lowering it hahaha
,,Uh ... 4 Mutas moving into the red's base, I can't wait to see his reaction. Does he warp in Zealots? Does he warp in sentries? Does he warp in Mutas? HE CAN'T WARP IN ANYTHING HE'S SUPPLY BLOCKED! How incredibly ... predictable. "
Oh iNcontroL, you always have some of the funniest things to say, and doing it for such a worthy cause too. I am looking forward to you casting other games, seriously or otherwise, in the future.
So many good laughs. Thanks for playing guys its great that you were willing to put yourself out there for such a good cause ^_^.
edit: The greedy protoss unsatisfied with the amount of minerals he has banked and has decided to move on and horde the minerals from the next location. Ah that made me cry.
Wow. That was a very very well put together event. First, I lolol'd. Then, raged. Then came the tears. So fun to watch. loved the promos, I laughed my ass off. Thank you!
