FnaticMSI's PLAY hosts tournaments for many games and is now branching off into Starcraft 2! Our first tournament will feature 256 players (open registration), and about $3,000 in prize pool including a fabulous MSI GT laptop for the 1st place winner. There will be $500 in cash prizes and products from SteelSeries and Bigfoot Networks as well!
The tournament begins Sunday February 6th at 19 CET and will be a single elimination bracket -- finishing all in one day! Also, the tournament will be played on the EU server!
Casting: The casting will be done by none other than the UK's Finest, TotalBiscuit!!! TotalBiscuit is one of the best up and coming casters and I for one am excited to see his games cast this Sunday.

Awesome, I hope all the good players get to play in this. 256 players seems like very few for such a high prize pool.
|
Might look to increase player pool depending on the # of signups ~~
|
So this starts 7.5 hours before the Superbowl. Tough choice! Great to see more high stakes tournaments though!
|
Begins around same time as Super Bowl Sunday.

Gretorp casting? Awesome, I loved his duo stuff he did with Sheth recently for some clan wars.
Some good sign ups so far, could be awesome =)

SuperBowl in europe is nothing!

Aww man, I have to work the Superbowl and wont be able to make it =(

Sorry, but can I ask why it starting so late on saturday? Would be propably much easier to people play in, if it would start ~14:00-15:00pm >_<

99.99% of Europeans do not care about some hand-egg tournement, so please read the OP before posting "conflict with superbowl omgz" as it clearly states that it is a European tournement.

Looking forward to the tournament. Go KawaiiRice!

Nobody is freaking out about it, some people were merely pointing out the potential conflict in the US in regards to playing in or watching the tournament. I imagine there will be a lot of great games and I am disappointed I will not be watching it live. Nobody is asking to reschedule or anything.

By 7PM EST, or 2AM CET, I'd guess there will be less than 8 people still in the tournament. They don't really matter. However one might hope for around 2000-3000 viewers to be watching it. Because of the time of day and day of the week and the demographics of TL, most TL visitors watching it will not be European. It doesn't matter if 1 in 10,000 Europeans is interested in the Super Bowl. This tournament's numbers will still suffer a bit because of the Super Bowl. However I doubt it'll be a big deal and I'm sure Xeris concluded the same and is gonna run a great tournament anyway.
Also, "handegg" is just about the worst piece of observational comedy I've ever seen.

The fnatic site is so weird. It took my like 20 minutes to create an account a few days ago and register for the tourney. Now i wanted to log in again to check if the signup actually worked and it told me that the email adress is not registered.. weirdly enough i could retrieve my password to that emailadress but login still doesnt work now. whatever. i just hope it works on the day of the tourney for reporting -_-
|
yeah the website keeps logging me out and when i go to signup it wont even let me log back in again

Got nothing against american football it's just that in europe and in the rest of the world football actually means playing a ball with your foot ;D
You guys run around and throw it with the hand and only kick it sometimes.. and we have a similar sport in rugby that many more europeans prefer over USA football!
But usa football is fine it's just not so popular here!

Sc2 is my professional sport of choice (esport that is). While my lame friends watch football, I watch starcraft.
Lasers, tanks, space marines, aliens, invisible ninjas > Meatheads running into each other (Said in jest, don't flame!)
TBH I don't even know the rules to football, lol! I'll be watching for sure, go MSI for encouraging SC2!

checkin will be ready 1 hour before the tournament, and will be instead of the registration button

8 hours until show time !
Xeris remember to add the event to the calender ^__^ <3

Argh Can't wait. I'll get smashed but on the off chance I get to play against a pro like HuK WhiteRa Mondragon (first time I've seen him since reading his advice in the Brady Games guide ) etc will more than make up for it.
By the way I have a question. Is TB attending some of the matches and streaming/casting live?

Yes casting will be done live! 1.5 hours till start

Why is this not in the TL sidebar?

Nope, the casting is delayed by an hour because we aren't casting the RO256.

The tournament started, but we won't start the cast itself until 20 CET ! Some of the players who signed up failed to check-in. Unfortunately, the system is very automated and doesn't allow us to manually edit these things T__T

I love these open tournaments but I'm so intimidated when I see real professionals in with me in these tournaments with me.

DIMAGA vs BRAT_OK in the ro 128. what!! can this be the best ro128 match ever? or will it be the saddest and worst planned out event in the history of SC2?

TT1, Fenix, and Qxc missed it ~_~
really unfortunate, but this is what I got to work with
hopefully, this is a sign that I can tell the web people to make us a better and more efficient system for future events

TLO vs Cruncher possible in the next round. That's going to be interesting.

Nerchio: *Has some sentries, 7 zealots or so*: Time to just apply some early pressure. *whistles*
*goes to dimagas base, sees 25 roaches* Nerchio: Woo Dimago: Yo.
Are there gonna be more casters? For a tournament of this magnitude its sad to see we are only able to see a few select games.

PvP is fun with TLO!
Seriously, how has TLO gotten so good at protoss. It used to be that was his weakest matchup, as shown in the HDH tournament final where he was up (2-0?) and then got protoss 3 times vs white ra and lost all those games.
Really interesting how he manages to make these seemingly "weird" builds really really viable.
|
Oh wow, TLO is doing the Nony build!
+ Show Spoiler +He's using phoenixes*
I lost faith in TLO for a while with the whole race switching and that, but man, I really shouldn't have. He's really tearing shit up these days.

He always used to be Protoss in Starcraft, even back then when he was 9 years old and we first played it over LAN.
He just had a small misunderstanding with them during Beta

Very possible TLO vs White-Ra in ro16. It feels like every time they are both in a tournament, TLo and white-ra play each other. (unfortunately, TLO always loose)

Ofcause he dont make sentries when he already knew whitera had blink, had whitera went 4 gate most likely there would be a sentry.

Nightend is an absolute beast, people dont seem to recognise this?
I mean, it was a PvP BO1....so nothing is 'proven' about who is better blah blah.
But nobody should be suprised that nightend can beat HuK - I would give him every chance in a BO3/5/7.
|
sjow hasn't won vs bly yet btw, he still needs to qualify for ro8
|
blurgh. I think huk has lost his way in korea. I watch his stream and its hour after hour of cannons every vZ and starjeweled.

Nightend is probably the most underrated protoss-player right now - currently I'd put him above Socke who has kinda slumped recently and on the same level of Mana and Adel. Though probably still below WhiteRa.
He deserves more attention, maybe he can finally make a breakthrough in this tourney?

I don't think that Nightend is underrated, he is good and can beat anybody on a good day but he doesn't win that much. Europe has many players who can beat anyone.
But Nightend was actually the first known player Huk had to play, so it's kinda sad for Huk, because he couldn't show anything. I don't think that a PvP Bo1 says much, though.

Great from Inso, he's been playing sick lately
|
wow insolence rly has improved a lot lately :D
|
|
Wow, that was one sided. GJ Inso, Ra got rolled. Felt like he wasn't quite playing up to snuff though, he saw the blink stalkers with his observer yet still went in with the warp prism, lost the colossus needlessly and.. Yeah, what the hell
Not to take anything away from Inso, he played that very well.
|
Nooooo White-ra ): First HuK and now White-ra!! Come onnn Protoss heroes.
|
I gotta tell ya, the blink mind games that Inso played put me on tilt watching. Great play, hate playing against that style.
|
just have to say that total biscuit never fails to entertain. such a great caster. This tourney as well has produced great quality games.
|
Insolence rising !
If any of you wonder, he actually takes this year as a progamer year and takes it only for playing, so i think we should see really good games from him in the next time.

Especially after this game vs WhiteRa we could definitely argue about that
In my comment I was thinking about nightend's performance in black dragon league. He is 4:1 there, taking down Dimaga, Satinii, Lalush and bratok all 2:0 - his only loss was 1:2 vs elfi, who we all know is a nightmare to PvP against.
|
Dear god...I hope Cloud destroys NightEnd just for dissing Huk.
|
did anyone see nightend vs huk? perhaps it was easy...
|
any restreams btw? it lags every 5s for me -,-
|
^ And most underrated terran could be cloud. Well not sure tbh, but I am always rooting for this guy because he sometimes plays so amazingly well and then again chokes so hard.

If anything he was overrated early after release...sadly, because he is such a nice guy
Most underrated terran is definitely Goody. Nobody likes his passive style and forget that it's ridiculously effective and that he actually owns most players out there consistently. Goody playing a TvT on lost temple could even make marineking rethink his life.
EDIT: if anybody gets a hand on the huk-game, PLEASE upload and link, I'd love to see that too.

TvP masterclass by Cloud.

I don't like Nightend's Colossi play. He should play more gateway heavy like MC or Adelscott.

TB, you really need to MAKE SURE you have the game screen up when you're casting.
edit: seems like a technical error rather than a judgement one.

So, what's happening? Who's advancing so far? What round is being casted?

TB casting Strelok vs Cloud on Metalopolis .. Strelok seems to be on a different level to ClouD but ClouD is catching up..
Streloks multitasking is destroying ClouD - he is dropping all over the place, spreading ClouD out
+ Show Spoiler +Cloud GG's Strelok 1 : 0 ClouD

wow strelok just tearing it up on metalopolis against cloud. Man that was GSL class entertainment.
|
crazy good game and crazy awesome caster <3
|
strelok outclassed cloud!

That was some fantastic play from Strelok, had Cloud running all over the map with drops and siege positioning, and all the while getting up to 5 bases and maintaining super tight macro back at home.

just tuned in. in which round are we and who is in the last rounds?

GG, 1-1!

In my opinion Cloud had a bit too many Marines & and too few Marauders. Good decision making though. GG !
Nice commentary btw... English accent is definitely sweet.

Nice from Cloud! This is a really tight series, not sure I would feel remotely comfortable calling the winner in the decider xD
Whatever happens, Cloud is having a pretty great weekend ^_^

Just finished studying and now I can finally relax with TOTALBISCUIT!!

Strelok back in green, the world is once again sane.

This tournament has provided some really kick ass, close series.. a lot of them are going down to the wire.. so amazing! Such a positive result!
Tight series between Strelok and ClouD being played now on Xel'Naga - game 3! TotalBiscuit (quite possibly the funniest man alive) casting!
ClouD! ClouD!!!! ClouD!!!!
+ Show Spoiler +Epic flank by ClouD at Strelok's gold takes out his CC and a large portion of his bio.. ClouD just pushes to tank out Strelok's tanks and Strelok GGs Strelok 1 : 2 ClouD Sjow takes down Inso in a base trade scenario SjoW 2 : 1 Inso Coming up.. SjoW verses ClouD in a Bo5 for the finals!

LOL, another player trying to exploit Sjow's lack of scouting :D
|
lol
do you guys remember the Sjow not scouting thread? And the comments that he would not be able to defend cheese without scouting?
Thank you SjoW for showing us how it is being done<3<3<3

Sjow plays solid builds that fend off cheese well and only scouts when it's absolutely necessary.

Yes, Sjow probably just missed the siege and then had a WTF moment...

I think that economic opening + scouting banshees sent sjow way too behind to ever catch up. Well played by cloud.

sick upgrades from cloud. was sjow still 0/0?

Now, can he overcome his nerves to claim the win, or will Sjow be typically clutch in yet another finals?

hoping so badly that cloud wins..

I want Cloud to win so badly aswell. This guy is a solid player. Its time he gets rewarded for it.

Pfff zergs think they can 14 hatch .. ClouD just introduced 14 CC to TvT :p lol would be awesome for ClouD to win! Go go go!!
|
The real question is: will sjow scout ?
|
I like how Cloud's 1-rax fe looks like safe play after that 14 CC. :-)
|
Why is Sjow refusing to scout? He would easily have won the game on jungle basin if he scouted, at one point it was 7 marines and 1 hellion vs 2 of Clouds marines. He could even have scouted with the hellion. I mean, how often does he win games because of the minerals he gained from not scouting? I've seen several games where he loses because he didn't scout. Seems stupid.

I know that's his reasoning but if he wouldn't change his build if he scouts a 14 or 15 command center that's an even bigger flaw in his play.

Cloud depending a bit too much on his doom drops.

Not scouting will nip any player in the butt eventually. Cloud is really exploiting him with the drop pokes.

Cloud really seems to have improved lately. I guess he watched some MKP :p But the style really seems to fit him.
It funny how sjow had that game but just running 20 unsupported marines into the production of sjow completely turned the game around. Siege tank proving to be just a bit too slow.

Is it just me that's getting really f'ing sick of Tv(Insertrandomrace) When terrans just go marines, marauders and medivacs? My dislike for this style really started the last GSL when I saw marineking's matches.
I am not a good enough player to state weather or not mmm is to strong but from I have seen I'd really like a nerf on those units to increase the fun factor of watching TvIRR.
|
Cloud is just a player that only shine's recently because of style. He does have a very macro intensive style, it take's time to adjust to the cheese's and creative playstyles of the others. But once he is on a roll, he gets really strong, just like morrow is doing with z.

You really have to be playing solid and have an economic edge to win a long TvT w/o tanks, unless you get really lucky. If Sjow had an economic lead and thus presumably fully upgraded tanks and the capability to spread his forces more and do drops of his own, Cloud's decision to go MMM would have looked ridiculous. It wasn't to be, though, and Cloud played excellently.

I don't understand how people are sick of the MMM style of play at all.
BW was the same way in tvz pure Marine/medic like all game yet nobody complained about that.
I like the way tvz is looking with MM/Tank makes for exciting matches when the terrans aren't all inning.
tvp is kind of looking like mech will be viable along with going MMM just takes some more refining for the mech before its legitimately viable as right now people are experimenting but not knowing the best ways to do it yet.
