so, what does this have to do with julyzerg?
|
yea lol, what does this have to do with July Zerg?
|
I guess its ran in the month of july and having julyzerg in your title gets more views? silly name but gl with it
|
Well you go my attention...might as well read this to see what's up.
|
the name had me super confused
|
|
Awesome stuff. I've been covering these events in the roundup, and they seem to be quite legit and overlooked! Best of luck to polarfluKe, his crew, and everyone who signs up!
edit: By the way, before people start to get all pissy about the title, it fits with the theme he's been rolling with for a bit now.
Other fun polarfluKe titles: Char Grilled Muta Mayhem MMMarch Love is in the Auir
|
no but seriously, does julyzerg have ANYTHING to do with this?
but anyway, got me looking and this looks like a cool tourney
|
I suppose that's one way to get your thread read!

Not just for South Africans now The prize pool is now big enough that we can support international payouts as well

Seems I am giving too much Zerg love with the names, will have to make sure I use a Protoss theme next month
|
Oh, okay. nvm then, Didn't know about his tradition to give crazy names. For me terran next, pl0x. ^^
|
Its mostly to do with the fact that is is hosted in July, and just makes it catchier.
But this looks really awesome and hoping to see some big names fighting for the prize money :D.

Swiss tournaments are the worst

If this was any other kind of sport the makers of this league would get sued back to the stone age. Talk about inappropriate use of a player name. False advertising ftl....

swiss tournaments are a lot more fair to middle tier of players

Wow, do you even understand the term trademark violation? You are doing it wrong ! Your face is a trademark violation! This is a free tourney, which people now see because they saw July Zerg, now more people have a shot at some free money and a well organized tourney. I do not care if it was called "GSL SA", call it what you want, its awesome prize money!!! But let me explain, tourney is in July, maybe you missed that July is a month, zerg is a sc2 race. If it was called JulyZerg, or actually, ST_July, then maybe. I highly doubt July actually even has the name trademarked. That is like going on the ladder and taking everyone called boxer or slayers'boxer to court. So i ask you guys, whysosrs?
PS: The guy who came up with the name for this tourney is probably a genius with a 9" member!!!

I find Swiss Rounds to be the most rewarding when finding a top 32 to go into Single Elimination.
It allows for high level games as the rounds go on, as well as allowing for the lower level players to have some fair games instead of just being stomped all day.
|
As long as it's only used to determine the top 32 for SE everyone wins with better games (:
Lol'd at the srsbsns faces about the name. All the tourneys have had fun plays on words from the SC universe. Lighten up.

There are MUCH easier ways to get attention, seriously ^^. This is just a fun name. You should take part, or even watch the stream, it's quite fun

Awesome name! Awesome tournament! :-D First time playing in the June one and it was so much fun Look at the prize pool, thats great!
|
Yes please I'm so keen to test my skills against the best in SA again. after realgaming i'm really keen to play. Thanks Fluke and the PolarFluke team now let the APM clicking battles begin
|
I lol'd.
As the one guy said, PF has had sc2 themed names for the tourneys the whole time. and Yeah, this is July, and he decided to go with July Zerg. Its a play on words -_-.
And if you think was a cheap trick to gain more attention, 2 tourneys ago we had DieStar register, and afaik we have also had BeastyQT register for it, iirc. So... Name recognition: Maybe. Trying to get PF more popular? Its already getting the big names -_-,
Ergo, its not a cheap trick, just a cool name.
Wish I could enter. Durban ftw tho :D
|
I like how you used Heart Of The Swarm for the poster, for a minute there I thought it was July zerg playing HOTS
|
It's just July and it's a theme. Pretty cool!

Yeah its not like hes calling it child porn to get more attention, sheesh, get over it!

Fear not, I'll explain the TRUE reason this months PolarfluKe is called "July Zerg".
Month name: July Winning race: Zerg
I know zerg will win because the overmind came to me in a dream and said so. Also, seeM is dabest.
If you guys wanna be anger about something then rage about the name of the comp being a spoiler. :/
[EDIT] THIS JUST IN, next months tournament will be called "August Terran", whoda thunk?

cheap publicity stunts like these are a sure way to make me not want to look into a tournament. bring your own cool stuff if you want to get noticed in this oversaturated scene.

Looking good so far

Heya guys, first post on TL ^^,
so i'm not a super amazing player but i'm thinking of registering for this tournament just for the lulz and the competion. i got a couple of questions though:
so there'll be 5 swiss matches for every player on saturday, with everyone playing games simultaneously? how much time will there be in between games?
Also is it possible to read up on the other players stats anywhere? particularly the South African players i know nothing about.
I'd like to commend you though on hosting this tournament, it looks great.
|
G-force: its 4 rounds for everyone, each round being played simultaneously obviously. We give a few minutes between rounds, but since we wait for a round to finish before starting the next one, we generally have enough time for everyone to breath between. so anything between 5-40min depending your own games' speed of concluding.
You can definitely see their stats. There is a link for it, but maybe just look back on previous tournaments, and find those profiles online.
Hope to see you next weekend.
|
Some big names entering. Next week is going to be very interesting
|
Naming your tournament this way is just gonna get more people in here to look for the player instead of talking about the tournament itself. Myself included.
I am not satisfied in here without an appearance from the God of War.

Meh, fail title. Any desire I might've had to find out more about this tourny and/or watch it is gone now.

They usally accept registration until 13:00 on the Saterday of Swiss rounds when the tournies starts at 15:00 but I see it starts 14:00... so you can reg the day before and be fine.

Haha nah, I think the international prize pool is great. It'll give our guys a chance to face off against the big names . Just awesome!
|
(: gonna be a good one.
now that we've all gotten the good and bad out the way. how about we play some sc2!
|
I've been chatting to some of the previous "international" players and team managers and things are starting to heat up.
Kellymilkies is also going to be running a stream of the tournie!
I've not been this excited since i was a little gerl.
|
Geez, I am pretty keen for this! I can't wait to see how many other pro's show up in the next couple of hours.... that is indeed a lot of money!
|
Pity it clashes with the Stormers vs Crusaders game. Gonna be a great tourney
|
How do the players check in for this? Is there a channel?
|
We have no official check in. our players use IRC and no shows are docked seeding points and their opponents get granted free wins.
We do really try and have everybody gather in IRC an hour or so before start so we can get an idea of who is around. Myself and the other admins are very proactive when it comes to monitoring player activity
|
On July 01 2011 22:13 kellymilkies wrote: How do the players check in for this? Is there a channel?
Working on getting a system up for check ins, it won't be available this tournament, so we'll just get guys on IRC, available from the website.

Why are the single elimination brackets so unbalanced? All the more or less good players seem to be in the lower half.
|
The top half of the bracket is SA players and the bottom half consists of international players.
|
I see. Do you have to play on EU server in SA? I mean did Blizzard create an African server or not?
|
Are you going to release the replays afterwards? That'd be awesome
|

Yes replays will be released, all the ones they have at least. There is no African server.

Is there a bracket or winner's list anywhere?
