@shriek You can choose Random - if I remember, we covered this topic at the Sept Open but it wasn't a big issue. Tbh, imo, it's unfair if someone changed race during say... a bo3 series but that's just me. This is a bit touchy and it might come down to the other player agreeing or disagreeing. Personally, I think it would be suicidal to change race in a tournament unless you're adept at playing one or more races really really well /shrug.
@windows7 You have an option to pay online ($10 bucks) or at the door ($15). We made this rule because people were registering but not actually showing up. If you wait and pay at the door, though, there's no guarantee you'll make the bracket.

i know of a player who will do one "build" with a certain offrace about 50% of the time and other 50% not do it. it is a complete conflip to stop that build as you have to know it is coming from the second the game starts. i don't think having games based off coinflips (random chance). there is no inception in it, it is simply guessing on both sides. if you want to guess, play heads or tails--not starcraft.

Are you a native English speaker? I don't understand a lot of what you wrote, nor do I see how it's relevant to what I said. You know one person who off races and cheeses. Ok, so what? There are players who play one race and cheese every game, what difference does that make? Are you saying that anyone who plays more than one race wants to play coinflips? Seriously, what are you talking about -.-
Is there a way to check the list of players who have registered and players who have paid? I want to verify that my friends and I are good to go. Thanks!
EDIT: The reason is that some of us were having trouble with PayPal so we skipped that step. But now I want to make sure that everyone re-registers to pay online.

His English is fine. The point he makes is relevant as well and up for debate. Don't misconstrue his argument as simply "playing more than one race = flipping coins".
@windows7 - Yah the PayPal was bugged on our index page but it's fixed now and if anyone needs to re-register they can and I'll simply delete their old one. I'll put up a list sometime tomorrow.
QUICK NOTE: If the registration page isn't showing up for you and you're using Internet Explorer, switch to Google Chrome for now until I fix the bug. Thanks.

To clarify, players are allowed to switch races in between games of a BoX series? Thank you.

Correct.
Basically, we want you to pay upfront so we can post the bracket sooner and start the tournament sooner. Everyone knows, and in our past tourneys, not all registered players show - meh. I'll update the OP with more details this week.

Yes.
Yesss! Official ruling on this. I had the same question in the last LAN, but was told out right that there was no switching races the entire tournament. Glad I have this in writing now.
Just an update because I've gotten questions about this:
Online PAY vs @ Door PAY If you pay online, you're guaranteed into the bracket to play. If you register online but wait to pay at the door, it'll be first come first serve with no guarantee - especially if you wait to register then. (btw, registration may close soon.)
Check-in @ Door is at 9:00 am. After 11:00 am or when the tournament starts, check-in closes. Need your help to make sure you guys get there on time because of double elimination. I'll have the itinerary posted soon.
If you're just coming to watch - AWESOME! Bring your friends and family! No registering or pay! (although donations are welcome at the door!)
On December 14 2011 15:57 ShrieK wrote: The tournament info says double elim, semis bo3, finals bo5, but the itinerary says semis are bo5 and finals bo7.
actually the only thing i changed is the finals at bo7 - the wording on tournament info meant to say rounds to quarters are bo3 with semi/finals as bo5 but i've changed finals to bo7. thanks for noticing - eep!
We're going to give away two of these controller gears away and all you have to do to win one is when you arrive at the Dojo on Sunday > go to our Facebook page and check-in. We'll choose two winners at random at the end of the day. Open to anyone coming.
yes on displays, it's a BYOC. So please bring keyboard, mice, computer case, monitor. it's on the Terms & Conditions page which you guys should have read, LOL!
Does anyone have a spare 25+ CAT5 Lan Cable, that they wouldnt mind letting me use for the event. Im willing to pay a reasonable price to borrow it for the day.

I can spare you one. Ask me at the door. No pay even.
I just signed up, shoulda done it earlier but yeah this should be a good event
so I'm signed and paid for, I notice there are about 64 people already on that list, makes me wonder if it's updated and has more people who have signed up? If it's full would I get my money back? thanks

Hello, I registered and paid for my registration online on December 9th and I could not find my name in the list of 64 posted up there. My ID is Sky.742. If you can get back to me on that that would be perfect. Thanks.
Quick question, can you provide a link on where to pay? I registered on the website (Dopplewalk) and for some reason despite it saying it would automatically forward me to the paypal page, it never did...
Hi, I won't be able to make it, so please take my name off the list.
I don't think refunds are still available, but even if they are, I would like you to keep my $10 as a donation. I went to the last one and I'm sure this will be an even better tournament.
Tentatively (just to get this out early so sharp players can get a bit of practice/experience) GSL Daybreak will be one of the maps. A nice map to celebrate the completion of the Blizzard Cup!
Oh cool, I just got back to the south bay area like 2 days ago, but its my moms birthday, won't be able to make it (this event is so close by though, oh well too bad) Good luck to all the competitors.
Thanks again to everyone who showed up and for their support of eSport in SF Bay!
It's back to planning for 2012 - I'm open to ideas and suggestions - you guys wanted double elims, we gave you that so PM me. Atm, we're continuing our regional Starcraft II Open Lan next September, and Zerg Christmas in Dec' 2012.
Want something in Spring? Summer? Let me know, this is YOUR community!
I'll have pics up soon - waiting on Skylar to send to me.
Thanks HWG and all the sponsors for the event! I heard about the Microsoft guys not being able to come thanks to corporate and that made me sad that they didn't get to watch me get stomped. Too bad I was getting sick and didn't feel well and had to leave early. I hope it gets bigger next time.

Yah, woulda been hella fun if the Microsoft Store crew was there but due to the Holiday spree - they were needed at the Santa Clara store, but they DID give us lots of swags and they provided our webcam, too!
Zerg Christmas was awesome! Got destroyed by VPSuppy in the first round (shocker lol) but was really glad there was a loser's bracket this time. Also I was lucky and wound up sitting next to the Reign guys as well as EGMachine! Got to chat with Machine and Axslav for a bit too which was very cool.
Will definitely be going to all the future HWG tournaments and would love to see something in the Spring/Summer!
And a huge thank you to the sponsors for making these small-ish events get better and better!
