The current system makes 1% of the players very well off, while the others get really low amount and barely gets motivated to continue playing.
Its like this for every GSL, the open seasons and even Code S proportionally.
Doesn't mean anyone has stopped playing. If anything, they'd play harder to place higher, versus being content getting a ro8/ro16 each time and scooping in more money than they actually deserve. The top heavy end motivates these players to strive to win each time, rather than simply being satifiied with an average placing.

Thats good actually. Why? Because the winner is fairly rewarded. There are so many touraments around the world that has almost the same amount of money for all first three places which is funny.

I'm also going to have the agree that the prize distribution is pretty terrible for most SC2 tournaments... with most having 50 or 100% of the prize pool going to the winner, which is way too top heavy. I think IPL had it right with 2500/1500/1000 for top three. Hopefully their $50K tournament doesn't award $25K for first.

Ret doesn't have the points to qualify.

That's a lot of money - can't wait for player list!

another huge GSL tournament!
GSL remains the leader in the sc2 scene

Can they atleast think of a better name, Super Tournament is really lame lol This is awesome tho since a GSL is kinda diminishing in the foreign view because of all the big tournaments here

Holy guacamole. that's ridiculous. I hope GOMTV finds success with this.
It would be awesome for idra to go out though lol.

damn. Either Ryung or Keen wont be in it.

So this is what Tasteless didn't want to leak last night at SotG. Quite excited for this!

Do they get all this money mainly from sponsorships?? Wow!
Because I don't see the season ticks being that much of revenue..

So cool, i actually miss the old style 64 straight up style tournament. Just feel like it allows better players to go through.

This tourny looks awesome but I wish the prize pool wasn't so top heavy. Awesome for the guy who wins but makes it hard for any of the other pro gamers to actually make a living. Not good for the esports scene IMO

So this is going to be super exciting. I cannot wait to see the crazy matches, and there are bound to be so many of them! :D

I think Idra would stand to benefit in participating in this Super tournament just to show the Koreans what they are missing and prove a point that he made the right choice in leaving, ie he doesn't need them but in actual fact they need him (to bring in the international viewership).
Especially now that he has overcome his weakness, ie ZvP, I think he can win this or show that foreigners are competing at a high level overseas cos lets face it the foreigners left in GSL are in a slump of late. It would also make a good storyline, The Return of the Gracken! I think it will be one of the main storylines in Korea if Idra were to go back and participate.

Watch it be another MVP v MKP finals.
MKP has been improving vs MVP. He went from a 4-0 to a 4-2 loss. Maybe 4-3 next time? (or gasp: 3-4 with the victory to MKP!!!)

re: chill
my guess is that they have lost some viewers recently and want to go back to the older format. maybe i'm wrong. maybe they are just experimenting?
i think they are trying to find the right formula to get the most viewers
