The GCPL dust has settled, and FnaticMSI ended up champions over team Dignitas -- with EG taking 3rd and Liquid taking 4th. This week however, we will be seeing the top individuals from each team participating in the event, for a grand prize of $500 going to the winner!
The event will be brought to you by Germany's finest caster, Khaldor (in English!!)!
When? Wednesday April 6th @ 21 CET -- Quarter Finals :: RESULTS BELOW + Show Spoiler +
We selected the player with the best record (win-loss) during the league from each team. *Note: Sen from FnaticMSI couldn't participate due to being in Korea, therefore Fenix replaced him
Stay tuned to the stream, which can of course be found at: GosuCoachinGTV !
GL & HF to all, hope everyone will enjoy this event!
I'd be very surprised if Select or Kiwi lost. Don't know about Fenix vs. Kas, but I think Ret vs. HasuObs will be really exciting! I've been wanting to see more of Hasu ever since he beat HuK in the TSL.
Definitely looking forward to these matches! Pity that Sen couldn't play. Race distribution would have been 3-2-2 too ^^.
dSeleCT vs VTAzz ROOTKiWiKaKi vs EGAxslav FnaticMSI.Fenix vs Empire|Kas LiquidRet vs MouzHasuObs
Not sure which winners would play in the semis, so I won't speculate on that, but I wouldn't be surprised if KiWiKaKi or SeleCT took the tournament. They both looked great at MLG Dallas.
I thing Kas will come out on top as he is pretty much the only one out of this group who had no stressfull lan event conjoined with a long flight. Apart from that I would rate him as the strongest player in the tourney regardless. My hopes are for Hasu though.
My pics. No real thought went into this. Just going with the favorites here. dSeleCT vs VTAzz ROOTKiWiKaKi vs EGAxslav FnaticMSI.Fenix vs Empire Kas LiquidRet vs MouzHasuObs

it's a shame Kiwi went ahead with that bust
Axslav always seems to pull through in these random tournies. I mean really, after MLG who would've expected KiwiKaki to lose this?
Eh, Game 1 Kiwi got hard countered -- DTs vs Blink Stalkers. Game 3 Kiwi lost more units than he thought he would busting through the gateway on the ramp and was behind.
You can't make such comments after just 1 Bo3, especially a PvP or a ZvZ.

I think that the games were played before MLG and Kiwi worked on his PvP afterwards, because at MLG he always added a robotics to his blink stalker build (against Incontrol for example)

Khaldor just confirmed.
That's an interesting bit of information! I'm glad to see he buckled down and was able to greatly improve his game.

I think the early robotics would of saved him in game 1, but in game 3 it was just terrible decision making. I guess if he spent the resources on the Robo he wouldn't of committed to the bust, but I don't want to make excuses for a poor choice he made.

Well, I'm not saying Axslav is the better player, just that the outcome was surprising after how good KiwiKaki looked at MLG. But someone else mentioned that these games were likely played before MLG, so yeah maybe this was before Kiwi got a chance to really refine his PvP play.
Axslav has always been a great player, it's just funny how he manages to do so well in a lot of these random leagues, like the GCPL and some of the other team leagues EG played in, yet he has yet to get any big tournament showings, like with DreamHack or MLG or something.
Edit: Well, I guess it's not the MOST surprising thing, since PvP is such a volatile matchup.
root destiny makes 3,500 us dollars a month just from streaming and another 1,500 from lessons.
what do you think about root destiny making 5,000 a month just playing starcraft 2, 8 hours a day .
Where are you getting your information from? I thought he only did two lessons a day and charged 15 a lesson... that only translates to 900 for 30 days.
Was this played pre-patch? Seriously Xeris, most events hosted by you have matches played weeks in advance ... you must understand that this removes all the hype for a lot of viewers. Don't host a tournament if you can't broadcast it within 1-2 days.

Yeah, he wasn't playing his best games the last weeks. I hope he'll be back in top form for NASL.
I can't believe that Ret stopped that, incredible play. I'm not sure when Ret noticed the nexus got cancelled (if he noticed at all). It's a little ridiculous the protoss can all in like he did and still be in a somewhat decent position (he is pretty far behind though). Strength of forcefields i suppose.
So Ret defends a 4 or 5 gate nexus cancel all-inish attack, has a 20 supply lead, a 20 worker lead when it's 3 base to 2 base and he still loses? I can certainly understand his frustration with zvp lately.

Its kinda sad indeed. If you all in as zerg and it fails, you can just leave after. If you all in as protoss and it fails, you can end up in a decent position still
He went on to win the game with a unbeatable ball it looked like. Dunno what beats that combo Hasuobs ended up with.

Mobility is probably the best answer to the Protoss ball. Drops, nydus or multi-pronged attacks.

It was played last patch so the frequency of storms was probably a bit higher in the end game battles (didn't notice if Hasu got khaydarin or not). Ret prematurely attacked with his roach ball right after he defended the 5 gate and he pretty much lost 6 roaches for free. Ret probably also over made hydras in the midgame (he had limited options to attack and Hasu was doing colossus into ht), he should've used the gas to tech up faster i guess. The really big mistake was letting Hasu snipe the third when Ret still had a 20 or so supply lead, he was just caught out of position I guess (there was only one colossus at that point, not exactly game breaking). The creep spread was pretty bad the whole game as and that really hurt when Ret made so many hydras.
It is one of the most frustrating things as a zerg player to see a four or five gate attack or a two rax heavy bunker push with 5 or 6 scvs fail and then you go onto lose the game anyway. There's really no recovering from a similar zerg all-in.

mobility - YES. roach or baneling drops, roach attacks or muta play if you scout robotech
another point: the new FUNGAL does almost 3x the dmg of 1.2 patch. its hilarious vs toss ball (all armored). combined with baneling bombs - great thing to do - depending on the void amount.
Yes, ofc there are 5 zergs in EU -.- But what I want to say is that the aren't as many top zergs like there are terrans e.g. I like the list of DiaBoLuS. You will see it there.
socke instead of mana and the list is actually perfect. i think many of us have this list in our brain as well in 1-2 months you can add mondragon (and grubby maybe)
Hasu should have not been fighting at the gold. The Nexus was down already and the position when fightning didn't help him as well. Should have tryed to kill the Terran 3rd (ofc hard vs PF). Or not gone for the gold in first place.

Tarson is awesome, but he hasn't been playing in nearly as many regular events as most of the other guys, so it's somewhat hard to gauge his form in between big events. It's only recently that he's started playing in more of the weekly cups and stuff again, so it will become easier to get a gauge on his current level ^^

SeleCT abuses drops better. He has otherwordly multitasking and unit control.

Yeah SeleCT is awesome too.. quicker for sure.. hard to tell, Kas seems to be more effective in games that count though.
Man that was very smart to guardian shield and totally forcefield the army to the poitn where kas burned two stims just to kill 4-6 zealots. And a 3rd one to attempt to clean up.

he was not confident enough, he should have just walked in after the first 2 force fields were gone, axlav had only 1 force field left and without the next warp in he would have died there
Bad decision making in Kas' first attack. He should have stayed at the choke and move only a couple of marines to hunt the probes at the natural. He was flanked pretty badly after moved.

Hunting probes wouldnt be enough, he was going 3rax against fast Nexus. He had to kill him right there or at least expansion Nexus to have a chance in thet game.
