So Testbug made the final cut? Can't say I'm really disappointed I would have just preferred a GSL map ... one that has actually been played a bunch of times at the highest level.
-edit-
I do, however, respect that you modified Temple and Metal to make sure close ground is impossible and Shakuras is cross only.
|
Wow, I thought you'd have sponsors to get the price money up, not that there would be an enormous entrance fee that all together is 3k dollars MORE than the price pool...

Have you not seen the prize pool for the nationals?
Prize pool is perfect and be thankful. MLG doesn't give this kind of a big opportunity to other games besides the Halo platform. (Not bashing MLG)
|
Are you guys reserving pro passes again like before? I'm too lazy to go do the site thing again ~_~;;!
|
Did I read it wrong or is it $70 to play or $70 to watch?
|
curious, all is ee are spectator passes....are those the ones i want to purchase to play? or are we waiting to spam the f5 on the store page at 7pm est?

their site's showing the spectator's pass as $20.. it's $70 to play

Starting spawns on Metalopolis and Shattered Temple have been modified to prevent close ground spawns.
Starting spawns on Shakuras Plateau have been modified to ensure cross-map spawns only. Wow this is what I had always wished for. I was always wondering why GSL did not change these maps like that to take out the huge random factor there.
As much as I am critical of the seeding system, I have to say the map pool of MLG is great.

Yes that is great, but with your kind of system I could just make my own starleague and let everyone pay 100 dollars entrance and have 512 spots and be all like "I HAVE A $50000 PRIZE POOL"
Then my tourney would have gone up an infinite amount since last year (there was none).
It's like poker. With bigger buyin, bigger pool but any shit poker site can have them.
It's not that spectacular that even with that many sponsors you make people pay $70 to be able to play. Makes me think that many of the not top100 will pass on a chance because the risk is bigger.

this is awesome can't wait to purchase!

|
They are not sold out. Must have been an error with the website or something.

i'm assuming that they're going to show sold out till 7pm EST and when that rolls around, you'll be able to get one. i'm not wanting to chance that

sold out? mlg dallas wasn't sold out till the day of, and that was 50 some open tickets.
|
I forgot from last year, do SC2 players have to fill out the team builder thing? Seems unnecessary for technically an one player team.

Team Builder is not just to "build" your team. It's also where you get the Parental Consent forms if your under 18, and enter in your contact information.

demios can you please check your PMs the site had an issue with my order
spartan: i had same issue

are they really sold out?

Passes aren't sold out. They displayed that way briefly before they became available at 7 ET.

Had no problem getting mine. Bought it at about 7:30 EST.

Can't wait to see idrA win this.

MLG confuses me, is Dallas the only place they have live events? I know there was an SC2 tournament at a previous MLG Dallas event, but I haven't heard of any other MLG events.

No, it just so happens that the last event of the last season was in Dallas as well. The next MLG event is in Columbus, OH, and the rest of the stops will be announced at a later date.

MLG travels around the USA holding several events a year. Next up is Columbus June 3-5th. Stay tuned for the remainder of the 2011 event locations.
Also, if you have "Credit Owed", your pass more than likely still went through, and you probably have the player pass. If you have a question as to whether you have a pass, go to https://team-builder.majorleaguegaming.com/ . If you have access to that, you have the player pass.

...so how many points does each place get? Do the points apply to all MLG events this season or just Dallas?

As for seeding:
- Registered Players will be seeded for each Event using the following criteria in this order: Starcraft 2 Pro Circuit Rank Points*, Starcraft 2 LAN Center Rank Points**, and Starcraft 2 Online Qualifier Rank Points. Ties will be broken using the next available criterion or randomly if necessary. Players with no Starcraft 2 Rank Points will be seeded randomly. Players will be seeded 1-256 for all Open Brackets. Players will be seeded 1-32 for all Championship Pool Play/Championship Brackets.
- *2010 Starcraft 2 Pro Circuit Rank Points will be used as the highest priority Rank Points in seeding the Starcraft 2 Event at the 2011 Dallas Competition. After the Dallas Competition, 2011 Starcraft 2 Pro Circuit Rank Points will replace all 2010 Starcraft 2 Pro Circuit Rank Points. 2011 Starcraft 2 Pro Circuit Rank Points may be used as Rolling Rank Points in 2012.
I'm unsure as to whether the Online Qualifier Rank points earned for Dallas would transfer over to other events; however, if they did, their value will diminish with each event (for example, the Online Qualifier rank points for Columbus, at Columbus, would be greater than the Online Qualifier rank points for Dallas.
With Dallas being the first 2011 event, players should definitely take the opportunity to receive rank points by competing in the Online Qualifier, so they are not randomly seeded.

Can you explain a little bit more about this seeding? Just let's be clear, what advantages do we have if we get this seeding?

You mean seeding for the open bracket? If you're seeded, you play less games.

For the Online Qualifier, the top 64 players will earn seeding rank points. The first placed team in the Online Qualifier will earn 1500 points, and it will work down to the 64th placed player who would get 5 points (any amount of points is better than nothing). So for a hypothetical situation, not taking into regards any form of rank points besides on Online Qualifier, the number 1 team would play the 272nd ranked team, the number 2 team would play the 271st ranked team, and so on. So as you can see, the higher seed you are, the lower seeded team you play in the early rounds of competition.
Now we can take a look at how the rank points are weighted. 2010 SC2 Pro Circuit Rank Points carry the most weight going into Dallas, meaning, 1 2010 SC2 Pro Circuit Rank Point is greater than any amount of Online Qualifier Rank Points. After Dallas, 2011 SC2 Pro Circuit Rank Points will carry the most weight, than LAN Center SC2 Rank Points (may or may not be implemented), and then Online Qualifier Rank Points.
Depending on the number of points you have in each of those categories, will reflect your seed at an event. The more points you have (preferably the 2011 SC2 Pro Circuit Rank Points), the lower seeded your opponents are early in the competition. If you do not have any Rank Points, you will be seeded randomly, and may end up playing tough competition early on.
So my advice to you is, play in the Online Qualifier if your attending Dallas.

I know the name is misleading; however, it is very important that after you purchase your player pass, you go to Team Builder to complete your pass. If you have not done so already, please do so now. It will take you no more than 1 minute to fill everything out.

i always get confused about this. the passes are for players and spectator passes are sold at the event?
|
Player Passes are for anyone who intends to compete- there are only a few SC2 Player Passes left but you can get them here.
Spectator passes can be bought ahead of time OR at the event, but if you get them online you avoid having to wait in a rather large line and instead only have to wait in a... slightly shorter line

Player passes are purchased online. Spectator passes can be purchased at the door, or online.
