On behalf of compLexity Gaming, we would like to officially welcome you to the SoundBlaster Tactic3D Tournament presented by Frys! We are very excited for this event, as it will allow North America's amateurs and professionals to come together to compete for $10,000 in cash and prizes. Below you can find more details about the event including the format, dates and prizing.
The Tactic3D Tournament will take place in three phases throughout the month of May, two open/amateur phases and one combined phase.
Preliminary Phase
The "Preliminary Phase" of the event will consist of an open 1,024 player tournament with 32 brackets of 32 players each. All rounds will be a best-of-3 single elimination. The top 4 from each bracket (128 total players) advance to the Qualifying Phase.
Qualifying Phase
The “Qualifying Phase” will consist of online best-of-three single elimination play among remaining 128 players who will be randomly placed into brackets. Play will continue until an amateur winner is determined. The top 32 players will advance to the “Tournament Phase” to take on the invited professional players.
Tournament Phase
The "Tournament Phase" will consist of the top 32 from the Qualifying Phase playing with 32 invited players. Brackets will be randomly seeded so that each invited player competes against a top 32 player from the Qualifying Phase in the first round. All early rounds will be best-of-3 single elimination. The Round of 8 will be best-of-5 single elimination. The remaining rounds will be played in a best-of-7 single elimination.

We hope this event gives lots of N.A. players a great chance to break out and make a name for themselves. GL to everyone!

I read 'The Casters' as the 'The Cons' for a brief second.
Hope to see some European names qualify. I take it Europeans are allowed to enter?
|

The Tournament is open only to residents of any state of the United States of America, the District of Columbia and any Province of Canada (other than Quebec) that are 16 years of age or older as of May 1, 2011, and who properly register for the Tournament (each a "Player"). Each Player may be required to show proof of age and residence. IF YOU DO NOT SATISFY THESE REQUIREMENTS, YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO REGISTER AND/OR PARTICIPATE IN THE TOURNAMENT. + Show Spoiler +Tactic 3D Online Gaming Tourney
StarCraft II - Amateur
Eastern Team Name Record Status bluewaffle.127 0-0 ready Matches Round Map Deadline Opponent Match Date Status
not in that format [in the excel table or w/e] but yea.
also, can we compete in both the east and west division?
EDIT: just realized that I registered with the wrong character code(127) my actual character code is 643
original signup: bluewaffle.127 which is WRONG new signup: bluewaffle.643 which is RIGHT
i tried changing it and accidentally made a double tournament entry it seems...
thanks, and sorry if I caused any troubles.

Another only american tournament :/ seem to be the only way to get an American winner is to exclude the good players

Looks fine to me. As long as you're set to ready you will be placed into a bracket when the time comes.

The great thing about not getting invited means that the qualifying tournament is usually a lot easier

Don't be like that, be happy for our north american friends. Good luck guys!

and lastly using your logic: the EU craftcup is held every friday @ 1:00 pm CST, which most people living in the central US(or further west especially) will be at school or work then and won't be able to participate. And seeing that a lot of up-and-coming pros are people who go to school mainly this seems unfair doesn't it?
maybe its just me, but it seems like euro elitism as it's finest I must say.

I don't think your getting the point here. I'm pretty sure American players can participate in eu-craftcup if they obey the rules of playing on eu server.
The thing is even if European players are willing to be up all night and playing on us-server they are not allowed to participate because of the rules.
"The Tournament is open only to residents of any state of the United States of America, the District of Columbia and any Province of Canada "
You must see the difference here right`?

I signed up, however I didn't put my character code. Is that okay?
|
How is your opponent supposed to find you? Gotta put the character code for ease of use. =)
|
Hehe, good point. I'll shoot them an email, shouldn't be too hard to fix
|
Would it be possible to play ro16 earlier of possible on the day or day before if opponent agree's?
|

Ask support for an official answer, but I believe it's totally find to play earlier in the day if both players agree. Playing LATER than the schedule is a problem tho

Keep in mind that players from any league can register for this tournament! Who knows, maybe you'll get a lucky bracket and get into the top 32! =)
If you compete in only one big StarCraft 2 open this year, let it be this one. =D
|
Players wanted! No matter what league you're in, you have a shot at some great prizes. All you have to do is sign up!
|
I will pass this along to all my networking sites, and give you guys a couple plugs when I am streaming the All 4 ONE Invitational this week.
|
Why not quebec, kiwikaki will win?
|
usually Quebec has some weird policy and many other tournaments had similar policy that had to exclude people from Quebec.. I'm sure it's the same here too.
|
Where it says "BattleNET Name" in the sign up form, do we need to put in our char code too?
|
"Now As many Canadians are aware there is Province that causes more problems and makes things more difficult than any other. And of course that Province is Quebec. And under Quebec law any contest that is open to Residents of Quebec must register the contest in advance with the Quebec government, pay a fee of the total contest prize value, and many other regulations. To avoid the extra work, financial obligations, and also avoid any legal action by the Quebec government, many companies will simply exclude Quebec in its eligibility requirement clause in the contest rules. Now as u can see running contest in Canada is very difficult and meeting American restrictions for contests are hard enough. So for that reason we exclude Canada from are Online Tournaments."
Found the above quote online which basically explains why Quebec is excluded from a lot of tournaments.
|
would it be possible even tough i live in mexico but i have family over us that i play the tournament and if i get to win prize could it be send to the us addreses i really need a response :/
|
delete, Thanks to BankaiPwn for explaining why we arent there. Fuck charest and his gouvernment
|
Does this mean that all the other tournaments have been taking a big risk by not excluding Quebec? Is it going to become standard for all online SC2 tournaments to do that?
|
Wow cool. With such a large open tournament it gives a bunch of people the chance to try and make a name for themselves. I am really looking forward to this!
|
Oh Joshy, your hair always amuses me.
|
When I registered my team I forgot to include my character code, but my account is naerok188 which is my character code, is that alright or should I get support?

Also, if by chance a dark horse player was to advance deep into the finals of the event, he could win more (prizes + cash) than the invited professionals.

Uh oh Ryan's playing! We still need 400ish players, register register register!

This is awesome. So many events lately. Being new to the community (1st post yay ^.^), its so exciting to see so much action. My cherry has been throughly popped.

Tournament is filled but it looks like registration is still open for back-ups. Lots of people didn't register correctly and didn't put their character codes. Stay tuned!
|
Why is Quebec out of the list I know it's ugly here in the winter but COMEONE I wanna play the tournie too :'(
|
How will we know if we get into the tournament if we missed the 1024th spot? will we know soon or at the tournament time? thanks
|
Look out everyone, I'm going to win this.
|
We wont know if you made it till the tournament time. We are still awaiting players to put their correct character codes into their team names.

no invite for tlo?

Will the brackets be posted early? I may not make it for the first night (assuming it has to be played at 8pm cst) and wondering if I'd be able to play early/late or if I should just plan on not playing.

Yes the brackets should be posted a day or two early. Registration ends this friday so this is the last chance for players to get their information (character ID's) entered correctly.
|
what's the schedule like, when will the tournament start, etc?

AskJoshy looks like a serial killer in his photo.
Looking forward to the tournament. Gogo Sheth/Machine!

No Slush or Kiwi...
Oh well... still looks great anyway! It's always good to see another NA tournament. I'm looking forward to it.

Grats to Vibe on getting another invite to a prominent tournament! This guy has really earned the spotlight in my eyes for playstyle, tactics and the brute force/swarm style that I love to watch the most from a fellow Zerg.

Matches and brackets have been released. Please read your match comms for further details.

There's a ton of players for this whose names are longer than what is allowed on bnet. Confuses me why they would put in that info lol

We are giving time for players who have registered to correct their information. Those players who did not make the cut and have registered by the deadline are still eligible to be placed in the preliminary round 1. Please join CEVO ventrillo on Friday 8 pm cdt with "reserve" placed in your comment.

I assume we're allowed to play early as long as we meet the deadline?

Details about how to play your match earlier are in your match comms/emails. You will need to contact support for changes in match times.

If you are talking about some players having a 4 digit character code, this is in fact correct. Some people on Battlenet have 4 digit identifiers.

I just did a quick scroll through all the signed up players. The longest character name I'm seeing is 13 characters. I've seen several of them at that length so I'm betting 13 characters is the max Battlenet will allow, I don't know for sure though.
I don't see anyone that is at 15-20 characters.
Edit: typo; Max characters Battlenet allows is 12.

Any particular reason why EU is excluded?

Laws in different countries would be the biggest reason, it takes a lot to make sure a tournament of this size meets all of the laws in every country around Europe.

How could the laws of a different country give a tournament in the US problems? It's not like we follow your laws here, why should you need to care about the european laws over there? ^_^

Please remind your friends who are playing that the event kicks off Friday! Don't want people to forfeit because they forgot!

Laws in different countries would be the biggest reason, it takes a lot to make sure a tournament of this size meets all of the laws in every country around Europe. Definitely not this reason. It doesn't even make sense. It doesn't matter if an online tournament doesn't meet the laws of a country; it's not even within that country's jurisdiction to rule on that unless somebody from that country joins the tournament, and even then that country's court will probably not be using its own law to rule on it.
NA-only probably because it's easier to schedule and broadcast, and most likely for protectionist reasons. EU has a lot of tournaments and a lot of interest, so I'd expect NA to try to grow the game without EU input (e.g. like international tournaments that deny entry by Koreans).
|
Actually, there are different laws in different regions as to playing in 'games of skill' (and other terms) for money. Legal departments of larger companies are quite wary about such things so this probably explains why some tourneys are more regional.
In this case, the sponsors wanted to focus on NA for this particular event. We will be throwing more events this year and they will most likely have a broader scope.
Please remind your friends that the action kicks off Friday night! The less people who forget (and get a FF loss) the better.

Yeah you're right. Guess some people decided it would be a good idea to register bogus accounts. Like stated above though, any players signed up but that didn't make it into a group can join the CEVO Support Ventrilo tonight at 8pm CST and we will add players in for players that forfeit. You must be already registered though.

I would contact support, we are pretty good at working with players.

After a great round 1, we are introducing our new "CHECK IN" system. Players are now required to check in 15 minutes before their scheduled match. This new feature will help players find each other and communicate outside of Battlenet. It will also help clarify forfeit issues.
Players check in by logging onto http://tactic3d.complexitygaming.com/account/login/
At the top of the website, there will be a "check in" button.
Once checked in, you may view matches and communicate with your opponent. Players are required to keep the webpage active during match play. Players can "check out" by closing their browser after their match is complete.
Help bubbles are located at the top of the site.
For live support via VoIP, please join CEVO's Ventrilo server: texas.cevo.nationvoice.com / port 4000
When joining CEVO Support Ventrilo join the Tactic3D Support channel, and or put "Tactic3D" into your comment. Offline support is also available by emailing tactic3d@cevo.com. Forfeits can be claimed by either method of support.
Officials can also be found on Battlenet with the Character names.codes of: CEVOellis.832 , CEVOmowery.595 , CEVOahn.137 in the channels cevo or tactic3d. Battlenet support is only for quick questions and players may be required to find support through official channels.

I'm having a hard time finding where I go for disputes, can someone help me out? I played and won my round 1, then later that night it said I had a BYE for my round 2. So my round 3 match messaged me and said he couldn't be here sunday for our round 3 match so he contacted an admin to get an OK to play our round 3 game. So I already played and won my round 3 game at the OK of an admin that my opponent contacted, now the guy that I initially got a BYE from randomly showed up on the bracket and it says I have a FF loss now.
|
We helped you a on ventrillo already. In the future, please search out support through the official methods.
|
Cast a few series tonight, thanks to the 250-300 viewers that stuck it out and watched + Show Spoiler +coLRyan, VileHawk, and xsixMkengyn advance to the round of 512. I'll be casting more games from the round of 1,024 and onward starting tomorrow and every day after that, hehe. =)

This stream is great quality. More people should be checking out this tourney.
|
So I was looking through the results of the groups at the end of the qualifying round, and notice that in what bracket only 3 of the spots of the 4 qualified people are taken, and the fourth is a BYE. Does someone get a bye first round of the actual qualifying tournament then or what? Also, I'm disappointed that the tournament isn't going to finish the pre-qualifiers to determine seeding, no reason not to do this in my opinion, as it could avoid 2 of the best players in the qualifiers knocking each other out in the first round.
On another note, there is a surprisingly low number of big names in the qualifiers, and unless I go up against optikzero, qxc (how was he not invited lol), or a few other people, I'm pretty sure it will be easy to make it in . This tournament is going to have a bunch of new names, glad its giving less well known players a chance to shine!
|
I'll be going live in a few hours with more games from the ro512 and ro256... looks like we might have some qxc replays today as well. =D
|
Quality is great, keep it up!
|
good tournament, glad I could partake, saddened I lost 1 round shy of qualifying for the next tournament! =(
|
|
All professional invited players should please check their emails for details on how to get on the Top 64 Pro-Am bracket. Thanks!
|
so the group brackets aren't played out, as soon as we reach a qualifying spot for the next stage that's the end of the bracket ?
|
New brackets are re-drawn for this weekend's games. I think you get randomized again into 4 groups of 32.

Because there's not going to be any seeding. =) Random brackets!

no! I loved my old bracket!
I'm gonna random right into qxc I'm sure.

No white-ra for a tac-tic tournament?
All jokes aside, should be some good games!

my old bracket was dopeskis.... curious to see who ill play now!

why does the op have no information about links to the brackets and stuff? also it might just be me, but I find the tournament page a bit difficult to navigate. I'm trying to see what the brackets are / what stage this event is in but it's a bit tough

I have to second Xeris on this. It seems like the tournament page was premade to store all stages of the tournament, which is great, but some sort of indication to which stages were already played could help a lot.

Thanks for the feedback. Right now we're working our way through the 1024 player open. The brackets are all up and the schedule is on the page as well. The finals for that are this weekend and they will have more coverage.
At the end of the month the top 32 players from the open play the 32 invited professionals. We'll have a new post up and full coverage for that as well.

I'm live now and in 5-10 minutes I'll be casting two more bo3's from the ro256! We've had three or four of the actual players in the casts hanging out in the chat, hehe. http://www.justin.tv/complexity

I have question about the second stage now, there are 4 groups of players, the top 32 out of these groups make it to the final bracket to play the 32 invited players?
Just trying to understand how the different stages are gonna work, so confusing T_T

Essentially you are right, for some clarity:
We are now in the Qualifying stage which is: 4 groups of 32 player brackets. These brackets were made randomly. When the brackets get down to the ro8 (for each bracket) those players are qualified into the pro-am bracket. 8 players from 4 brackets is 32 total. The 32 who advance are randomly put against the 32 invited players in the pro-am part.
Also since there are prizes for just the qualifying stage the stage will be completely played out to find the winner. This is all posted under the schedule part of the tournament webpage, but hopefully this longer post will help make it not so confusing. yes thanks for that I understand now. The first stage wasn't played out that's why I was a little confused why this stage would be played out but I see it's concluding the amateur portion of the tournament.
