FAQ:
Is the tournament BYOC? For those who will be in the TOP 8, NO! Everyone else, yes. What do I need to do to play in this tournament? Be available at ALL times listed Do I need to live in the Americas? YES! How do I sign up? Sign ups will be in this thread. You need your US server name & character code. PLEASE WRITE THIS CORRECTLY! Incorrectly entered information may result in you being forfeit. How many people can sign up? 64 MAX! If you're after 64, outta luck (there will be multiple events though) "Can I replace someone in the bracket who didn't show up?" Depends, just ask. "How do I report matches?" There should be a report page on the site after the bracket is launched. ONLY report the game if you are the winner. DO NOT REPORT IF YOU LOST THE GAME. Disconnects: re-game if no significant action has occurred. If there is a large advantage, the player with the advantage wins. My opponent doesn't exist: Report a win. My opponent didn't show up / afk: Report a win. Can my gang of fans obs my games? No, only official casters can obs games unless both players specifically agree. Who can cast games? You can stream your own games if you want, only officially sanctioned staffers will be allowed to stream matches (contact me if you want to be considered). I have a question that isn't answered here: EMAIL westerngamingleague@gmail.com
There currently aren't any times listed, although it says they will be posted soon how can people sign up knowing they will be available at ALL times if they don't know when it is. Also, I'm not sure I understand the rules. A $2000 tournament prize pool with a 64 player cap, first people to sign up are in? Am I misunderstanding something here?

No you aren't misunderstanding anything.
Before I can post times, I have to get my budget approved by the Campus Activities Board and our anticipated starting time will be in February of next year. I know this is relatively early but I wanted to make sure I could get 64 people before that time signed up.
On December 09 2010 13:30 iCCup.Diamond wrote: Is this an online or offline event??
Both, players are allowed to be either offline or online. We will have all kinds of goodies though at the event! The 10 reserved are for offline players already registered I just have to put them into the list.
Yeah I'm a little confused are there two separate online and offline things that will be going? I want to come down from GR if the dates work out. So.. signing up for offline:
iSin.442 I'm from up in Big Rapids so I'll be available to come play in a live event. Also GET IN TOUCH WITH iccup.Diamond he's from sterling heights and having iccup.tv involved will be huge for you guys
Edit: Drop the best of 1 there is no reason to allow something cheesy knock out a better player if the tournament is (mostly) online.

As of last night, we just put up a posters and flyers inside the WMU student center and next stop is dorms.
If you would like to attend the OFFLINE portion please specify on your sign-up so we can have a head-count for the event.
I'll probably be there for the offline event, as well as kidnapping mooncow and bringing him there if i can get off work.
Edit: You might also wanna consider the timing of the SLP that is going on in feb. i'd love to attend both offline events, so its its possible try to not schedule them on top of each other =)

64 is easier to manage and the maps were chosen very carefully, and by carefully I mean by random. WTr1BE may change the maps around, depends on feedback and having Bo1 puts people on edge and makes for exciting first rounds! Better bring your A-game if you wanna win!
We may also expand to more than 64 players, again depends on feedback and how much of a workload more people will bring.
I don't think scrap is so much zerg favored as it isn't terran favored. I think it's pretty fair. That natural isn't any easier to hold than the one on jungle basin.
Not sure if this is all i have to do to sign up or if there is any room left but worth a shot. The site listed on the original post doesn't have any helpful information.

Well it looks like i did it right then any idea when the bracket will be posted and dates/times? Not sure if i made my post in time to make the field of 64.
about the not being able to replace no shows, problem with this is especially when hosting sign ups this far in advanced is.. alot of no shows come tournament time. so if you don't allow replacement and expect everyone to be there who signed up 2 months prior your probably looking at a 20+ man tournament with all the no-shows and what not.
I go to K college so I should be able to attend the offline event, although I´m out of the country for a portion of February (in Spain right now) so I´d need to know a more specific date to be sure.
Sounds like a ton of fun though, glad someone is doing stuff with SC2 at WMU!
*edit* Oh looks like its too late to sign up, didnt see that there was 0 spots . . . whatever

There is an update on the offline matches. The final 8 will participate on-site in Kalamazoo, Michigan. If you are unable to make this and have already signed up I do apologize. Within the coming weeks I will PM everyone already signed up to confirm that they can indeed appear at the designated date to play in the matches.

Every Tuesday/Friday in Kalamazoo Michigan, at The Odyssey (Formerly TItan Games & Music) game store @5:30pm on campus we play SC2, Super Street Fighter 4, L4D2 and DJ Hero amongst many others.
This is the start of us building competitive SC2 gaming in Michigan.
And like someone else said, they do a lot of console tournaments near detroit and ann arbor really.

I saw that the bracket has been posted on the website and i'm super excited for march madness Im posting just because im curious on how we will be invited to games during the online prelims during the week. Will we be PMd the day before telling us to be on during a certain time, or will we just be required to be online for the entire 10 hour span waiting for an invite?
So are we still gonna use the original map pool that was posted? I understand the tournament was organized months ago, but most of those maps are outdated and suck. Nobody is even practicing on them anymore.

Although the maps were updated on the ladder system, we will not be changing the map pool.

So wait. I understand the official blizzard pool has changed recently, but...
I don't quite agree with organizing a tournament, then changing the map pool a mere 3-4 days before games are being played, especially when some of the games have already been played.
That just seems very, very, very wrong to me, and although it doesn't really affect me personally, it's unfair to those who have already played their games, or have been practicing on the maps which were announced quite some time ago.

Yeah, but it's also unfair to make Zerg players play on Steppes, Jungle Basin, LT to an extent, etc. Most of these maps have blatant racial advantages and disadvantages (PvT 4 gate on Blistering Sands anyone.)
The fact that desert oasis is included is more than enough reason to warrant a change in maps.
And it wouldn't be like they'd be getting rid of Metalopolis, Scrap Station, or Xel'Naga. Most of the good maps would be staying.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait wait wait wait wait. I don't think you carefully considered that long enough. I need to have you talk to IcCupDiamond or something. You cannot honestly tell me we will be having a $2,000 tournament in March in which we will be playing on STEPPES OF WAR, JUNGLE BASIN, and BLISTERING SANDS. These maps were long ago proven not only to be imbalanced, but also catered to terrible games. I'm sorry, but that's just a joke and honestly would be embarrassing for you guys. Please reconsider.
Also, think about how unfair it is to those of us who play consistently on the ladder. Jungle basin, Shakuras Plateau, Blistering Sand, Steppes of War have already all been removed from the ladder map pool, meaning most of us no longer practice on them. Now you're telling me I have to make customs and find people willing to practice these bad maps just because you guys refuse to change your pool?
It would be one thing if you kept the original map pool, except for say the most ridiculous maps, most of which everyone agrees should not be played (Steppes, Jungle, Blistering, maybe even Delta), and kept in LT, Metal, Scrap, Xel'Naga. But to have us playing on all those maps....jesus. Just no.
I understand your complaint luzzuma and I think the best course of action will have to be a Poll, we'll set one up on the www.wtr1be.com website for the players to come and vote their opinions. So please spread the message and make sure you've registered to our forum so we can have you vote. Thank you for the inquiry!
We apologize for the inconvenience however the timing of this tournament is awkward with the recent release of the new maps. (it's literally just been days) But if the majority of players are willing to toss the old ones out we'll cater to their demands. Majority however will have to rule so let's make sure we get a good turn out of poll contributors.
Let me repshrase this, these old Blizzard maps are bad and you should look at the changing them in the spirit of fair competition. This is such an awesome tournament lets not let maps slow it down from being the best event in MI history!

I can't get my account to activate on there, what are the 9 maps?
I mean... I'm supposed to play my match in less than 2 days and I don't know what maps are being used, the pool is changing from what people originally signed up for, and some matches have ALREADY BEEN PLAYED using a different map pool than the rest of the matches will.
I'm totally game regardless of the map pool, but it just seems very 'not right' to me, and I wouldn't be surprised if I bomb out in the first or second round simply because I don't have a lot of experience on every map in the 'potential pool' and I don't know what maps I'm supposed to be practicing on.

The map pool has been set and the games that were played have been played on the new map pool.
Previous map pool contained maps that were god awful maps that blizzard accidentally created.
There are no longer issues with the map pool. All matches have been and will be played on the current map pool.

I don't think he event has a TL account, I signed him up.
My opponent was online earlier (away) and I messaged him to game but he has since signed off. I'm still available and will be in the channel.

So this goes live in roughly 8 minutes? I havent heard a word from anyone, nobody has given me contacts with the people I'm supposed to cast with and the only people I know related to this are afk. Hopefully someone from wtribe can contact me hm?
Why does the bracket say that some of these were best of 5's and others were best of 1's? Cruncher 3-0'd his first few rounds while some other players just 1'0'd. What am I missing here?

Sheth it was a real pleasure having you @ the lan. I had a blast hanging out with you and all the players. It was a great success and I have to say BeefSUPREME and WTNaGa did an amazing job setting up and running the event. The matches were epic and hopefully you and the rest of the players will be back for the next one!
