This is gonna be off the hook. This is going to be right after MLG so we hope to see some amazing games.
|
Two questions.
When is the latest I could register and prepay by? My work is weather dependant, so I won't be able to confirm attendance until very close to the event.
What do you mean by "Bo3 after 3 rounds"? Do you mean to say it's Bo1 for the first three rounds, and Bo3 after that?

There is no pre-pay, all you have to do is register and show up on time to get a spot.
And yes it's bo1 for first 3 rounds at this point, we will most likely change it to BO3 all the way for winners depending on number of registrations.
|
updated it to BO3 for winners all the way

I want to play in this but I am not sure what would happen if I registered in Code A and then laddered into masters before the tournament. Could one of you PM me the answer? Edit: Also if players who would be invited to the invitational placed in the top 8 of Code S, would the invites be scaled down to lower placing players?

time to get back into this game

If you register for CODE A and get promoted to CODE S you will be put into CODE S Tournament.
If players who placed top 8 cannot make it to the invitational we will be going down the result list. 9th place would be asked to come play. If we run out of CODE S players the winners of CODE A will be asked to come play.

Signed up for code S, glhf!

this makes me sad no way i (or anyone not in Vancouver) can justify a trip to Vancouver to play for (basically) no cash prizes... l2sc had much bigger event imo even with your "10 000$" worth of gear sure a 2200 gaming rig would be great but this is overly geared towards the recreational players how can this help develop the competitive scene when the majority of Canadian players (aside from the top 5) are still not able to make money attending events in Canada
Calgary had an event advertising a large sum of money ( most of it swag) but at least they had a 1250 cash prize for top three. This is a trend I'm seeing in Canadian gaming and i hope we move past it fast. I'm sick of the over advertised events that aren't really helping the competitive scene.
its a step in the right direction ofc! But tons of events give away swag but its the events that push the cash prizes to legitimate sizes that will become successful
all the best for this event and good job landing some big names. Ill be looking forward to future events with actual cash prize pools
edmonton gaming ftw

|
i'm somewhat confused as to who the invites are.. unless i missed something..
|
The top 8 will be invited from Code S
|
Oh shit JC you coming too? Im bringing my friend so this will be my first tournament!

Also on the prereg page, there is no option for "grandmaster" under League. Not that I am a GM but still. Just saying :D

Thank you for the support. I do agree that L2sc had a bigger event but I haven't heard from them since. I think that proves that running events with big Cash Prize Pools are a lot easier said then done. IMO.

Oh awesome, i live so close to e-spot as well, i may participate in code a if I can just to see how i do.
Either way im definitely coming to watch, the vancouver starcraft scene is really growing this is awesome.
By my count vancouver has about 20 players in GM thats like 10% of all grandmasters league. I could be a bit off but including ppl who may have dropped out this season i think vancouver has had 15-20 players in grandmasters at some point like optikzero still would be in it if he wasnt in korea, and i think mostly the rest stayed in

Considering the base-line prizes and the huge community we have in Vancouver, I'm going to guess the pool will be quite substantial. Or did you miss that prize-pool part?

Im not denying their doing great. They are! If i hadnt of noticed the 60 percent of prize pool i would have said there is no cash prize. What i said is theres BARELY a cash prize. And compared to the swag there is virtually no cash prize. Its not a question of whether it is worth my time or not. Its NOT because i couldnt even cover the cost of going there if i got first (unless you get something like 50 people signed up just for the masters/ grand masters event...then i might break even if i got first....)
Hey man im just a player whos speaking out because the event is excluding competitive people like me that are out of town. I cant justify travelling (and im sure other competitive people out of town feel the same) to compete in tournies unless there are decent CASH prize pools
and like i said im looking forward to future events with significant guaranteed CASH prize pools
tQ Fighting!!! one of u better beat drewbie since im not there :p
edit : I really dont think im being very negative at all, i said it makes me sad that i can't logistically attend this event because its catering to local rec players and not to more the competitive scene as l2sc or *cough cough project x did.. Thank you for clarifying your thoughts tQArchaic. In the future when we can afford to front out some more cash or find sponsors that are willing to just give out money maybe then we can see more out of towners to come out and participate in our events.
I take it as feedback what you said. It is interesting and helpful for us to know that to attract outside players they want to see more money not products that our sponsors are willing to give out. We will look into this in the near future. It's a lot easier said and done, sponsors tend to rather give out products then straight up cash for lots of business reasons unless your sponsoring a GSL tournament.
Hope to see you at our future tournaments.

To qualify for the august 20th tournament you must place top 8 in CODE S on august 6th. CODE S is Masters- Grandmasters.
$20 registration fee breakdown: $10 goes to venue. $10 goes to pool.

I signed up via the link! :D Currently "Code A", but when the new season starts i might be pumped up to "Code S"
What would I be in the tournament if between now and then i shift code leagues?
EDIT: Just wanted to say how super excited I am for the raffles and prizes for all divisions, this tourney should be sooo great!!!
|
This sounds pretty epic! Hopefully I can make it.

Registered for Code B,
I am top Gold right now and I could "possibly" make it to platinum,
If I do will I be automatically registered into Code A?
By the way, if I can't make it even though I registered will I have to email someone or do I just not show up?
Thanks
|
Sweet, another tourney in Vancouver!! loving this community spirit in Richmond hahaha ^^ signed up for CODE A, hoping to be able to make the first 90 for the Zerg bag~!! =D see you guys there~!

Doesn't matter what code you are now. If you get promoted you will be put into CODE S.

Email would be very kind of you but it is not a requirement. If you get promoted to CODE A it would be nice of you to email us to let us know before hand. We will find out the night before which League every player should be in and will place them accordingly.

Nothing negative to say about this one. You guys are doing great job down in BC, I'm very happy with the sponsors you brought into the event. I will be down in BC (Victoria island mostly) in late August and try my best to stop by

Wow it sucks to be a master leaguer. You'll only get crushed by GM and pro players. On the other hand Diamond seems to be a sweet spot. Why do people always lump masters & GMs...

Not enough Grandmaster players to have their own League. That simple. Be surprised how many good Masters players there are here as well.

We are going to be computer nazy's so be ready. Like no joke we are going to be very serious about computer usage. Second you are done players aren't going to be asked to get off of the computers, they will be told to get off ASAP. We will reinforce this when we are there. We are also making sections for CODE B A and S. This way players will know the area they will be playing in and the second a computer opens up they can aid us in getting players out and in on a computer right away.
This is the official heads up for everyone. Do not get comfortable at all on any of the computers, you will be moving around inside your area a lot.

would it be possible to see a list of players attending?
also, i was wondering if i sign up (which i already did), is it ok to not show due to any reasons? i know thats pretty bad to not show up, but hypothetically?
edit: found the answer to my 2nd question xD

if players leagues change via the new ladder season, i assume the divisions will be shuffled for the change?
l mean lets say 30% of the code B move up to code A, wont that screw the brackets?

I'm too scared to compete, lol. (I suck at melee, I'm just a map maker). But, can I go there to watch?

Thinking about signing up but I'm gone for like 10 days pre-tournament so no chance to practice! Scary thought..... I'll be obs'ing for sure, though. Nice prizes <3 GL everyone!

i wouldn't count yourself out man, the difference between plat and diamond is probably the smallest difference between each of the leagues. Also, you may surprise yourself. at lancouver i was taking games off diamond/masters and im in gold league. i believe in you, sir!

I have one thing to say from experience with other tournaments we and others have hosted. It's not about who pre registers, it's who actual shows up that matters. Pre-Registration is always deceiving, we always expect 50% of whomever pre-registers to show up.
Best of luck everyone and do not be afraid of who pre-registered because emergencies and plans do come up.

The poster is ranking the sponsors in Starcraft terms (donate lots = diamond, donate little = bronze). That Code S list is pretty crazy, Vancouver has a very good SC scene.

What are the other prizes that isnt the prize pool and the razer raffle draws?

Started playing again after 2 months so I'll probably get my butt kicked but it will be great to see other SC2 players in the area

To reiterate,
The admins at this tournament are going to be very strict on computer use due to the sheer size of this tournament coupled with limits on time and computers. It'll make the entire tournament easier and more fun in general for everyone involved if you listen to the admins and make things quick and efficient.
Thanks and look forward to see everyone there.

try for code A =D
|
do we get time to eat or breaks? and how much time do we have between games?
|
With the number of people participating, it's extremely unlikely you'll be playing nonstop. Expect a number of breaks where you have time to eat/drink/smoke/watch other people.
|
Eat a good breakfast. We are plowing through this. You may have the odd one game break, which is like 15 minute average. Once the brackets are setup during tournament play, players will have an understanding of when they should or not go on breaks.
As for prizes other than prize pool and raffle. First 90 Players will get SC2 Zerg Messenger bags, and after 90 players we will have $10 ME gift cards, limited quantities. Top 8 players in CODE S are given the chance to pursuit a bigger prize pool in the invitational tournament. Pretty much place top 8 in code s and you are gauranteed mice, headset, keyboard, but you have to attend the invitationals to receive the prize. If top 8 players do not want to advance to invitationals the next player on the list in CODE S will have a chance to take the spot. SO YOU NEVER KNOW! Place as high as you can.
Good luck everyone, and I hope you enjoy what we have worked hard for the eSport community.

We recommend USB because most USB keyboards are plug and play. If your keyboard needs a driver please put that on a USB memory stick so this saves you and us time from having to download anything. We recommend having XP VISTA and Windows 7 drivers all ready to go.

On August 04 2011 04:31 AssasinatorSC2 wrote: do we get time to eat or breaks? and how much time do we have between games?
This really depends. There isn't any scheduled breaks due to limited amount of computers and a ton of players. The best thing to do is check out the brackets and see how far along it will be until it is your turn to play. The best time to take breaks is usually in the early rounds when players are still waiting for computers to play.

Maps to be rotated for Game 1 in Bo3 Series is as listed: MLG Xel' Naga Caverns MLG Metalopolis MLG Shakuras Plateau MLG Shattered Temple
does this mean the other 5 GSL maps are removed from the tournament? ._.

USB Keyboards, wired are the best way to go. Wireless keyboards have too many factors, batteries die out, dongles wont connect. Please have keyboard drivers handy, XP, VISTA, 7. Have both 32bit and 64bit versions handy.
$20 for registration. For every player that plays in a bracket, $10 will be added to the prize pool.
Just a reminder. Please make sure you register on time. We will stop registration at 10:30am. So please come on time.

For the zerg bag is it the first 90 pre registered or first 90 at espot?
|
On August 06 2011 14:05 PopCornsc2 wrote: For the zerg bag is it the first 90 pre registered or first 90 at espot?
its for first 90 who arrive espot who have pre-registered before Aug 5th, 10:30pm PDT
also...can we get a final number of pre-registered players for each Code after 10:30 please? X3
|
Preregistration is now closed. Final Total of preregistered players:
CODE S: 55 CODE A: 74 (Because of this massive number there is a very good chance first second and third round will be Bo1) CODE B: 39
Going to be fun tomorrow we are super stoked and cannot wait to see everyone come out tomorrow.
Best of luck to all.

I would pick fortress and dual sight a ton. and the other maps depending on the MU.

So its gonna be a lot harder for CODE A iguess. they dont get the bo3 but only bo1. =(

WHAAAAT man fuck watch me come all the way from langley & lose first game...

HAHHA me too!!! Hope they change it to bo3 for winners. It would be fair. :S

Just remember guys it is Double Elimination so even if you lose the first game you have a chance to come back. We wish there is another option but there really isn't. The venue just doesn't have enough computers to run a Bo3 all the way through of there is 70+ Players in one CODE.
|
do you know if you can change display mode in the monitors there? (aspect ratio, 1:1 etc)
also is it okay if i bring my monitor to play?
thx
|
On August 06 2011 15:07 PopCornsc2 wrote: HAHHA me too!!! Hope they change it to bo3 for winners. It would be fair. :S
We are going to keep this in mind for the future. We want to be fair to all CODE's and I cannot guarantee anything but it's looking like CODE A might be getting their own separate tournament in the future. There are so many of you its awesome!
|
Well maybe you should give us maybe one more game during the early pool. Cause our winners are bo1 which is such a different game compared to bo3 games.

There is no wifi connection so it is very doubtful you will be able to bring your own laptop to play. If you want to bring it incase you can but we cannot promise you it is going to work due to Lan Security with Internet etc.
We have asked them in the past if we could bring our own laptops and was rejected so you have been warned if they decide to not allow you to use your laptop at their lan.

Trust me, it's going to back the whole tournament up. Let me give you some perspective, there are 54 computers. There are 3 CODES. Total of around 150 players. We have from 10:30 to 7PM to run the tournament. It just is not possible for this tournament.
Hope you all understand.

hey Solid! I brought my keyboard the other day it is a wirless keyboard and it didnt seem to work at espot?

If there are more then 32 players for code a then rounds 1 2 3 are bo1?

Did you ask them to do a restart? Did you bring your own drivers? If you did all of that, that is too bad I don't know what else you can do.
|

50% of preregistered showed up last one.

If there are more then 32 players only first round is bo1. Over 64 players then it is 1 2 3 bo1.

Leaving from Coquitlam now see you guys soon!

Regardless of the networking issue, I'm still glad I got the messenger bag. However, I feel really bad for the guy who flew up all the way from Texas

On August 07 2011 05:47 Saichotic wrote:Regardless of the networking issue, I'm still glad I got the messenger bag. However, I feel really bad for the guy who flew up all the way from Texas oh no
the networking issue was out of control of cG and I think the event was amazingly organized overall. definitely the best turnout out of any previous event!
|
Such an absolute bummer that the b.net issues caused the LAN event to be cancelled... There was so many people there and it was bound to be a sick event.
Though, I have to give props to the CG crew for handling the situation as best as they could. They made sure there was a bright side to the cancellation with refunds, giveaways and a draw. I was skeptical at first but everything was done efficiently. You guys have my support, and I'll be looking forward to the next event!

I like my bag too! Its too bad about the tourney though. There sure were a lot of people.
Edit: I'll definitely come to the next one too.
|
there are no words for the pain in my heart.
cg guys im sorry shit didnt go well for you. you still have my support! cant wait for next one.
|
it wasnt espots fault. CG should organize another one soon but make sure the computer works! Thanks for the bag <3
|
Although it didn't work out, I thought is was still pretty awesome meeting fellow starcraft 2 players in your area and the zerg messenger bag!! My friend won the keyboard... i wanted it...
|
Even though the event didn't go as planned I really want to thank the people who took their time to organize this event because the bags are aweesome and nice raffle. Kool stuff keep it up bros
|
So when will the brackets be up for the online tournament?
|
Another event ruined my no LAN. Thanks alot Blizzard. Hopefully the next one is soon and will actually run. It was a bummer to get there from Vic and then it gets cancelled. Next time though!
|
I like to thank everyone who came out today to show their support. Unfortunately things unfolded the way it was, but I sincerely apologize for this event's outcome. I hope everyone enjoyed the swag they receive and we appreciate everyone's support even though this happened the way it did. Guys who have opted to play in the online tournament, good luck and THANK YOU for the support once again.
Online tournament will happen as planned, and the invitationals is still the same date. TOP 8 from code S will duke it out for the grand prize, $2200 gaming rig! We will keep in touch with everyone who has entered the tournament. Brackets will be updated by the end of this weekend.
We definitely will try to have a LAN day where we will have eSpot cafe for 3 hours, just to have fun. So stay tune for this event to happen. We would definitely need to see if eSpot can run all 50 computers. This is an eye opener for all of us at CG. This event will be paid for and is our way of saying thank you for supporting Cyber Gaming. Stay tune in UBC Starcraft, 604starcraft and cybergaming facebook channel for news on when this great social event will happen.
|
I forgot to mention, for those who missed out on winning the raffle prizes. August 20th, we will be doing same raffle draw for everyone who comes out and attends the invitationals.
2 Maurader Keyboard, 2 Banshee Headset, 2 Spectre Mouse.
Thanks you Memory Express and Razer! We could not have made these events possible without their help.
|
When people ask me where I got the zerg bag, I will tell them I got it at a sick sick LAN.
|
Very unfortunate on what happened at the lan. However, I'd like to note that the CG guys did everything they could do fix the issue. They called Blizzard, and let everyone on the floor know what is going on. These guys really know how to run events :D Just bad luck this time
|
Absolutely choked about the bnet issue It was DESTINED to be a sick tournament.
|
Super bummed that things couldn't work themselves out for the tourny. It was my First event and Really wanted to spend more time meeting my fellow gamers, and watching some sick code S play first hand. But alas they did a solid job in making it up to us. Loved that there was such a strong turn out. Here's to next time!
Van-city FIGHTING!

Those who got refunded are NOT in the online tournament. I do believe that spectators can participate in the raffle, but don't hold me to it; wait on a final word from solid or fxk.

all the players in that tournament get a headset mouse and keyboard so i would assume they're raffling the other stuff to spectators.
|
When is this online tournament? I have seen no information on an actual time yet.
|
Is the online tournament going to be posted anytime soon? I'm going on vacation the week after the next. Also, would I be able to get a refund if I can make it for the online tourney? I remember hearing it was going to be Sunday
Regardless, I realize you guys did all you could to make this a success and I'd like to thank everyone who helped in the making of this tournament. Looking forward to the next!

|
Blizzard has too tight a grip on how tournaments are run. They want to make it like South Korea so they can squeeze a little bit more money out of people. This is why we'll never see LAN play in SC2. EVER.
|
http://challonge.com/cg4_s This is the temporary bracket for the online tournament tomorrow. It was 100% based off ladder rankings, no politics involved. So if you don't like your place in the bracket, tonight is the time to ladder up or down. The bracket will be finalized tonight at midnight. Good luck have fun to all
|
Well I have 50ish bonus pool to spend once I get home from exams X.x Should be able to go up a few ranks :D
|
That was fun, congrats to fox who took the Code A champion slot. I think he played 5 bo3 ZvZs.
I got second =(
My first ever online tournament though and it worked out alright aside from my back starting to get stiff from sitting for 6 hours.

So is the invitational on the 20th still happening at eSpot?

Yes. The tournament ended yesterday. Im sure the organizers will do a recap of it and update you guys. But for now ill list the top 8 players that will play this weekend:
Stalife FourkWarden vVvHasuu RoyalFlush Validity tQtyrant (saikou) Bosnic RevSync
Will be pretty tough competition since it is just single elimination!
