SC2QC and LAN ETS are proud to announce the next big SC2 Tournament in Montreal. The LAN ETS 2011, one of the biggest LAN happening in Canada is coming on March 11th through 13th.
The SC2 portion of the LAN ETS will feature a prize pool of $2500 and could be bigger depending on the number of registrants. This is a BYOC (Bring your own computer) event.
Well i could update them but it wouldn't be the truth. End of tournamenent was canceled because of Internet outage. So remaining 5 players split the prize pool.
Kiwi 675 Fayth and AlexCMoi -425 Attero and sLush - 300
COVERAGE Tournament coverage will be available on site by QcStarcraft (french casters) and Torte de Lini (english caster). There will also be player interviews so feel free to send me questions you want to ask to the players and i'll choose a few.
Online coverage will be provided by ICCup TV throughout the week-end.
Map pool :
The tournament will use the same map pool as the MLG as we think it's fair and more balanced than the B.net ladder map pool. This is the final map pool :

About the prize pool, it will mostly depend on the number of contestants. But chances are it's gonna be top 12 like last time since prize pool is fairly similar.
Since i know the scene better, ill try to even up the groups better this time.

Hey, you guys did a good job with both the Quebec Lan and last WCG so I have faith in yall.
Still unsure. I live literally diagonal from ETS (I'm in the new condos they put up, near that Metro supermarket!), so BYOC usually isn't a problem for me, it's just the fee!
Nonetheless, I'll try and inform the Concordia Starcraft Community about it try and get some of the members to sign up!
TT1, I'mma be on the lookout for you bro!
P.S: do you guys have any commentators or streamers? I'd love to contribute in some way or fashion!

I believe the Admin crew for sc2qc has French stream up for semis/finals. Something in English would be more appropriate for the team liquid audience. Contact them, the more the merrier

I'm assuming Attero is going to be there as well. Would love to see him take the title or AlexCMoi. Tossed him a P.M, we'll see how it turns out.

You don't mean the Lowney right? I didn't know there were new condos in front of ETS.
I'll be meeting a friend tonight (6pm) at the sports room of phase 5 of the lowney, we'll discuss some 3RR and protoss response while running, if any of you lives there!

Yes we can (Obama style). You can choose your place after buying your ticket (I think mine is directly in front of Kiwikakis', time to steal some build :F).
It will be fun playing in my home city glad to see montrealers stepping up to the plate and bringing this event once again - was not able to participate in the last one - now I get to meet all the Montreal players!

Hey dude! I didn't toss you a p.m, but now I'm thinking I should. Speaking of NSpace, I just passed him this morning as he got out of a taxi to go to class, not sure why I didn't tap him on the shoulder. He's been an in and out member of our's here at the CSC (Concordia Starcraft Community).
While I have you reading this: where's AlexCMoi? Thought for sure he'd come.
Anyways, cheers. I'll be looking out for ya; There's a possibility I might be casting (I really hope so), so if you got any tips or ideas, let me know!
Would love to see some Concordia's student doing some shoutcast for the english viewers (Torte/Nirano, I support you :D ).
Btw, we have to bring our computer, but can we play with all day long and leave the place for the night ? I don't see myself sleeping there (Living in Laval, don't want to bring 10 tons of stuff for 2 days), or leaving my computer while I'm away.

So yeah TT1, register please.
I'll see if I can talk him into it. Worst comes to worst, maybe I can give him my PC or a laptop or something.
Any reason why someone would dislike BYOC?
Really excited to either help out or cast for LANETS! I just hope I don't let anyone down!

Lol. My bad. :p Disregard.....
I was going to edit my post to ensure that I hope to work with you guys and with LANETS (and that I'm not as excellent as you guys), but then you p.med me :B
But yeah, Monx is fine with it, just need the official okay from the other admins!

that won't happen. and JF could play on your comp or your friend's if you or your friend doesn't play in the tournament i believe.
I know guys. This is lame but i can't do shit about it. If i see tickets going on sale ill update this thread asap. But like desrow said, i don't think it will happen.
Maybe in the future we can consider a larger venue eh? As time progresses and more games come out and more people talk about LANETS, the more popular it's going to get.
Just adding a SSBB tournament draws in people from Toronto and Manitoba (there was a small one a few years back and drew in a lot of players. Had a great time!)

Exactly. Since this is organized by students at ETS and they receive a budget from the university for the LAN they can offer a good price for the tickets but otherwise it would be ridiculous. When i said register now, i was serious

ITS okay, its only a 2days ban besides i dont think theres any HUGE announcements that the ETS is doing in the 2 upcoming days^^ even tho i think they were saying they might get more seats so if its fully booked stay tune on lanets.ca ! :D
just a heads up for those who will participate in the tournament.
The map pool will be almost the same as the current ladder so the new maps will be included. Old maps such as Steppes of war, Blistering sands, Jungle Basin, Lost Temple will be removed. Shakuras Plateau will remain in the map pool tough.
So the map pool is pretty much this :
Shakuras Plateau Scrap Station Xel Naga Caverns Backwater Gulch Delta Quadrant Metalopolis Slag Pits The Shattered Temple Typhon Peaks
just a heads up for those who will participate in the tournament.

but after some testing, i agree that ill probably have to change the maps again as some of the new ones are really bad especially for protoss. I dont want to put GSL maps since not all people have played on them and i dont want to give any edge to a player.

just put new LT meta XELNAGA scrap and shakuras. 5 map gonna be a tad boring for bo7 but 5 balance map > diversity
We'll see but 5 maps is kinda low. There will probably be a veto system for the double elimination tournament (not group stages) so it wont matter that much. But i am continually following the scene and adjust based on feedback of pro players. What race you play desrow? P ?

I play protoss yea but new maps are some awful. I wouldn't say the same if I were zerg but yea... :\ =( I've been practicing a lot for this tournament and only 2 weeks to get used to new maps is kinda sad ;/

Yes that's why i think i wont use all of the new maps. Probably a mix of both old maps and new ones. The official map pool will probably be revised and announced in the next few days after discussions with some impartial people and players.
yeah i know it's sad it's sold out. Next time, i'll try to post the thread even earlier so more people can come.
After messaging monx in private (in french), i am sure he will make the best/non bias decision about the map pool. looking forward to see how it will go down
Iccup test bug seems a really nice map (never tried it huhu :/), I'm just worried about Crossfire, seems to be much more complex to assimilate, and no time to pratice on it (well maybe friday night :D).

Everyone is in the same boat if irregular maps are added to the pool, and those who practice on them the most will be at an advantage, just like any other event.

As for the mappool being announced one week before-hand, it's not that large of an issue. They shouldn't be new maps for those who take the LAN as seriously as you [or others] do.
Though your motivation to go to the LAN is a bit troublesome, but that's your choice.
As for Twistacles; bro, you and I will go to make friends and talk about Starcraft 2!
Anybody wanna hit up Reuben's after the LAN or something? A bit short-notice, but if you need a place to dump your equipment and head out to a late-ass dinner, my condo is literally diagonal from LANETS
Cheers :3 Hope to see you guys all there.

It's so easy for you to say that as a "manager". That kind of shitty situation happens every once in a while to us "players" and there's nothing we can do about it. I was just annoyed that kaki and fayth mention the mlg map pool on the ETS forums and in split seconds, the admin took that map pool. =)

That's weird, I do not expect to win at all and I don't think I'm worse than he is, shud go to these for fun, it's not like the prize money is life changing or anything
Since there will be a lot of amateurs (like me) who play only on ladder maps, it could have been more convenient to choose only ladder maps for the tournament (even if some of them are bad). As far as I know, it's not an invitation-only / pro event, so by taking a MLG map-pool, you give to te pros an unnecessary advantage, since they already know them (on the other hand you give to the event an additionnal pro-oriented dimension, which is quite good for E-sport here in Montreal).
But, as an amateur, I also know that I don't have a single chance to win, but it's not a big deal because my main goal is to have fun and having a chance to play / see very strong player, so I don't really care about the map pool. I'm gonna pratice a little on them on Friday night and veto them as much as (if) I can, that's it :D.
Maybe for next year, an earlier announcement of the map pool would be more convenient . Anyway, I'M READY TO HAVE FUN $$!!

At the end of the day, I'm a competitor. Obviously I'm going there to have fun and show good games but I have the rights to be pissed about the sudden change of map pool. It's 1 week before the tournament and I have 0 preparations on these maps and I want is to show good games.
And yes, I am aware that the prize pool is not life changing. Like I said, it happens in other tournaments too. It's just really unfortunate/unprofessional to pick maps one week before a lan.

I hate testbug from the bottom of my heart, crossfire is decent.
I'm really excited for this. They managed to add some seats so I was with friends and the managers have been pretty chill. I'm also happy with the ladder maps but that's mainly because I'm Zerg and since Crossfire is an old map and I played probably as often as the new ladder maps on it. The new ladder maps are mostly trash so the only map I sort of disagree to is Testbug but that's because it's an MLG map. I don't think one map is going to change the whole competition though, I'd say Testbug is probably a pretty damn good map if they added it in MLG.
We'll have to see, this is going to be awesome.
Je vais être au Rubens aussi et je parle français! Good luck have fun les mecs

Yes, be mad, throw a fit, pout, tantrum. Do what you want. I think the issue here is that you were a bit lashing towards someone who didn't make the decision and just trying to rationalize the whole thing for you.

Yes, be mad, throw a fit, pout, tantrum. Do what you want. I think the issue here is that you were a bit lashing towards someone who didn't make the decision and just trying to rationalize the whole thing for you.
That's really the only issue.
MLG announce their map pool 1 month and 2 weeks before their first tournament. GSL announce their new maps at least 1month before their new season and they host several KOTH about it. What does ETS do ? Announce their map pool 1 week before the lan. Good freaking game.

Hey. I just read the FAQ about the visitor's hours... 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.? Are you kidding me? Is there a way for me to come see the games live and meet the players, or just hang out? Participating in the tournament is out of the question for me anyway, but I live really not so far away, so...

That's a mistake. It is 8am to 11pm. In another section of the site it goes like this: "Visitors must respect the opening hours of the hall, from 8:00 to 23:00. It will not be permitted for any visitor to be present outside these hours. Participants with a ticket can access the event at any time."

Well last time it was 8am to 11pm too so i would be very surprised if they changed it for no reason.
I am glad iCCup TV is back on board to cover the event. That should give us a nice visibility for the tourney.
@desrow : Sorry i can't fulfill all your desires about the map pool, but last time map pool was announced like 1 week before too and it wasn't a big deal. You gotta understand that i am doing this on my free time and it's pretty limited these past weeks.
@dde : Yes you're gonna get a veto for the double elimination tournament (the real thing). The qualifiers (round-robin) are gonna be forced on assigned maps.

Yea I can understand, at least you give us a veto. I could go back and edit all my qq but this thread would look retarded so yeah. can't wait for tomorrow ^_ ^
Just got a lot of practice in, ICCup will be broadcasting and it turns out I like honey and warm milk. Going to be a good day :3 Gonna need to stop by subway or something to pick up food so I don't need to leave during the LAN!
Oh, I wanted to add that I wish I could win that Tritton headset, that shit is fucking hot as hell ):
So if everyone is showing up tonight, it would be the better night to get together? As there is no play until 1030, and it is the easier stage of the tournament.

Actually, you can pay for a Guest pass, and it's free for visitors. Guests can access the sleeping area, showers, etc. I think they can also win free stuff, but don't quote me on that.
And yeah, in French: "Les visiteurs peuvent venir assister à l'événement librement sans acheter de billet, mais ont un accès limité. Les heures d'ouverture sont de 8h AM à 11h PM. Ne donne pas accès aux services secondaires."
Well as I understood, you can come for free, but limited to the visitor area ( which must be in a certain distance from players). If you give 10$, you can be on the same area than players.
Hahaha I can't believed i miss this live and wasn't there to watch this with you guys. But the youtube video already makes my week-end and the whole tourney hasn't even started out yet. Thanks again Artosis, very nice of you. We're all pumped now and this should be amazing.
Torte de Lini to cast some epic games and iCCup.tv too. Brackets will be posted around 10:30 EST

No observers in the games unfortunately, however I will try and get some of Max's games, tell him to not lose so I can get around to his games.
I know ICCup.tv will want to cast some of the bigger names, I do as well, however, I want to also cast the little guys too, especially when the early matches, it'll just be the starting matches. I forgot the word I'm looking for.
Just came back from watching a bunch of round robin games at the lan, from what I have seen so far, the majority of the big names will go through their groups just fine. Have to wait for the final results of the group play to see if there are surprises.
Either way, I think the bracket play will be really awesome to watch

Damn, all this because of stupid feet micro.
Finals will be tomorrow afternoon. Probably around 4PM EDT But come back here for updates. We'll have streams tomorrow too and this time, all games should be good.
Internet is back up at the lan since around 2AM EST. The cause of the outage was way outside the organisers control.
At least, if blizz doesen't intend to add LAN. They should at least have some way that if 2 game clients in the same LAN network lose their internet connection, they could at the very least, be able to finish their current game.
Or even better, add a custom game type that allows to setup automated best "x" of "y" matches between 2 players, which, combined with the previous suggestion would allow the players to finish their matches should an internet outage happens...
At least we got double the internet speed because it was the ISPs fault.
I downloaded about 50GB of stuff overnight. The worst is they told us too rofl. And by overnight I mean from 5am to 8am haha, 70mbs ftw. Also Daylight savings was a bad idea afterall!
For any event organiser out there, until blizzard stop failing and release some kind of lan servers, playing sc2 in a byoc event is retarded. massive spikes because too many people logged in to battle.net from 1 connection.......... = / sc2qc did awesome job tho
Admins will inform you guys on the whole thing, but the internet here went to shit. It finally came back but all the players agreed to just evenly split the whole prize pool and call it quits. Kiwikaki with the biggest prize pool.
LANETS is over, had a great time casting and hope everyone tolerated it to the least. Thanks for ICCup for putting up a professional cast and relieving me from a bit of pressure.
Yeah sorry about the fuss. We did what we could but in the end, i had no control over technical problems. Sad that it had to finish like this after all the effort we put into this, but still had a nice week-end. Was nice meeting a lot of players once again.
Also, big props to Torte de Lini, this guy is a really nice dude and did an amazing job throughout the week-end for the casting. Thanks to iCCup.tv for putting up a stream at last minute.
No clue about desrow, i think he just quit early after being eliminated.
2011, it's hosted every 6 months! Hopefully the admins will let me be there too! However, next time, I don't think I want to be in the booth, pretty lonely sitting in the back and no one to play with ):

Don't want to make you sad, but actually Celerios is right. It's only once per year. Last september edition was an exception because of WCG 2010 and i really don't think WCG is coming back to Montreal again this september.

Really? fuck I am so sad. Let's have a SC2 special edition then, fuck yeah.
The tournament was so awesome, thanks monx and the other admins for their great work and tasty casting tortellini ^^ looking forward to more lans like this.
We seriously need other places to do this in montreal. Lans not as big as this one but Lans nonetheless; quebec is far when its not summer vacations and even then theres work
Hehe thanks Spazzer for showing up. Hope we can set up more events soon. And thanks for the great feedback guys. We had problems all over the week-end and somewhat we found ways to fix most issues (except internet) all the time. The SC2 scene is really great and it's always a pleasure to admin these tourneys even with all the fuss.

After losing to dde with such an awesome delay. I kinda was sick and really not happy with myself. I wasnt sarcastic, the admins did a fantastic job. I'm mad at BYOC because let's say there was 90people who signed up for the sc2 tournament.
Let's say there is 20-30 casual people who play custom games from time to time during the lan. now blizz sucks and we all get spikes how cool is that? so yea had nothing bad to say bout this week end except the spikes which was out of the control of anyone.
my previous comment about tournament organiser its simple, if you want to add a sc2 tournament at a lan party (a byoc) it is a very bad idea, u should instead contact a net cafe and host one there where only 30-50people max can be logged on bnet at the same time and there shouldnt be any spikes.
and yes its a x, monx, was just a typo from my part. tricky name not used to write monx but monk brb edit

Fayth is pretty awesome though, Slush too (naturally Kiwi). Still a big fan of the NRG guys, so relaxed and baller. Neverexpo does some baller casting!

P.S: Attero's GF is a cutie, no joke and she can read pleasantly even with CS: S guys, she's a keeper Attero.
Oh and don't shake SimonLeGosu's hand, he makes you a leftie if you're a rightie, no joke. Wish I could shout-out everyone ): Dream Vision should hit me up if anything is up and the NRG guys too! Their posse of bros was too hilarious!
I wasnt sarcastic, the admins did a fantastic job. I'm mad at BYOC because let's say there was 90people who signed up for the sc2 tournament. Let's say there is 20-30 casual people who play custom games from time to time during the lan. now blizz sucks and we all get spikes how cool is that? so yea had nothing bad to say bout this week end except the spikes which was out of the control of anyone. my previous comment about tournament organiser its simple, if you want to add a sc2 tournament a lan party (a byoc) it is a very bad idea, u should instead contact a net cafe and host one there where only 30-50people max can be logged on bnet at the same time.
and yes its a x, monx, was just a typo from my part. tricky name not used to write monx but monk brb edit
You're mad at people bringing their own computers? Can you just write what you want to say in French? I'm really having trouble following where the problem is?
The event did something wrong? The Internet sucked balls? Blizzard for no LAN Back to BW?
Really baffled ;x

Would love to go to some of the other LANs just to play or improve casting!

After losing to dde with such an awesome delay. I kinda was sick and really not happy with myself. Went to see monk if the prizes were splitted among top8 or top12 (even tho i didnt really care since i didnt pay for my entry fee). I told monx thanks for the lan because at the end of the day, a tournament without admins or good admins is nothing. Unless WCG hosts a BYOC qualifier, I am never going back to a BYOC unless blizzard get his shit together. I had fun meeting with people.
btw fayth, stop sitting on my table jeez <3
Pretty sure it's Monx, however I get my Ks and Xs mixed up too. XelliMilxies.
I can't tell if you're saying the admins were bad or just absent or you're just mad at Blizzard. Or just angry all together. Did you mix your words up per chance?
Good salad nonetheless :3

k theres 2 options, 1 ur trying to stir the pot or 2 ur really confused.
all im saying is, theres nothing you can do about the spikes in byoc unless blizzard stop being retarded/greedy and give us lan option.
im not mad at the people who play sc2 casual, im not mad at the admins, im not mad at anyone but these greedy bastard who lives on the westcoast (in cali i believe) and are scared of getting starcraft 2 pirated and wont release a lan option.
By now they could have patched the game and gave us a lan option. So many people bought the game its like "comon Give us lan option!" and they could have us authorize the game on the internet first or something among those lines.
As for my poor writing of post im just too lazy/sleepy to make paragraphes but I did it so I don't have to explain myself for the 4th/5th again <3.

I got two more that need to be shrunk. They're like 2 gigs large.
Are you still confused ? I played 1-2 games of league of legend on friday with my bud, no spikes there. He played thruout the week-end and never he had spikes.
The spikes came from blizzard which is making me upset and make not want to attend a BYOC starcraft 2 tournament because it is not worth it. You cannot show good games when you spike hard every 5-10 second and can't micro for shit.
If you are still confused, I think what we're gonna have to do it is just let it go <3

I think it was really the ISP man.
no desrow is right. both Blizzard's fault and ISP. but desrow i understand your concerns but will that prevent you from going to MLG for that reason too? I mean i can understand the frustration but i think you're overreacting a bit too much.
omg so many things to say; i dont have much time as my gf is already pissed i spent a weekend playing videogames haha
Shout out to Torte for gathering a bunch of SC2 players and making the experience homier. Also, letting me jump into casting with zero experience in front of 150 viewers, rofl. You're insane. Hopefully I wasn't too terrible folks!
Shout to the ETS admin for being so laid back. We just went like, oh can we put the GSL on the big screen? He literally just shrugged his shoulders and said yes. I didn't have to argue. Pulling couches in front of the screen was awesome, and getting a shoutout from artosis even better. Plus, Idk why, but the lan ets admins thought I was some sort of community person cause they kept giving me free bawls.
OFC thanks to spaz for perpetuating sc2 esportz, shout out to smiLucky and Haybusa(sp?) for being total ballers. Thanks to AlexCMoi and FredZ for crushing me on stream and not making me feel bad about it
Kiwikaki rejecting our ruebens offer...gawsh. I know I would totally except an invitation from a bunch of people I didn't know, fo sho! Oh, and Kiwi, you're such a troll. Almost every post in the lan ets chat made me lol.
And to all the Super Smash players that got owned, im sorry.
The internet went down for hours on end, but it was still a great time and it sucks there isn't one in september | EDIT: MONX! thanks so much for organizing this shit again, you're the best. Just, don't troll me by saying I was in Mihai and Kiwikaki's group again, gave me a heart attack!
It was my first real tournament (with "real" people) and I have to say I understand why Day9 keeps telling "Stick with your plan". The most difficult part is when you're close to win a game, or taking a huge lead, this situation it happened me twice, all I could think was "omg am I gonna win this guy ?" and then just forgetting everything.
First time vs Fayth, he tried to pull some korean-4-gate, scouted it and CB 2 zealots in his base before warpgate. I was amazed by his probe micro btw (Dancing probes are fascinating), but completly forgot to macro so he crushed me after.
Second time vs Lacadien, I knew he was going for a fast hydra build, so I made a proxy pylon and rushed with zealot + 7 sentries, warping stalkers in his base. Destroyed his expo, but forgot to make canon in my base. He countered with few roaches, destroyed mine and took the lead.
But anyway, I was so happy to make it through round 3 of LB, it was not a big deal. I learned a lot, had a ton of fun .
Well i could updated them but it wouldn't be the truth. End of tournamenent was canceled because of Internet outage. So remaining 5 players split the prize pool.
Kiwi 675 Fayth and AlexCMoi -425 Attero and sLush - 300
Yes good idea. That way i won't have to keep explaining the failures. Apparently the fault goes to RISQ (http://www.risq.qc.ca/). One of their switch broke during LAN....therefore causing the internet outage. But still LAN option would be nice since i am pretty sure this sad situation could happen once again D:

Technical stuff From what i learned at the time while I was volounteering, it was the gateway router/switch that gives the school access to the RISQ network that suffered a clinical death. Not only the LAN had no more internet, the whole school didnt neither. It had to be completly replaced...
Kudos to the technicians who came during the night to do the replacement.
Taken from the lanETS forum from the executives about the outage ( translated and summarized by yours truly ) :
"We got the usage statistics of the weekend, we can clearly see that 200Mbps bandwidth at first clearly didnt at all. Also, the outages experienced during the weekend allowed us to find out that the ETS/RISQ's network equipment needed to be upgraded.
So rejoice for next year's lan, because its gonna be better and faster"
Conclusion : Add a router kill to your list of achievments guys
1 year is way too long to wait for another lan. Monx, can I bully you into making another one happen? <3
If you find sponsors k. but more seriously, kinda hard to organize such big events. It requires a lot of equipment and costs a lot. Torte should try to make one at Concordia ^^ i'd gladly help
I'd try Concordia but two things: 1. My CSU (Concordia Student Union) members are fucking selfish pricks. They won't do anything without it coming back to them in terms of sponsorship and positive light, even then, it has to be huge!
Is anyone able to reduce this video in size or at least know where I can go to upload these videos? I still have yet to upload the Group Stages one because it's like 0.4 gigs too large for Own3D, so I need to reduce it except I can't get it to be split in half because movie maker sucks and I can't get Vegas to work either.
If anyone is still reading this, I just got great news. There may be a SC2 tournament, 300$ prize-pool maybe more depending on the entrants with the ECA (Engineering students of Concordia). 5$ buy-in thus far.
Expect an official topic on it next week, however, as of right now, the date settled is April 3rd (Sunday).
Will give you guys more news as soon as we set something up. I might be a caster too ;D!
