Yeah, he definitely took his noob lessons too much to heart. Yes, macro is probably the most important thing but it will only help you so much once players are at the same (or almost) level. THIS! Everytime I watch his stream I can't help but cringe at the way he binds his control groups and wastes units. He relies WAY too heavily on mouse control for units. His binds are basically... 1 2 3 and 4 for hatcheries, 5-6 for units. He never binds queens. The 5th+ hatcheries get bound to 4 as well. In contrast, Idra puts his first two hatcheries initially on 4 and 5 (or 3 and 4 not sure), and then eventually as the game progresses and the necessity of managing larva between hatcheries decreases (when you're pretty much out of the woods as far as early aggression goes) he combines them onto 4. The rest of the hatches gets bound to 4. His units go on 1-3 and his queens from 5-onwards. As early as 5-6 minutes into the game there is very little advantage to having each hatchery individually bound unless a push forces you to change individual rally points on your hatcheries. He wastes a lot of APM cycling between hatcheries checking larva counts and individually selecting each queen for vomits. In contrast, he usually only uses one or two binds for his entire army. Usually on 5-6. He relies almost entirely on his mouse control to micro his infestors which fails in so many situations. If he had his infestors separately ctrl-grouped you wouldn't see as much a-move to death infestor play. It can't stand to see him waste 4 keybinds on hatcheries for little benefit and only use two on his army. He's got an amazing understanding of the game and very solid mechanics despite the inefficiency of his play. I'm confident these odd bindings are holding him back and making him look sloppy compared to players with better bindings and similar mechanics. (Disclaimer: what I remember about idra's keybinds may be off a bit but I think I've got the basic idea down.) | ||
